Angelique on 105.7 with Spielman this AM (Summary)

Submitted by FlexUM on October 24th, 2018 at 7:15 AM

I live in Columbus and at 6:30 this morning Angelique was on 105.7 the zone. It's basically an OSU show in the  morning; Spielman was the primary one speaking with her. Nothing groundbreaking, mostly fluff, but it's a bye week so a few notes...

  • She called the whole msu/um pregame thing silly but certainly felt msu was more at fault. Spielman took pretty strong exception with that and said it was disrespect to the game by both teams but msu was two minutes late so UM should have respected them and moved
  • AC felt Harbaugh is able to "talk the talk" now that he has his foundation. She had a sense he was sort of laying low until he knew he could back it up and had a foundation of a good team moving forward. Everyone is happy stanford harbaugh is ready to kick ass and take names.
  • AC noted there is a definite "new" feeling in the locker room having Shea and a capable offense. Mentioned she hasn't seen the team trust a qb and an offense since Chad Henne. Really seemed to note the defense believes in this offense and there is just a really tight team atmosphere.
  • Growing feeling Gary may be looking to sit out. Comments in general on the osu side were "this guy is no Bosa he needs too play". AC said there really isn't a strong indication either way. She was put off he wasn't at the msu game and thought that was really odd noted "he could have driven himself". Not clear how much pain he is in, what his "team" wants him to do, what he wants to do but also thinks we will have some level of finality after the bye week if he will even try or not.
  • Spielman was quite complimentary of the offense in that it may not be "sexy" but you can see how this train keeps trucking and getting faster, better, etc You can tell from the football side he is genuinely impressed with the physicality of the team.
  • Major praise for Ed Warinner. AC said the lineman are even walking different and it's clear with drevno they were confused as hell. Ed believes in them, encourages them, and simplified it. Mentioned there was quit a bit of eye rolling when ruiz said "this will be the best unit on the team" and pretty much everyone is shocked this line is doing what they are doing.
  • It ended with "hooley" (the other guy on the show) stating osu will still win comfortably in columbus. This UM team cannot score enough and osu will bounce back and essentially, beat that ass, again.

Hooley, repeated again osu will comfortably win in columbus by a couple touchdowns.

This is the whole problem with Michigan State.  When I see a guy like Spielman repeat the bullshit line that MSU was only two minutes late, my first thought is that M should put out its own statement to set the record straight.  They were supposed to be there at 9:45 a.m., so they were 17 minutes late and obviously set the whole thing up...

But the national media doesn't care about the details, or who is telling the truth or not telling the truth.  They are just going to portray both programs as squabbling children.  So if M puts out their own statement, we just get dragged down further into the mud.

I will add that Isaiah Hole said on his podcast that he was on the field (at the far end zone) when this happened and did not witness any of the event staff ask the M players to clear the field.  The ones near him were just watching because it was “really odd” that they were doing the walk in helmets something they apparently have never done before...

My overall take on this situation is that it's dumb on both sides, MSU could have handled it better and harbaugh made it worse.  i have a few things I can't really confirm:

People here say, "They were supposed to be there at 9:45 a.m., so they were 17 minutes late and obviously set the whole thing up..."  I don't see this anywhere else but on this blog.  Everyone else says they start the walk at 9:45 to end at the stadium at 10:00 AM.  That makes a huge difference.

Both sides seem to admit that Harbaugh asked for approval (and received it) to be on the field early (before 10:00 AM).  In this case, M should have been expecting them to come through at some point while they are on the field.  2 minutes late doesn't change anything.  Why didn't Harbaugh have the team ready for this?

Did MSU do anything to announce that they were coming?  It doesn't seem like it.  I don't see any evidence and the videos don't show staff talking with the M players shortly before the walk.

Three things should have happened that I don't think did: 1. Harbaugh should have told his players to be aware of this event.  2. MSU should have announced or talked with the M players on the field - if #1 happens, i'm sure they happily leave the field.  3. MSU should have opened the chain of arms instead of just walking into players.

The main issue here is #3 when physical contact is made.  That created the entire escalation so my blame lies 70% with MSU, 30% with M and 100% stupid.

I still think the bigger issue is that the players who passed by Marshall & Bush could've released their arms, passed by those two, then rejoined their arms and continued on their walk.  Nothing would've happened.

That's what the guys who past Hudson did.  There was no issue on that part of the field.  It was the fake tough guys passing by Marshall & Bush that wouldn't let their arms go to get around a guy who was (right or wrong) clearly in their way.  WTF did they think was going to happen?

That would've avoided the whole mess.

