Someone e-mail Harbaugh those pictures of the maize pants.

Every major sport could probably use a little trim on the number of games save for football. But, it will never happen. Too much cash on the line each game.  Eventually the World Series will be played in Dec in a neutral setting down south like the Super Bowl.

Don't think Enos did anything wrong here.  Didn't think I would type those words when I woke up this morning.

01/16/2019 - 8:23pm I think he is a good OC. …

I think he is a good OC.  His squads have put up some decent DVOAs.  I just think it is a weird marriage.  He wants to run the ball and control the clock and the Lions just gave a lot of their cap space to a QB who is best suited throwing the ball downfield (imo).

If the Lions wanted to be Seattle they should have let Stafford walk, tanked, built up the D and then drafted a QB when it was ready. This puts a lot of pressure on them building a D.

I believe you get that capability at 500.  I will throw you a +1 to help you on your journey haha

01/16/2019 - 4:41pm He should be more…

He should be more accomplished.  He has a 30 year head start.  Recruiting is a young man's game.

I'd rather talk about gravy and I don't even eat gravy.  I learned today there are different methods for adding flour to the runoff of cooked carcass.

Tate needs to run.  Maybe Diaz will bring in a different system than Richt.  It has been a couple since I watched that series.  Do you remember where that third QB was going?  I would like to see if he has played at all.

Couldn't Tathan point at the OSU "investigation" and say "I don't want to play for a university that would employ a coach after that. I feel mislead"

01/15/2019 - 7:26pm I used to think that MSU…

I used to think that MSU hired Engler and told him to say stupid things so they could fire him an appear to be tough on the issue. I no longer think that.

Was he playing up any levels? There were some huge kids on that team for middle school.

Edit: NVM there was a kid about 5 feet tall trying to tackle him towards the end. Has to be middle school.

By August the Gattis'isms on here are going to be Chuck Norris-esque.  And I am okay with that haha.

I heard he was a janitor but wanted to give his dream one last shot.  He ended up being a catcher for the Atlanta Braves and being nick-named after a polar bear.

01/15/2019 - 12:10pm I don't think that is…

I don't think that is exclusive to UM.  I am not clamoring for McCaffrey over Shea but if Shea went down I would feel pretty okay about Dylan filling in.

01/15/2019 - 9:45am I am guessing they are doing…

I am guessing they are doing everything they can to not eat his contract.

01/15/2019 - 1:00am I think this is a case where…

I think this is a case where if they play 10 times they go 5-5.  2013 was so streaky, 2019 is steady.  2013 wins on their "on" nights.  2019 wins when 2013 is normal or "off."

I think 2013 had a smidge more talent but I think JB is a slightly better coach now.

An aside:  I think Poole ends up being the best NBA player out of all of them.  His game is a glove for the NBA.  Iso, ball-handling, and creating his own shot, specifically with the step-back.

Syracuse looked good running that zone. They should try that more often.

01/13/2019 - 8:18pm Belein's offense is more…

Belein's offense is more dangerous when the big can step back and shoot off the pick.  That was my biggest fear in going from Mo to Teske.  If he starts hitting that regularly, I don't know how you stop this team.

A few days ago he told a black man on twitter to shine his shoes. But, now I cant find the tweet.

Interesting timing.  Khalid Hill (I believe) retweeted a tweet of him being a douche a few days ago. Can't find that tweet anymore and Yoder made his private afterwards.

Thanks for clarifying. I was not aware you could do multiple grad transfers.

01/11/2019 - 11:38am I really like this get.  He…

I really like this get.  He reminds me of Nick Fitzgerald.  Maybe it's wishful thinking as I really enjoyed watching Fitzgerald play.

01/11/2019 - 11:28am He would have to sit out a…

He would have to sit out a year this time, correct?  He can't have too many years left.  Maybe he is looking to find a FCS school to play a year. Hope he gets some snaps somewhere.

01/11/2019 - 11:22am Do I "want" them to lose? No…

Do I "want" them to lose? No.  I also don't think it would be the end of the world to lose a couple conference games.  What I want is for this team to be ready to go when the tourney starts and to make a deep run, preferably finishing what they started last year. I trust JB will have them ready regardless of record before that point.

01/11/2019 - 10:54am I would say depth, outside…

I would say depth, outside shooting and free throw shooting. I don't know if these are true weaknesses or weaknesses relative to their strengths.  Free throw shooting has improved.  Outside shooting can be worked around and Poole can always carry everyone else.  Mathews and Iggy have other ways to score when their shot isn't falling.  Depth scares me the most.  They are more than fine right now but they are one or two bad fouls from playing some guys that aren't yet ready.

In my opinion depth is always the best weakness to have as you only really worry about it if your top guys are legit.  No one on bad teams worry about depth since they have to worry about their starters somehow doing starter things.

01/10/2019 - 5:19pm I am seeing the same thing…

I am seeing the same thing as you.  I don't know how it is going to play out and we still haven't heard anything from JH or UM on roles.  And we likely won't from JH, at least not too specific.  Right now we are all making assumptions based on anecdotal evidence.

