that is so cool.  you are the best, SB.

nope.  cage match on the 18th.  first guy out wins.  no doctors, no time limit, no clubs allowed.

yeah.  lots of goodwill to brian but he's losing it like a car whose engine quit but is still coasting.  one explanatory post on the front page, lay out some time tables, and many of us would probably help him push the car into the gas station.  not my blog.  not my business for which i need to make the decisions.

exploding shuttlecocks?  chased by dogs who bark bees?  you could post a video of it....if you have a degree in computer science.  (HUEL, blog killers!!)

07/21/2018 - 9:21pm guessing you are typing in…

guessing you are typing in on your phone?   sounds like a fine dinner.  maybe we should talk about getting you a stand-by generator for your place down there.  not a huge expense, adds value to your house some year when you sell it, and you will be incredibly happy one day when it kicks on for a day (or week) or two.  not kidding.  email me or call me and we can talk about what it takes.  sometimes there are zoning issues with how/where you set it up and we can work through those.

07/21/2018 - 8:37pm i suppose i should share too…

i suppose i should share too.  happy chaos has broken out at the farm.  barn chores done early, all tractors in the barn, i am spinning tunes on the computer (pretty good speakers) and the youngest 6 kids are dancing.  hoops tournament tomorrow for the middle 5 kids, so no church.  about to put venison burgers on the grill.   drinking a pleasant, nothing fancy, red pop.

07/21/2018 - 8:22pm had to look up lexington.

had to look up lexington.

no shame in free cold beer on a summer night.  heck, if you're camping stuff like that is the nectar of the gods.

07/21/2018 - 8:20pm can confirm the spring was…

can confirm the spring was way different, way cold, and that led to a much later time that the water warmed up.

has been drier than normal too, but the good news is that this year's crop is rye and it got plenty of moisture early on and is blond and beautiful now so the moisture issue for us this year is unimportant.  we will harvest it soon.

07/21/2018 - 7:52pm bogies lampjaw, get out of…

bogies lampjaw, get out of there!!

kidding aside, the deer fly season is pretty limited to mid-june to start of august at the latest.  also, if you bike when its cold (say mid-50's or less), dark or windy you'll be fine.  i normally take advantage of those conditions if i'm going into the woods between june and august.  i got careless last week and got bombed.

did you really retire?  did you bring your boat up this time and are you going to leave it here?

07/21/2018 - 7:25pm with all due respect ST3, i…

with all due respect ST3, i don't think badminton is the game to prepare you for the zombie apocalypse.  may i suggest some training like detroit blue, above?  with 20 million california zombies (and those are the worst kind) coming your way, you are going to have to be fit.

enjoy your cold ones.

07/21/2018 - 7:22pm man, i've heard of some…

man, i've heard of some extreme races, but nothing like that.  i can't imagine the conditioning you are training for.  congrats on that commitment.   if you think of it, can you post something here in 2 months when you've finished?  you're going to make it.  it will be a 'whole lot of suck' as my ranger nephew says, but you are going to make it.

that's a commitment re: your training.  what type of event, and when?  are you close to ready for it?

that sounds outstanding.   the ice cream, that is.  not having 3 wives.  will the other 2 wives help you out?

07/21/2018 - 6:52pm the water, specifically lake…

the water, specifically lake michigan, was wicked cold here until fairly late in june.  not the norm and kept me from swimming.  some years the big lake or at least GT bay is swimmable by or before memorial day.

good for you getting healthy and staying sober.  both of those can be a big issue in someone's life.

07/21/2018 - 4:24pm Not sure when in august you…

Not sure when in august you plan on being there, but back in the day I can tell you from personal experience that we used to have hockey training camp start then.  I don't think we could be on the ice until September but that might have changed in the intervening centuries since I played college hockey.  We were not secretive at all about our workouts but maybe that has changed since the glaciers have receded from our state and electricity was invented....

too many times i end up watching the videos.   and enjoying them.   and i'll probably find time today to watch this one.

so stop it.  please.

07/20/2018 - 11:11pm statistically married people…

statistically married people live longer, have a higher income, and have more 'relations', so to speak, than single people.  the secret is to choose wisely - and that doesn't mean choose the craziest/drama queen/cutie/person who'll say 'yes' to you.   it means wisdom, skill in living, not rashly.  enjoy the wife of your youth, rejoice in the relationship.   tremendous mutual respect and care to one another.

beyond that, he who finds a wife finds a good thing, and finds favor with the Lord.

