Greg Mattison Rumblings

Submitted by DaveHuck on January 7th, 2019 at 1:04 PM

Isiaah Hole just tweeted out an “woo boy”, followed by a “Say it ain’t so Matty” from Chris Wormley. Rumblings starting that Greg Mattison May be announcing retirement. Nothing confirmed, but there are several tweets with Mattison’s name linked.  Bummer, if true.

How awesome would it be if he were trolling OSU? Not saying that I think that's happening. But it would be one of my favorite things ever if he got all the way to signing a contract, put the pen on the paper, then looked up, grinned, dropped the pen, and burst into the biggest belly laugh you ever did see/hear.

Not for nothing but this isn't the first time Mattison has spurned us for a rival.  And last time we immediately won a national title.

The amount of insider knowledge he will undoubtedly pass on to Ohio state is enormous. Something is very, very wrong in Ann Arbor.

Hope it isn't true, but if so I wish him the best.  Heck of a coach, and has given so much to Michigan.  Definitely can't fault him for taking a promotion, and a likely pay increase.  Good luck if its true.  Michigan will be fine....

I’m already starting to dislike Day more than Meyer and Harbaugh is still having tea parties with Pep Hamilton. Day becomes coach and then decides to just start swooning everyone on our staff to come join his? What the hell is that sabatage.

One of our best recruiters and position coaches going to Ohio State. Program is in disarray. How much insider knowledge can he give OSU?

I hate that school down south so much.

I mean, Michigan is not going to offer him the DC position.  I would guess that OSU Defensive Coordinator is not an easy job to say no to, right?  I'm not sure what this really reflects as to Michigan except that their D-line coach is really highly regarded.

What is this obsession OSU has with poaching Michigan staff... after they beat us?  Is this sabotage?  If so that's some weird insecurity.  Schiano was under fire this season so his departure isn't a shock.

Mattison has been talking retirement for years - didn't he agree to stay on when Harbaugh was hired?

Despite people's unending negative comments here, we do have a talented coaching staff and these rumblings are a natural byproduct of that talent level.  Mattison is a phenomenal recruiter and maybe that's something Day is worried about.
