cornstarch does well in cool water.

What is this thing, gravy from a jar?

Pasty gravy means you aren't cooking the flour and fat long enough and hot enough.  Lumpy gravy probably means you added your flour to the water and juices before thoroughly combining it with the fat. Patience will be rewarded, and you might try using a sieve.  Lastly, and what I do often, is use cornstarch.  You don't have to mix it with fat (use cool water), you don't get the pasty taste, and because it is easier to work with you don't usually get lumps.  Cornstarch is excellent when you want a glossy thinner type of sauce or gravy.

I'm not an excellent cook, I'm just a guy.

When do you suppose the chorus of, "Wait until next year" becomes this year?

Guilt by association.  You'd think that an intelligent and enlightened community of scholars would be above that, but you'd be wrong.

Brady and Pats are doing well and I'm wearing my Michigan gear.  Would that it had worked a few weeks ago.

I dunno, Chick, what do you suppose the problem is?

Jourdan Lewis, told by Dallas they didn't need corners under 6 foot tall this year, set out to make his presence known regardless.  He's now their featured return man, runs the occasional offensive play... and, oh yes, he finds himself playing CB every now and again.

I think  Rudock did wonders for Rudock.

01/11/2019 - 10:18am Mattison was demoted and…

Mattison was demoted and took a pay cut when Harbaugh showed up.  The next year when Michigan needed a DC, Mattison was again given the cold shoulder.  Harbaugh and Michigan made their business decisions with regard to Mattison, Mattison made his business decision with regard to Mattison.

01/11/2019 - 10:05am Mattison doesn't need that…

Mattison doesn't need that money?  Has Brian taken a vow of poverty we don't know about?

They are already encouraged to lower the shoulder, and with it their helmet, to gain extra yards.  So yeah, no doubt that ball carriers in general are fully aware that their attempt to gain extra yards by lowering their head may well result in a defensive player being ejected.

01/09/2019 - 4:23pm Better would be to take a…

Better would be to take a cue from hockey, make the penalty a timed penalty.  Currently a player could be charged with targeting on the opening kickoff and thus would miss 60 minutes of playing time.  Then make that the penalty 60 game minutes, to be carried over from one half to another, from one game to another.

01/09/2019 - 4:21pm Defensive players victimized…

Defensive players victimized by targeting still need not apply.  Almost as bad is that an offensive player can initiate contact with the head and the defensive player can be, and will be, charged with targeting.

01/09/2019 - 11:57am If we're going by stars,…

If we're going by stars, then I think Michigan over the previous three or four recruiting years (2019 excluded) has had a significant advantage over Clemson.  Now it could be that Swinney and his staff better identify needs and so can better target future prospects not to mention are better at seeing past the stars to the actual player.  But, and this is the big one, maybe Swinney and Saben, and Meyer for that matter, are just better at creating an environment for success, both at the individual and collective levels.

I think that says more about our "elite" defense than it does about the OSU offense.

Okay, that was ugly.  Cowboys Hurns is laying face down on the field with the toes of his left foot pointing up.

The very first play of the Peach Bowl was a zone read option with the QB pulling.  No amount of high flying Spread to Shred OC will matter a hill of beans so long as the real OC is wearing Khaki pants on the sideline.

01/05/2019 - 6:35pm Specifically about Ben Mason…

Specifically about Ben Mason, he's a big guy, a Running Back wrapped up in a Full Back.  The next time I see him try to dive over the line instead of breaking through the line will be too soon.  Same same with his new found penchant for bouncing to the outside for a two yard loss.

01/05/2019 - 1:06pm While that is true, Henne…

While that is true, Henne didn't play for Lloyd Carr from 1995 through the 2007 season.  Moreover, Henne was still healthy in 2007 when Michigan failed to put up more than seven points on Oregon, at home.

01/05/2019 - 1:00pm December of 2007 Lloyd Carr…

December of 2007 Lloyd Carr and his coaches installed a completely new and different offense which resulted in the defeat of the Urban Meyer coached Florida Gators in the 2008 Capital One Bowl.

01/05/2019 - 12:13pm And when Harbaugh got his…

And when Harbaugh got his version of Kaepernick at Michigan he remained steadfast with ball control.  You're right, Harbaugh is not Lloyd Carr.  We could make comparisons without excuses if you would like.  To keep it fair and relative we could limit the discussion to the first four years of their respective Head Coaching tenures at Michigan.

