Netflix Michigan Docuseries ?

I know this is an old show, but I just got around to watching the story about the Florida Gators championship run during the Tebow years.  God I hate Urban Meyer.

Anyways - while watching, I  couldn't help but think they HAVE to do a story about Michigan and Harbaugh and this recent run.  So many great players and great stories during the Harbaugh years...  capped off with this Championship team that was just loaded with talent and personalities.

The Florida show was from the players and coaches perspective...  Mostly Tebow and Meyer, with some defensive guys sprinkled in.  It was done really well IMO.  They had a lot of controversy during those years, but the show focused on the team and how they had a drive for excellence (which is very relatable to this past team).  The hardest part for a Michigan docuseries would be to get enough time with Harbaugh for him to sit down and go through all of it.  I'd def want to hear it from Blake's perspective as well, and the defensive guys

Harbaugh isn't sitting down to talk through anything about Sign-Gate anytime soon.

For one, his singular focus right now is almost certainly on the Chargers and winning a Super Bowl. And two, I think there's a lot of things he wants to say, but the situation is probably still "too fresh," and he doesn't want to sit down, tell the world what he really thinks, just for the NCAA to come down even more on Michigan because of it.

Seems like eventually there will be a sort of "statute of limitations" kind of situation on this where enough time has passed, and the NCAA has stopped caring or maybe even doesn't exist anymore. At that point, I won't be surprised to see Harbaugh sit down and tell the world what he really thinks. Until then, I don't think he wants to do anything that could hurt Michigan. The NCAA can't touch him anymore, but they can certainly go after Michigan, and I think they would if given the opportunity.

The championship run itself probably will only interest Michigan fans and maybe a few sicko fans from some of the opposing teams we played.

The SignGate stuff with Stallions however is more of a national story but I’m not sure it’s a cultural phenomenon worthy of its own documentary as it stands right now? That said, if the rabbit hole goes much deeper than what’s on the surface and Stallions or other players have additional information, I could see the intrigue.

Lastly, I’m not really interested in any documentary that would take the “shine” off the championship or players accomplishments just for the sake of entertainment. If they want to do a 30 for 30 10-15 years from now, cool with me but it’s not worth it at this current juncture IMO.

I can already see the populations of East Lansing and all of the State of Ohio curling into the fetal position muttering to themselves "any day now...vacated wins...cheaters...it was only 5 bad plays...Blue Wall..."

So not to thread-jack but I went to the OSU/M basketball game yesterday.  My son is a Freshman at OSU and I wore my Michigan National Championship 3/4 zip pull over and my Michigan National Championship hat.  We ate at Tommy's pizza (for anyone familiar with Columbus this is their Cottage Inn and has only recently reopened) and then had a few beers at the Varsity Club before walking into St. John's arena.

I was fully expecting lots and lots of "OMG Cheaterz" comments from randoms but in reality, I got zero.  Absolutely zero comments from anyone other than when we were entering the building the ticket scanner lady said "hope you have good time today" to our group and when she saw me she said "except you" which was pretty funny IMO and not the least bit offputting.

Zero comments from anyone on the walk in, the walk out or in the bars & resturants pre & post game.  Me thinks the twitterverse is not a reflection of real life.

Truth hurts and the results speak for themselves. I’m guessing OSU fans and alumni have come to grips knowing what little impact they perceived the scandal had at the time and at the very least accept how the season played out.

Good to hear the chatter was at a minimum and hope your son has a successful semester!

The truth hurts, and facts are facts. And what the truth and the facts say is that Michigan has won three straight times and are national champions. They won with an interim coach, without Harbaugh on the sidelines, and without their sign stealer guy. Michigan went 15-0, something OSU has never done.

And then with Charlie Baker saying Michigan won "fair and square," that was the final nail in the coffin for all the OSU fans clinging to the hope that the NCAA would actually strip Michigan of its wins and the title. Whatever comes down the pipe, it won't be vacated wins and titles, so OSU fans have to contend with the fact that Michigan actually won the national championship, and that its not going anywhere. Ever.

If they want to stick their heads in the sand with all the MSU fans, say it never happened and keep muttering "CHEATERZZZ" to themselves, then that's their cross to bear. I think most everyone else has accepted that Conner Stallions was not the grand master responsible for the last three years, accepted Michigan won the title, and moved on with their life.

All OSU fans can say is "wait until next year," and then that's when they realize that saying that is exactly what they gave Michigan flak for all those years when all we had to cling to was "maybe next year will be the year." So they have no choice but to shut up, put their head down, and hope that their bought and paid for super-team can manage to get the job done.

Plus, add to that that they were about to go watch two very bad basketball teams play each other, and no one can get all that excited over that. Congratulations, you beat an 8-21 Michigan team. Michigan basketball is demonstrably worse than OSU basketball, but OSU is a fringe bubble team at best, so not much for them to gloat about.

Wait a minute.  Do you realize that if you take away every Michigan scoring play from the last three seasons against OSU - that Michigan would have been shut out in all three games?

Of course - I also appreciate this "little stat".   I believe that Michigan has only punted once - in the second half - of the last three games against O$U - combined.   Yes - six quarters of play - with the result of the game in the balance - and, the Buckeyes only forced Michigan to punt once.

I couldn't remember which game it was that they punted - it was 2022 - and quickly scanned the play by play for the past 2 games. I had forgotten that they scored on all 4 possessions in the second half of last November's game, and a glance at the play by play was a stark reminder of why the game felt much closer than it could have been - not converting drives into TDs.  Hopefully next year in Columbus (or, even better, in the playoff) we'll see a Michigan team that has shown steady improvement throughout the season and - while I'll a take a win over OSU however Michigan can get it - does a better job of turning drives into TDs.

The story of this team will be called the NFL. Much like the 1997 team was stacked with NFL talent, including those who didn’t graduate to the league for another year or two like Tom Brady the same story will unfold here.

As stated repeatedly here by others, the development, coaching and character building were off the charts. Oh, and a degree from U of M, and it’s alumni vast network isn’t the worst thing to fall back on.

The best story is the one told by the naysayers who just can’t stop proving how pitiful their bleats are. Stop piling on, we get it, you’re insecure.

Hopefully it can be the Michigan story, as told by Jim Harbaugh. Bc the Florida series was just Urban Meyer sucking himself off for 4 episodes.

The Florida “documentary” was more like “an important piece of the Urban Meyer Image Rehabilitation Project”

Dude is trying to get back into coaching, I’d bet money on it. So he signed onto a puff piece. It was about as much of a documentary as the Netflix Cleopatra thing was.

I think he's probably done coaching, but after his absolutely disastrous tenure with the Jaguars (if it was even long enough to be considered a tenure), I think this documentary, as you alluded to, was very much an "image re-builder" for him. They touched on a few off-field issues here and there in the documentary, but overall it was a very sanitized documentary that focused more on the winning.

Meyer (and especially Tebow) were NEVER going to sit down to do that documentary if Netflix went into all the really bad stuff. It was probably a condition of their doing the documentary that "We will talk about X, Y and Z. That's it. No other questions, no other topics, no discussions of Aaron Hernandez or we walk off-set and don't come back."
