Reminds me of Denard Robinson except playing WR.  Looks to have 4.4 type speed and really good moves for just a sophomore.

06/14/2018 - 10:08pm Harbaugh is just stirring…

Harbaugh is just stirring the pot for summer competition.  In reality this is just bluster by the coaches.  Like when Zordich was blasting Hill.  Come on man, Hill is the best corner in the B1G ... wait maybe Long is better?  Yes, sir they be the two top, elite f-ing best in the nation.  Some walk-on WR McCurry is just bluster to make scholarship guys work harder this summer.  He will never see the field.

06/14/2018 - 4:57pm Mistake was we took too many…

Mistake was we took too many WRs and RBs early on.  We needed more OL numbers to get a decent stable of raw material in place.  Now we are jettisoning WRs and RBs from those early classes.  Should have built more OL depth early on given the big recruiting classes.

What is the word on the battle for McCray's spot and the entire LB two deep?  Thanks

06/04/2018 - 7:42am IDK ...

Harbaugh turned the program around instantly, with Hoke's players. Adding Rudock was key to the first season. Going 28-11 in his first 3 seasons versus Hoke's 20-18 previous 3 seasons is all Harbaugh coaching. Getting to the next level to win the B1G title and play in the CFP will take elite recruiting plus time to develop those players. Only big gripe on the recruiting front is OL which is all on Drevno. Adding Shea addresses team QB weaknesses, especially given the OL pass pro struggles. If Shea stays both years (and healthy), I think we win the B1G title in 2019. The 2018 schedule is brutal and the young WRs are still developing, yet I think we will give every team on our schedule a battle given the defense could be elite. The offense will improve in 2018, but good enough to beat both MSU and OSU on the road? We will see. Go Blue !!!

06/03/2018 - 9:01pm OSU loses 4 games this year ...

Purely on scheme change they isn’t Meyers

06/03/2018 - 8:22pm JT was a great - OSU - player ...

Haskins is a miss-fit for OSU and folks are going to scheme him to football death.

06/03/2018 - 8:19pm Going to f-ing kill OSU next time ...

would not shock me at Columbus is a total beat-down.

06/03/2018 - 8:15pm Not a great QB class for entire nation ...

06/01/2018 - 8:45pm Purdue now has ...

Boilermaker Bagmen ?

05/29/2018 - 3:19pm Seems like Wisconsin is the most ...

under-rated given the #1 OL in the country, stud soph RB and veteran QB plus that defense is always rock solid (if not elite).  This team is built for the B1G schedule.  And they did finish 13-1 last year and have most of the key players back.  To me, I would put Wisconsin as the pre-season B1G favorite maybe even ahead of OSU (JT is a tough act to replace).

The most over-rated team is MSU.  They over-achieved in 2017 and should come down to earth in 2018.  Lewerke will be contained by B1G DCs now that they have everything on film and Scott has just too many miles on his body ... both guys suffer behind a meh OL.  The MSU defense is solid but not good enough to carry the offense if it sputters and doesn't get the same imbalance of good luck they received in 2017.

05/27/2018 - 7:23pm This is good ...

Warinner is the Mattison for the OL ... whatever either guys wants turns to gold !

05/23/2018 - 10:58am Me, too ...

I was a huge fan of Peters after Speight went down and when he finally got the chance to start he was progressing well until the OL sent him to the hospital.  Now he is spooked and played terrible in the Bowl game.  Sometimes, getting ear-holed can really create game-day demons that are tough to shake.  Cases in point - JOK developed happy feet with accuracy issues, Peters lost his confidence and even the veteran Speight looked spooked in the pocket.

My hope is Shea has the skill set to manage a game with less than ideal pass protection ... his 152 QBR at Ole Miss is highly encouraging given the putrid OL they had, but that Alabama game tempers my ultimate expectations because our OL couldn't handle Alabama's crazy-good pass rush either.  So will we contend for the B1G title in 2018?  Maybe, but that schedule is brutal.  Will we contend for the CFP in 2018?  Not likely, only because our OL can't compete at an elite level versus the likes of Alabama.

