I doubt those fades happen if the game is in question. It’s annoying that the stats don’t look as good, but I wouldn’t call it an issue.

As someone who studied jazz, the Nebraska portion really spoke to me. I've seen a lot of bad jazz in my day, and that described Nebraska's season perfectly.

10/02/2018 - 1:55pm I haven't watched every MSU…

I haven't watched every MSU snap, but Davis has won every one-on-one matchup I've seen him go for, and I've never seen him drop a catchable ball. White may be the better player, but I haven't gathered that from the MSU games I've seen.

Lewerke running, and Davis catching 50/50 balls are going to be my main concern when we play Sparty. Hopefully we take advantage of their less than stellar pass D.

MGoBloggers: If you don't like a thread topic, just move on. You don't have an obligation to be a dick.

DTOW: This is a fan blog, and you have every right to start this kind of discussion. I have been having similar thoughts myself. I still think he's gone after this year (especially if we have an awesome year), but I can see a scenario where we keep him for multiple reasons.

  1. He could go higher in the draft if he stays.
  2. If we don't win the B1G or go to the playoffs, he could come back and try to win it next year.
  3. Depending on where he is in his studies, he may want to finish a degree.

Let me rephrase...MGoBloggers: You can be a dick, but only if it's warranted, and only if it makes me laugh.

09/12/2018 - 12:18pm Can we lose to Wisconsin and…

Can we lose to Wisconsin and still get in the playoff?

  • Loss to ND on the road in the first game of the season
  • Loss to Wisconsin (Obviously, win and we don't have this discussion, I know. But it might take half a season to get the team to gel against good teams.)
  • We go undefeated in our division
  • Beat Wisconsin in the B1G Championship game to somewhat make up for the early loss
  • 11-2 seems a little more like 10-1-1 once you consider the win and loss to the Badgers

Is it likely? Probably not, but I think if a team were to get in the playoff with 2 losses, it's a team with Michigan's schedule who made up for an early loss.

With that said...beat the Badgers!

09/12/2018 - 12:09pm Hell, if we lose to…

Hell, if we lose to Wisconsin we still might have a chance. Imagine we go undefeated in our division and beat Wisconsin in the championship game. The win and the loss against the Badgers would, in a way, cancel each other out.

If a team that gets into the playoffs with 2 losses, it's a team with Michigan's schedule that made up for an early loss. We're kind of lucky that ND and Wisconsin are earlier in the season. If it takes half a season for this team to get in a groove with a new QB, possibly young LT's working their way into the lineup, and a newish system, we have an opportunity to make up for it in our division and in the B1G Championship.

With that said, I really hope we beat the Badgers.

And find a way to have point totals mean anything at all.

09/03/2018 - 2:51pm I am in no way an expert,…

I am in no way an expert, but here here was my simple observation.

1 point for every missed block, or every time they got beat on a block:

  • Runyan - 7
  • Bredeson - 0
  • Ruiz - 2
  • Onwenu - 2
  • JBB - 3

I was impressed with JBB for the most part when comparing his play to last year. We might have a problem with Runyan.

09/03/2018 - 2:05pm I thought he played well,…

I thought he played well, all things considered. My only critiques:

  • He ran outside of the pocket early a couple of times when stepping up in the pocket or waiting a little bit longer could've been more effective.
  • Running out of field goal range. I expected some of this from him looking at his tape from Ole Miss. Hopefully we can minimize this kind of play going forward.
  • Sense of urgency in clutch moments. He was driving the field well after the ball was snapped, but he was far too relaxed before the snap. Every second counts in those crucial moments.

Other than those three things, I really liked what I saw.

  • He hit Nico on the 52 yard bomb, which was refreshing as a Michigan fan. Sure, it wasn't in stride, but Nico had a chance and made the catch.
  • He was quick and decisive after the snap. Seemed to make good reads.
  • Extended plays. When he's not running backwards out of field goal range, he was extending plays and giving the receivers extra time to get open.

It should be fun to watch this team over the next couple of weeks. Hopefully they find an offensive rhythm against WMU, SMU, and Nebraska. After that, the only other cakewalks are Rutgers and Indiana. Northwestern is always tough at their house, and Maryland surprised me this Saturday. I don't need to bring up the other games on the schedule.

Let's just hope the team takes it one game at a time.

Please remind me, how awesome were Jehu and Amara as true sophomores? I can't seem to find any highlights during that time. Weird.

09/02/2018 - 1:18pm Some positive notes

Georgia…

Some positive notes

  • Georgia barely made it out alive in this game last year. Different team, I know, but the defense is pretty much the same.
  • If it weren't for some perfectly executed 50/50 balls, this game looks different. Admittedly, this is getting old. We were in good position on so many of these, so we are due for a less than perfect throw from the opposing QB. ANY TIME NOW.
  • If it weren't for some penalties at crucial moments, the game is completely different. Discipline issue? Maybe. Questionable calls? The Winovich late hit was weak IMO, but the others were good calls. Was the team a little too amped up and let their excitement of the first game on the road at night against a ranked opponent get the better of them?? Probably.
  • When the offensive line gave Shea time, he threw on target. My mind immediately goes to the 50 yard Nico Collins play. I'm hoping the O-line can get in a rhythm over the next couple of easier games. Northwestern and Maryland might not be as easy as people are thinking though..
  • This is probably the second best D-line we face all year. Hopefully we figure the shit out before Wisconsin.
  • The team got stronger as the game went on, which is something we didn't see last year.
  • If we are going to lose a game, it should be in the first game of the year to a ranked team on the road at night.
  • Really unlikely, yet positive(?) scenario: If it does take half a season to figure this team out, and we end up losing to Wisconsin, we would still have a chance to run the table from there and win the B1G. If that happens, and we beat Wisconsin the second time around in the championship game, we will likely be the first 2 loss team accepted in the playoff.

