I get not being thrilled about RUT and MARY, but I don't understand the vitriol.

01/17/2019 - 9:44am And they lost an incredible…

And they lost an incredible QB this year in Hurts. Doesn't matter a ton unless Tua gets injured, but still.

01/16/2019 - 8:46am Yikes. It is a big deal, it…

Yikes. It is a big deal, it's wrong, and it happens to a lot of folks regardless of their background.

Probably because he's like 8'10"

01/15/2019 - 9:11am If you consistently get 3-4…

If you consistently get 3-4 yards on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down, you can probably win most of the time, but If you fail to get your yards on any of those downs and that's the only tool in the toolbox, you're punting on 4th down.

Such a strategy can't keep up with opposing offenses willing to (and adept at) chucking it 10, 20, or 50 yards down the field.

An offense looking for the homerun ball has more margin for error than a road-grader these days. Stuffed on 1st and 2nd down? Well, we've still got a dozen pass plays we like from 3rd and 10.

Zoom out a tiny bit there, Cap'n.

Sample size caveat applies (like you said), but this is a cool breakdown and well explained. I enjoyed the fact that opponents=red and discipline=green.

Apparently, the Silverdome has been blown up (twice), cleared, and was being used as a VW recall graveyard as recently as April of this year.

I take your point, but he did take a few meaningful snaps against Notre Dame and look pretty solid.

Take it back!

11/26/2018 - 11:34am Your comment is the first…

Your comment is the first thing I've read about the game that I enjoy and that is messed up. My suggestions:

  • The Abomination
  • The Monstrosity
  • The Game We Do Not Speak Of (or TGWDNSO)
11/21/2018 - 3:30pm Disagree. The defense is…

Disagree. The defense is doing quite well by allowing less than 2 TDs per game (13.5 pts), but the offense is no slouch either, scoring over 36 pts (5 TDs and change) on average*.

Average score this year is 36-13 Michigan. Let's take a moment to appreciate how good we have it right now.

*I didn't filter out D/ST scores, but still

11/21/2018 - 2:59pm Our perceptions are all out…

Our perceptions are all out of whack after watching most of this season.

That is so true. I find myself getting annoyed at all plays that allow more than 2 yards.

Note the tiny precip amounts though. It's probably not raining much after 12n according to this.

11/21/2018 - 1:53pm (No subject)

Not much to it, folks. Forties and a little bit of rain.

AKA "late November in the Midwest".

Thankfully, this is not shaping up to be 2017 Minnesota (though that same outcome would be most welcome).

Tip of the cap for the self-analysis and mea culpa.

11/16/2018 - 11:38am I did not mean to imply…

I did not mean to imply anything at all about who should do what, just that the Steelers might be less keen on a guy if they believe he might be holding out on his team given what's happened with Bell.

If the Steelers graded Oliver and another DT similarly, but they believed someone else was more of a "team player" based on their evals, you don't think they'd go with the other guy?

11/16/2018 - 11:35am Yeah, my comment has nothing…

Yeah, my comment has nothing to do with what's fair, who's to blame, or forcing players into contracts...  Just that the Steelers probably aren't thrilled with how this played out and because of that, it's possible that they and some other teams may shy away from a guy if they believe he is holding out on his current team and may be more likely to do so in the future.

11/16/2018 - 10:05am Maybe more than in the past…

Maybe more than in the past. Just ask the Steelers if they value loyalty or if they might shy away from people who seem to pursue their individual interests at the expense of the team's.

Why do you say that? He seems level-headed and reasonable to me.

Exactly. That's Shea running in the final play to make it 49-0 Michigan.  You can also see smoke from Brutus who has just committed some sort of pyrotechnic Seppuku.

I think this is the uniform in question.

11/09/2018 - 5:29pm I think there's a disconnect…

I think there's a disconnect here.  I've never heard of anyone associating football trash talk with a university's founder. If someone said "Stanford sucks" I would not imagine they were disparaging Leland and Jane Stanford.

