This is why coaches like…

This is why coaches like Lincoln Riley have such a shiny W-L record - they play most games against tomato cans that simply cannot athlete like OK, USC, OSU, Bama, et all...  Buy a little time for Caleb Williams (or Baker Mayfield, or <insert name here>) and his WR's will eventually get open.

That doesn't happen against peer teams.  Check Riley's record against playoff opponents.  Check his QB's records against peer opponents.  Not 'P5' opposition, which includes the likes of MSU, NW, ISU, ASU, GT, etc...  Check it against athletic peer teams.

It's not good...  Go back and watch the USC-ND game from last year.  You'll see exactly what Chicago just drafted.

If he was good enough to get…

If he was good enough to get that extra 9 yards, we could have won more games!

Wait, whut???

Negged for 'Mikey'.  Dude…

Negged for 'Mikey'.  Dude spells it Mike.  Just pronounces it differently - we went through this in some detail around the OSU game!

Otherwise, nice post!  I would love to see Zinter or Keegan because they need another interior OL'man and I can't see anyone better than those two in this draft.  But more defense help is what this team needs - another CB or safety would be nice.  Mike fits the bill beautifully, here!  Another LB as well, and I'd be happy with either Colson or Barrett, actually.  I think all three of those guys could make a nice little addition for depth along with pushing for more playing time if they don't start.

My money says to look at defense first, second, and third in this draft.  Unless a can't miss offensive player that you need is available, ala Zinter/Keegan...

Name one interior OL that…

Name one interior OL that got a grade above the 3rd round?  He may exist - I don't know!  But I don't think so...  The thought being that interior OL can be found almost anywhere.  But I do believe that both Zinter and Keegan have grades higher than all other interior OL, except maybe for a couple of centers.

"...he's also not the…

"...he's also not the drastic stylistic shift from Cousins that Kwesi Adofo-Mensah seemed intrigued by and that the team could have gotten from, say, Drake Maye."

So what kind of drastic, stylistic shift sstands between Drake Maye and JJ McCarthy?  I mean, I watched UNC play several games over the last couple of years.  They run a pro-style offense, similar to what Michigan ran only with more emphasis on throwing the ball.  Maye sometimes had to bail out and run away from pressure.  He's decent outside the pocket running the ball, but nobody would call him a 'running QB'.  I think JJ is more mobile, though.  The passing games were pretty similar, too, even if UNC threw downfield more often.  And I see JJ's arm as better than Maye's - far more accurate in every day situations and so much more clutch than Maye can ever hope for.

I have no friggen' clue what people see in Maye over McCarthy.  I just don't get it.  If JJ's throws are just outside of 'arms reach' when we complain, Maye's are 3-5 yards from the receiver!  WTF am I missing???

It was a terrible decision…

It was a terrible decision any way you look at it.  But Kork Coupons should just keep his mouth shut.  The guy is nothing more than an NFL journeyman QB that will lead his team to an 8-8 record by neither leading his team, winning a game he shouldn't win, or losing a game he shouldn't lose.  He should be happy as a pig rolling in slop at the very thought that he's guaranteed $90M just before retirement time.

Fuck that guy...

Great pick!!!  Terrion…

Great pick!!!  Terrion Arnold will be a really good corner for the Lions!

Trade?  Moved up 5 spots for who???

I see what you did there...

I see what you did there...

Chop is the reason JJ handed…

Chop is the reason JJ handed off 32 times in a row.  Nobody will say that because they don't look at games, they look at highlights.  He was going to eat JJ's helmet at some point in that game, and one of the corners was going to walk a pick 6 home.  Sherron made the right choices...

Didn't know that Xavier…

Didn't know that Xavier Worthy entered the draft this year.  Thought he had one more year in TX before he could be drafted...

Corner, please.  Either of…

Corner, please.  Either of the guys from Bama would be nice.

Good.  Let them give away a…

Good.  Let them give away a lot because they really improved with these two picks.

Well, this is sucking bad…

Well, this is sucking bad for Lions fans.  The Vike's improved a ton with only two picks...

"The big thing about the…

"The big thing about the Oregon offense is it puts huge training wheels on your QB that a lot of his growth and maturity might just be a by-product of the system."

This is the same criticism that JJ gets because of Harbaugh's play calling tendencies.

I'm not used to having to…

I'm not used to having to wait 29 picks for the Lions first selection.  It feels wrong...

My wife asked why the boos…

My wife asked why the boos before the Jets even picked.  I told her its because the Jets always dork up their pick...   And yep, sure enough...

I don't get Fashuno going…

I don't get Fashuno going that high, either.  I know everyone sings his praises, but he's been middling every time I see him play.  I just don't get the hype around him.  Sorta like Drake Maye, too - I just don't get it.

Just a perfect landing spot…

Just a perfect landing spot for him, but goddammit.  Now I have to root against him for the Lions.  Just sucks.  Worst place he could've ended up as far as I'm concerned...

