12/12/2018 - 8:08am So nothing changed for you?…

So nothing changed for you? When we did our visit at M, they were very clear about the process of early admit notification by Christmas and deferrals being notified by the regular admit date. The emails did nothing to change any of that. Lesson here is sometimes there can be too much communication.  Seems to me they were just trying to be open with alumni that had kids applying. I appreciated it since it didn’t really mean much or change anything.  Of course I didn’t try to glean information from it that wasn’t there.

12/12/2018 - 8:03am Updated email to those of us…

Updated email to those of us who received the first:

“You recently received an email from us about your student’s application to the University of Michigan. This email was distributed to alumni parents of our Early Action applicants in an effort to share information regarding the application process.

Some of you have expressed concerns that the email suggests an indication of an admission decision from our Early Action process. Please know that the receipt of today’s email has no correlation to, nor is an indication of, your student’s upcoming decision. We apologize for this lack of clarity.

Students who were notified that they qualified for Early Action will receive a decision by Dec. 24. At that time, these students will either be offered admission or deferred for a later decision. Deferred applicants, and those who did not qualify for Early Action, will receive a final decision by early April.

We apologize for any confusion, and thank you for your patience while we work to make our admission offers in the coming months.”

Eh, I’m not stressed. He’s already accepted and excited about going to a small private school in state. If he gets accepted he may still not go...now that may kill me.

Got the same email. Did it only go to alumni parents?

For your reading pleasure:

”As one of 583,000 proud living alumni of the University of Michigan, you know firsthand the value of a U-M education. Every year, we are fortunate to review tens of thousands of applications from prospective students -- many from enthusiastic alumni families -- who are hoping to attend this university and engage with all that it has to offer.

This year, we have the pleasure of receiving your student’s Early Action application. I imagine that the decision to apply came after hearing about your positive experiences here at U-M, and I thank you for your continued support of our mission to serve the common good through preeminence in creating, communicating, preserving, and applying knowledge, art, and academic values, and in developing leaders and citizens who will challenge the present and enrich the future.

Because of the high volume of applications we receive, we want you to know a decision may not reach your student until spring. While our team is busy giving each application a thoughtful, holistic review, I want to share with you some additional information for alumni families. This list of Frequently Asked Questions addresses our continually increasing competitiveness, our review process, and other issues related to enrollment that you may find helpful.

Additionally, because our transfer pool is growing, there is an opportunity for your student to transfer to Michigan later if they are not initially admitted. We hope you share this option with your student.

Thank you again, and Go Blue!”

Plus, they are accepting a higher percentage of kids they wouldn’t normally accept.  That has and will impact the directional schools and smaller colleges around the state. I work at one and it hit us hard last year.

One reason I don't mind M sports on Fox.  I got home right after the game ended and the replay was ready to go on their app already.  Plus, it streams way better for me than ESPN.

None of us has seen Peters play with a competent OL in front of him.  I’m going to think outside the box and let JH decide who gives us the best chance to win.

11/02/2018 - 7:50am I've watched every game this…

I've watched every game this year and I think they deserve your attention.  They play a really good brand of hockey.  They've had one really bad game, but the rest have been competitive with just a few break downs that killed them.

They had a rough start, but I would attribute that to 4 injured veteran defenseman (3,000+ games played) being replaced by 4 rookies (22 games played) basically.  Plus, they had a really difficult schedule to start the season that included trips to LA for back to back games and South Florida against a really good Lightning team.

Larkin has really been the catalyst, played 23.5 minutes ( a lot for a Forward) the other night and it was probably his best game as a pro.  Dominant.

Key is to watch without expectation.  Are they winning the cup? No.  Are they playing competitive hockey with a really young lineup, for sure.

"ESPN says the College Football Playoff National Championship between Alabama and Georgia drew a 16.7 overnight rating. That’s a 9-percent jump from last year’s title game between Alabama and Clemson, which posted a 16.0."

Not rooting, but I prefer Sparty win this and give Purdue two B1G losses. Then root for NW to win out.

Lived there for a few years. Yes, it is a dump. It is in fact the largest in the lower 48, I believe Juneau is the largest overall.  Interesting fact, I believe it also sits on one of the largest aquifers in the U.S.  Our sprinkler was simply a pump connected to a pipe that a few guys pounded into the ground.

10/25/2018 - 10:34pm You know what makes an arena…

You know what makes an arena great? A really, really good team.  I was at the joe in the early 80s when it was brand new and it sucked, because the product sucked.

I was there in the mid-2000s when they were winning cups. The condition of the arena sucked, but nobody cared because on the ice it was second to none.
