01/17/2019 - 9:46pm Is Dominick's open? One year…

Is Dominick's open? One year in law school I lived on the block, and as I recall it was open on some (but not all) of the cold days between October and April.

01/17/2019 - 8:52pm Be fair. Life as a…

Be fair. Life as a television personality on Fox has to be a thousand time less stressful than trying to keep Zach Smith out of jail for a living.

01/17/2019 - 8:06pm Shit is real. The lack of…

Shit is real. The lack of marketable east coast teams more generally is the problem. Only purists like the Bucks. The Celtics are actually even better but more of an ensemble.

Beyond 'Bron there is not the Magic-Larry-MJ-Kobe type persona. Antetokounmpo has the skills but not the personality, and the same is true with Harden. We love Steph Curry on the west coast but he is too low key/aloof  to be the face of the NBA.

01/17/2019 - 1:00pm My first car was an '85…

My first car was an '85 Subaru sedan, AWD. It was a great car, especially in the snow! I could make it into basketball practice on days that you needed a truck with 4WD. My sister nearly totaled it, and it kept going for years after that, 160K miles. The soundsytem and tape deck were advanced beyond what US cars had going at the time, is the thing I remember most fondly.

01/17/2019 - 12:11am It's pretty cowardly for him…

It's pretty cowardly for him to use politics as a cover for his own bad conduct. Needless provocation of victims, victim blaming, and the other ugly things he said undid a lot of hard work that Michigan State had done (and that he attempts to take credit for in his letter). Leaders take responsibility for their actions. Engler fucked up, and on the way out took credit for the good that others did while trying to blame "politicians" for the repercussions of his own acts.

A. Great hire in hockey. Has restored I think balance to the AD when compared to the grandiose and crass measures that Dave Brandon took. The credit for his tenure, however, needs to go to the Trustees and the President, who took bold and swift action in 2014 when like people were getting traffic tickets and could choose Michigan tickets in lieu of paying a fine.

His letter hints at that. He was asked to resign, so the people of Michigan will not get the satisfaction.

This is the type of shit my high school football coach would pull, but he'd at least slip us some cash.

01/16/2019 - 4:20pm I appreciate where you are…

I appreciate where you are coming from, but Mattison is the most accomplished coach of those four. Whether he will be remembered fondly by Michigan fans is another matter altogether.

Sucks. Hope he finishes up school at FGCU. Ft. Myers and the gulfside of Florida generally are underrated.

I think it's pretty cool for Leach to engage with the academy and students. That is a throwback (Woody Hayes taught classes in the off-season). I am pretty sure I would disagree with Leach's opinions on anything outside of football, but that is part of what makes this a good idea.

01/15/2019 - 1:19pm A nice recognition, but…

A nice recognition, but nothing is won in January. Crucible road test coming this weekend. Duke was down two of their best three players for most of that 'Cuse game.

01/11/2019 - 9:29pm Warriors.

Warriors.

01/11/2019 - 2:17pm Enos isn't terrible. Have…

Enos isn't terrible. Have residual affection for him because he coached the Chips to some not horrible years. Even once not losing a bowl game, and coaching one of the wildest almost wins in the history of bowls ('14 Bahamas Bowl).

But the U has really downgraded.

01/11/2019 - 1:00pm Hate to say it, but that's…

Hate to say it, but that's about right. There's Duke, first, and maybe six or seven teams that appear roughly on par after them. It's not hard to see how that happened, as Duke had three of the top five recruits of '18 plus Tre Jones.

01/11/2019 - 12:53pm Good luck! He looks like a…

Good luck! He looks like a chode in a beard, but so do most non-hipsters.

Idea being Michigan can give him a raise even if it is a demotion in title? He did never overlapped with Brown.

That's good, I guess? Not shaking up the offensive staff would have been unacceptable.

Debord

Neither is clearly better than the other

GERG is in another category. Michigan scored points this year (e.g., Penn State, Wisconsin, and 39 against Ohio State is pretty good).

01/09/2019 - 2:04pm Another way of looking at…

Another way of looking at the Army game. They played Oklahoma last year, Ohio State in 2017, Notre Dame in 2016, Penn State in 2015. It is obvious they try to schedule a game with one traditional power each year. It is an honor that such a tradition rich program run by the United States, also one of the best public schools in the United States, would schedule Michigan. Rise to this challenge.

This is an instructive contrast to how Dave Brandon responded to fan emails. Classy. GO BLUE!

01/08/2019 - 4:01pm I am sure he has a good…

I am sure he has a good agent. Probably Mahomes' agent. NFL hiring is far more susceptible to fads, nepotism, hype, and the bias of personal relationships than college football.

01/08/2019 - 2:18pm Michigan and Army have…

Michigan and Army have history. They played some bruiser games in the 1950's. To me it makes more sense to schedule them now that they're good again, not less.

The PAC12 is now officially as unwatchable as Walton is unlistenable.

01/04/2019 - 12:54pm Funny I was just thinking…

Funny I was just thinking before the game that Chambers has to be on thin ice. Penn State has had three coaches since 1995. His two predecessors each got eight years, and had at least one NCAA appearance. Chambers has none, and this is his eighth year. He may not last the season.

The line between failing and succeeding in college basketball is thin. They played like a top 30 team, at least, in March of 2018 winning seven of eight (including two in the Big Ten tournament, then running the table in the NIT). They could/should have won their first two Big Ten games this year.

01/04/2019 - 12:20pm To think that this team lost…

To think that this team lost its top two scorers, and Duncan Robinson, and could be improved is remarkable.

True, they regressed this year. They'll fall further without McSorley

Penn State regresses to the mean in '19.

01/02/2019 - 1:54pm Texas will make CFP. Not…

Texas will make CFP. Not really a sleeper though. USC is going to win eight or nine games, but can never be a sleeper.

Good game. One of the best of the season (Birmingham Bowl the only other one that was remotely entertaining). Vandy should have stayed with the run on their last possession.

12/27/2018 - 6:47pm Bowl season has been a…

Bowl season has been a series of clunkers. This is no different. Half of Miami's offense came on one play. Still, Big Ten is showing last season's bowl record was no fluke.

The Cherry Bowl. Ah, memories. I watched it with my dad from a hospital room in Big Rapids, Michigan, when I was very little and had mono. Sparty got manhandled by Army.

Ha, so California's is "Is Starbucks open on Christmas." I just had a twenty minute discussion with my wife about whether In and Out Burger would be open on XMAS, as we are driving to Southern California after opening presents.

Speaking for myself, I object to the mass killing of women. That's a stumble, I'd say. Jesus was friends with a hooker. He wouldn't like that shit, either, I don't think.

12/14/2018 - 3:18pm He was decent at ESPN before…

He was decent at ESPN before he started killing hookers, and the shit went down with his son. I know it's Texas, but I don't think candidates who have killed multiple hookers should be able to run for national office.

Yeah, and the concourse smelled like piss. Beer piss. Comiskey did too.
