"Clearly yet another…

"Clearly yet another indication that the hammer is about to fall on the program.  Dennis must've caught wind of the upcoming NCAA death penalty that will strip Michigan of all their wins over the past three years and will vacate both their B1G titles AND their national championship.   It's coming, hoo-boy it's coming and when it hits it'll a plague of biblical proportions on the sCum football team."

Sincerely,

Ditto Pete.  Hate what…

Ditto Pete.  Hate what happened, love that we moved swiftly to quarantine the PR damage.

Like someone said above, a world of difference in .11 & compliant vs .24 and belligerent.   I’m sure they’re looking now at the details of what actually happened.

Exactly how is this on Warde…

Exactly how is this on Warde?

Look, I hated Warde before it was cool but short of disqualifying any applicant that drinks (or had a DUI 10 years ago) I’m not sure how he prevents someone from doing something stupid at 3am.

It’s also his second offense…

It’s also his second offense.   Had another his senior year in college according the article.

<insert not great Bob gif>

“Michigan is a better job…

“Michigan is a better job than OSU”

Is it?  I honestly don’t know the answer here.  They are far more willing to spend NIL dollars but have a shorter tolerance for failure (if Howard had the year that Holtzman had Warde probably would’ve extended, not fired him).

Both are football schools first and foremost and basketball definitely takes a back seat.   OSUs admission department does not take the position of being the program’s goalie to keep transfers out.

Both schools have had traditionally strong bball programs so that’s a wash IMO. Personally I think it’s a tie, if we both want the same guy it’ll come down to dollars and committment to NIL IMO.

So that reminds me….did you…

So that reminds me….did you hear about the Jehovah Witness with a hair lip?

Poor fella spent all day going door to door trying to spread the word of dog.

I’ll be here all week, don’t forget to tip your waitress.

In fairness the comments by…

In fairness the comments by both Warde & Juwan were made immediately after the game ended last night.

Warde was literally standing next to Juwan when he said that - my guess is he was simply looking for something positive to say in that moment, I didnt take it as some ringing endorsement for the future.   And what the fuck is Juwan suppose to say?  "We sure sucked again today, didnt we.   I really dont know my ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to coaching basketball".

I wouldnt read anything deeper into either comment given when and where they took place.

My God Perkis that is well said.  Hang that post in the fucking Louvre

On an actual positive note I…

On an actual positive note I started betting the hell out of whoever Michigan was playing as it became clear they didnt give a shit anymore and absolutely cleaned up.  It was very easy money as they never came close to covering the spread from the Purdue game on.

If we have endure being embarrassed on the court at least they made it financially attractive.  What a a joke of a season.

Well......if you could point…

Well......if you could point me to one of those 100 that has an ex-assistant for OSU who coached alongside Alford and has a bit of a chip on his shoulder against the current program I'll be sure to listen to what they have to say.

At least inside my Browns/OSU twitter feed (and I probably follow most of your 100 there due to my Browns fandom) the reaction has been either "no big deal" or "OMG traitorz" but nobody is talking about why it happened.  Smith was the only one, so far at least, that has done that.

Here's why -he's an ex OSU…

Here's why -he's an ex OSU coach who still has relationships in that building.  He coached alongside Alford for several years so he knows first hand what Alford is like and why he likely left the program.  I am in no way vouching for the guy but if you want actual on the ground information on this situation I'm not sure where you'd go for better insight.

I follow a LOT of OSU reporters simply because they cover both the Browns and the Buckeyes.  He's the only one who's insinuated there was disfunction in the offensive coaching staff last year and he's the only one who thinks the Day/Kelly combo led to Alford's leaving.  He might be wrong but his explanation makes a lot more sense to me than anything else I've read so far.

He's a Meyer guy.  He's not a huge fan of Day and thinks Josh Gattis is one of the biggest idiots on the planet.

He's also a complete asshole as a human.  But complete assholes are sometimes your best source of information.