I think the OL will continue to struggle in pass pro against the better DLs we face ... ND, MSU, UW, PSU and OSU.  However, if Shea stays healthy I think he can help us pull off at least 3 wins out of that bunch and put us in the hunt for the B1G title.  Beating both MSU and OSU on the road will take some exceptionally strong playmaking on his part.  But this year given the QB upgrade it is definitely possibe ... Go Blue !!!

05/22/2018 - 9:34pm So we replace VT with who? ...

Arkansas State. That is just no way to sell season tickets. I mean that isn't even worth watching on TV ...

05/21/2018 - 4:34pm Sleeper ...

is defined by a big-time contributor that has not played much (or at all) and no one is currently talking about.  I am going with Stueber ... not a starter at beginning of season but about three games in gets his chance at LT and develops quickly to be what is needed.

05/21/2018 - 4:17pm That is why Harbaugh needs to stay ...

for at least 10 years as the next 7 are likely lucky.

05/21/2018 - 11:58am LT and pass pro is the key ...

assuming Shea is the starter, protecting his blind-side is critical.  He appears to be a great playmaker when things break-down, but that left side can't constantly be an issue or he will get happy feet like JOK or get injured like Speight/Peters.  Harbaugh's offense is not the quick-hitting spread so routes demand some time to develop.  The RBs are going to need to improve pass pro alot to make JBB or Runyan serviceable on stunts and blitzes.  There are a lot of good defensive minded teams on our schedule, which really concerns me.  Like last year, this offense could be all over the map and prone to lapses in quality.  Hopefully, having Shea allows the coaches to scheme around that weakness.  And with our defense, we should be in every ballgame into the fourth quarter.  So 8-4 seems unlikely again but that schedule is a real challenge.  There are potential toss-up games in each of the ND, MSU, PSU, UW and OSU games with NWU on the road as a trap game.  Winning 3 out of those 6 games seems very doable based upon what we know today - heck, winning 4 or even 5 of those games is not a huge stretch if Shea pans out as a true playmaker.  However, if pass pro is a disaster and/or Shea gets injured losing 4 or even 5 of those games is a possibility.

and the Nike swoosh is either too large or placed oddly.  Haven't bought any Nike or Jordan gear yet and probably won't in 2018 based on what is coming out so far this year.  The other branded gear has a much better, more classic Michigan look.

05/15/2018 - 8:22am Cost of a college education ...

I worked summers in construction and was an officer in my fraternity - that work paid for 4-yrs of in-state U-M tuition, room, board and beer money. Today that same high earning job would need 28 summers to pay for the same college expenses. On a relative to earnings basis college is 7x more expensive today than fifty years ago ... in fifty more years of that hyper-inflation, academia as we know it will crumble.

No way, Joe is a redshirt all the way. 48% completion rate in high school is not anywhere near D1 level ready. Big arm? Yes, but like Shane Morris he needs to develop accuracy to be a contributor. Shane could never get there, but hopefully Joe gets it going at some point.

05/10/2018 - 2:44pm With Shea at QB in that '17 OSU - UM game ...

we win that game by 2+ TDs.   O'Korn's QBR was an anemic 108 under decent pass pro and a strong game plan.  If Shea produced his average 152 QBR under the same circumstances for that game, UM would have scored in the range of something like 38-42 points.

05/08/2018 - 7:15pm Please ...

No more reality TV. Let’s submerge that submarine and build a winning football team.

05/07/2018 - 2:22pm Highly encouraged ...

a 5-star Tate Forcier could be dynamite ... smart / skilled enough to actually run the plays as called, but athletic enough to "make a play" when the plan breaks-down.  Shea sounds exactly like the QB that this OL needs for a higher success rate, meaning all those stunts and blitzes we faced in 2017 might need to be dialed-back or opponents risk getting burned by the QB scramble.  That Shea-threat should work to increase the overall passing game results.