I can't speak for others, but my poking fun at the Rutgers football team has absolutely nothing to do with it's namesake (which I knew nothing about until a few minutes ago).

11/09/2018 - 4:49pm Perhaps it's a compliment to…

Perhaps it's a compliment to say that the moribund football team is not worthy of using the full name then?

11/09/2018 - 4:44pm Not sure if it's already…

Not sure if it's already been defined, but a Rutger for more touchdowns than an opponent's total yards would be good.

Has an opponent ever been held to negative total yards?  Are running clocks typically implemented under certain circumstances or is it the discretion of the coaches?

I'm like a month late on this, but perhaps this will still find you...

IMO, the wedding ceremony itself is the most important because that's where you formally, publicly, and legally commit to a forever together in the company of loved ones. The venues, flowers, music, schedules, seating charts, attire, etc. are all secondary and last for only a day.

Congrats and good luck with all the planning!

11/08/2018 - 2:17pm A few thoughts about…

A few thoughts about breaking 100...

  • Michigan scored 78 (including 29 in a quarter) in 2016 with a slow and sloppy start that included only 1 turnover. That's not terribly far off the pace already.
  • Michigan could hit the century mark with some combination of the following:
    • Average of 3 offensive TDs per quarter (84 pts)
    • 2 defensive and/or special teams TDs (14 pts)
    • 1 FG (3 pts)

If ever there will be a chance, this might be it. I'm confident that even if Michigan jumps out to a quick lead and turtles, guys like Tru and Turner can still keep the rout up. We'll see!

I thought this was going to be related to...

  1. Possible revenge against Alabama for the 2012 opener
  2. Possible revenge against Notre Dame for this year's opener

The latter is pretty unlikely though.

11/02/2018 - 5:23pm If not for the improvement…

If not for the improvement week and the 2017 PSU result, I'd be with you. Michigan is not going to lack energy or effort in this one. Revenge Tour, baby.

11/01/2018 - 3:12pm My wife (in EMU gear) and I …

My wife (in EMU gear) and I (in Michigan gear) went to Vandy @ Arkansas this week because "bye week in the Ozark mountains" sounded nice. A local guy looked surprised and said...

Michigan?! Long way from home, aren't you? So you came to God's Country to see a real football game, huh? I can only hope that one materializes.

It did not.

11/01/2018 - 10:53am The new weakness is… uh…

The new weakness is… uh…

Yeah, that's how I feel about the whole team.  There are definitely spots that are stronger than others, but what's the biggest weakness of this team over the last month? Occasionally spotty place kicking?  I'm cool with that.

Sounds about right.

10/26/2018 - 8:47am Uh... I, for one, am…

Uh... I, for one, am perfectly happy with Michigan's current offense. It's a crazy amalgamation of 9OL man-ball and spread option and seems like it's just becoming fully operational.

The Mrs and I are driving from Dallas to Fayetteville to soak up some fall scenery in the Ozark and Ouachita National Forests and catch what is technically an SEC matchup between Arkansas and Vandy. No connections to Arkansas... just like seeing new things.

Debts owed to Voodoo-Mama-Juju are long overdue... with interest. A LOT of interest.

Kill 'em in the face (in a sportsmanlike football sense, of course). Michigan by 29

10/16/2018 - 12:30pm It's early yet, but it's…

It's early yet, but it's looking a little slick.

Might be a good day to have a plethora of running plays, counters, and counter-counters (check), a few great TEs for shorter routes (check), and a stellar defense (check).

I fear a targeting/ejection call against Patterson or Higdon.

(not a typo, also not completely kidding)

That is still mathematically possible. You're welcome.

10/10/2018 - 4:13pm I think they can. In fact, I…

I think they can. In fact, I feel like the team is ready for the big stage in a way they haven't been for much of the last decade. Since Coach Carr left, there have been some surprise wins and very hard-fought rivalry games, but they felt like exceptions rather than the rule.

This year, it seems like Michigan is getting back to a an expectation of winning big games, not just a hope.