No idea and not to thread…

No idea and not to thread-jack but just listened to Zach Smith's podcast (yes I know, I know) on why he thinks this happened.   First and foremost he could not have been more complimentary about Alford and thinks this is a huge loss to the OSU program.  Secondly he thinks he left due to the disfunction between the offensive coaches at OSU and bringing in Kelly is only going to make things worse.  He said it wasnt a coincidence that Alford left the day after his first practice with the Kelly/Day combo.

I know the guy is an absolute tool but I sure hope he's right on this one.

Hey there is a silver lining…

Hey there is a silver lining to this season.  If you bet heavily against Michigan you will make a ton of money because they're not only terrible, they're more terrible than the Vegas oddsmakers realize.

I'm pounding the living shit out of PSU -4.

Edit: As I suspected the line has moved.  It's now PSU -6.5 and a $100 bet on PSU only pays $83 ($183 net) which means virtually all the dollars are landing on PSU covering.

I still bet PSU -6.5

You know how I know this is…

You know how I know this is an excellent hire and that the Buckeyes are legitimately surprised and upset over him leaving?   They arent bashing him publicly and talking shit about how glad they are to see him go.

Being a Browns twitter guy most of the locals I follow for Browns news also cover OSU.  To a man they are saying this a loss for OSU and a huge win for Michigan.

Two things:

1. How …

Two things:

1. How "convenient" that Pete was the reporter who broke this story.  I mean if I didnt know better I'd swear that this person from the national media has an inside source in the OSU program.

2. How much do you think it absolutely KILLED him to have to report it?

He wasnt joking.

He wasnt joking.

Was thinking same thing Don…

Was thinking same thing Don.  The silence regarding his departure has been deafening.

First it was "personal reason" implying he was dealing with some sort of health issue

Then it transitioned to him being pissed off he wasn't promoted to another role once Harbaugh left

Then it moved to Hart having conflicts with Harbaugh (which has nothing to do with his relationship/job status with Moore)

And now it's basically "he was fired'.

There is DEFINITELY more to this story than we know right now.

Oh I get how multi-layered…

Oh I get how multi-layered organizational authority functions and that Warde has to answer/report to others.  My point is the HC of the basketball team reports directly to the AD so the impetus for termination HAS to start there.  Now, if Warde said "I think we need to make a change" and the team he reports to pushed back, I get why he'd not make a move.

But saying he wont fight to keep him definitely implies that Warde is waiting for HIS bosses to make a decision and that's terrible IMO.  It's Warde's primary responsibility to either make the recommendation for termination or make the case for him staying.  Waiting for others to make that call is basically him not doing his job.

I saw that last night and…

I saw that last night and one of the questions someone asked was basically “what does that mean?”

Bacon responded “it means Warde won’t fight to keep him”

I thought then and I think now…..JUWAN REPORTS TO WARDE, WHO IN THE HELL WOULD WARDE NEED TO FIGHT?”

I think it's interesting…

I think it's interesting that Congress invites Saban, a name every casual fan knows as a great coach and every hardcore fan knows as an unrepented bagman devotee instead of someone like our old basketball HC Beilein,  who hardly any casual fan would know but every hardcore fan recognizes as being the patron saint of rule following.  If they were serious about what college sports has turned into they should've invited somebody trying to follow the rules, not somebody mad that it's now ok for everyone to break them thereby eliminating his competitive advantadge in gathering talent.

Like almost everything done in Congress these days this was done for show, not go.

LOL.  I literally just…

LOL.  I literally just grabbed a soup/salad combo from the Zoup location next door to Slyman's in Independence.

So yes, I know it well.

Begone angry bitter minion.

Can somebody get me some Ben Gay?  My shoulder is sore from patting myself on the back after reading this as it BASICALLY CONFIRMS MY POST YESTERDAY on where JJ would land.

You're welcome minions.  To think I opine all this brilliance for free.......

Now, one of you go make me a sandwich.

Typical.

Here we are …

Typical.

Here we are (prematurely) celebrating some fantastic news and without fail, some random jerkface poster has throw cold water on the party by injecting stupid facts.  And, also without fail, those stupid facts are unpleasant but factually accurate.

Thanks a lot Obama.

Am I being a bad fan/alum…

Am I being a bad fan/alum that I kinda hope what you just posted is true and DOES come out?

