is that I hope this catches fire and leads to an expanded playoff.  We need at least 8 teams, and 5 spots should be reserved for the champs of the power 5 conferences.  Two SEC teams in the title game is a joke.

So, two SEC teams in the championship is a joke despite the fact that those teams just beat the ACC and Big 12 champs.  If we had an 8 team playoff and two teams from the same conference made it to the final, would that also be a joke?  If so, then where do the teams for the playoffs come from?  7 conference champs and either an 8th conference champ or an independent?

Yeah his argument makes no sense. I’m all for an 8 team playoff, but in that case we may end up with 3 SEC teams one day. And if they win out, guess what? They’ll play each other in the title game.

I can’t say I’m happy Bama and Georgia are playing for the NC, but I’m not sure anyone else has an argument as a better team. It would have been fun to see UCF in the playoff, but the Tide would be huge favorites if they played.

I was hoping Oklahoma would win the Rose, mainly because I think it would make for a more exciting game. Bama-Georgia just feels like it will be 14-10 or something boring like that.

I have no problem with UCF claiming a title, especially as they did better against Auburn than Alabama and Georgia (both games Auburn won were @ Auburn) - but it is easier to go undefeated playing a weaker schedule and to suffer less injuries when you get to put in back ups so early most weeks.

Good for UCF. They are most likely not the strongest team in the field, but they have just as much claim to this year's championship as some of the dubious claims of Bama's in the past, if not more so. I just hope that at least one AP writer will put them as number one, since I am certain none of the coaches will.

I love this. They will finish the season as the only undefeated team, and realistically they will never be able to win a CFP title under the current system. Their players and fans should celebrate it.

The system is set up to create an artificial 'ceiling' for programs like UCF, because they would likely need two wins over upper-tier P5 teams in the non-conference to be anywhere close to the top 4, and no upper-tier P5 team in their right mind will be scheduling them going forward. We saw the exact same thing happen with Boise a few years back, and they have certainly lost something from their peak.

Good on several fronts 1. They went undefeated so why the hell not? 2. I like the idea that there will always be the smallest of an * on Alabama’s inevitable championship. Love that UCF fans will annoy them forever by claiming a share. 3. This should only help accelerate the move to an 8 team playoff.

If they want to be in the conversation they should join a real conference.  I think its just a matter of time before the field gets expanded to 8, and I hope at that point all P5 conference winners get an automatic bid.  Then 3 at large bids to any random team with some type of resume.  But beating Memphis twice, who lost to Iowa State in a bowl game isn't much of a resume.

...have some sort of serious challenge in the B10West. What Frost did while being the head coach of 2 different schools in bowl prep is impressive.

Obviously, he'll redline the game in AA next year as his chance to make an early statement.

Schools used to claim championships all the time, Michigan included.  Why not claim it?  The CFP is just as BS as any other system has been. Thankfully, this year was the first time we saw the Group of Five NY6 contender beat someone that actually mattered and had previously beat both of the teams in the championship.

The game vs Auburn wasn't for the national title or any claim to it. It was an exhibition game.

UCF strikes me as one of those schools with oversized ambition. Like SMU in the early 80s or Baylor in the last years. That always ends well.

by the Dan LeBatard Show to crown UCF as the true national champions. The CFP is an ESPN invention and one of it's most-listened to radio shows is ready to give UCF it's own trophy as the Regular Season National Champions and attend the parade in Orlando. I'm all for UCF claiming this, it's fun, it's also crazy to see their 0-12 two years ago, Michigan beat the brakes off of them last year at home, and now 13-0 and champions with a new coach coming in. Interested to see how Heupel builds off what Frost leaves behind.

He's a great freaking head coach.

Dude took a completely lifeless program which was ZERO AND TWELVE in 2015 and went 13-0 TWO years later, with probably a lot of the same guys from that 0-12 squad.

That might be the single greatest turnaround that you'll ever see.

What more do you ask of this team? They run the table. Then all the pundits, which they do every year, say "Well, prove it, beat one of the big boys."

And then they go out and do it.

I'm not sure how much more evidence you need to expand this thing.

Good.  If Alabama can claim championships in seasons where they lost their final game, then UCF can certainly claim being a national champion when they beat everyone put in front of them.

Hell, they even have a transitive win over the CFP champion already.

at the very least, UCF is the poster-child for expanding the playoffs teams.  Underdogs deserve a shot and it is what makes college sports so much fun.  The current CFP is boring.  I will not be staying up late to watch Alabama vs. Georgia, will just read about it the day after.  At least the Super Bowl has great commercials and starts at 6pm.  The NCAA needs to adapt.

I don’t necessarily think think the playoff needs to be expanded, at least based on this year. Honestly, Bama’s CFP win over Clemson notwithstanding, there were really only three teams that deserved to make the playoffs, and it felt like Bama made it based on reputation and default (the committee had to pick somebody) more than anything else. Wins over LSU, Miss. St. and really no one else don’t do much for me, and I’d have been just fine with putting UCF in the fourth spot, even if the justification was that Bama didn’t deserve a spot more so than that UCF did. Honestly, the committee missed an opportunity by not including UCF. With no one really deserving the fourth spot, it was the perfect time to throw a Group of 5 team a bone that could be used to deflect criticism in later years with more Power 5 contenders.
