As Jim Harbaugh negotiates with Chargers, Michigan now willing to grant immunity for NCAA violations

Hopefully this ends soon so we can move on either way. Let’s hope he stays at in Ann Arbor. At this point like the rest of us a decision needs to be made by Jim.

Seems a bit late in the game to grant him the immunity he's been seeking. However, I am pretty convinced that he prefers the NFL anyways - he seems to flirt with it annually under the guise of "no man knows where he will be tomorrow." He was likely never planning to finish his career in Ann Arbor.

It’s about time, but yes, it might be too late.

The latest is he left the Chargers meeting and they didn’t close. The speculation is he didn’t like something but it’s all complete speculation.

It would be great if our team knew who their coach was.  But, the timeline is not Jim’s fault and I’m actually enjoying watching teams compete for him blow by blow like this.

it's all about recognizing whether you are in a position of power or weakness.  Michigan thought "We just won a national championship!  We are powerful" and then realized that the reason they won the championship was because Jim is a great team builder.  My shrink tells me I am very self-aware.  I just call it being honest with myself.

Your move Jim.  Maybe he'll have to finally admit he just wants to go to the NFL to win a Superbowl so he can definitively win the dick measuring contest with his older brother.

Yeah. Nothing wrong with that. It just is what it is. First he wanted to see the love.  The bear hug. Then it was immunity.  The narrative was always Michigan wasn't giving him enough of a reach around.  Well we've tickled all his wild fantasies. If that's not good enough then be just wants to win a Superbowl, any Superbowl even for some Great Value shit organization that shares a stadium and has no history. Any Superbowl will do.

If this article is correct, Michigan is seeking a new buyout of only $4 million.  That's chump change.  I would have thought it would start in the tens of millions based on the remaining term.  His currrent buyout is only $1.5 million.

https://sportsnaut.com/jim-harbaugh-contract-michigan-wolverines-rumors/ Are chump-change buyouts standard practice in college football? Is there some reason preventing a buyout with teeth?

I feel like maybe the internet and social media has made people impatient.  It's been sixteen days.  It's still January.  Yes, yes, we all want to know everything immediately, and we can point to *reasons* why this is killing our chances of winning in Columbus next November, but I think "if he's going to do this every year, I wish I was never born!" is probably too much.

Tbh, Idk how Harbaugh can recover as a recruiter after the last three offseasons. He clearly wants back into the NFL - I selfishly hoped my team (Dallas) would move on from McCarthy and pursue Jim.

I’m not ungrateful for the natty, nor is this a BPONE post - I don’t think the sky is falling either way. I just respect that he wants to be back in the league and that the annual dalliance isn’t helping Michigan’s long term prospects.

Leaking this when all signs point to Jim about to sign with the Chargers feels... tacky.

All the same, can't say that Michigan didn't try to give him everything he wanted. You just have to wonder why the Chargers of all teams are more attractive than that.

Sign it or sign with the Chargers now.

This shit is destroying our ability to recruit. We're coming off a national title and there is no juice in recruiting. It's like we're coming off back to back 6-6 seasons and everyone is meh.

If the reports are true that Michigan has offered him immunity and a contract that would make him the highest paid coach in college football, we shall see if he really wants to be someplace where he is really wanted. Clearly, Michigan wants him. No man knows what a future working with a team owner and general manager will bring. If he leaves, he'll do so to chase a Super Bowl. Period.