I'll copy and paste what I posted in another thread. It's not exactly answering your question, but a similar topic.

Three missed interception opportunities:

  1. Lavert Hill on the second play of the game. He's in great position, but he seems to let the ball come to his as opposed to going and snagging it. That drive led to a TD.
  2. Brad Hawkins on the long TD pass. Filling in for Metellus, he's also in great position, but doesn't use his size/leaping ability to his advantage.
  3. Brad Hawkins again on the overthrown screen. This would've been a tough catch, but I see other teams make these plays all the time. It's been a while since I've seen our defense make an interception that wasn't handed to them. That would have put us at the 50 yard line with a minute to go in the half.

Still, it's a new QB and a revamped offense. Plus, ND might be a better team than Utah in 2015. I'm not saying Harbaugh is perfect, but he is the best we are going to get and it's not even close. Shitty luck and some small mistakes that cost him big have been the story of his failures.

I also noticed Marshall and Mone played the majority of the inside snaps. I'm guessing it's to offset the bigger O-line, but it still comes as a surprise.

09/02/2018 - 11:00am Last night was exactly like…

Last night was exactly like the Utah game:

  • New transfer QB playing first game at night on the road
  • Playing against a big, mobile QB
  • Home team gets ahead by 2 scores, Michigan plays catch up
  • Stupid mistakes here and there that seemed to cost us the game (Miscommunication between Rudock & Perry vs. crucial penalties against ND)
  • Shows promise towards the end, but it's too little to late

I'm not in a "the sky is falling" mood. I'm not happy, but I still have plenty of hope for this season. Put MSU or PSU in the same game, and it doesn't look all that great for them. It's really starting to feel like our fans and the media "experts" are going to push Harbaugh out of Ann Arbor.

For the people who view everything as black and white, and decide to disregard any sort of context or perspective, I understand the reaction. But those people need to take a break from following this team. It's putting an unnecessary amount of pressure on the team and the coaches. If this keeps up, we will have another Brady Hoke, or another Rich Rod on the sidelines sooner rather than later.

I jumped on that line. They've only beaten 1 FBS team by more than 24 points this decade in the first game.

I'm glad I'm not alone here. I didn't think it was a great article or anything, but it certainly wasn't painting the program or Harbaugh in a negative light. If anything, I think the writer suggest that this year will be a big year for UM.

Suggesting that based on the fact that Harbaugh has smiled and grinned more as of late may be a little stupid, but I don't get the hate from OP.

(Admittedly replying to the top comment so this can be seen)

Could we do an All-Personality team? I've only been a hard core fan for the last 10 years, so I'm limited.

QB - Devin Gardner/Jake Rudock

RB - Karan Higdon/Vincent Smith

WR - Junior Hemmingway/Roy Roundtree/Desmond Howard

TE - Zach Gentry/Jake Butt

OL - Grant Newsome/Cesar Ruiz/Graham Glasgow/David Molk

DL - Rashan Gary/Chase Winovich/Brandon Graham/Mo Hurst

LB - Jabrill Peppers/Dhani Jones

DB - Charles Woodson/Jourden Lewis

K - Quinn Nordin

P - Zoltan Mesko

(Edit: I'm at work, so I didn't put a boatload of though into this so I'm sure I missed a lot of great personalities.)

Meanwhile, that ball spinning thing happens in almost every CFB game and is almost never called. I'm guessing they called it on Perry because it happened right in front of the ref.

I'm so excited for this kid to put on the Maize and Blue uniform, but he better get those unsportsmanlike penalties out of the way before he gets here.

I was absent from the board during the Kickstarter (for the most part), so I ended up buying a copy afterword. I received my digital copy immediately and my HTTV hard copy came within 2 weeks. I’m surprised people are still waiting.

Maybe it’s because I live in Florida?

08/16/2018 - 10:49am I tend to agree with both of…

I tend to agree with both of you to a certain extent, but I wouldn't say that 2015 Utah is a worse team than 2018 ND. We obviously don't know about ND yet, but they lost a bunch of talent from a team that went 10-3 last year. You could reasonably see them have the same record this year, but I would project 8-9 wins instead of 10. Utah in 2015 went 10-3 and (if I'm remembering correctly) was ranked in the top 3 at one point that year.

Harbaugh's first game as Michigan head coach vs. year 4 first game with this loaded roster? I like Michigan in a 13-21 kind of game. I think it's a close game due to an early interception from Shea (it's tradition to throw at least one in the first game of the year: Rudock 2015 - Threw 2; Speight 2016 - First pass was an int; Speight 2017 - two pick 6's).
