I mean.. Michigan stuck with…

I mean.. Michigan stuck with him after the terrible Covid year when people wanted him gone. He had a bad reputation in the league from his time in San Fran and was regarded as a guy who couldn’t last more than a few years in a single organization due to bumping heads with his superiors. Michigan helped him rehab that image. And he tried to leave the previous 2 years. Michigan watched him do his thing and welcomed him back with open arms. His time here will likely define his coaching legacy. To say he owes Michigan NOTHING is really just not true.

I have season tickets for…

I have season tickets for football and basketball and at both I sit next to season ticket holders who have never used the seats. At least the football market is crazy enough that it is usually M fans, but the only time the basketball tickets have sold all season has been to away fans. I had to sit next to some 20 year old bro from CMU who screamed in my face the entire game while I said absolutely 0 to him. A giant F you to whoever buys the seats next to me. Having complained a few times I can tell you the athletic department could not care less and has no plans to even think of ways to enforce attendance. As long as they get their $ at the end of the day they have no incentive to do otherwise.

I just don’t see a single…

I just don’t see a single SEC team going for this. Nor other conferences with teams who have been busted on FBI wire taps with 0 repercussions. Why would they want to agree to a set of rules when the current set is a rules for thee but not for me free-for-all.

Have to imagine this is what Ono meeting with Manuel next is going to look like.

Crispin somehow is the most annoying assclown I’ve ever heard call a basketball game.

Not only was Weddle out of the game for 2 years, dude tore his pec in the first half and put on a brace and logged every single defensive snap.

It takes 0 extra time. The biggest slow down is the switch to electronic tickets and getting those scanned in. The vaccine card check happens while waiting in line to get to a ticket scanner. It is like going to a bar worrying about your age passport. It is going to take you a couple seconds for them to check your ID as you walk in the door. The real wait is the line at the bar.

Oh man. Also overhyped as…

Oh man. Also overhyped as hell is Elmer T Lee. Had it at the last word in Ann Arbor and it was probably the most underwhelming bourbon I have had to date for the hype. I would probably buy it at MSRP, but that bottle goes for hundreds in the secondary market which is insane to me.

Best Bourbon for the $$…

Best Bourbon for the $$ Early Times Bottled in bond- wasn’t a huge fan when I first tried it but man has it grown on me. And under $25 for a liter is crazy.

Most Underrated Bourbon: Stellum Rye- fantastic and readily available. One of my favorite pours and I can walk into total wine and they have 20 bottles on the shelf. Honorable mention to the redwood empire offerings.

Most Overhyped: Henry McKenna bottled in bond. It’s good. But while it was a value around $30 just a couple years ago, it’s not worth the $70-80 you find it for now.

You cannot have a consensual…

You cannot have a consensual relationship when the power dynamic is clearly skewed to one individual. Maybe they would have bumped into each other in a coffee shop and hit it off anyways. But you can never know that when both parties know that if she makes a wrong move, he can just fire her and replace her.

The reason for the policy is…

The reason for the policy is not to prevent two adults from having a consensual relationship. The point is that you cannot have a consensual relationship when the power dynamic is clearly skewed to one individual. Maybe they would have bumped into each other in a coffee shop and hit it off anyways. But you can never know that when both parties know that if she makes a wrong move, he can just fire her and replace her. The fact that the entire set of emails show HIM constantly reaching out to her and turning normal daily emails into flirting makes this even more clear.

You think that the John who…

You think that the John who signed a contract extension like yesterday is on the hot seat?

Make an online reservation…

Make an online reservation at Jim Brady’s and request to be on the second floor. Tons of TVs.

Not at all correct. There is…

Not at all correct. There is no “recent alumni” section. As an alum who bought tickets, no corner was less favorable. And after spending our first 3 years on the opposite side, we recently moved to that area. They’re all the same. Same amount of secondary ticket sales. Same amount of arguing about sitting vs standing for games.

Bingo. THIS is the major…

Bingo. THIS is the major distinction. While neither violates NCAA’s new rules of “I guess just do whatever,” the network of back channel payments is still federally illegal because the money flows through a non-profit or is just handed in bags of cash and neither side is paying taxes. I would think it’s pretty easy to recruit against that by telling a kid look, give us a number and we will see what we can do with endorsement deals, but for your sake, don’t take an illegal handoff when you can now afford to do it legally..

I saw that as well and it…

I saw that as well and it appears correct that they scrapped all food court plans. Sounded like local restaurants will try to have pop up food offerings in front of their restaurant. But yeah, I’m going to miss my yearly corn dog and funnel cake.

Lots of people go to college for 7 years!
I know, they're called doctors.

You are reaching on point 2…

You are reaching on point 2. If anything, I think it shows MORE maturity. He can either be coached by his dad and be under the constant microscope of his family, or go to Virginia or Duke and pretend to play school and party. Is Jace immature because he plays for his dad..

