OT - Go Nebraska! Beat the Buffs

Submitted by trueblue262 on September 6th, 2023 at 9:16 AM

I'm sure there are others feeling the same way, but the last few days of Primetime interviews and press conferences has been a bit much. The way he handled the transition in Boulder, theres no possible way that he didnt think there were going to be some "non believers". Going through his press conference and not taking questions from media people that "doubted" him?? telling everybody he has receipts......I know its unlikely , but I hope Nebraska beats their ass this week just so we dont have to go through another week of this crap. Anybody else out there sick of the "prime theatre"?

I want Nebraska to pummel the shit out of Colorado for 2 reasons (and for one of the reasons, you all should too!)

1) I don't mind that he is a cocky arrogant prick (you can tell im lying, right?), but i cannot stand the relentless non-stop media attention he is getting.  This is EXACTLY what he wanted.

2) You don't wan the Big Ten losing OOC games.  It hurts Michigan.  You want the Big Ten teams ranked as high as possible. (ok, i am kind of lying again.  Every team except OSU and MSU must win)

But Nebraska?  Yes, we should want Nebraska to beat Colorado by 100.

I'm quite the contrary...Go Buffs!  I think Deion is a breath of fresh air and wish him success.  I'd love to see him beat the snot out of Saban, Kirby or Kelly at some point.

I like Colorado. Have since the early 90’s. Uniforms were always great looking to me.

Deion can coach. He turned Jackson State around and he is doing the same at CU. I suspect that they will be closer to 7-5 than 12-0, but that is a heck of an improvement either way.

The new Spurrier. He gives the game spice that it needs.

I really don’t understand all the hate, nor why it needs to be incessantly shared. Do we really need a post a week about this? Would you really rather hear another we played hard, they played hard in a monotone voice? They are plenty of other coaches more deserving of ire that no one seems to care about.

The hype machine is a bit much, but I give him a lot of credit for what he is doing. I thought they would be improved but lose to TCU. Now I could see them going somewhere around 8-5? Will be interesting to watch. At least it’s not another SEC school

I do not have a horse in the race.   And, am neutral about Coach Prime and Colorado.   I did - and still do - feel that he recruited / brought talent to Jackson State that was lower level P5 caliber / volume and competed against FCS schools.  So, there was a decided talent advantage that Jackson State had.

Colorado, IMO, will not have a talent advantage this season when Pac-12 conference games begin.  Perhaps he'll be stronger / deeper talent wise than a few Pac-12 teams, like California - but, not when they face Utah, Oregon, USC, etc.

The question is my mind is - how effective of an in-game coach is he and his staff.   We're one game into the season - and, the result surprised me.  I thought TCU would win - but, as others point out - TCU lost a lot of talent to the NFL after last season.

One game is in the books - it couldn't have been a better start for the Buffs / Deion.  We'll see how it continues.

And - I've been very busy with the long weekend in Ann Arbor - visiting the kids - going to great spots in southeast Michigan with friends - that I haven't seen any press conferences and very few comments about that game or Colorado's performance.

It would seem that there will be even more eyes on Boulder this weekend - and, an opportunity for Nebraska to get some attention too.   What will happen?

Getting that talent to Jackson State though, is the game. I'm not Ari Wasserman - there are things other than stars that matter. But stars don't NOT matter. And CU's talent composite has jumped from 63rd in the nation last year - the bottom of the Pac12 - to 35th, right in the center of the league.

That's not the whole game - Texas A&M exists, Oregon St is a contender for the league. Memorably, Michigan has beaten Ohio State and also TCU has beaten Michigan. But recruiting is an important job so I don't think it's a knock to say "he just had better talent." It may not be the whole game, but it's a major part of it.

I wouldnt want the Michigan coach to be like Prime but love that he exists in this space.  He's about flash, true.  But he's also about responsibility, hard work, etc.  (the man suspended his own son from  a championship game for being late).

I was sick of Prime before he even became the Colorado coach, but I can’t act like what just happened against TCU wasn’t pretty impressive for sure and that his son and Travis Hunter are GREAT players. We will see if they can keep up the success. With the overall lack of defense in the PAC12 and not having Washington on the schedule they might go bowling this year

Rooting for Coach Prime-  His story is much more interesting than most.  I'm a free speech guy and it's even better that he's backing up his words with success.

I'm a bit anti-Nebraska because they employed Scott Frost.

He's a big talker and cuts through the "school" bullshit. he's there to win and doesnt care whose feelings he hurts along the way.

I don't like him and I don't like his style, but you can't argue with success. You may not like how he did it, but his way worked for 1 week at least.

When teams start to get tape and game plan for the 2-3 elite players he has, then I'll be curious to see what Deion does to adjust, short of putting on a helmet himself.

If he gets to a bowl game this year, its a W for him. Getting from 6 to 10 wins will be easy for him. Getting to elite status and trying to with National titles? That's a tough road that only a few have figured out.

I for one and rooting for Prime. Maybe it's just me but I love when someone is able to back up their talk. He's doing that and I'm cool with it.

this goes to everyone complaining

you can change the channel and not watch bro

no one is forcing you to watch his press conferences or any news stories about him or Colorado.

it is entirely your fault you are upset about anything that has to do with Coach Prime or Colorado, as it’s 100% possible to know virtually nothing about Colorado, the coach, how he built the roster, etc.

Before the season started I didn’t think he’d see much success this year but I may need to eat crow.