01/05/2019 - 11:33am It's one thing for Steve…

It's one thing for Steve Deace, former Harbaugh knob slobber, to talk of the Harbaugh era being in jeopardy pointing out such matters as Michigan having its worst loss ever to OSU this past season.  Michigan having its worst loss ever to PSU the year before.  That during the Peach Bowl Michigan spent 4 play clock minutes at goal to go only to kick a FG.  I could go on...but it is an entirely different thing for the QB to essentially call out his coach.

I think two things will happen.  Shea Patterson will get a whole milk, don't eat chicken, bounce balls against the garage wall pep talk, and nothing will substantially change.  I could be wrong, after 13 seasons even Lloyd Carr finally managed to change, for his final game, beating Urban Meyer and his Florida Gators in an offensive shootout.

01/01/2019 - 4:47pm Players wouldn't be sitting…

Players wouldn't be sitting or leaving early if they thought the NFL would hold it against them.  Demonstrably that is not the case.  Draft Day was a movie, not NFL reality.

Time to again challenge in court the age discrimination the NFL practices.

The Michigan Offensive line didn't lose the 2018 OSU game.

01/01/2019 - 2:01pm I don't think there is…

I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with the FB and TE being emphasized, I do think you are right that offense by committee is the fundamental problem.  I could be wrong, but I don't recall Saban, Swinney, or Riley looking at play sheets discussing what play the offense would run while the play clock was ticking (I don't include Kelly because NDs offense isn't a benchmark I'd like Michigan to regress to).

01/01/2019 - 1:55pm Why does it have to be an…

Why does it have to be an either or proposition?  In other words, why not play defense, why be like Oklahoma?  Michigan scored 39 points against OSU, that should have been enough to win the game, it certainly was enough for Purdue.  In fact if four other OSU opponents had scored 39 points OSU loses five B1G games.  What lost the OSU game was not a hobbled offense, it was an exploited defense that lost the game.  Apparently Brown has to be shown that he has a huge hole in his defense that can be and is exploited by better teams.

Having said that, I too am beyond tired of watching an offense that can't get out of its own way.  Tired of waiting until the 4th Q to seal the deal against inferior opponents. Tired of spotting the opposition 14 or more points to start the game.  Mostly, I'm tired of watching Michigan get run out of the stadium in big games.  Big games they know were big before the season started, big games in which they have weeks to prepare.

Now that is self-loathing.  You would rather things get worse to prove you were right than to have things get better to prove you were right.

12/31/2018 - 11:01am He said his team was…

He said his team was prepared but that they were beat by a better team.  So what was there to be pissed about?

The truth is the nutritionists have banned whole milk from the training table and have curtailed most of the red meat.  And that's why he's pissed.  Oh, and he just found out that Docker's inspector #8 took a leave of absence which explains why his Khaki pants just don't feel right.

12/31/2018 - 10:20am Q:  Coach, can you…

Q:  Coach, can you understand that the fans are angry with many of them having a healthy dose of apathy?

JIM HARBAUGH:  I can respect that.

12/30/2018 - 10:21pm You're right.  And Harbaugh…

You're right.  And Harbaugh's win over MSU in 2016 doesn't count for the same reason.  Right?

12/30/2018 - 10:07pm Mark Dantonio?  Brian Kelly?…

Mark Dantonio?  Brian Kelly?  Look if you don't want to compare yourself to the best, don't be surprised when you aren't.

Nick Saban was barely better at LSU?  By barely you mean during his first four years at LSU he lead his team to two conference championships and a national championship.

At Alabama, Saban's worst season was his first, not his third season.  In his second season in Tuscaloosa Saban guided his team to a 12-0 regular season record with wins over three top 10 teams and a division championship.  In his third season Saban's Crimson Tide won the SEC championship and capped their undefeated season with a national championship win over Texas.  Here's something you can hang your hat on.  In Saban's fourth season at 'Bama they achieved a 10-3 record with a win over Michigan State and a loss to their biggest rival, Auburn.  Kind of just like Harbaugh.

Shall we talk about Dabo Swinney?  Set aside his interim 2008 year because he wasn't named interim HC until the 7th game of the season.  So his HC record really should start with year one being 2009, agreed?  In his first four seasons he managed to win his division, conference championship, and capping an 11-2 season with a win over #8 LSU.  Oh yes, almost forgot.  One of his wins includes a victory over OSU.

Jim Harbaugh is coming in a distant second to what should be his benchmark standards, and barely holding his own with mediocrity.

I suppose you have to ignore those years, especially the Hoke years.  Wouldn't want an 11 win season with a victory over OSU to spoil the meme.
