The big clouds (AWS, Azure, Google, IBM) all have multiple regions for backup of each. You will need to make sure whatever tier you go with will have access to a backup region (or availability zone in AWS-ese, its all the same) (region is an Azure term). Also get the cost before hand. As cheap as they appear, the hidden costs behind a 'real' cloud access point can (will) surprise you when you add in the region and application layer costs you're firm will probably want. I suspect you don't have an IT staff that is cloud savvy, or wouldn't be asking here... There is a lot of configuration that needs to be sorted out if you want to do it right.

It also wasn't meant to be a play. Wrong people in... Yeah, that's on the coaches, but that game was phoned in from the head coach down to the towel boys. Don't take anything from it.
As for the offense changes, just remember the last team from San Francisco that played in the Super Bowl. That team was lead by a QB running a version of a wide open, pistol based spread set up behind a power run game.
|08/14/2018 - 3:50pm||Well, that isn't actually…||
Well, that isn't actually documented anywhere that I've seen. However, this report clearly states that Kelly decided to practice outside, and it's his 'standing orders', if you will, that practice be filmed from high up in a scissor lift. So, while he may not have directly said 'go up', it can be fairly inferred that it was his decision to send the kids up.
Edit: Fair question, though. Thanks for asking/pointing that out!

So many replies to choose from! But this one meets the spirit of my OP. What else can they say about 1-5? Well, how about this:
'Yeah, it's 1-5 and that isn't good. They were close, real close, but that doesn't cut it. So this year they're doing xxx to change things for the better. Will it work? Don't know yet, but the new players on offense look different from last years guys. Recruiting picked up, it's closing the gap - is it closed now?'
Etc... Five minutes of basic googling gives new information that would actually enlighten the rhetoric. But hey, the 'Harbaugh's seat is getting hot' narrative brings ratings from not-UM.

I'll agree that, in most cases, employers have little say in what people do at home. However, there are some jobs in which employers do have some say. And coaching at a very public, very prominent, football factory that is constantly in the middle of news cycles, is one of them. Meyer harbored a serial abuser, and lied about it. Lying betrays trust - if you can't trust someone, you get rid of them. In this case, Meyer not only betrayed trust, he brought a very bad look to a very public institution that relys on its very good public view.
Ugh... Connect the dots. Meyer needs to go, but he won't.

Well, to be fair, nobody sees a lift go over in high winds. Because they never go up in high winds! Seriously, would you climb a tree to 75' high with 50 mph wind gusts? When looking at the wheel base of you basic scissor lift, would you have gone up to 75' in 50 mph wind gusts?
Don't even try to tell us you would have.
Kelly told that kid to do it, despite objections from staff.

Nice summary - thanks!
I started watching the BTN show this morning and was immediately turned off by the common talking points - 1) Harbaugh needs to win now, in yr 4; 2) 1-5 against rivals; 3) Michigan fans expect more.
Give it a fucking rest, already! Of course Michigan fans want more - who doesn't? And put the rival record into context - it sucks, but they aren't end of the world blowouts. All DiNardo could talk about was closing talent gaps. Really? That's what you saw after a year of watching? Wow, breakthrough reporting. Yawn...
Now I'm not so excited to watch the rest of it, but I will anyway.
EDIT: BTW, Glenn Mason is just the worst.
|08/14/2018 - 9:49am||Some of what you're saying…||
Some of what you're saying seems plausible. But recruiting these players happened well before Patterson and Warriner showed up. So some of that is coincidence behind the desire to be more athletic all around the field. Onwenu and Spannelis are both large people with football talent and an ability to move well. I think that battle has more to do with overall effectiveness in both run and pass pro, than it does size. Same with JBB and Runyan, we need two tackles - JBB had issues with pass pro last year. If Runyan is looking better all around, he'll get the start. I doubt its all based on size and agility - I think all the players are pretty similar in those regards.
Otherwise, I do think the offense is being built more to spread out the ball better than we've seen in years past. All of Patterson, Peters, and McCaffrey are more mobile than Ruddock or Speight ever were. And O'Korn, despite being a decent runner, lacked a lot of other necessary skills a QB needs to play effectively at the level Michigan expects.

I'm still trying to figure out what the deal was with Rawls. Every Spring, he cornered all the praise. Every Fall, he was the spotlight of attention. Every game, he just sat on the bench. Then BOOM! He transferred straight to the NFL. Some coach had it out for him is all I can figure... Talk about the guy that wasn't given an opportunity? Yeah, you make your own oppy's, but at some point, somebody has to get you in the game when its been earned. And I always thought Rawls looked really good when he was in.

Brandon was a terrible AD! Yes, he continued the facilities improvement and brought in a lot of money. But he did a lot more harm than good! He drove away a shitload of good, experienced people. He changed game day routines to the detriment of the program. (Ex: the whole Morris situation most likely (by a mile) would not have even started, let alone blossomed like it did had he not driven people away and changed routines.) He drove away popular, successful coaches in place of sycophants. He destroyed the Dept's reputation with the public, and with vendors.
Fuck Dave Brandon. Read the book before you say something that foolish again, Dave...

What was the deal with people whining about Courtney's mom saying she wanted to bring down all of OSU? I mean, so what? She was let down by the entire football operation - from the AD down to the water boy that overheard something in the locker room at some point. Meyer, especially, harbored a serial abuser - and let her down.
Why the hell wouldn't she want to bring down the entire operation?

