I haven't had St. Bernardus 12, actually.  Guess I need to try it.

And yeah, as far as I know, the Abbey still sells it that way.  I'm sure the bottle shop I bought it at was reselling it illegally.

Ha... that's great.  So to bring this full circle, Chimay makes their own brand of cheese.  It's absolutely incredible but also nearly impossible to find.

12/06/2018 - 9:54am The most consistent way I've…

The most consistent way I've been able to do it is to find a local vendor (grocery store, liquor store, etc.) that you know gets shipments of the rare stuff.  Then become a loyal customer.  Make other purchases there.  Chat up the owner or beer/wine department head, etc.  I've had really good luck that way, not only for beer, but for rare bourbons and scotches.  One more thing: are you sure Russian River ships to CO?

And, if you're really nuts like me, you can always make a pilgramage.  I went all the way to Amsterdam to get my hands on some Westvleteren 12.

The Earle is great, as is Mikette on the north side of town. Taking my wife to Standard Bistro and Larder tonight for her birthday. Very much looking forward to that.

Congrats! I have a five year old and twin one year olds (and I’m 42... they haven’t killed me yet).

Savor every moment. It goes so much faster than you think.

Grilling burgers tomorrow, smoking a pork butt on Sunday, getting my cholesterol/triglycerides checked on Tuesday.  Toss in some beer, bourbon, and garden planting for good measure.

I was a bouncer at Scorekeeper's in 1997-98.  Lots of long nights turning away horrible fake IDs and getting NYPD pizza at 4 AM.  Good times, those.

Like Ashley's, Skeep's was a beer bar before beer bars were a thing.  I always appreciated that.  Didn't appreciate the unique odor that seemed to permeate from my very soul after a shift at that place, though.

01/09/2018 - 1:42pm My wife and I had our twins

My wife and I had our twins at Mott last year.  The level of care at that facility simply blew me away.  We had our first child at Royal Oak Beaumont (no slouch, either) and there was really no comparison.

Here's to a long and healthy life for your little nephew!  Go Blue!

89X was literally a treasure trove of great Canadian music.  So many underrated bands... The Hip, Sloan, The Gandharvas, etc.  I feel fortunate to have grown up in the shadow of their airwaves.  RIP Gord.  Thanks for the music.

05/10/2017 - 12:43pm Yeah, I don't really get the

Yeah, I don't really get the Pappy obsession.  Like you said, it's good, but not THAT good.  I think the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection (which, yeah, good luck getting a bottle of one of those, too) is better.

I've had Whistle Pig.  Like the Pappy, it's good, but I find it to be overpriced.  I enjoy both Michter's and Willett, and Bulleit isn't bad either, if you're looking for a cheaper option.  If you ever see Thomas H. Handy Rye (again, from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection), do yourself a favor and order a glass.  Hands down the best rye, and one of the best whiskeys, I've ever tasted.

05/09/2017 - 9:37am I'm hoping I don't have to go

I'm hoping I don't have to go quite that long before getting back into it.  Going to try and force myself once they start sleeping a little better.  Thankfully I hit it pretty hard for the previous six months, including mostly giving up alcohol while my wife was pregnant.  But man, twins are a lot of work.  Who knew?!

05/09/2017 - 9:26am My wife and I had twins three

My wife and I had twins three weeks ago, so I'm definitely getting worse at the moment.
