01/15/2019 - 6:31pm Do one thing well, and…

Do one thing well, and preferably that thing is man to man.

Go blue!

01/15/2019 - 6:30pm He won't.

He won't.

01/15/2019 - 6:29pm FML

Let's reinforce the…

FML

Let's reinforce the stereotypes about Michigan's most popular player being the backup QB.

Let's long for someone other than one of the most efficient QBs in Michigan's history, seemingly set to blow up in an offense that may utilize his skills much better than the one he was already efficient in.

I've already been subjected to this drivel from fans I know in person, who are otherwise nice, well meaning and intelligent, but when it comes to M football have the opinions of dolts.

I think Shea is the best shot to go far next year, and I think McCaffery has a shot to be special, too, just not as a starter next year.

01/15/2019 - 6:23pm All narrative drivel to make…

All narrative drivel to make commentators and journalists sound smarter than they actually are as they react to Clemson winning in unexpected fashion. Consistency is great until your staff stops adapting and then the narrative changes.  Might as well go with Dabo's impossible to disprove narrative of God willing Clemson's success.  The actual difficult journalism task would be to turn over the rock to see the under belly of Clemson's seedy recruiting and performance enhancing practices.  I have no doubt that Dabo is just a smarter version of Hugh Freeze, and smarter only in that he knows how to use sleight of hand better.  The NCAA doesn't give a shit as long as you don't blare your indiscretions publicly, and even if it is public, sometimes they still don't care (see: Alabama, Ohio State, MSU {LOL}, etc.).

01/15/2019 - 6:07pm I disagree.  I think…

I disagree.  I think orchestrating the things you've spent a ton of time prepping for is very difficult.  You can have a deep playbook, but being able to read what a defense is doing and being in touch with what your team can do in real time is extremely challenging.  This is why the no huddle spread approach has blown up, regardless of flavor.  It puts all the pressure on the defense.  Ohio State only has to tweak their base offense, if that.  When you're spread out and don't have time to gather your thoughts, you get exposed.

Funny, I started a similar thread myself not long ago. I would say it's worth it.  I miss Grantland, but having the Athletic subscription, a umhoops.com subscription, and the ringer somewhat make up for it.

01/02/2019 - 3:42pm Yeah, you don't have the…

Yeah, you don't have the data because Michigan was typically excellent in short yardage situations.  They struggled when they got off schedule.

12/30/2018 - 11:46pm I was frustrated by coaching…

I was frustrated by coaching too, but that same Florida team was way better coached, was missing no one, had more talent than you're giving them credit for and was playing a team down its best defensive players sans an injured Chase.  Then after kickoff, Gil got hurt, Paye got hurt, Long got hurt and Dwumfour played injured.  You can't tell me this all didn't add to a team that was probably emotionally spent, too.

Yes, the offense wasn't good enough, Don Brown was worked at times and the clock management was horrid, but this was never going to be a game that saw Michigan's best.  I did expect better, but people need to quit overstating things.

12/30/2018 - 11:42pm Not adaptable? Don Brown, Ed…

Not adaptable? Don Brown, Ed Warinner, a new S&C coach, etc.  People have no clue or patience.  Get over your emotions.

12/30/2018 - 11:38pm No big fan of him as a…

No big fan of him as a person? WTF? I have more problems with him as a coach, and I think everyone is losing their minds.

12/30/2018 - 11:33pm People need to grow the fuck…

People need to grow the fuck up.  I'm disappointed with recent events too, but I wouldn't trade Jimmy for the last three coaches and no one better is walking through that door.

12/29/2018 - 11:38pm There is zero doubt in my…

There is zero doubt in my mind that both Nick and Dabo exploit and/or break every rule in the book to maintain their "success."  Players are paid.  Steroids are used.  Not performing is the worst sin and gets you on a bus out of town.  It's a joke.  But because the fallacy "everyone does it," is so pervasive, no one will do anything substantial about it.

12/29/2018 - 9:55pm This is a bad take.  The…

This is a bad take.  The predictability of the offense makes life hard for RBs.  Other great offenses get great RB play because the defense has to cover other options.  Higdon would have been a monster moreso at Oklahoma, Ohio State, Alabama, etc.  The scheme tries to do so much that it sucks against good defenses.  This is the NFL pre-innovation offense.  At this point either go modern no-huddle spread, or what Jimmy did at Stanford.  This hybrid shit is garbage.

