The Real 'Wife Day' Thread

Submitted by xtramelanin on October 25th, 2018 at 3:08 PM

Mates,

It is obvious we need a 'Wife Day' thread since everybody wants to talk about it.  There was one on Monday, but because everybody was uber-amped after stomping Sparty, that thread lasted about 30 seconds on the board and was in the rear view mirror.   There was a misfire today in that the 'best Bye Week' strategy was interpreted as a clever lead in for that topic - but not so, that was actually a football topic so those are wasted too.

I have hopefully linked up the first and all-time greatest 'Wife Day' thread by (former?) mgoblogger Six Zero

here:https://mgoblog.com/diaries/preview-wifeday-2010

It is required annual reading.

And now the single question is this:  What are you doing for Wife Day?

I'm married and this "wife day" doesn't exist for me. I dunno....I actually like watching other football games besides Michigan.

Starting early, taking Friday off work and taking her to a place she loves for lunch plus her favorite wine-tasting spot (in combination with our anniversary)

I am surprising my wife with flights for us to visit her family in Dallas in late December, then heading to LA on Dec. 31st to see her best friend.

It is purely a coincidence that the Cotton Bowl and Rose Bowl will take places in those locations during those time frames.

Since I cannot figure out how to find my old mgoboard posts (help please?) I will say it again here.

I told my wife about Wife Day three years ago. Big mistake. She invited her mother and sister over for the weekend.

Her family is big Michigan State fans. I met my wife about 9 years ago. Perfect timing to start being around State fans. Her mom is practically in love with Kirk Cousins. Oh and just for good measure their second favorite team is Notre Dame. Her grandfather sent me a Michigan fail collage with a 2 out of 10 wins ain't bad! message, calling Harbaugh a million dollar con man, a cartoon comparing him to a horse's ass, and more unflattering images. When Michigan fumbled and MSU scored the TD in the game, sister in law texted me two laughing face emojis (she received a "suck it" reply after the game).

Wife, sister in law, and mother in law are going to go out for a girly day getting manicure/pedicure, going out to eat and drink margaritas, and going to see a chick flick. I get to go work in the early morning and then come home and have to watch my 2 year old all day (which I already do 5 days a week in the daytime). I will be expected to clean up the house and vacuum before they arrive and be a host/servant while they are here. I also have to do all the yard work that I would normally be doing....

...and I can at least do it with a smile on my face because Michigan beat Michigan State.

I'll be chaperoning the local high school band at their field performance competition thing. That should keep the wife and I busy for about 15 hours. Fun times.

Watching football with my wife. In my opinion the best wife day is the one that doesn’t need to exist because your wife is a bigger college football fan than you.

Ideally, I'd be suing the miserable bitch in court since she currently owes me over $27,000 in past due child support and medical expenses, plus another $4,000+ in legal fees, but since she got her lawyer to file a continuance on her latest hearing I have to wait until January until anything can happen, I'll just to ignore her existence and hope she either overdoses again or rolls another car off the interstate (again) and this time doesn't walk away from the said event.

But I'm not bitter.

While i am not married yet my girlfriend sure knew when the bye week was. I'll be heading up to Ludington to walk around the state park and grab bite & beer. Sunday i get to carve pumpkins. I need to enjoy it while i can because it sounds like way more responsibility is coming my way on this day in the future.

"former mgoblogger Six Zero."

There's a sad phrase.

Want to feel dated? Check out Six Zero's mgoblogger profiles from the HOF page. They were posted c. 2013. There are a few holdovers and a LOT of users that are seen rarely or never. Except for Brian, all of them have a different sort of role now than they did then (some of those role changes are actually more involvement, though).

Wife and I are going to look at a potential fixer upper in our hometown.. which means another house remodel... First house was a fixer upper that took 3 years... now we are growing and need a third bedroom.. yay me for buying into the whole "starter home" idea and going with a 2 bedroom house... Looks like my Saturdays for the foreseeable future may be wife days.. This year was the first fall since our marriage that I haven't missed a game. It was fun while it lasted.

Hosting a housewarming party since we moved. Had to schedule it for the bye week since she's such a stressed out fan, we often watch Michigan games at home to deal with the stress better than we would in public.

Gotta figure out the bluetooth on the new soundbar so that we can have music on for the party and football on the TV muted.

I'm dropping my girlfriend off at the ferry for mackinaw island, while I continue the drive to the beautiful town of munising for some bird hunting and trail cam checking.

My wife is Welsh and still makes fun of the fact that our football players wear helmets and pads in contrast to Rugby where the don't wear those and people get their skulls crushed periodically.

When we visited Ann Arbor for the school visit trip for my youngest son we attended the game.  It was the App State revenge game.  I had my wife and son singing the Victors along with the band by the second quarter.

So what am I going to do for Wife Day?  Replacing a 30 amp circuit breaker with a 25 amp one, repairing a joist in the attic and ripping out a big vine in the back yard (per my HOA's demands).

The Mrs and I are driving from Dallas to Fayetteville to soak up some fall scenery in the Ozark and Ouachita National Forests and catch what is technically an SEC matchup between Arkansas and Vandy. No connections to Arkansas... just like seeing new things.

I have to go look at wedding venues with my fiancée.  Are weddings worthwhile or a great way to blow 20 grand in four hours?  I’d rather spend the money on a house but she wants the wedding :/

I'm like a month late on this, but perhaps this will still find you...

IMO, the wedding ceremony itself is the most important because that's where you formally, publicly, and legally commit to a forever together in the company of loved ones. The venues, flowers, music, schedules, seating charts, attire, etc. are all secondary and last for only a day.

Congrats and good luck with all the planning!

I told my girlfriend 3 weeks ago about the bye, and that I would follow any plans she made, go anywhere she chose, and see any friends she wanted to see.

She has thus far failed to produce any plans or preferences, and the extent of her involvement has been to simply tell me which days this weekend she has off work...but that they might change.

Everyone wish me the strength for a good fight, because it's coming like a freight train...

My wife and I are headed to State College at the invitation of another couple to watch Iowa at PSU.  The good news is we haven’t seen them in a while and we’ll have fun.  The bad news is it’s PSU, and it’s going to rain.

We went camping in the Wichita Mountain National Wildlife Refuge-about 100 miles SW of Oklahoma City...from Thursday through Sunday morning. We hiked about 20 mile over some pretty rough terrain on Friday and Saturday. It was difficult pulling in any bars for any game updates on Saturday-and the weather delay increased the level of difficulty/confusion here. No special debts owed  :)