Harbaugh flipped him from Texas in 2015, where he was committed as a QB. The only QB's on the roster were Speight, Morris, and Malzone (on scholly, anyway), and he spent his redshirt spring in the QB room. The move to TE didn't happen until 2016, so I don't think he came here expecting to be a TE. I also remember that he was a little upset, at first, with the move.

I want to laugh at your predicament, but no, I will not. My wife tried a dark red cover over primer, to no avail. Think she was 4 coats in when she gave up. As said previously, go with a high quality tinted primer, and then a couple of coats of high quality paint. Your basic white primer and Joe's Hardware Store paint won't get it done right...

Nice post - an excellent description of polygraphs. I've taken 7 or 8 of them in the course of my job, and they can be fooled - but it's difficult to do so. To fool them, you have to have no conscience. Any conscience - any thought that your unfairly fooling the game, and it catches you. Richard Ames fooled a dozen of them because he has no conscience. He's also in prison for the rest of his life, anyway...
|08/06/2018 - 8:41am||Reading this, and listening…||
Reading this, and listening to some radio talking heads, one thing gets me. Meyer's supporters are asking what he was supposed to do without charges. Meyer's own autographed eulogy says he reported it up his food chain and they did nothing, so he did what he was supposed to do and should be free to go.
This is the Joe Paterno defense. Listen to the Joepologists - he reported it to his boss, what else could he do? He's 'clean'... Same thing Meyer's apologists are saying.
The talking heads (radio, TV, print) are all calling him for not doing something because the reputation of the school was at stake. Yet, I still don't hear them calling out Joepa that way. And, when Meyer's suspension is up, you won't hear another word about how wrong a person he is. All the talking heads, led by the OSU alumni in the CFB press, will be back to signing his praises. All of the current hand-wringing will be forgotten.

I'm not going to believe for one simple second that Meyer wrote that statement on his own, without a lawyer. And if his personal lawyer was involved, so was OSU's corporate lawyers. If he acted on his own to make a statement outside of what his employers are directing, he'd have been fired for it and OSU would already be throwing him under the bus.

Superstitious? Yes. I will breath in when looking at UM, and exhale when looking at the other team. My wife calls me on it, too... I will also sit in certain spots - changing positions when things start going against the good guys.
And I find all of this really weird, because I don't believe much in the whole superstition thing. I will intentionally walk under ladders, open umbrellas inside, and jump behind a black cat, all to get a reaction from some superstitious jockstrap. Its ridiculous, you know... But don't ask me to change my game day behavior if it's been working!

Legit questions, sure? If Meyer were a doctor, it would be a legit question. But he's not. He's the multi-millionaire head of a football program that headlines an athletic department with a 10 figure budget at a nationally renowned school. There are more optics here than some doctor and nurse combo. Perception is reality where public concern can be concerning. Just because some nondescript doctor doesn't care if his nurse beats a spouse, doesn't mean that Meyer doesn't have to be concerned about covering up for a serial abuser.
You attempt at rationalizing this fails the common sense test.

|08/02/2018 - 11:52am||There is no way in hell that…||
There is no way in hell that police arrests, domestic violence, and the entire coaching wife staff knew about what was going on without the Athletic Director also knowing. When you add in that a police report was changed after the fact, there is no other choice than to believe it's a Baylor/PSU/MSU level issue where authority outside the university is also involved. That being the case, there is no chance in hell that the football coach had control of it. Control on that level rises to the AD and/or school president (all of MSU/PSU/Baylor fall in this category). I wouldn't be surprised of the OSU BoT also knew. Wouldn't be surprised, at all...

|08/02/2018 - 9:22am||1) I don't think this really…||
1) I don't think this really has anything to do with the B1G, but some people will say it does. A lot of us (most of us) (ALL of us) easily lump the SEC together with cheating. We also remember the old So What's the Charge conference (the former SWC, for you youngin's). These are situations where a certain few schools tipped the iceberg over, and now everyone is to blame. Some people will go that direction with the B1G. So what...
2) This will hurt OSU temporarily. But whoever they get to replace Meyer will be a top-notch coach that will win from the start. Whoever it is will have an excellent set of players, great facilities, a sold-out ~100K seat stadium with rabid fans (literally), fantastic AD support, and media flocking to prostrate anything positive. Harbaugh took over a crappy 5-7 roster and went 10-3 - don't think that OSU will appoint some schmuck that can't win with the bevy of 5* talent on that roster.
One other thing that bothers the shit out of me... I heard yesterday a bunch of talking heads extolling the virtues of OSU because they fired Tressel for simply 'lying' to the NCAA. The connection is that if they fire Tressel because he just lied to the NCAA, surely they'll cast off Meyer for his much worse actions. The problem with this is that OSU would not have fired Tressel for lying about clear violations of well documented NCAA rules to both the NCAA and his boss (the AD, Gene Smith) except for the little fact that it helped them avoid a show-cause. In fact, that 'virtuous' institution welcomed Tressel back with open arms and carried his cheating ass off the field in triumph.

But it is nice to see some posted - occasionally - from the likes of UMBig11, Sam, Mineral King, Lorentz, et all. Sometimes, the front page recurring items (UV, recruiting updates, etc) provide some news also, though those are mostly in the catch-up category.

This is unclear to me, so I'll go off and googleize it. Just saying the 'T' is confusing. So, while I'm over at Google gooleizing, I'll try to find a smart pill, also...
