Urban to USC looking strong

1. Urban hasn’t commented about USC job despite huge noise.

2. Shadow twitter account proclaiming his innocence/ virtues as usc candidate: he was theIt first follower. It is suspected to be a family member running it.

3. Previous relationship with new AD Bohn.

4. And the kicker: https://mobile.twitter.com/keelyismyname/status/1192514314306899970?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2F247sports.com%2Fcollege%2Fusc%2FBoard%2FThe-Peristyle-102339%2F

Eh, who is there to take?  Day's existence means the offense will be fine even if Urban hired Kevin Wilson.  Yurcich is a Day hire and would almost certainly stay as the full OC if Wilson left.  So a Day/Yurcich combo would be just fine.

And Hafley and Mattison were Day hires as well.  Can't imagine either of them leaving for USC.

Day has done a very good job of hiring his staff.  And even if one or two left, no reason to think he wouldn't replace them with equally good hires.

Curious about Ryan Day's aspirations. He's already on NFL shortlists, I would imagine. Obviously he could probably have a long run at Ohio State if he wants it, but before Urban hired him he had no ties to the school. I think college football is going to go through a very weird and murky transition in next 5 years with UIL, etc. I think a lot of coaches are going to find it not worth the headaches.

Welp... There goes California recruiting. It was already hard enough fending off downtrodden USC, Stanford (come on Myles!!!!) and UCLA...

Hopefully Helton wins out and wins the Pac12. Then they can't fire him.

Should also add:

USC insiders saying talks have been going on for a while

Their entire 247 board is of the opinion "when not if"

The only hold up seemed to be USC president saying no

The rumored delay for the announcement of AD Bohn was that he would walk if not allowed to hire Urban. His quote today on it: Bohn acknowledged the delay and said it was because they had to make sure they "were aligned"

Urban has been rumored to have recently purchased a house in Manhattan Beach (ya, he films there now but still)

On another note: USC plays Bama first game of next season(!)

Someone want to try explaining how all of this adds up to "Urban to USC looking strong"?  All I got from the OP was something about a possible shadow twitter account, that might be ran by a family friend, and a link to a Twitter post that didn't really provide anything of substance.

Reportedly the new AD was going to back out of the job if he wasn’t allowed to hire Urban. The school President basically just said he can hire whoever he wants. So he’s definitely going after Meyer. Urban leaving OSU was more about the handling of the Zach Smith situation than it was his health.  This may not add up to being strong, but there’s definitely smoke.

Most Ohio State fans are expecting Urban to get back into coaching after a year or two off, but USC seems like such a stretch.

I believe that USC would have to offer Urban literally the largest contract of his career ($7+ million/year) to get his attention.

Otherwise, Urban is pretty rooted in Ohio right now. Both of his daughters have settled in Columbus, and the younger one just had Urban's 3rd grandchild. Urban is opening a new restaurant in Columbus. Shelley and Urban's charity organization that they started is based out of Ohio State and their medical center. Plus, Urban's youngest child, his son Nathan Meyer is a sophomore on the UC Bearcats baseball team in Cincinnati.

If Urban takes a new job, I personally believe it'll be a position within a reasonable traveling distance to Ohio (i.e. Notre Dame? Cincinnati Bengals? Cleveland Browns?)

Urban does have a lot of respect for the "blue-bloods" of American Football, which is why he said he wouldn't rule out coaching the Dallas Cowboys if approached... He probably dreams about the chance to coach "America's Team."

$7 + million dollars a year seems very doable for USC.

You seem to buy into the whole Urbz family thing.  That was the reason given for leaving coaching at Florida (more time with family) yet a year later he is back coaching.  Realistically, how how time does a college coach spend with his family?  This IMHO is mostly eindiw dressing.

With respect to staying within reasonable travel distance, it doesn't seem like a distance thing but a time thing.  Consider that Cincinati or Cleveland is around 2 hour drive to Columbus.  LA to columbus is like a 4 hour flight.  Given the money involved private jets are certainly within the realm of possibility, which functionally mean LA is not really that much further away.

As far as the restaurant, it will be interesting to see how much OSU fans still love Urbz if he takes another coaching job (especially in college).  I gotta believe the restaurant depend pretty heavily on that love.

Would be pretty easy to set up a new charity foundation not tied to OSU.

That is, with a little negotiation you the issue you bring up are fairly easily addressed.