Also, another encouraging sign is Shea's vs Vandy stat-line improvement year-over-year:

  • 2016 ... 108 QBR / 20-46 (48%) / 220yds / 2 TDs / 0 INTs
  • 2017 ... 185 QBR / 22-35 (63%) / 351yds / 4 TDs / 0 INTs

Shea has taken off those frosh training-wheels and should be able to consistently deliver high QBR games.  Here is hoping he can pick up the offense quickly and build strong chemistry with the WRs over the summer and into fall camp.  5-star-Tate-Forcier meets N-D in only 117 days  ...  Go Blue !!!

05/05/2018 - 12:42pm The world is changing rapidly ...

my son just graduated Ross (2018) and he feels that classic b-school curriculum is a bit outdated. The big$ and high growth jobs for new graduates are Tech related. He took classes in Big Data and FinTech at Ross, but tech-related course offerings are limited at Ross. U-M has a Business Analytics degree but it is in LSA part of the IT school. Had we known in 2014 what we know today, I think he would have gone for a BS in Business Analytics and maybe a minor in business from Ross. Then work in a high tech firm for a few years before getting an MBA.

I am not familiar with UC, but it has a higher academic standing than U-M. But socially the two schools couldn't be more different. He should go to the school environment that fits his personality.

05/02/2018 - 9:25pm One sure way to avoid North Campus ...

Apply to one of the Michigan community living situations on Central Campus. The most sought after is the Michigan Research Community in MoJo. My son did that and liked MoJo with the prime cafeteria and delux rooms plus closest Hill location to CCRB and the over-ramp.

05/01/2018 - 9:20pm Our issue is the schedule ...

we play ND, NU, MSU and OSU on the road and our cross-overs are UW and UN. Beast of a schedule. We have a lot to prove but hopefully Shea is the difference maker on offense. Defense is going to be f-ing good.

05/01/2018 - 6:29pm Great winter combo at Ashley’s ...

05/01/2018 - 5:03pm Favorite depended on which night ...
  • Thursday it was the V-Bell (greek hang-out, post-UGLI)
  • Friday it was Rick's (late-night danger)
  • Saturday it was Fraser's Pub or Dooley's (after house party, with the brothers)
  • Tuesday (on occasion) it was the Blind Pig for jazz

Legal age for most of my undergrad years was 18, so all the bars were in play.  These were my favorites.  Also, I came to enjoy Dominic's and Ashley's later as an alum.

05/01/2018 - 12:17pm That 152 passer rating is looking better and better ...

in the context of Ole Miss being terrible in the run game - defenses were expecting pass and Shea still delivered a 152 performance despite the duress.  That Ole Miss OL was mediocre at best.  If we had Shea as our QB last year (despite our OL issues) we definitely beat MSU and likely win at least one of OSU and Wisconsin.  He probably could not have overcome the white-out spanking, but man would we have instantly been more competitive in the big games or what?  Can't wait for the 2018 season ... Go Blue !!!

04/30/2018 - 4:05pm Look at the Passer Ratings ...
  • Peters - 114 for the 2017 season / rank 90th
  • Patterson - 152 for the 2017 season / rank 15th
  • Forcier - 128 for the 2009 season / rank 66th

Peters would need to take a quantam leap to reach Shea's established production levels.  Forcier was never going to reach Shea's level of production and flamed-out.  Peter's can get better than Forcier, but I don't see the total QB package from Peters needed to reach a 152 QBR.   You have to be a playmaker to put up the numbers for that kind of rating, especially at a mediocre 6-6 team like Ole Miss.  My view is the potential upside for Shea at Michigan is enormous.  Once he learns the playbook and develops chemistry with the receivers this summer he might put up QBR numbers that Michigan has never seen before.  Henne's best year was 143 and Griese in 1997 was 138.  Harbaugh was the last Michigan QB to achieve a QBR in the 150's.

04/30/2018 - 1:34pm Gary has a lot to prove ...

the pre-season hype last year (All-American 2nd team) did not fully pan out for him.  Yes, he was double-teamed a ton and battled a shoulder injury that slowed him a bit.  However, he has a lot to prove inorder to jump all the way to a top 10 pick.  Those guys at DE are rare birds in their junior year.  Gary may need another season (beyond 2018) of ascending college performance to get top 10 money.  He has to prove a higher celing to be a top 10 pick.

