I do indeed. Also the volleyball staff referring to us as "assholes, but OUR assholes", eights and more eights, pizza parties with the team, the list goes on. V-ball at CK was by far the best low-cost event on campus in my book.

That's what I was hoping too. Big congats to Denard, but it would have been fun to see him play in the Philly offense.

I think it just depends on the flavor of fantasy or sci-fi you prefer. My favorite was the WH warband spinoff Mordheim myself.

9 weeks 6 days ago It was all house money after

It was all house money after Michigan pulled off the 0.6% chance they had of defeating Kansas and moving on. To get to the NC game was really special, and while it hurts to lose, this team righted the ship, set it on fire, and didn;t look back. Michigan has a real basketball program again, and losing to the #1 overall seed is nothing to hang your head about. Go Blue!

I did not see that one coming. Good job by Hoke, great news for us!

25 weeks 6 days ago I always hoped we could do

I always hoped we could do better than "at least our helmet is not a shitstain". The issue is, people already own our traditional jerseys, and the only time they buy new ones is when there is a new player they can get. Well, new players come along too slowly, but Adidas can crap one of these jerseys out in a second and DB can sell a stack of them for fat profit even if it looks terrible. People want to be part of the fan experience and for a lot of them it means buying a horrible jersey they have a 50ish% of always relating to a defeat.

Does anyone look at the jersey they bought for the Alabama game and think "Man, this jersey not only looks great, but it reminds me of our awesome game against 'Bama!"

I guess I am used to the idea of Bama winning. If both teams can't be destroyed, I'd prefer ND to lose so i can keep making "return to glory" jokes.

The qb is not the problem. Vandenberg threw for 3000yards and 25/7 tds to INTs last year. Ferentz and Davis turned him into a pathetic wash up this season.

Sorry double post

29 weeks 3 days ago That was a pretty pathetic

That was a pretty pathetic showing. I struggle to understand what exactly Ferentz and the coaching staff did to turn Vandenberg into a totally useless qb in just one offseason. Iowa looked lacksadaisical, like they were looking forward to the end.

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been able to see so many of these great plays live and in-person, even though the gtaduating seniors started the year after I completed undergrad. Looking forward to seeing them one last time tomorrow in the Big House. Go Blue!

I didn't know, but maybe I should have, that the Valenti rant was widely known outside of the ND and MSU fans who are (more) directly involved, and schadenfreude-loving UM fans. I'm glad it's bringing joy to non-Spartans across the nation.

33 weeks 5 days ago Band Director Foobaw Knowledge

Oops, I replied to the wrong comment below. I think the key difference between the two directors is football knowledge.

Speaking as someone who played for three years under Nix and one with Boerma, I think Boerma's focus is on creating a fine musical performance, but doesn't understand football especially well.

Nix really loved and understood football. His understanding was that our job was to rile up the crowd and help our team win. We may not have played at a symphonic band level, but we were loud enough to hear and the performances had a lot of spirit. He called for us to play the right songs at the right times, held us from playing temptation if it was clear the opposing team was going for it on 4th down, etc.

I loved all four years in the MMB, and I have a healthy respect for both directors. However, I really believe today's band could use some of the push-the-team-on-to-victory spirit of the Nix days, even if the cost is a little bit of the musical proficiency.

33 weeks 5 days ago People also forget the

People also forget the awesome Monty Python and the Holy Grail show we did.

The biggest difference between the band now under Boerma and before under Nix (imo) is that Nix understood the game of football better and knew what songs to play and the right times to play them. There also was a greater emphasis on volume, which I think is lackign these days. Good intonation is nice, but if no one can hear it, who cares? I'm not saying turn into UW's band and just blast away drunkenly at all times, but some volume to get more fans involved would be nice. It makes me sad when I'm in the stands and can;t really hear the band.

It's gotta be JV tonight. We need a shutdown performance so that we can build a lead that not even the Big Potato can hand over. Can Al-Al close out the game? I haven't been happy with Benoit or Valverde lately.