12/27/2018 - 5:06pm So, the new broken system is…

So, the new broken system is better than the old broken system?  In some ways, yes, but the NCAA might as well just expand the playoff because the bowls have become near meaningless as a result of the current playoff.  Bowl games are outdated because they've added more and cheapened the experience.  I'm not sure it's sustainable judging from all the empty seats this bowl season.

12/20/2018 - 7:16pm I know UMBig11's word has…

I know UMBig11's word has held a lot of weight around here, but he's been wrong an awful lot.  Not saying I don't pay attention, but he has been all over the map with his info, so not sure how accurate any of his "confirmations" are.

Stipends for players which is a yearly two way agreement, expanded playoff, but mostly everyday idiots not bitching about the decisions the players have the right to make.

12/09/2018 - 10:28pm Alabama: Systemic cheating

Alabama: Systemic cheating

Georgia: Starting the same thing

Clemson: Recruiting inexplicably got better, Dabo is smart Hugh Freeze, you do the math

Ohio State: Systemic cheaters thriving in a world where you can just dismiss facts and the distracted public move on

Harbaugh inherited a mess and a disadvantage competitively with a program that cheated its way to success under sweater vest.  He is 38-13.  Has it been ideal or above criticism? No.  It has flat out sucked at times.  But with all the overrated, impatient, bullshit narrative, I would argue that the program will continue to ascend.  This fan base acts so entitled sometimes.  We were losing to Rutgers just 5 years ago.  I don't think we'll see another OSU game like Saturday ever again.  Chill and enjoy basketball while Beilein is still around.  Football will provide its own success stories soon.

12/09/2018 - 10:17pm I don't blame any kid for…

I don't blame any kid for decommiting when their family gets put in a better place.  I blame the NCAA for enabling a system that disproportionately rewards programs that disregard the rules, however archaic.  Change the rules on recruiting, police the rules better, and see how well these snake oil salesmen continue to do.

12/07/2018 - 9:46pm WTF is this?  Michigan is…

WTF is this?  Michigan is recruiting at a high level.  Iggy will hopefully help us get to Monday night and continue the recruiting success that is being maintained.

12/06/2018 - 3:56pm Look, this is entirely…

Look, this is entirely baseless speculation, but I'm convinced Herbie and other Bucknut commentators have used their privileges at being able to attend team practices to leak info to Ohio State about Michigan (at the very least).  No one's neutral about Michigan, and we've seen the depths our rivals sink to just to be successful.  I wouldn't put it past certain folks to do whatever they had to do to try to ensure Michigan defeat.

This take is entirely bad.  Michigan recruits at a high level and Roy Williams is a terrific coach.  GTFOH

11/28/2018 - 12:00am I don't think I've ever been…

I don't think I've ever been more disappointed, angry and frustrated by Michigan football than Saturday.  Over the first 11 games there were warning signs, but I had wrongfully assumed that Harbaugh and Co. were sitting on things they were waiting all year to break out.  Instead, they tried to sit on OSU like they did every other opponent for 10 games.

Offensively speaking, they've underachieved relative to yardage all season.  They lack cohesion in play calling in certain moments and have seemed disjointed even at their most successful.  What is frustrating is that the framework for a successful offense is there, but they seem intent to burn a dozen or so plays into the ground each week.  It should be no surprise that this burned them against a team and coaching staff that seems hungrier even after 6 straight.  In the context of "The Game," that is inexcusable and unforgivable.

All the RPOs should have been brought out in this game.  All the praise heaped on the OSU LBs magically playing better was just them activating at every predictable run action and being rewarded for it.  You can fucking run the ball, but attach a pass option in the slot to punish those LBs.  Maybe even the same one Minnesota ran ad nauseum against them.  Michigan has run the same play maybe 3 times this season.  Why?

Also, Collins, DPJ and Evans should rarely leave the field.  Higdon and Evans can be on the field at the same time, but as is typical with this staff rarely are.  Urban would make Evans a Harvin type player.  Michigan subs Higdon out and runs IZ with Evans.  Like RPOs, they have the Evans perimeter attacking plays, but almost never use them.  When they do, they usually go for decent gains.