I choose to believe JH made some assurances.  Or it would make little sense to turn down a full OC role at MD. Also, if he wanted to be co-oc he could have just remained in the same role at Alabama.

He has never called plays but no one has until they have.

01/10/2019 - 4:42pm Never thought about him…

Never thought about him saying he has one year left.  That could very well be it.  Maybe name Tressel as his coach in waiting.

01/10/2019 - 4:22pm It will be interesting to…

It will be interesting to see what UM announces him as.  I just found it intriguing the tweets used the term OC.  Also, he turned down an OC gig.  Seems like some assurances were likely made. There is a possibility JH realized he needed to streamline things between plays.

Edit:

Baumgardner tweeted that according to the athletic Gattis would be the playcaller.  https://twitter.com/nickbaumgardner/status/1083476461456158720

01/10/2019 - 4:09pm I think it would be odd to…

I think it would be odd to have a press conference to announce departures.  It seems like you would wait to announce hirings.  Makes me guess this is him retiring. If he comes back he knows he will most likely end with a losing record to JH.  At least now he can save face with 2-2.

01/10/2019 - 3:47pm It has been a long time…

It has been a long time since the words 'offensive coordinator' have been seen around these parts.  Also love that JH seems to be emphasizing recruiting with his past few hires.  Hope that trend continues.  It seemed to pay off with this year's class.

01/10/2019 - 3:36pm Wow. This could be huge. …

Wow. This could be huge.  Guy can recruit too.  Love the usage of 'offensive coordinator' in the tweet.

01/09/2019 - 9:14pm I understand that in most…

I understand that in most scenarios, but I don't know how you hold this one against UM as a recruit.  I would imagine UM was just as blindsided.  It isn't like they knew Mattison was going to OSU but let him hang around and recruit until after signing day to mislead recruits.

01/09/2019 - 9:08pm A win is always quality but…

A win is always quality but those wins aren't as impressive now as they seemed at the time.  MSU almost lost to Rutgers at home and couldn't put up a TD against Oregon.  WI got blown out by Minny. They weren't the teams their rankings indicated at the time. PSU is the best win but even they didn't have their QB at full strength.

01/09/2019 - 11:43am Sometimes the game just…

Sometimes the game just doesn't break in your favor.

I get what you are trying to say.  But, I think saying this only works when sometimes the game does break in your favor.   The OSU game was more of an addition to a pattern against good teams than a one off.

Well now what style of offense do we refer to as pro style?

He needs more than a door.

01/07/2019 - 10:27pm These teams run into 6/7 man…

These teams run into 6/7 man boxes.  UM runs into 8/9 man boxes.  Their O-lines are better but they also help them by never running into a disadvantage.  Both take what the defense gives them instead of just blindly running their best plays.

01/06/2019 - 4:05pm I have no problem with Jay. …

I have no problem with Jay.  He has proven to be a solid recruiter.

FCS conference championships don't buy unlimited benefit of the doubt for me. (not that that really means anything). I was talking about big time college football.

01/06/2019 - 3:31pm No, I think the staff should…

No, I think the staff should have figured out how to get the ball out of Shea's hands quickly and used screens to offset the pass rush.  Instead of just giving up when they got behind and running the ball and huddling down 3 scores in the fourth.

JH has also proven he will keep his friends around long after they've proven to be a liability.  You cite Qb injuries in '17 as a reason the staff turtled, but fail to mention it was coached by someone who was a friend and then let go and the line improved dramatically after his departure.

Harbaugh has proven he will do what it takes to win at the pro level.  He has still won nothing at the college level.  Unless you count the tie with OSU this year for the divisional title after they historically beatdown his team.

01/06/2019 - 1:50pm How do you know they didn't…

How do you know they didn't trust the Oline? How do you know the reason they had vanilla play calling and were risk averse was the QB injuries last year? You don't.  They put more on the Oline than most teams.  Their run plays need to be executed by everyone to work, that indicates trust.  They utilize long developing pass routes which require difficult pass blocking.  That indicates trust.

I don't buy they were conservative to protect the QB.  If that was the case OSU was the time to unleash him as there was nothing to save the QB for if they lose that game. But they rolled out the same plays and JH even said "we ran our best plays"

At the end of the day we are both speculating and you could be correct, I just don't see it that way.  I think JH is just conservative by nature and it is something he would have to change philosophically to see any changes on the field despite who he hires underneath him.

01/06/2019 - 12:39pm  This take would only make…

This take would only make sense if the UM coaches were coaching against the board.  UM coaches know more than us but so do all the coaches that they are coaching against.  Specifically, the ones that keep embarrassing them in big games.

Rich Rod and Hoke knew a lot more than all of us, too.

01/06/2019 - 12:36pm OSU's Oline wasn't elite…

OSU's Oline wasn't elite either, so they devised a game plan to get rid of the ball quickly.  UM's line isn't elite so they devised a game plan that requires the Oline to be elite.   Does it also require an elite Oline to get the play call in under 20 seconds?  Blaming the O line for all the problems at this point is the delusion.
