Dont see the point of running Mason on 3rd down.  Mostly likely you are only getting one shot to the endzone regardless.  Take it on third then kick the FG.

It would seem that Beilein has gotten back to his sweet spot in recruiting.  The scary part is this may be the worst team he has until he retires.  Guys like Livers, Teske, and Simpson will probably be around 4 years and all be very good college basketball players.

Rutgers takes one college football Saturday from me a year.  That does not make me happy.  Although, I do think they are actually moving in the correct direction.  Who knows. Not me.

Same here.  It is a lot of fun.  But, it is too many teams to follow to lay any major loot on it. Seems there is always an obvious play that everyone else sees but I miss.  A lot of fun though.  I have taken DPJ on both of his larger games.

I overreacted.  Never wanted Jim fired but was over the season after ND. Thought they were a year away (again). I did not see the O line improving like this.  Also, makes me a little sad Drevno was kept as long as he was.  Last year was a wash with the QB but 2016 with even a 1% better O line and that would have been a CFP team easily.  This O-line gets a 1st down at Iowa.  Oh well, going to enjoy this run and not worry about what ifs.

I think even if it is a close game that would be tough to sell. Unless somehow everyone else had 2 losses.  OU almost lost to Army.

Leatherwood could have played OT in the NFL at 19.

I agree. But, it is hard when you only get a few reps to give yourself up.  He wants to show what he can do.  And like you said, he has that drive in him.  I just would prefer not putting him in harms way.  Let him make some easy reads and hit a TE in the flat.

11/03/2018 - 8:20pm I didn't like running him…

I didn't like running him with the lead.  If you want to rub it in, let him drop back and throw it deep.  If you want to run clock, take the knee and get out of there or just let Tru run.

11/03/2018 - 8:17pm I never hear explanations,…

I never hear explanations, because I rock the games on mute.  Does the ref make the call or is there someone upstairs doing replay and targeting?

Exactly.  Doesn't look like he is confident in the snap/hold.  Seems to be checking the hold then proceeding.

11/03/2018 - 7:09pm Ruiz signaled first down on…

Ruiz signaled first down on a touchdown.  Have to work on that.

Wish one time they would have a WR screen where the receiver didnt catch the ball flat footed but moving towards the line.  Pretty nit picking at that point, though.

11/02/2018 - 7:09pm On N64 when I was a wee lad…

On N64 when I was a wee lad... I would be the Bucs and move Alstott to HB.  Then just run him up the middle the whole game at 3 yards a pop.

One drive this year JH should do the same.  Let Mason be half back and give it to him 10 times in a row to make a statement.  Maybe tomorrow.

10/23/2018 - 4:03pm I guess the argument would…

I guess the argument would be that Fleck actually turned a program around.  UCF was good for a long time before the bad year right before Frost took over.  He had a lot of talent to work with in a talent rich state.  WMU did nothing before Fleck. No bowl wins, no MAC championships in a state without a ton of talent and 3 other schools on the same level fighting for it.

(I still think Frost is going to be better in the long run)

10/23/2018 - 3:59pm 1.  I think Shea is the QB…

1.  I think Shea is the QB. He looks liek he is having too much fun. He probably goes end 2 early 3rd rounds either way so why not have another year in college.  Especially, since the whole O could be back.  (Except JBB and Perry)

2. Don't think Uche could get to the weight he needs to be a Winovich.  Think it is more plausible he turns into a Furbush who could still rush the passer on 3rd against spread teams in a 3-3-5.  DB has shown he will try to get the best guys on the field.

3.  No.  Don't get cute. Style points still matter. Put up 100.

4. Scott and I don't think it is close.  Followed Fleck closely as I have a degree from WMU. He is a good recruiter, don't think he is the best XO guy.  He never really beat a team he had less talent than and lost some games he should have won before his final year.  His teams were a low big ten team talent wise.  Plus, having Terrel fall into his lap as a legit mid major QB and getting Corey Davis, who ended up being the best college WR in MAC history, those were some nice breaks.

Hahaha then he flops.  So weak. I don't even think Runyan threw him.  He was just flopping so hard it made Runyan getting out of the way look like he tossed him.

I deal with a lot of fatigue issues as well.  Not specefic to ME/CFS but I know what it is like to spend several months in bed.  Ironically, your writing and this blog help me through those.  I have been down to 130 lbs, too, as a 6'1" former 215lb D1 athlete that was scary.  I know how scary the low points can be.   Hope the gofundme can help with some of the uncertainty and allow you to rest a little deeper. Take care.