Finally, it's 2018.  Can we run tempo ever?  This has been a dabbling spread that wants to grind it out.  The grinding would be easier if we made the defense cover the width of the field more.  They dabble in zone read, but like Borges they almost never throw the easy bubble when the defense cheats in.  This is as easy as giving Shea the read if they don't want to be a sideline no huddle offense, or even attaching it as a read post snap.  It's frustrating to have the tools to have your cake and eat it, but the Michigan staff has decided they don't like dessert.

Defensively, I really have no idea what the fuck Don Brown did all week.  I know injuries, line of scrimmage, blah, blah, blah, but OSU called that game like they knew everything that was coming.  Ennui and depression.

Eat Arby's and Go blue still....Yay

11/27/2018 - 4:14pm Space Coyote is great at…

Space Coyote is great at explaining assignments, alignments and intention of plays/schemes.  He sometimes defends things too much IMO because he understands the coaches intent.  I don't even intend that as a slight as civil disagreement is inevitable.  That said, the game plan last Saturday was complete and utter bullshit.  Our players defensively looked unprepared, and yes they were done in by great athletes, but that goes back to the scheme and plan.  OSU had the defense downloaded, and down to the adjustments Michigan was reacting all game long, and predictably.  I am not saying to get rid of anyone, but this should never happen again.  Have a game plan that is ongoing year round with unique calls and checks specifically for OSU.

Stop it.

Just stop it.

The reason Michigan lost is because beating Michigan is an obsession for that school to the south.  Even after owning us for two decades they still look hungrier, more prepared, and more intense.  Yes, there were some talent issues, but the bottom line is Ohio State makes it public how much they prep year round for Michigan.  For Michigan, it's just the most important game in a season where all the games are important.  It needs to be an obsession starting yesterday, even if other game prep is sacrificed.  Just my non-impactful two cents.

11/26/2018 - 5:29pm This is somewhat ridiculous…

This is somewhat ridiculous.  Milton didn't get reps because they are saving his redshirt.  Nobody knows if Peters is leaving and once McCaffrey got hurt he is the QB who best gives you a shot to win.  All this conjecture is pointless.

Check the blog after work in an extended manner.

I'm anxious about the game, but I'm actually cautious about how confident I feel, because I feel like I can't take another dong punch after getting my hopes up again.

Usually watch the game with my Dad, brother and son at my brother's unless he has other plans.  He invites others which I have mixed feelings about.  I care way too much about Michigan football and it doesn't completely define me, but based on how I react to the games it would be easy for people who don't know me to think I'm a lunatic.  Whatever.  My Dad can't watch the big games anymore.  He'll watch Saturday's game on commercial free playback only if we win.

Saturday is the make or break game.  We won't lose the Big 10 Championship.  Winning a playoff game is icing to me, which says something about Michigan football.  Ugh.

I don't think OSU scores more than 24 assuming no OT.

11/19/2018 - 5:27pm I actually think it helps…

I actually think it helps with the teams focus and preparation.  The coaches will be quick to remind anyone giving less than full effort what the stakes are (as if they weren't anyway.)

OSU back 7 is a trash fire.  This was Michigan's worst performance of the season and t was better than many of the Buckeye games.  They should have lost to freaking Maryland if Piggy could hit a wide open guy.

Dobbins is not a "helluva lot better than Scott."  Michigan will not play or prepare for OSU like they did Indiana.

11/16/2018 - 8:31pm I think this is a great hire…

I think this is a great hire:

1) The Big 12 is all about spread air raid offense and limited defense.  Les will create a program built around defense and running the football.  This wasn't unique in the SEC, but he will have an advantage strictly as an outlier looking at different skill sets.

2) Kansas has nowhere to go but up.  Les brings the spotlight in a positive way.  Their recruiting almost has to get better.

3) Because of the above, Les should get time and I wouldn't be surprised if they peak at Ferentz Iowa levels in a few years.

I don't even know how this could end up in debacle short of scandal.  I don't think Kansas can get any worse.  The obvious question is why Les would take the job, but no other power 5 school is going to be banging down the door to get him.  I hope he creates more Big 12 chaos and wish him luck.

I'm surprised how many (probably young 'uns) want to see less ND.  I'd prefer to play them and not Rutgers and Maryland.  Matter of fact, I'd prefer Michigan threaten leaving the conference to gain some pull on forcing the exit of those programs.  It only benefits Maryland and Rutgers to have them in the conference.  As for rivals, to me it's already OSU, MSU, ND and PSU.
