I believe that's code for "out until the Michigan game"

The guys who normally feed us and give us beer bailed this week.  Any of you guys mind if we crash your party?  If so, where should we go to hook up with you?

09/18/2018 - 9:17am Rise & Fall of the Strength…

Rise & Fall of the Strength and Conditioning coach at any Big 5 football program:

Part I - New S & C coach is announced to much fanfare and ado.  Team and fanbase proclaim that the new S & C coach's amazing new methods will yield even more amazing results on the field.  Entire team is quoted as saying "we've never been this strong, this fast, this agile before.  His new methods are nothing short of revolutionary!!!!"

Part II - Players cramp up during game.  Some get injured.  Games are played where the the team of the new S & C coach gets pushed around a bit on the field.  People start to question these amazing new methods.

Part III - Nothing changes on the field for the team itself.  Players stay, relatively speaking, as strong or weak compared to their team mates and opposition as they were before the amazing new S & C coach was hired.  Team's win/loss record is what it is and the S & C coach's impact is minimal at best.

Part IV - Head coach fires S & C coach and replaces him with someone even more amazing and revolutionary.  Team and fanbase proclaim that the new S & C coach's even more amazing new methods will yield even more amazing results on the field.  Entire team is quoted as saying "we've never ever, EVER been this strong, this fast, this agile before.  His new methods are nothing short of revolutionary!!!!"

Rise, repeat.

Wow.  That's sure gonna make Scot Frost's mom mad.

FWIW if I was a degenerate gambler I'd take Nebraska right now +18, wait for the line to drop to about +12 or so and then bet Michigan and hope for a middle where you can win both bets but cant lose both bets (a gambler's dream).

09/17/2018 - 3:21pm Good points all (and I agree…

Good points all (and I agree more than I disagree with you)

1. I love all the things you described: "Its about being in Ann Arbor on a gameday and feeling the excitement and buzz of the crowd. Being with friends on the golf course and walking down Hoover with tens of thousands of people, its about being in the stadium and being part of the atmosphere of the game etc"  I couldnt agree more.  Those things (plus the tailgate) were what kept me coming back year after year.

2. I watch the non critical games (like SMU) with my wife and she doesnt know the score either so we're both equally surprised at the outcome.  The big games I do watch live for the exact reasons you describe.

But remember attending a football game is a zero-sum-gain experience time wise.  If you're there, you're not someplace else doing something else.  And for almost 30 years I was there.  For a 3:30pm game I would leave my home in Medina at about 9:00am and get home around 11:00pm or so.  That was my entire day.

This past Saturday however while Brian was "enjoying" the game day experience in person I was on a jet ski with my wife and son on Lake Erie tubing and wake boarding.  And when that was done I grilled ribs, drank a few good beers, made a bonfire and looked out on an amazing sunset with my wife.  Then I watched the game.

I dont want to trade back.

09/17/2018 - 2:33pm 1988-2014 held season…

1988-2014 held season tickets and seldom missed a game. Gave them up when the Hoke/Brandon combo package basically broke me emotionally.  Since then I've been to one game (OSU last year) and I dont miss it a bit.  The view, the adult beverages, the food and most definitely the bathroom is better here in Medina, Ohio than being there.

Interestingly enough I now seldom even watch the game live unless it's a really big game.  I record them, turn my phone off and watch them without commercials, half-time bullshit and other stoppages of play.  Saturday's game, for example, I watched at about 10:00 pm (took about 90 minutes) and then watched the OSU game the same way.

God speed season ticket holders.

Pro tip:

When it comes to injuries, suspensions and general what-have-you, everyone everywhere is ALWAYS "back for us".

Our presence on a team's schedule works like a miracle drug for trainers.

How ironic.  I only have one complaint about this post.

It's ridiculous.

09/16/2018 - 5:00pm Dont fucking cry for me…

Dont fucking cry for me Argentina.

Our fucking kicker here in Cle has a kicked blocked last week which would've won the game and this week missed TWO extra points and two FGs in a 3 point loss.

You're not wrong

09/14/2018 - 3:44pm So here's what's going to…

So here's what's going to happen.  Were gonna smash the heck out of SMU, Nebraska and prolly Northwestern too.  Maryland will be a bloodbath so we're gonna sit 5-1 and ranked about 10th when Wisconsin comes to town.

And that's when we'll find out if the ND game was a first game fluke or who we really are.

Enjoy the next month.  Its gonna be fun.

09/13/2018 - 8:11am Problem 1 is solved with a…

Problem 1 is solved with a quick and expeditious banning.

Problem 2 is different IMO. I think one very famous (here anyways) poster got very upset about a year ago when a parody thread was created and not immediately removed by the mods.  He was upset and candidly deservedly so.  It was pretty mean spirited and the creator of the parody thread was never identified.

He was (still is?) a big proponent of user name validation and my guess is he thought by creating multiple user names he would somehow "force" the blog to take action to control the creation of new accounts like the one created for the sole purpose of mocking him in the parody thread.  How it spiraled this far out of control is anybody's guess but last night LSA 2000 FINALLY started caving the multiple names.  I think that issue might start to go away now.

