Do you reside within the 517 area code? I believe the only library there was converted into a combo strip bar/bail bonds office.  (Uzis are allowed in this strip bar.)

2nd on Sling sucking due to buffering, random service drops and crappy channel selection (no BTN).  Will probably switch to YouTube this season for college football season only.

Good question - seems to be that 1000 is the new voting threshold judging by other commenters who lack the same ability to vote.

It's actually not that hard once you get the hang of it - but I'm doing this on a computer so can't attest to mobile functionality.  Just save image or gif to hard drive or phone and then use the lmce File Manager icon above (the one that looks like sun + mountain) to post it here.  Like chatster says not sure how to resize either.

Post is by chatster about halfway down and applies to both gifs and pics.  Also shows how to post links like I just did.

Cool man.  Honestly I think we should be talking politics in some capacity. In a respectful manner. Otherwise it just degenerates into name calling and stuff.  After all it's a free country.  Sort of nowadays.

Tried posting a gif to see if I could do it but my 12 year old Fortnite expert son would be better off doing it and he's at the beach.

Happy Friday the 13th all.

Hmm. Quick google check and July 21 is the following for national holidays:

Invite an Alien to Live With You Day. Legal Drinking Age Day. National Junk Food Day. National Tug-of-War Tournament Day. Take a Monkey to Lunch Day.

My bet is that an alien monkey from Omicron Persei 8 is coming over to his place with some Taco Bell and a 6-pack of Busch Light.  But that could be wrong.

Can't make this stuff up.

South Park guys were on 60 Minutes last year. IIRC they pretty much said they were thinking of taking the show in a different direction because what was actually happening IRL was crazier than anything they could come up with.

07/02/2018 - 12:56pm It's been talked about on…

It's been talked about on this site before and every day I agree more that the biggest issue facing society is the hardening of the divisions created by "tribalism".  We all find our own echo chambers in our preferred blogs, news, friendships, etc.  They act to reinforce our own beliefs and tell us that the other side is wrong, immoral, unethical.  In the process, we lose our empathy and any consideration for what matters to the other side.

This site isn't any different when it comes to all things UM and our "enemies".  I don't know if this will ever get resolved in my lifetime barring some major event. I hope it will but I'm not holding my breath.

Enjoy your weekends everyone and Go Blue!

06/21/2018 - 2:51pm Agreed. My company didn't…

Agreed. My company didn't enable and cover up for rapists in its administration and athletics and then try to claim attorney-client privilege while being investigated by the state's attorney general. Just the usual corporate CYA stuff.

06/21/2018 - 1:30pm I worked for a company that…

I worked for a company that was very sensitive to exposing itself (no pun intended) to any type of government scrutiny so internal emails were regularly cc'd to the corporate general counsel to claim attorney-client privilege.  I think this is a pretty common thing in the corporate world so this really isn't that surprising to me.  The stupid part was sending an email claiming that's what they were doing. Dorf.

06/21/2018 - 10:47am FWIW I have had previous…

FWIW I have had previous issues with Chrome running slow, too many ads, etc. and it only got worse once the new site came on-line.  Reading some of the comments below I realized that the issue wasn't as much with me and my preferences as it was with Chrome in general.  Makes sense as I just read that ultimately Google is a marketing/advertising company so less interested in users than with the businesses that actually pay them big $.

So after looking into it, reading some recent articles I decided to make the switch to Firefox.  Firefox has spent the last few years revamping their browser by making privacy and user experience better since they aren't as beholden to their advertisers.

Also they have a mobile browser - Firefox Focus - with built-in privacy settings - think Chrome Private Browsing.

So far so good.

06/20/2018 - 4:26pm Tried looking for the quote…

Tried looking for the quote from Dostoyevsky's The Brothers Karamazov but didn't feel like spending all day.  Basically it goes something along the lines of - we build people up and put them on pedestals so we can tear them down again when it suits us.  So the concept of hating on people like Lebron and any other celebrity has been around a long time.

Personally he doesn't bother me that much. The move to Miami came off as tone-deaf and harsh to Cleveland is about the worst thing I can say about him.

06/20/2018 - 1:11pm Him. Stephen A. Whitlock…

Him. Stephen A. Whitlock. Bayless. Some others I don't want to remember. Throw them in a hat and pull one out - they're all the same to me. Say provocative things to get clicks and headlines. Then on day 3 switch to the other side just to keep things fresh.

06/15/2018 - 1:25pm Old thread now so no one…

Old thread now so no one will probably ever see this but here is my new reason as of today.