Fuck me.

Fuck me.

The Lions need defense, but…

The Lions need defense, but if JJ is there...  Boy would that be nice...

And yet half of Michigan's…

And yet half of Michigan's defense - as good as they were - will not play in the NFL.  So WTH are scouts looking at?  Has to be the deep ball touch when there's no rush, right?

Irrelevant...  He looked…

Irrelevant...  He looked irrelevant.  The Bama DE's were the bigger threat.

Seriously???  LMAO!!!  At #6…

Seriously???  LMAO!!!  At #6, Penix will not be worth it, he loses his mind under pressure!  Whatever, Falcons, whatever...

$180M???  WTF??  I had no…

$180M???  WTF??  I had no idea they paid that much for him!

Playing style is what…

Playing style is what worries me about Daniels.  But he did what he did on the field in the SEC, where it just means more.  And its a better league top to bottom than the PAC was, where Williams played.  If you can keep Daniels from going outside the tackles too often, he should be okay.

I thought the Titans just…

I thought the Titans just fired Vrabel?  And here they are taking a Vrabel type player!

Do not want.  I do not want…

Do not want.  I do not want JJ in Minnesota.  I would prefer to enjoy the Lions running the division for a while.  But with JJ, I feel the Vikings would be in the driver's seat within 3 years.  JJ will that good...

Malik is skinny!  He opened…

Malik is skinny!  He opened up that jacket and looks like I did 30 years ago - thin.

I don't get it.  The NY…

I don't get it.  The NY Football Giants still have Daniel Jones as a QB...  YOu think a WR is going to make him a better QB?  LOL!!

They still owe Justin…

They still owe Justin Herbert $100M - you think they were going to throw that away?

Was it me, or did Alt and…

Was it me, or did Alt and his family not look excited one bit?

MHJ, and it won't be close by the time their respective careers end.  Jr is going to be the rare child that is better than his dad.

Drink your Ovaltine...

Yeah, the M defense…

Yeah, the M defense DOMINATED.  But the offense also kept track - 3&outs didn't really happen, and time clicked away quickly.  No need to score a lot of points because the PSU offense was terrible.  But their defense couldn't get us off the field without losing minutes each time JJ handed it off.  It was a stroke of brilliance to realize that the PSU defense was going to get a pick 6 or a strip sack that decapitated JJ at some point during the game, and adjust in a way that PSU simply could not counter.

I have to believe that was game planned some...  But to say they "stopped us just fine" is wiping away details that tell the story of the game, details that tell you why Michigan won that game far more easily than the score indicates.

But are there any "notable"…

But are there any "notable" reporters from MSU and OSU?

I can't see Williams being…

I can't see Williams being successful in Chicago.  His success at OK and USC are a product of the Riley Scheme - buy some time to throw it deep to uber-athletic WRs that can out-athlete most college players.  Eventually, those will hit for big gainer and/or TDs more often than the other team can score.  Until it's time to play a peer, anyway.  That shit don't work against peers - witness Riley's playoff appearances...

Every time I watched Maye, I was unimpressed.  Sure, he's an above average QB for an above-average college team.  But nothing he did impressed me.  He threw more floaters and throws in the '~5 yds from the WR' range than he did pinpoint targets.  I see him as a journeyman backup in the NFL.

Penix (and Williams to a slightly lesser extent) loses his mind under pressure.  Fuget abut it...

Nix benefitted from Oregon's roster more than any other QB may have benefitted from a roster.

Daniels' stats were very much like JJ's, but I didn't see him play enough to comment.  I'm not sure how many NFL hits he can survive, though, because he like to play outside the tackles from what I can tell.

My money is on JJ being the best QB drafted this year.  You can all pay up in 5 years, when we can make a more honest comparison.

What, you think that Amon Ra…

What, you think that Amon Ra St Brown was going to be dangled as trade bait?  You think he isn't worth locking up long term vs possibly replacing him through the draft?

C'mon, man.  Signing one of the best WRs in the entire league is only doing what the world knows you were going to do anyway.  This doesn't change anything for anyone, anywhere at any time.

This is opposite of what I…

This is opposite of what I expected!  Bizarro world!!!  I thought the G5 would have tried hard to stick with the P2, err P5, not branch off on their own...

No.  I know who you're talking about, but can't remember the name.  But this kid isn't him.  Casson is a HS recruit that was committed to Dusty at FAU, and decommitted when Dusty left for UM.

I'm not even sure about Arch Manning.  That would be pretty similar to starting Jayden Davis - they both have about the same amount of college playing time.  But I'd still take Arch.

Well, at least if he doesn't care about another $250K recruiting weekend block party.

Juwan has been nothing but class since the season ended.  He had better be warmly welcomed back to Ann Arbor - just like Harbaugh has been - whenever he does come back.
