Michigan Football Season Tix Renewal: Deadline Extended...again
All.
I just got the email from the AD stating that the June 1 football season ticket renewal deadline has been extended indefinitely "until we have further direction on the season".
Good move in my opinion since I was kinda feeling pressured to renew by June 1 even though the fate of the season had not been determined. I know they would have refunded me anyway, but still.
I was happy to see this. I was going to do the three phase payment plan, but happy not to have to put my money out at this point. I kind of read into this to expect that there will be reduced capacity, but that might have been over thinking it. Will be fascinating to see who gets in if that is the case.
key quote here: With the many variables that remain out of our control, the June 1 season ticket renewal deadline is being extended indefinitely until we have further direction on the season. There are several entities that will determine the details of the season, including the Big Ten Conference, campus leadership, medical experts, and state/local government officials. As soon as a decision has been made we will communicate that information. We will not be releasing any unpaid season tickets until we have details on the 2020 football season. If a decision is made for the 2020 season to continue in a normal manner, and your account has a balance, we will provide you with ample notification to pay your balance before releasing your tickets.
sounds like they are doing everything they can to accommodate choices by fans, held by entities beyond their control.
Xtra, hope all is well. There will be a modified season. 20-50% capacity.
When you say “modified season”, are you referring to the seating capacity only or the schedule as well? Any chance you can expand on what you’ve been hearing?
hey! where you been?! how are you and your peeps doing during this craziness? i missed hooking up with you last season and obviously don't know how this will all work out this year, but its still a goal of mine to have a great dinner and an adult beverage with you at some point.
I hope you're right. I spoke to a former MAC coach last night. I asked him about how he thought schools would handle seating and he cut me off and asked a question that schools will have to deal with. "What happens when a player is diagnosed with Covid?" Have you heard anything about Michigan's plans for that possibility?
It sounds problematic. Current CDC guidelines would keep a lot of teammates and staff home for two weeks and maybe their last opponents too. Sadly, it seems almost inevitable that a number of schools will have players who become infected during the season.
Already made my first installment without reconsideration. GO BLUE!!!
I think we have a lot of msu types at our school. 500 bucks really. Sad.
Why have a deadline? Just say we are working on details and will let you know once a decision has been made.
I mean, they effectively dont have a deadline. The deadline is extended indefinitely. But I think the point of keeping it labeled a deadline is you will need to make a decision- pay lump sum or installments- before tickets will be released to you.
I renewed my couch seat months ago.
vlady, regret to inform you that the neighbors upgraded to your couch. your new seats are in the kitchen, obstructed view.
sincerely,
U of M ticket dept.
Really Just pay. What's the downside for supporting your school. Need cheap tiks for a big game.
Yeah it’s totally that simple
>$1,000.00 is a lot of money to some people, especially now. How about you just pay for my tickets since money isn't an issue. What's the downside?
Jackass.
The money we pay for season tickets (unless you have club or box seats) is just extra pocket change for the Athletic Department, and they charge according to supply and demand. The real money comes from TV and apparel deals.
I'm guessing the actual numbers are available on line somewhere, but even if you guess that the average seat price is $100, that works out to $10-11 million/game. x that by 7 and you are close to $80 million. throw in seat license fees and that's got to be what, $20 million? now add concessions, for which i have nothing other than a wild guess, but how about around 3/4 million net revenue per game?
tix: $ 75 million
license: $ 20 million
concessions: $ 5 million (makes addition easier)
total revenue from only the games (no TV $) is around $100 million. so the games themselves are kind of a big deal. now add a pro-rata $20 million from shoes and $60 million from TV and that would seem to = the athletic dept. budget.
somebody please check my math, and apologies in advance if i have made one or more boo-boos.
Well, all I know is that everytime I complain about season ticket price increases, people on this blog make it abundantly clear that my money has no real meaning to the AD, so I'm not sure what to believe anymore.
From a "modified season" and seating capacity standpoint, it will be interesting to see if there are any Covid spikes in the riot areas (Minneapolis, Atlanta, etc...), where people are huffing and puffing and screaming without distancing.
Michigan FB season ticket costs are ludicrous...hate to say it but hope their sales tank to prompt them into rethinking some of their pricing policies.