Might make us look bad for a bit but it would definitely force our useless tub of goo AD to actually have do....oh I dont know.....DO FUCKING SOMETHING for once?

It's moved from ridiculous…

It's moved from ridiculous to funny to pathetic IMO.  They are the sports equivalent of doomsday preppers who absolutely KNOW beyond a shadow of doubt that the world will end any day now so they have to be ready.  And when it doesnt they just keep moving the date of the rapture/armaggedon/what-have-you back but keep claiming it's coming any day now.

They never, ever take a step back and rethink their convictions.  So my guess is while their numbers may dwindle there will always be a few hold outs convinced that "any day now" something really bad is going to happen to Michigan.

"It's coming.  I'm telling you, any day now the hammer is going to drop and that will be that."

Will Levis.   The same Will…

Will Levis.   The same Will Levis who completed 58.4% of passes which ranked him 52 out of 58 NFL QBs last year?   That Will Levis?

There isnt a single person in the NFL OR Tennessee that thinks he's the long-term answer at QB there.  Now, they may be in tank mode so he fits the bill just fine for that.

I dont know where he'll end…

I dont know where he'll end up but I do predict it will be one hell of a lot higher than most are predicting right now.   If the first three go Williams, Maye & Daniels let's take a look at the rest of the teams drafting 4-13 and see how many need a long-term answer at QB

4) Arizona Cardinals - no (open to trade pick)
5) Los Angeles Chargers - no (want to trade pick)
6) New York Giants - need QB
7) Tennessee Titans - need QB
8) Atlanta Falcons - no (open to trade pick)
9) Chicago Bears - no (open to trade pick)
10) New York Jets - probably need developmental QB
11) Minnesota Vikings - need QB
12) Denver Broncos - need QB
13) Las Vegas Raiders - need QB

You've got five who definitely need a QB and let's say Fields goes to one of them (maybe).  Cousins has signed with the Falcons and Baker is staying in Tampa Bay. That leaves four fighting for either McCarthy or Penix (Nix is only held in high regard by the media) so my guess is somebody is going to make a deal with the Chargers and move into the five slot for him or Penix.

My guess is it will be the Raiders because even though the Broncos want JJ badly they're in full tank mode right now and will be shooting for the #1 pick in next year's draft.  If not the Raiders then either the Giants or the Titans will take him.

FYI might want to take a…

FYI might want to take a peek at the Joel Klatt thread.  MK is using it as a chance to spread his faith to the great unwashed.

If there's a bigger media…

If there's a bigger media supporter of Michigan football than Joel I've never seen them.

He's definitely the anti-Thamel.

So true.  Unless you're…

So true.  Unless you're getting people who are taking a big step up in their career resume by working in a P5 program for the first time.

Which makes Harbaugh's assistant upgrade in 2021 even more remarkable.  The guys he got that year had to know that he was on relatively thin ice and yet he assembled a murders row of assistant coaches.

I think that's great.  Our…

I think that's great.  Our ex-HC wasnt afraid to make his personal convictions known publicly and neither should Sherrone.  Different sides of the isle, so to speak, but that's fine.

When you consider just how few people outside of our elected officials get to see that live it really is an amazing honor.

It took me a minute to…

It took me a minute to figure out why you made the Keith Jackson reference but I got it (well played BTW).

You create a post calling out a site that does a nice job of explaining the modern defense and why it works.  You include a link to the site in your post (yes you can embed YouTube videos but most people struggle with it because it's not very intuitive).

First comment is from someone saying yes, modern defenses are interesting and suggests people who want to learn more should look at videos from the very site you referenced at being interesting and informative.

So anyways there's this…

So anyways there's this thing I thought.  And I thought it for a while now, no, maybe i didn't.  It seemed like a while but really it was like WOW, there and gone.  So while this, you know, stuff going on with football, teams and whatnot.  Right?

Clearly this needed a post I thought.  So when I came back there (or was it here), anyways, I said "everyone needs to see this" and I did.

Discuss.

Did I mention this is all i do?