07/19/2018 - 8:57am watched that one and then…

watched that one and then checked the box scores thanks to google.  we had about 330 yds of offense to their 140.  they only had a handful of first downs the whole game and but for that punt return (yeah, it still counts...) ohio was shut out.  and if we don't fumble the pitch on their 10, well maybe another score.  some things never change.

lots of 3-4 defense with the 4 about 6" off the line.

the secret to genghis' offense was his clever use of elephants for his O-line.  they called it pachyderm power football.  not enough speed to pull, but unstoppable in short yardage situations.

i'm with timmaay.  been trying to get involved, motivated solely by seth's comments about fixes, but be serious, the new blog is meadow muffins.  it never should've been rolled out.  and i can imagine a huge, h-u-g-e drop in visits, page landings, etc. b/c of it.  i easily stayed away for over a month with a handful of posts.

and in the old format, i could put a picture here of our crops/livestock, and make fun of ST3 living in a coastal desert with 20 million too many people.  when the zombie apocalypse happens, he'll be pining for the safety of up north, but running for his life as 20 million california zombies pursue him and his lovely family (please use some of this to chase the 4-5* california recruits to michigan).  but now, you'll just have to imagine it...

the new site is a foolish goat rodeo.  if i was representing brian the 'dialogue' with HUEL (blog killers!!) would be quite stern.  unless brian paid them in green stamps, family video and blockbuster coupons, or mgopoints, how could a company so badly miss the target?

07/16/2018 - 6:26pm suggest you pick better…

suggest you pick better cattle and butchers.  a well cut, well-aged filet is a joy.  you are eating old, grain-fed, gmo-filled, vaccine-riddled cows.  no wonder the taste and texture are bad.

excuse me.  you both forgot butter and bacon.  i may a big fan of you both, but i suggest you supplement your menu or your lives might just end up as empty, tasteless shells of what could've been....

there is a picture at the presser with engler in the background.  (i'd embed it but i lack the computer science degree necessary to accomplish that deed.)

anyway, if you just look at the picture with no context, it pretty much looks like engler is fixing to eat that guy, jaaba the hut style.

07/15/2018 - 7:17am if you only ever lost power…

if you only ever lost power for a few hours, and are only worried about a fridge, then don't bother.  just get a little portable unit and make sure you have fuel to run it if/when you ever need it.  we live in the boonies and power goes out more frequently.  we also have a bigger family and are running a farm so there are a lot of moving parts.  is true we could draw water from our old-style pump to water the animals (and us), but that is far from the house and if its in the winter after a big storm, would have to be many snow shoe trips in and out of the woods.

as to the cost to run, while it is not what you'd want for your day-to-day operations, it is peanuts relative to the difficulties of no power for days. even more so if you have young, infirm and/or elderly in your home. if you read the specs on any generator it will tell you the rate of fuel usage at a given load.  we have 1,000 gals of propane hooked up to ours.  it will run for months, especially if we don't use it all the time.

07/14/2018 - 11:22pm if you get a 15 kw generator…

if you get a 15 kw generator you will be able to run most systems, and all the important systems in your house.  google that and you'll get a bunch in the $3K-3500 range, including the automatic transfer switch.  if you wait til they go on sale then probably save another $500. i have my old 15 kw in the barn and if you really wanted to, have the mods give me your contacts (back channel) and you can buy it for peanuts.  it worked fine, but i wanted to upgrade.

it'll be less than $1,000, maybe less than $500 to do the hook up with your electrical panel and the propane/natural gas hook up.  last football season i swapped out my 15kw for a 25 kw and can now run all systems, barn included.

exceptionally useful, will save your bacon some day/week when the rest of the world is without power.  who remembers the summer of '04 when some knucklehead in ohio didn't throw the power switch and nearly 1/3rd of our country lost power for 1-7 days?  i do, but i had a gennie that kicked on and no problems...

indeed.  i have it on good authority that beer is good for zombie apocalypses.  i should add that the better and more voluminous the beer, the safer we shall all be, and i would never kid about such a serious subject.