Hurrumph about it?  They celebrate it.  Just like they celebrated Woody destroying the down markers in Ann Arbor and defended Woody his sucker punch to the throat of the Clemson player in the 1978 Gator Bowl.  Of course that wasn't his first recorded and celebrated punch, he also punched a camerman at Michigan Stadium during the 1977 game.  Maybe one of these days somebody will dot the eye of the tuba player as he dots the "i" in Ohio.

not surprising coming from a guy that played at a university that did things like , rip the golue banner down on two different occasions. start pregame ruckuses on numerous occasions and tried to bully michigan  when ever they could get away with it. thank god those days are gone.

I don't know what a Hooley is, but it's wrong.

We're not going to have to score much.  Because our defense is going to be all over Haskins.  He'll get rattled, maybe banged up a bit, and then since OSU has no run game this year, it's game over.

gee, you guys have some wild tales of the amish.  have you ever dealt with them or is this stuff on TV or the internet?   i'm sure they have some DV and child abuse just like any other culture, but they also have a care and concern for one another that is pretty special.  though my wife and i kiddingly refer to our family as the 'electric amish', i do appreciate their desire to raise children not poisoned by the world.  i don't agree with the lengths that they go do do it, but i at least get the rationale.

No, this is not TV or internet wild tales.

I can appreciate a simpler lifestyle and don't think the Amish should be considered suspicious just because they have chosen a different path (my atheist views notwithstanding) but do some research on the puppy mill stuff.

I've encountered it personally.

various amish communities have their differences.  i have never even seen a dog at the amish farms we do business with.  will accept that somewhere, some amish dude is not doing the dog thing right.

i will say they have the most beautiful and amazing plow horses i have ever seen.  20 hands high and wide as my pick up truck.   you could stand two lamas on top of each other just to reach the horses' ears.

Hooley is Bruce Hooley who used to do sports radio up here in Cleveland.  He's actually quite good (albeit for a OSU homer) but is definitely as old school as old school can get.  Probably even more old school than me to be honest.

I liked him because he is quite smart and seldom, if ever, went the hawt taek route of sports radio.  You might not like or agree with him (and safe to say about 90% of this board wouldnt like the way he thinks politically - he's conservative - or sports related - he's pro-Ohio) but you wouldnt have to wonder where he stands.

Great work, OP.

Interesting to see other perspectives on the MSU situation and OSU's chances, no matter how incredibly wrong I think those takes are.

Thanks yeah I thought so it. I'll say it again though I found it very odd how much Spielman was on the side of "msu's AD said this and michigan should have stood down". Spielman always goes on these "respect the game" tangents though on this show. Seriously, if a player farts he takes that is disrespecting the game.

You can either believe the printed schedule, or you can believe the AD's claim that the "start time" for the walk really meant (this time, and for the first time), the time that the players were going to leave FOR the event.

It's a transparent and clumsy lie by the Sparty AD and if Spielman bought it he is a moron.

I really wish Sparty believed that the scheduled time for the game was the time they were supposed to leave for the game.  How many touchdowns could Michigan have scored starting at noon, while the Spartans were walking towards the stadium?

This thing is so simple to me.

Question: Were UM players permitted by written agreement to be on the field warming up at that time?

Answer: Yes.

Conclusion: MSU was in the wrong to go all “silverback gorilla” and try to intimidate our team.

FauxMo

But, their penises are almost exactly like that of a silverback gorilla!

(Zoological Note: Contrary to the popular imagination, it is not a compliment to be "hung like a gorilla." Silverbacks have tiny penises, only 3-6 centimeters, or about 1 to 2 inches, when fully erect.)

FauxMo -

Gonna need a better explanation than that on why you know so much about gorilla dicks, my friend.  Really sorry to pry, mate.  But... inquiring minds and all.

(ps - Colombia trip is less than a month away - Soy tan bombo!)

I went to Quebec City with a buddy a few years ago where literally every woman we say was tres belle and avoided international incidents, so I'm sure I'll be fine(?)  I'll actually be in Cartegena during The Game, so I'll have to start rehearsing Saludar a los vencedores and perhaps lead aforementioned pageant contestants in a sing-along of that.  Vamos Azul!

Is it actually reasonable to suggest that Gary drive himself (or, I guess, get a ride with a friend) to EL? (Would he be allowed in the locker room or on the sidelines? I have no idea about the rules of such things.)

FlexUM

I thought the same thing! You can tell Angelique is trying to push for info on Gary (which is good...that's her job). She is the one that brought up "it's an hour away hop in the car and drive in street clothes".

You can tell she is taking that as an indication he is separating from the team. Maybe she is reading into it to much but I think she has a point. It's not like they were in maryland.

For the record I have no issue with him shutting it down.