Back in April, Xfinity quoted me a price for updated service as my old "promotional" rate was set to expire. I actually have the email that has my price quote.  $69.99 with a discount of $29.96 for a package rate of $40.03 plus fees & taxes with the line that HBO was included and after 24 months regular rate of $15 would apply.  I checked today and it was $47 higher. The rep I was chatting with agreed with me initially.  Then came back and said that the regular rate was $99.95 with a discount to $69.99. Sorry that's not what the order I signed off on said.  Then he reminded that I was in my promotional period, i.e. the termination fee of $230 would apply.  I politely said that application of the fee was debatable.  In the meantime I'm looking at other options and it's basically choosing between a red hot poker in the bum or a stick in the eye.

06/15/2018 - 1:18pm The sick/twisted part of me…

The sick/twisted part of me wants him to stick around and continue to destroy Staee from the inside.

The better part of me knows that not all Sparties have done anything to deserve this and the victims of all the crimes committed by faculty, administrators and athletes deserve better so kick Fat John to the curb along with the rest of the enablers in the Board and elsewhere.

06/13/2018 - 4:22pm YouTube TV is probably the…

YouTube TV is probably the way that I will go for football this season.  Sling doesn't offer BTN and I've had issues with buffering and system crashes during very inconvenient times (MLB playoffs last year) and my complaints to customer services got bot auto-responses.

I would've loved to dump Xfinity/Comcast but they pretty much cornered me into reupping with them for 2 years along with a cancellation fee since they're pretty much the only game in town.  I'll be curious if their download speed gets worse with net neutrality expiring.  Makes me feel less guilty about using Kodi on FireStick.

06/12/2018 - 9:05am I can see that. Like movies…

I can see that. Like movies and music it's all personal preference. I think this particular book resonated more with me based on some things I'm dealing with now and things that have happened to close friends.

Part of the reason that I haven't joined a book club.  Reading is enjoyable to me when I can do it at my own pace around work, kids & personal life. To have to read a book that large in a month would make it seem like a job/homework which can take the enjoyment of it.

06/11/2018 - 1:41pm Goldfinch is a solid choice…

Goldfinch is a solid choice.  Beautifully sad story. Well written.  Engaging characters and development. Deeper meanings.  Easily one of my favorite books of the past few years.

06/11/2018 - 1:38pm I would agree with that…

I would agree with that assessment.  It did kinda fizzle.  I like books that make me think and the initial theory behind it definitely has stuck with me years later.

One Second After is the same but in a different way. It seems crazy to think that society could completely fall apart in 60 days but having read that book seems entirely plausible.

I'd also rec 2 other Roth books - American Pastoral and The Human Stain

06/11/2018 - 9:56am Always on the look-out for…

Always on the look-out for book recommendations from well-read groups so thanks for the post.

My non-fiction picks would be:  Robert Caro's series on Lyndon Johnson; All the Devils Are Here (2008 financial meltdown); any of Michael Lewis's books; The Psychopath Test by Jon Ronson; The Devil in the White City (mentioned above); Into Thin Air and Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer; Terror in the City of Champions by Tom Stanton

I've been reading more fiction last couple of years but its all preference so I would just highly recommend the following: The Years of Rice and Salt by Kim Stanley Robinson, One Second After by Wm Forstchen and just finished The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.  All of those books blew my mind.

06/11/2018 - 9:44am I finished the Wheel of Time…

I finished the Wheel of Time series last year.  Guy who recommended the books to me gave me a heads up that it really slogs down from Path of Daggers (book 8) to Knife of Dreams (book 11) - the last book written by Jordan and he was absolutely correct.  Stick with it because the last 3 written by Brandon Sanderson are worth it.  Great series.

05/23/2018 - 9:03am I'd be the last person

accused of defending Staee lately but I believe they were one of the last schools to schedule a I-AA team.  ND may be the last school but I haven't heard anything on this for years.

05/17/2018 - 9:26am I'll 2nd Kinnick

Been there a couple of times and always enjoyed the atmosphere.  Fans are cool - especially in victory since I haven't seen UM win there yet.

Have been to a few games at ND and thought it was fine but overrated.  I have a good buddy who lives in Evanston and have been to Northwestern a couple of times including M00N.  Seems like an oversized high school stadium but being near Chicago makes up for it.

Running distant 4th is the concrete abomination of Spartan Stadium and the drunkenness surrounding it.  I would take my kids to any of the 3 places above wearing UM gear for any game but would never consider taking them to Staee.
