Not OT: St. Mary’s G Aidan Mahaney Enters Portal
St. Mary’s Sophomore G Aidan Mahaney entered the portal tonight and there’s already buzz that Michigan is going to be a player in his recruitment.
First team All-WCC in both of his years for the Gaels. 13.9 PPG, 2.6 APG and 2.6 RPG this year. Shooting efficiency did dip a bit from his freshman season.
Combine him with Johnell Davis and Tre Donaldson and you’ve got a nice backcourt in year one for Dusty.

Love Ghosts, hilarious show.
Hope Aidan can get past admissions and their moat.
The original British show is much better. Experience those episodes and you’ll see why.
I've watched the original, and it really isn't.
Agreed Sam, the American version is way better.
I've watched the British one and it's funny but the husband is wasaaaayyy more annoying.

Apparently Justin Joyner (the new assistant coach Dusty May hired from St. Mary’s) recruited Mahaney and has known him since he was in middle school. That relationship certainly can’t hurt. Here’s hoping Mahaney follows him here!
Good luck with admissions kid.
I was excited until I saw he was a sophmore. This one probably isn't happening.
I think freshman have no problem to get in and juniors have almost no chance, but in the case of sophomores, I think then their academics come into play for Michigan. So, it will largely depend on whether he has been a decent student at St Mary's.
He will be admitted. Then it's a question if he wants to retake Freshman English and if he needs to stay an extra semester after being out of eligibility/scholarship to graduate. He will probably have 54/60 credits accepted. Pretty much every transfer has to retake Freshman English.
"Pretty much every transfer has to retake Freshman English."
This has not been true for several years.

There's a reason for it, though. As a former English professor, I can tell you: So many kids arrive at college unable to write. It's worse now, after Covid. To graduate a kid from the U of M who couldn't. . . unthinkable. You gotta have some standards.
I am cool with it.

Freshman English did not teach me how to write. Working as a litigator under a former 6th Circuit clerk did.

I'm not sure I'd call such boilerplate legalese writing, but okay. :) I think that my point stands.
It's standard for a University to cover the cost of tuition for degree completion after your eligibility is up.
I didn't, and I transferred from WCC ten years ago.
Freshmen and Sophomores are fine in terms of transferring. As long as they don't exceed 60 credits from the original school, they should be able to transfer.

60 credit transfer applies, true soph, will be admitted. I swear Seth should do a neck sharpie on transfer credits, haven’t we been clear on this? Stated multiple times by Brian and co.

It has been gone over many, many times.
But people want to get their tired jokes and concern in.
39% FG% with 35.5% from 3? He needs to get those numbers up, but he can be our next Duncan Robinson.
I thought we were pretty convinced that Johnell Davis wasn't coming to Ann Arbor. Did that change recently?
That was my take too. Chance he comes but probably not.
Johnell Davis is still a Michigan lean if he decides not to go pro. Going pro is his #1 option if he can get there. Otherwise, Michigan leads.
Come on down!

Duke graduate Jeremy Roach just entered portal (43% shooter behind arc)...but imagine he will get a lot NIL offers.

He is a good PG but he's more of a final piece than a featured piece. Also, a lot of blue blood programs are after him so I don't see Michigan in this one.

It's pretty clear that we need an MGo Post about the transfer eligibility. Most do not understand how it works. Grad transfers are auto transfers for Michigan. Freshmen and Sophomores are mostly fine, especially freshmen. Sophomores are fine as long as they don't exceed 60 credits, and probably, they will have to take a couple of classes in the summer.

It’s happening?https://www.maizenbrew.com/2024/4/17/24133451/michigan-wolverines-st-marys-gaels-transfer-guard-aidan-mahaney-college-basketball
Some mixed emotions here for me. I took the opposite route (Ann Arbor to Moraga). It has been a joy watching Aidan play in our little bandbox in the grass hills. But this is an opportunity for him and for Michigan.
