Dwayne Haskins, do tell
On the 11W site the question was posed, does Dwayne Haskins have a tell? The OP seems to think so as do many contributors. I have to say, looking back at some other highlights it would appear so. In fact he has two complimentary tells, he literally tells the defense whether he'll be passing or handing off for a run.
After watching video provided by the OP and other videos on YT, I'm inclined to agree. Of course it won't help on an RPO, since that play starts as a run play, but his passing tell is near 100%. It will be interesting to see if that has been corrected for their game with Maryland. On the other hand, habits are hard to break, this is especially true when under pressure.

I haven't clicked through yet, but can you give me a hint? Does he hold up an Oreo next to his ear and twist it apart before pass plays or something?
November 16th, 2018 at 8:10 PM ^
Check (down) Check (down) Check (down).
November 16th, 2018 at 8:17 PM ^
Not just any Oreo, chocolate creme filled Oreos. Wouldn't want it to be a total give away.
Anyway, my apologies, one should never assume too much on the part of the reader. I think that's a movie quote, but I digress. Haskins nearly always leans back when receiving the snap if it is a pass play and leans forward when receiving the snap on run and RPO plays.

How long has this been going on? I.e. how engrained is this habit?
November 16th, 2018 at 8:24 PM ^
They're saying he's been doing it since at least week one.
Edit: Just checked the highlights from the The Game of 2017, he was doing it when he came in for Barrett.
November 17th, 2018 at 11:47 AM ^
lol a lot of o-linemen do the same thing. they usually try to coach them not to do that, but if the player thinks he needs to position himself differently to gain an edge, they'll do it anyway.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:19 PM ^
Before running plays he leans forward at the snap. On passes he leans back. Now that it has been reported he will tip the wrong read by leaning forward on a pass and back on a run.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:23 PM ^
He'll try, but he hasn't faced the pressure of a Michigan defense, Haskins will revert to his norm.

Good news. We've exceeded our 5 year dump quota in just 3 years. However, people are starving.

No one's starving. They're all just looking more fit, for beach season this winter.

I think there was a quote from Nabokov that was something like "bureaucracy is the placenta of a Russian" - which is pretty funny to me.

Interesting, but not clicking through to that cesspool.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:20 PM ^
Maybe they’ve done it all year just to set up Michigan. He’ll lean forward before the snap, our LBs will crash downhill and he’ll pull the ball and throw a TD in the 4th quarter. Yes, I still have BPONE when it comes to this game.
November 16th, 2018 at 9:01 PM ^
The touchdown will bring them within three scores. BPONE dat.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:20 PM ^
Is this some elaborate, intentional slow-play geared towards Michigan believing this tell then taking the bait? Or is it like when that one 12 year old who just learned a curve ball digs in his mitt, only to throw the fastball?
Yeah...that's where my head is in regards to Ohio State.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:24 PM ^
We’re coming after him no matter what. We should ignore all of this and just pancake him. Time after time.

November 16th, 2018 at 8:25 PM ^
This is a stretch. Maybe OSU just sucks at run blocking? Plus, no risk of a Haskins pull as the guy looks like a beached whale. I mean he looks fat and slow compared to last year.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:30 PM ^
Luther Van Dam told me to watch which hand the center snaps the ball with. Dead giveaway.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:31 PM ^
If his receivers don't get open against our secondary, he's going to have serious problems, tell or no tell.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:37 PM ^
It's a tell on the snap, so it's not a big advantage, if any. It's not like you get time to change your play call.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:53 PM ^
Agree. There is no way Don Brown is telling his guys to watch whether Haskins leans while the ball is being snapped. All the reads/keys they've been getting the players to instinctively act on aren't going to be screwed with during the most important game of their careers. You dance with who brung ya.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:47 PM ^
As OP replied, if he's been doing this since the game last year, you can rest assured that the analysts assigned to OSU had it spotted weeks ago. And if its that ingrained, he's not going to fix it in a week - the lizard brain kicks in. If it can be noticed in time on the field, the DL can pin back their ears and destroy everything regardless of play call.
November 16th, 2018 at 8:49 PM ^
Might be a bit of a tell, but I don't think it's as easy to see on the field as it is from the sideline. Remember, the players have OL/WR keys to focus on as well as having to see through those OL/WRs to see the QB. It's a little like RB alignment relative to the QB being a tell, obvious from the sideline but much harder to judge on the field if he's a bit behind or a bit in front of the QB prior to the snap.

The long con
November 16th, 2018 at 8:54 PM ^
Was Barrett any different? In order to get to the handoff point on those runs the QB has to go forward after the snap, so he's naturally going to lean forward. I think this is just OSU fans reaching for an easy fix to a potentially crippling problem: their O-line is mediocre.
Haskins has also tried something like QB Oh Noes (play action where he takes a step forward to fake QB power, then drops back), but I don't remember it working out that well.

Patterson doesn't do it.
November 16th, 2018 at 9:02 PM ^
This along with the narrative about Urban's health and looking weak are just part of a ploy to lure Michigan into a trap next weekend. Don't take the bait!
November 16th, 2018 at 9:08 PM ^
Urban has a tell too.
If he holds a press conference, he's lying.
If he works late, he's cheating.
If he has health problems, his team is about to get worse.
November 16th, 2018 at 9:02 PM ^
Get ready to see a ton of Tate Martell next Saturday.
November 16th, 2018 at 9:54 PM ^
Aside from key player injuries and lousy officiating, this is the biggest thing I’m worried about.
Basically the total opposite of last year. We prep for Haskins and then they trot out some secret red zone packages with Martel that we aren’t ready to defend.
November 17th, 2018 at 5:33 AM ^
If we see a "ton" of Tate Martell it is because Haskins is hurt. He has barely played and I can't see him having any success against this defense. I can see some good plays here and there mixed in with with several big mistakes. It would warm my heart to see Martell in there for a significant portion of this game.
November 17th, 2018 at 8:33 PM ^
As soon as OSU realized it had a dogfight we saw zero Martell.
November 17th, 2018 at 9:09 PM ^
Yeah but as soon as OSU coaches see the Indiana tape, they'll be making a renewed effort to game plan him in.
November 16th, 2018 at 9:08 PM ^
I mean all he has to do is switch tendencies often enough to make the "tell" fairly useless.
Annoyingly there's plenty of time to iron this out.
November 16th, 2018 at 9:08 PM ^
No idea, but I legit no joke just played Counter Strike with this OSU fan, and he said they were gonna whoop our asses. Seeing as how Counter Strike is the cutting edge of football information, I'm scared now.
Don't worry I totally gave him the business by the way

its been forever since i played Counter Strike. Did he also mention that he slept with your mom? Thats always mentioned when you getting online trolls while gaming.
