Michigan doesn't make top 5 for 2023 4* Jyaire Hill (????)

This makes it seem like he is guaranteed to pull some sort of Michigan gear out of somewhere at his announcement and end up with the good guys

one thing to remember is that teams have their own "board" and recruiting-ranking services have their own "board"

when these kids get gassed up into the recruiting-sites higher-rankings, that doesn't inherently mean that any given coach/program feels the same way (padless camps are a great way to show how fast/talented you are when it comes to playing padless and at a camp)

and now with the NIL, recruits might feel their "stock has gone up", but, again, coaches have their own boards (let alone "needs", "priority", "fit", "reaches", etc.)

do i know that that's the case here? not at all, i have no clue. but i assure you there's a lot more (and less) going on with coaches/recruits/programs than what social media/pundits portray (otherwise we'd all be crypto bajillionaires and i'd be trying to charter an expedition to explore far beyond the gigantic ice wall that apparently surrounds us all 😎)

He was interested in Illinois and the D Coordinator went to Purdue so that may be where they came from. On UK and Missouri I have no idea. 

Assume Purdue made the cut since Illinois was in contention and the DC (Ryan Walters) left and became the head coach for the Boilermakers. 
 

But you what they say about assumptions, they’re like assholes and everyone has one 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sam Webb has mentioned multiple times while talking about this kid that sometimes the lights are too bright at a place like Michigan and a kid just isn't comfortable playing in front of 107,601 people and all that goes with it. He's said it often enough to suggest to me that's part of the hangup.

One of the main reasons he liked Illinois is Ryan Walters, now the HC at Purdue.

Sam said on the 247 board that this was a head fake and that all the sources he's hearing from around Hill are still saying it's Michigan.