10/06/2018 - 10:12am The first play with Gil is a…

The first play with Gil is a little misleading.  Gil was lined up a yard outside the hash.  Then after talking with Bush he moves over inside the hash just as the ball is snapped.  So his momentum was taking him the wrong way.   If he had stay lined up where he was initially he makes the play easily.  Although, Thorson may not have thrown it there if he was still lined up outside the hash.

10/05/2018 - 10:10am I agree with you it is JH's…

I agree with you it is JH's offense. I am not necessarily disagreeing with you about anything.  My whole argument is essentially that Pep brings nothing additional to the table.

Play calls aren't conjured up.  As you say that is a collaborative process in the beginning of the week. So Pep is part of that process.  JH has admitted that he is a bad screen coach, hence why UM never runs them. So that is an area that Pep could bring something.  I don't think he does.  I don't know for a fact, but we are fans and all we can do is speculate.

JH is not one to say no to an idea.  He ran the train. He likes to run weird formations.  There are a lot fewer shifts.  There are no unique formations (outside of motioning Ben Mason in on a play that worked).  Pep is a spread em out with a lot of WRs on the field kind of guy.  Going shotgun on the goalline screams Pep's influence to me.  I know JH had final say on those plays, but it doesn't seem like something he would even consider two years ago. They did it against ND and NW, neither worked.

10/04/2018 - 10:45pm I think you underestimate…

I think you underestimate how much Pep does.  I think everyone is in agreement that JH has final play calling approval.  The problem is there are only so many seconds between plays.

Also, when the defense is on the field JH isn't able to look at the coverages and see how the defense is approaching the offense and start to look at plays that might work next series.  That is all Pep.

You think the whole offensive staff sits down and designs plays together?  They may do that for gameplans but there is no way Pep isn't designing plays himself.  He is the pass game coordinater.  And if he isn't, then why is he even on staff?

Sure, it is probably 0% that JH watches film and says "man, pep really blew that one" but what are the odds that JH says "good shit pep?" I would guess they are pretty similar.

10/02/2018 - 9:49am My amateur fan watching…

My amateur fan watching opinion is that it is easier to script plays against UM because you know what you are getting.   Other teams you don't know what type of zone they will be in or if they will be in man.  So the play they script might not get the coverage it is best at exploiting.  UM you know you are getting a blitz and man to man.  The only variable is you don't know where the blitz is coming from.  But, if you design plays to get the ball out quickly you don't really have to worry about where the blitz is coming from.

My hawt take is that UM's defense actually comes out too jacked up.  Most of the board says UM comes out flat.  I think UM comes out flying around and teams have done a good job (especially ND) using that ultra aggression against UM.  It seemed ND let the DEs run past the first few plays and dropped screens off and had 40 yards picked up before anyone could get settled in.

09/30/2018 - 10:01am I was talking about before…

I was talking about before they had the lead.  Mid 3rd quarter'ish. Something similar to what happened on the play Higdon was called for the hold.  They were crashing so hard on the handoff at that point thought they had them set up perfectly for something down the seam.  Don't remember if they one play to Gentry on the TD drive was off a PA.

09/29/2018 - 9:25pm My unprofessional opinion is…

My unprofessional opinion is that teams start off well against Don Brown's defense bc they know what is coming so they can script a couple drives off the bat.  They may not know where the blitzes are coming from but they know they are coming and they will get man to man.

Id love to see some zone to start the game.  Just to see what happens.

09/29/2018 - 9:22pm The coaching is a…

The coaching is a disappointment.  Not the offense, I actually think that is progressing and there were some passes there that Shea just missed.  It happens. O-line looked solid. That is promising.

The penalties and the nature of the penalties is what bothers me.  I expected JH's offense to be somewhat bland, that is what he does.  But, I never expected his teams to go over 4-5 penalties a game.  Easily avoidable ones at that.  It is easy to line up correctly and not block in the back.  The one holding was phantom but they matter more when you already have 8 stacked against you.

09/29/2018 - 9:18pm McGil was crashing so hard…

McGil was crashing so hard on the handoff to Higdon.  I kept waiting for Patterson to pull it and slip Gentry behind.

You take the yards to go and divide it by downs until 4th (sometimes including 4th depending on field postion) if the answer is less than 2 it is an automatic Ben Mason carry.

I thought it was only targeting if the player is defenseless.  And ball carriers weren't defenseless.  Is that something new this year? I can't keep up with targeting.  I may have just been wrong all along.

09/26/2018 - 8:15pm I know it is only one game…

I know it is only one game against a non-good defense. But, I think the offense is better without Evans.  Not that he isnt good. Just don't think his skill set meshes well with the scheme.