09/13/2018 - 7:38am So you just HAPPENED to…

So you just HAPPENED to guess which user names got caved, checked to see if they were still active, and were right every time?  That's hilarious.

It's over man.  Give it up.

Thank you LSA 2000.  Thank you

09/13/2018 - 6:07am How did you know which…

How did you know which accounts got banned?  Only way you COULD know would be if they were yours and you tried to access them

09/12/2018 - 6:36pm I actually agree with you…

I actually agree with you here that so far, his production has been underwhelming as compared to the hype coming in.

That being said however I also agreed with you back in 2010 that RR got screwed over and we were nuts for not giving him a 4th year.

So neither one of us know shit apparantly.

09/12/2018 - 4:20pm It kinda depends on the…

It kinda depends on the grade they get wouldn't you think?  So my guess is Mr. Runyan doesnt think too much of Brian's film breakdown these days.

09/12/2018 - 4:16pm I'm pretty sure Gary Moeller…

I'm pretty sure Gary Moeller used to but sadly he got fired.

I wonder if more coaches and players would post on the board if Moeller hadn't been fired?

Very true but you know the old saying:

"Desperate times call for desperate press conferences"

Or something like that.

09/12/2018 - 12:39pm Yes.

Yes there is.

Yes there is.

09/12/2018 - 12:05pm Why havent we really seen…

Why havent we really seen the "Stanfordization" of Harbaugh's offenses at Michigan?  Why have they remained basically vanilla?

Do you think Shea is a legitimate "one and done" player here?

09/12/2018 - 10:35am Well if you ever wondered if…

Well if you ever wondered if the team hears you when you boo his using the word "relax" ought to assure you that yes, they hear them and internalize them.  Same goes for comments made here and elsewhere about specific players I'll bet.

As stated in an earlier thread this week - the problem with booing is it's not clearly targeted so while you might be mad as hell at the coaching staff for the play-calling the team hears them as displeasure with their play.

Full disclosure I did boo like hell, once.  It was near the end of the Carr tenure and Debord called something like a two yard out pattern to the TE on a 3rd and 10 so the play had NO chance of being successful and this was at the end of an entire game of uber-conservative play calling so I let loose and boo'd for all I was worth.  I was PISSED at our fucking OC and the insanity of what he was doing.  On the way home I listened to the post-game show and one of the players was asked about the booing (I wasnt alone obviously) and he said "I hope our FANS realize we're doing the best we can " or something like that.  I felt terrible cause it was not directed at the players at all but that's how he heard it.  So I never did that again.

09/12/2018 - 9:29am I know you take a lot of…

I know you take a lot of shit over Draftegeddon (and it's warranted) but this, FWIW, is probably my second favorite non-Brian feature behind only opponent watch.

This really is helpful for those of buying individual tickets on the secondary market.  Thanks Seth.

I'm going to go way out on a limb here and guess that Pat was NOT a political science major at Northwestern.

I get his complain about downfield lineman.  His analogy about communism though makes no sense whatsoever.

09/11/2018 - 2:40pm Still gives me chills to…

Still gives me chills to this day.  I dont think I've ever yelled so loudly watching TV as I did when this goal in double OT went in.

Love, love, LOVE Stevey Y - Come home!

09/11/2018 - 2:15pm My one and only piece of…

My one and only piece of Wings memorabilia sits above my bar at home.  I was the high-bidder on an autographed, framed Steve Yzerman #19 home jersey.

The only problem is he signed the front of the jersey next the Wings logo, not the back next to his name.  So if I displayed the autographed front nobody knows whose jersey it is and if I display the back (which is what I decided on) nobody can tell it's autographed except me.

Loved Steve Y.   He was the guy more than anyone else who led us from the Dead Wings of the 80's to the dominant team of the mid 90's and beyond.  Welcome home!

09/11/2018 - 1:07pm That's absolutely not true. …

That's absolutely not true.  Perles did do something, in fact, he did quite a bit.

He stopped any police investigation into the incident and made it all go away for over 25 years.  That's certainly not nothing.

09/11/2018 - 12:42pm This is absolutely…

This is absolutely unbelievable:

Davis went to the MSU police department.

“The police told them that since she was an athlete, she had to report it to the athletic department,” according to the court documents. “The detective explicitly told them that he was powerless to investigate anything that takes place to the athletic department and to go to the athletic department.

“(Davis) explained that the athletic department already dismissed it and the sergeant responded that George Perles is a ‘powerful man,’ and she should just drop it.”

09/11/2018 - 12:37pm And yet for a huge portion…

And yet for a huge portion of the fanbases of our two biggest rivals, MSU & OSU, these things mean nothing if their football team wins games.  They ARE embarrassed by losses on the football field but stories like this dont trouble them in the least.

This is truly horrible if proven true.

09/11/2018 - 12:24pm Hey welcome back.

Hey welcome back.

09/11/2018 - 11:14am If and when this place EVER…

If and when this place EVER goes to a phone number or IP address verification before issuing user names you're gonna be amazed at how many posters simply vanish.  The problem the mods have is you can cave a user name but all they have to do is turn around and create a new one.