Your last point just isn’t…

Your last point just isn’t true. There’s no head to head studies yet, but unless covid put you in the hospital, you’re most likely NOT more protected from reinfection than the vaccine. The vaccines overload your system to generate a ton of antibodies. Said this above, but particularly in Pfizer and moderna, you get tons more spike protein antibodies than you get from a normal infection. And this is what actually helps against the variants. Even though variants like the one from the UK have changes in the spike protein, the vaccine overloads you with enough antibodies to fight this.

His immunity is LESS than…

His immunity is LESS than what the vaccines provide. The vaccines work because they overload you with antibodies. Particularly the moderna and Pfizer vaccines that target the spike protein of covid give you tons more mRNA against that one specific piece of the virus than you would ever get from a normal infection. That’s also why they are pretty effective against the variants. Even though they’re sub-optimal, there’s so much of a reaction that it still works. People who had covid early in the pandemic are at a much greater risk of getting sick again with say the UK variant than someone who never had covid but has the vaccine.

I googled his name an hour after the segment and his twitter said he was announcing his transfer in like 2 hours.

I can’t find it now, but I’m…

I can’t find it now, but I’m ESPNs article on coaches taking pay cuts (Harbaugh and Howard took a 10% cut) they had a table that also showed the % of university funds that go to the athletic department. Their updated article I don’t see this table. Anyways, for U of M it listed 0.1% of the athletic budget coming from the university. So it’s not 0, but it’s close.

What’s ironic is that their “pathologically lying leader” is not actually their leader, nor do they care about him. Those guys don’t vote. At least they stop voting once Chester the gun store clerk loses the nomination.

You would be incorrect…

You would be incorrect. Asymptomatic people can have lungs as bad as someone with walking pneumonia and we have no idea how this will resolve. I post the NPR link and not nature medicine because I assume not everyone has access to the actual article (which is linked in the npr article.)

I mean, they effectively…

I mean, they effectively dont have a deadline. The deadline is extended indefinitely. But I think the point of keeping it labeled a deadline is you will need to make a decision- pay lump sum or installments- before tickets will be released to you.

It is not just about being…

It is not just about being around spring break. They have this set to run through April 20th. I am sure a week of spring break helps, but they are still shutting down in-person everything for over a month. I know someone who was supposed to visit to give a seminar who was told they will have to reschedule after April 20th. Which also implies that faculty won't even be around a lot of this period.

People need to realize this…

People need to realize this is not about trying to prevent people in low risk groups from getting the flu. It is about people from low risk groups not unintentionally spreading the flu TO the higher risk groups.

I am a cell biologist, not a…

I am a cell biologist, not a virologist. But that still qualifies me more than most.

It is way too early to tell the full impact this is going to have. The death rate so far in the US is super high, like in the teens percent wise. But this is probably because only people with really bad symptoms and outcome actually get tested for it. There are probably a ton of people who have/had it who are untested. Even if this death rate drops to the actual level, this is probably going to be much worse than the flu. And it is already here. It is going to happen, just a matter of when.

It will probably be mostly contained through the summer. Look at the flu season and how it aligns with winter and when it spreads most rapidly. The real issue could be the start of next winter if we don't get hit right away. So just because July everything looks fine, does not mean that it is over.

Pro and con- kids seem to be totally fine through this. I don't think there are any kids who have died of this. It seems to be really well tolerated in young people. And that is where we get to the con.. Kids can get it and display no symptoms. So down the road your child goes to daycare, and soon after you are sick and don't understand why.

A vaccine is probably more than a year away. So don't plan on that bailing us out. It is here. It is going to hit. Wash your hands and make your pigpen kids do the same.

3 weeks ago I was sure we…

3 weeks ago I was sure we would miss the tournament. But it had nothing to do with Howard, and everything to do with thinking our best player was done for the year. Hell, the last time we had such a bizarre and unknown injury was Caris, and he did not come back. So history should have assured me we were boned.

I guess I can kind of see a little of the Beilein team coming into form with the emergence of Davis and Johns as huge bench assets. But I still think without Livers, we are closer to the outside of the tourney than a 5 seed. Even a game like Rutgers that we won without him, I don't know that it plays the same way if he never comes back to energize the team.

I don't think it is because the post is "offensive." It is because it is like the 4th post on this that has no additional substantive information. This could have just been a comment in any of the other threads. And with the aforementioned lack of mods, the board gets jammed with unnecessary additional threads. Like when someone posted OT: Tragic news like 5 minutes after the original post and it sat on the board for a full day before someone bothered to delete the redundant thread.

Cant speak for the last one but this one was probably warranted. They asked about him being named special teams player of the week. So his name wasnt pulled out of nowhere. And I could see them wondering what a long snapper shows to win that distinction. Ambry on defense was clear. And hayes as a freshman in his first start is pretty clear.

There is parking available in all of the public lots now that all of the students are gone for the summer. The biggest hurdle now is the construction everywhere that keeps traffic the same. They tore up half the roads the second the students were gone...