I've been having the same…

I've been having the same problem, freezing, for the past two days.  I run Chrome with ad blocker and there are times I have to close out the entire tab (working on desktop) and reload it to get the site to open back up.

Something has changed over the past 48 hours.  Maybe just the lunatics like me who spend WAY too much time here are feeling it but something is making it freeze up

Sounds like Saban left…

Sounds like Saban left college football for basically the same reasons John Beilein left college basketball.

"How much am I going to play and how much are you going to pay me".  I get why everyone does this (hell, I would definitely do this as well) but damn that must be exhausting for a HC to deal with.

Very, very difficult it…

Very, very difficult it would seem.

For me anyways.

You arent far off on that…

You arent far off on that one.  I have no memory watching Cazzie or Buntin play but I do remember Rudy.  Doesnt change the fact though that he was one of our greatest basketball players ever though.

Recency bias is tough.  Charles Woodson left here in 97 meaning anybody on the board younger than about 30-35 probably has no memory of actually seeing him play, they've only seen highlights.  Even worse with arguably one of our two best basketball players ever in Glenn Rice.  Anybody under 45-50 cant say they remember watching him live.

That's what makes these fun though.  People remember what they saw and grade accordingly

PETTWAY!!!!!!!!

One of my…

PETTWAY!!!!!!!!

One of my personal favorites too.  Urban legend has it he was able to jump high enough to grab a quarter off the top of the backboard.  I dont know if that's true or not but damn could that man sky.

Thanks for reminding me of him.

For those here that are…

For those here that are saying no simply because they dont think he'd want to come back, let me make the pitch to him for his return.

MgrowOld: "Coach B, when you left us for the Cavs you stated you were doing so because you wanted to test yourself, to see if you were able to overcome the challenge of coaching in the NBA right?  Well look at the turd of a program we have now.  Bringing this corpse of a basketball program back to life will be exponentially more challenging than coaching a bunch of slugs in the NBA."

Coach Beilein: "Challenge accepted, when do I start?"

I figured as much.  Yet…

I figured as much.  Yet another "soft on crime" liberal lawyer.

I dont disagree with your…

I dont disagree with your take on Fisher which is why he wasnt on my coaches list.

FWIW I think Frieder doesnt get nearly enough respect for what he accomplished here, largely because of three things:

1. The way he left and the timing of his departure

2. His lack of success in the tournament

3. His best teams liked cocaine more than they liked winning basketball games

If coke wasnt a "thing" back in the 80's I seriously wonder how his 85-89 teams would've fared come tournament time.

No offense to the OP but I'm…

No offense to the OP but I'm ever King for the day my first order of business is to ban the term "NATTY" and make the use of it in any form punishable by having the users hand & or tongue cut off for a first offense, death penalty for repeat offenders.

For some this might seem harsh but this just needs to happen.

Good answer.  Or, on the…

Good answer.  Or, on the other hand: Rice, Robinson, Vaught, Mills, Higgins.

Definitely the position I…

Definitely the position I struggled with the most.  Burke is a much better shooter, Grant is a much, much better defender.  Both could get to the rim but Grant was better, IMO, in the open floor when we want to run.

Like choosing between Mary Ann or Ginger & Bailey or Jennifer.  There are no wrong answers here.

I didnt forget how good he…

I didnt forget how good he was, hell, he was the center on my own personal all-time favorite Michigan team (86).  Leaving him off the roster along with Juwan was very, very difficult but I felt with Webber & Hubbard we were good at the five and I needed to make room for Jalen & Nik.

If you move Jalen up, who do…

If you move Jalen up, who do you move down?  It's gotta be either Rice or Russell because I dont think you want to put him at the point in that lineup do you?

PG gotta be either Grant or Burke IMO and I'll tell you this was one of my hardest positions to settle on a starter.  I could make a case for Quicksilver lighting (Green) but his shooting wasnt nearly as good as Burke and his defense wasnt even close to the General's.

The fact that they haven’t…

The fact that they haven’t Eric is a pretty clear indication, to me anyways, that Sanderson’s version of the events was both complete AND accurate.

Unfortunately.