You'll notice that all the names you listed plus all the names I listed have one thing in common.  They all are high usage posters who seemingly rack up 2-5K points overnight and know their way around here very, very well.  And they all just joined because of one of two reasons:

1. They lurked for a really long time and just recently decided to join (explains why they know so much about the other posters here and board history)

2. Their "friend" is a long-time member and told them all about the place so they decided to sign up.

But I do agree with MichiganFan 1984 on one thing.  It's all entertainment so if Brian/Seth dont care why he hell should I care so I really don't.  Doesnt mean I cant bust balls on him though......

09/11/2018 - 10:24am Actually it was which is why…

Actually it was which is why so many posters recognized you immediately.  It was you, doing the world's worst black guy imitation, but you shone through all of it plain as day.

And you probably want to get a new reason for the fact you've  been here for many years but just now decided to join.  You've used the same one for the last three or four screen names and it's getting kinda stale.

09/11/2018 - 10:00am At least Timmay only goes by…

At least Timmaay only goes by Timmaay and not Franklen Hatchet, Benn, Discuss man, MichiganFan 1984 and probably 100 or so more I cant remember.

You do realize you can change your screen name and your avatar but you cant change your writing style, your core opinions on things and how you express yourself right?  It's why law enforcement can so quickly identify people based solely on writing samples.

09/10/2018 - 9:52pm I thought the same thing…

I thought the same thing-this team has totally quit.

Hey my Brownies may have been especially bad last year but they never quit.

Ass kicked yes.  Quit no.

This Lions team has flat out quit.

09/10/2018 - 9:31pm Sorry guys.  You are in for…

Sorry guys.  You are in for a long, long season I fear.

The Lions do not look good at all.   And I'm a Browns fan so I know a thing or two about shitty football teams.

09/10/2018 - 3:49pm Well it sure held true for…

Well it sure held true for the shithead I had to sit next to.  Freeloading loser with a capital L in life.

Did I mention he was unemployed?

Oh...and that fucker had bad teeth too.

09/10/2018 - 3:45pm Well thanks I guess but I do…

Well thanks I guess but I do think my current reputation as a pessimist isnt really fair.  I pride myself on being a realist, not overly up or down on the program as a rule but merely a reporter of what I'm seeing and my predictions are based on fact, not emotions or feelings.

I'm the guy that we're supposed to go golfing and the weather forecast calls for massive thunderstorms says "let's reschedule" not "fuck it, let's go. Maybe it wont rain and besides i REALLY want to go golfing."  Decisions based on fact (crappy weather forecast) not emotion (I really want to go golfing).  Does that make me a pessimist?

Want I want to happen (Michigan winning) has zero bearing on what I think will happen.  So if what I see makes me think we're gonna lose I predict that (and I did with Notre Dame) and for that I'm labeled a pessimist.  If I think we're gonna win I predict that (like i did incorrectly last year against OSU) and then I'm labeled an optimist.  But I really dont think I'm either one - just a coldly rational old dude whose seen a LOT of football over the years.

09/10/2018 - 2:27pm Back in 2010 I had the…

Back in 2010 I had the ungodly misfortune of setting 2nd from the end of a group of six of us where the person on the far outside was none other than the very, very angry and drunken unemployed 40 dirtbag nephew of our tailgate host.  To this day I dont know why I was sitting there (my seats were actually better) but for reasons unremembered there I found myself.  And this was the Michigan State game which went a bit worse than hoped, especially after the first couple of drives when Molk had his knee destroyed.

Anyways, what I remember most about that game to this day was not the game itself but the drunken, unemployed, dirtbag nephew (who, by the way never contributed a DIME to anything at the tailgate) standing and screaming after the first play of the game:

Purple faced, screaming, spittle flying.  And all this after about a three yard gain.   First play.

And. it. never. stopped. all. game.

09/10/2018 - 1:07pm Still favored in all games…

Still favored in all games except OSU as of now.

Lose the game against Wisky and the MSU & PSU games will change in a hurry.   Win all three of the gauntlet games and watch the OSU prediction needle move to the middle.

09/10/2018 - 1:02pm The last time Michigan…

The last time Michigan decided to put something on film for the first time before a big game was Minnesota in 2011 when we got to see Denard run the speed option for the first time in a 58-0 blowout of Minnesota just a couple of weeks before the MSU game.

Still drives me insane Hoke & Borgess put that on tape when they did and didnt save it.

09/10/2018 - 12:58pm Totally agree, especially if…

Totally agree, especially if the one loss is to Wisky which would mean we'd have all the tie-breakers going in our favor for a change against MSU & PSU.

That would set up the OSU game for a shot at the B1G title game.  Which would be nice.

09/10/2018 - 12:51pm Mike's was ABSOLUTELY good. …

Mike's was ABSOLUTELY good.  You guys think the 2016 game against OSU was bad?  Take a look at this call (and check out who did color for ABC that game).

And yes, BOTH officials for that game were Ohio HS coaches for god's sake.  Michigan getting screwed by the B1G officials in the OSU game - a tradition like no other.
