I wish the legion of self-appointed internet hot-takers in the Michigan fanbase would learn a little about the personal backgrounds of these young men before spitting their bile. Lookin' at you, Braylon Edwards. Read this article and tell me how "weak" Cesar Ruiz is.

Michigan's trademark attorneys may wag their finger at Muscogee Creek (see at 2:17) for that Block M. Personally, I like the homage when high schools adopt Michigan helmets or logos.
As far as Dax, he appears to be so fast the cameraman doesn't keep up with him at certain points.

I will say I've never had a bit of trouble scrunching up an empty plastic water bottle and tucking it under my belt, usually at the back. I do that every game and I've never been stopped. I hit the water fountain at least 2-3 times for refills during a warm game.
Should I have to make like the Smugglers of Pirate's Cove and try to outwit the Hardy Boys every game? No, they should make it easier. But, sometimes, I like outwitting the Hardy Boys. And the ticket scanner dudes are no Hardy Boys.

I found the play broken down around 6:38 (the INT) to be the most depressing of them all... I mean, we kept 7 in to block 4 and still couldn't do it. Jeebus.

I was at that Wisconsin game in 2016 when Newsome got submarined. It's incredible to think that moment, as much as any other, would submarine Michigan's entire program for the next several years.
It was the one thread that undid the entire maize and blue sweater. I feel so cold... so cold...
|09/05/2018 - 12:15am||I've been totally clear…||
I've been totally clear about this before. Our problem is the offensive tackles. The solution is simple:
(1) bring in Sandra Bullock
(2) she walks onto the practice field and gives her "this is your family, now protect your family" speech from The Blind Side
(3) Runyan and JBB are instantly transformed into future 1st round NFL picks without any further practice being necessary ala Michael Oher

It would never cross my mind to give a crap about "transparency" if I were comfortable with competency. I'm getting nervous.
|09/04/2018 - 12:39pm||Agreed. There was nothing…||
Agreed. There was nothing about the O that seemed to put any pressure on the defense to make hard choices, which is the kind of thing that lets you scheme your way to free yards and wide open receivers. That's what I miss about Rich Rod's O philosophy... at least you could count on some coverage busts (i.e. "Worst Waldo" in the MGoBlog vernacular) because of design almost every game. This O just doesn't make anyone on D make bad decisions.
|09/04/2018 - 12:36pm||He was leaning back because…||
He was leaning back a bit awkwardly and off-balance because it was sailing high, but the bigger point for a DB when he knows a guy is behind him (as opposed to a WR who has the DB in front of him) is that you don't have the luxury of reaching way back with two hands, and you have to know that. Because that's exactly what happens. In that situation, you swat at the ball 10 out of 10 times, and that has to be drilled in practice.
|09/04/2018 - 12:33pm||Spending the first 20…||
Spending the first 20 minutes of a podcast (which is the entire length of some other crisply edited podcasts I listen to routinely) whining with no substantive discussion of the game, which is the entire reason anyone is listening to begin with, is just not a good approach. An (unpaid volunteer) editor would help improve the MGoPodcast product dramatically.
That said, though this was never going to be a fun listen, after losses I find the podcast to be a bit cathartic as insofar as it performs a post-mortem and brings some closure.
|09/04/2018 - 12:35am||You think play action on 2nd…||
You think play action on 2nd and long is bad? They ran PA with an empty set one time in the second half.
PA has a cost. It causes a hitch in your drop and you (the QB) momentarily take your eyes away from the action downfield. Faking to a non-existent back, I would say, fails to give a benefit outweighing that cost.
|09/04/2018 - 12:31am||I've actually been bringing…||
I've actually been bringing up the lobotomy point myself. Something has happened to him. The old Jim Harbaugh would have reacted to Braylon calling out his players by name by ripping Braylon's eyeballs and pissing on his brain. Today's Jim Harbaugh said in a flat-affect monotone "it wasn't factually accurate" or something along those lines.
What the hell has happened to Jim. Today, if Pete Carroll asked him "What's your deal?" he'd reply "I'm not sure what you mean, would you mind repeating that so I can better understand your inquiry?"

Right now I'd dream of getting far enough up the hill to qualify as Sisyphean.

Basically, he's Battalion 5.
|09/03/2018 - 3:06pm||They shouldn't burn Mayfield…||
They shouldn't burn Mayfield's redshirt, period. The only way we'll ever get out of this vicious cycle is to stop burning freshman tackle redshirts completely and suffer the near-term consequences in exchange for having a pipeline of 5th year linemen down the road. What if we had 5th year Mason Cole this year?

Agreed. Higdon's miserable block on the stunt up the middle led to Shea's interception. He barely slowed the dude down. So much for being all jacked up.

Two positives I took away:
1. Dramatically better QB play.
2. The team, unlike most of MGoBlog, didn't quit on the game.
Otherwise, Brian's note on the front page about the offensive tackles... ("the balsa wood holding up the whole damn building") was more or less spot on. Balsa wood is not a good foundation. Sigh.