04/30/2018 - 1:06pm Big question on the list I have is Perry ...

he has been out so long with some mysterious injury that turned him into a skelton-looking version of his former slot-ready self.  I wonder if he will regain his physcial form and needed time with the QBs this summer ... inorder to get 100% back by fall camp.  It seems like he and Martin are more in a battle for slot snaps ... whomever can maintain health may be the "starter".  But for now it seems more like a battle than a sure thing Perry can get back to where he was pre-injury.  Also, Martin has to prove he is tough enough for slot and with Gentry coming on so strong this spring, Zach may flex into the slot a ton this year taking snaps from both Perry and Martin.

04/30/2018 - 11:31am Not yet ...

Peters will compete for the starting job in 2018. If he ends up backup for 2018 season, then he will see what Shea does. If Shea returns for 2019 season, then Peters likely transfers to someplace like *Edit* ... B1G destination like Indiana will not get approved by JH.  But transfer with 2 years of eligibility is important to the school that will want him to be a starter.

04/28/2018 - 6:19pm I was there and gave Charles a high five coming in ...

what a cool guy. His messages were inspiring - be a human being and look at everyone without bias, respect your family, help others and be happy when others help you. Loved his Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson parallelisms. How his brother helped him overcome a clubbed-foot disability as a young child. It was a great day to watch my son graduate in the Big House and Charles give such an inspiring speech. But it was freaking cold ! A true Michigan Spring Commencement. Go Blue !!!

04/27/2018 - 9:54pm Tate Forcier was no where near the #1 QB in his class ...

and couldn't even play school. Word out is Shea was an honor student at Ole Miss and was the consensus #1 QB in his class winning the Elite 11 distinction from the Trent Dilfer process. This dude is elite.

04/27/2018 - 9:43pm If his medical was as portrayed by Michigan and Harvard ...

he would have been off the board in lat round 1. Now no where in the discussion in round 3 ? Yikes. Feel so bad for Mo as someone is torpedoed his draft stock.

04/27/2018 - 9:19pm There is something wrong with Mo's medical ...

we don't see the details so it must be too questionable for a big money contract.

04/27/2018 - 9:06pm Not looking good for Mo ...

medical report must have real red-flag issues. Feel bad for Mo, someone is going to steal his money. He will play and dominate thru s shitty 4 year contract and then get paid decently.

04/27/2018 - 8:35pm Sugar Shea ...

officially in the house. Go Blue !!!

04/27/2018 - 1:16pm Now that Shea appears eligible ...

Does that mitigate some of the OT / pass pro issues? I think it does, but the scheme would need to support more out of the gun passing and RPO sets. Warinner really helps lead that given his blocking experience supporting those kind of schemes. If the coaches get it going with Shea, this TEAM (because of the defense) could develop into a B1G contender.

04/26/2018 - 8:21pm Good is the new Great ...

Sugar Shea is the messiah for Michigan football.

Go Blue !!!

04/25/2018 - 7:05pm We need Shea ...

he put up a 152 QBR behind a mediocre OL at Ole Miss. We haven't had a QB produce a 152 QBR since Harbaugh's 154. Henne's best year was 143. If Sugar Shea can deliver a 152 QBR for Michigan, we are going to be damn f-ing good and a possible B1G contender.

04/25/2018 - 4:11pm Clearly so many IFs ...

but if Peters is the QB our offense will be only slightly better - my view is going 8-5 or maybe 9-4 is highly likely. The 2018 schedule is brutal.  However, if Shea is the QB all season and produces those QB efficiency numbers ?  ... B1G title is possible.  Again as many have said on the board, our defense is elite and maybe top 5, which will keep us in virtually every game.  Shea's playmaking ability is the key difference on the road IMO versus ND, MSU and OSU.  If Peter's is the QB, I don't see enough offensive production to be effective in those road battles.  Shea's eligibility and season-long health is key to being a contender for the B1G.