TCU isn’t even close to the same team that played Georgia, but it was an impressive road win to start the season for the Buffs regardless.

I don’t pay attention to the talking heads on espn or wherever you’re getting your information from, but you might consider taking a short break.

We’ll learn a lot when they play Nebraska on Saturday, I know I’ll be watching:

Sanders won at the HBCU and beat TCU when no one thought it was possible. At some point you've gotta admit that he can recruit like no one else, that he hires good coaches, and that he himself is a damn good coach to jell that as quickly as he has twice. You don't have to be a Coach Prime fanboy to admit this. I'm not--he played for the Cowboys and the Niners and I'm Giants fan. I hate both teams like a sickness. But you can still respect the game he brings. Dude backs up his talk. Much respect. CU is going to clobber Nebraska. And I would never root for Nebraska under any circumstance. Okay, if the match-up is Nebraska vs. Hitler, I'm rooting for Nebraska. Other than that, hell no.

I just haven't seen anything about colorado football besides some headlines i scrolled past on my news feed.  Nebraska can lose all the games to all the coaches, it wouldn't bother me in the least, have plenty of reasons dating back to 1997 to root against them.

I think the win was kinda funny as is Primetime talking smack....   i still think the buffs will finish 6-6 at best.  TCU isn't good and there was no film on CO.   It will be really funny if CO beats NE this weekend then CSU after that, Prime will be over the top obnoxious and all the media talking heads will be jumping on the CO bandwagon only to watch them drop 6 of the next 9.

Booted Blue in PA

September 8th, 2023 at 9:47 AM ^

the word overrated doesn't even appear in my comment

there isn't a fanbase in existance that is hoping to end the season with 2 or 3 wins.   6-6 is a huge improvement from a 1 win season...

mel tucker had a great first season with a bunch of transfers players too and its not gone quite as well since.

Primetime had great success in JSU, largely becaues he was recruiting talent that could have been playing elsewhere.  He isn't going to have a talent advantage in the B12.  I don't think he'll be much over .500 at CU, no matter how long he's there.

He's just a thing to give sports center to talk about. Imagine directing that show. You've got highlights, and you've got "stories" to cover. Highlights are essentially just video proof of the stats everyone can see in real time. A few rise up to be worthy of our eyeballs, but we probably already saw them on social media. But "stories" are important. The play at ESPN is to demonize him, have a panel of people who like and dislike him and argue over it, etc.

They need you to care about this. And you do, apparently.

I think Prime is a shitty person, but watching people like OP get so fucking mad that he has the audacity to replace shitty players with good ones, or to be proud of his team's upset after he was shit talked all summer is hilarious to me and makes me root for CU.

Ehh, I enjoy watching Nebraska lose, fall apart. People knocked Sanders for taking the job, said they'd win only a few games, FSU passed on hiring him, I hope he succeeds and makes everyone hate them. Alabama, Georgia need to get knocked down.

We as Michigan faithful are all to familiar with the September Hesiman. Having watched some of the videos Coach Prime's Son makes following the team it's clear they love the limelight and are doing a awesome job of self promotion. In this new age of NIL, Prime letting these kids self promote will be attractive to recruits, at least at first. The thing I can't wait to see is what happens in a couple of weeks with Oregon and SC in back to back games. If the team doesn't win will there be finger pointing and infighting as a means of protecting an individual players marketability? It seems like there is a lot of I's on that team but not a lot of WE's. Tom Luginbill has been dragged about his comments regarding the roster construction, but I think he'll be proven largely correct. There are several NFL ready players propping up average O and D lines. When big boy football is required I'm not sure they have the horses and I'll be very curious what the mood is like then.

If Nebraska beats the Buffs that is good for our SoS. In that sense, I'm all for it.

As for being tired of Prime, meh. He's going to be himself and on the whole I think that is good for College Football. It's not my personal taste but I also am not bothered by it. He has gotten a lot of attention but he's also done a pretty remarkable thing in a way most (me included) didn't think possible. More than happy for him to get a victory lap off of that.

People dislike Deion for the same reason the Feinbaums of the world dislike Harbaugh: they don't like the way he attracts and then basks in the media spotlight, so want him to be taken down a peg - then get frustrated by the fact that he can back his talk up.

(Just to get ahead of things...no, I'm not saying Deion and Harbaugh are the same - I'm saying they get hated on for similar reasons.)

I don't understand this sentiment.

Last year Colorado was blown off the field by over 30 points per game. They lost to 5-7 Arizona by 23 points.

That ain't gonna happen this year.

I don't think the Buffs are better than USC, Oregon or Washington. But they are definitely talented enough to fill every opponents britches on their schedule, and pull off the upset

The Forbes article today is dead on balls accurate on Sanders IMO.

I get why Harbaugh made his comments about the TCU game and Travis Hunter.  Both Sanders and Harbaugh were imprinted by great football coaches who won a crap ton of games.  The gold and the flash is one thing, but I like how Sanders has called critics to the carpet. Especially while coaching at an HBCU where ppl virtue signal like crazy, but didn't even attend games.

The attendance at Folsom on Saturday will be packed vs. Nebraska. After 1-11, that's insane.

Buffs will be 3-0 heading into Autzen Stadium, and that's where the fun really begins.

Ideally, we want every team we play to be undefeated at the point we play them, and failing that to have the best possible record. So, sure, root for all the B1G teams in non-conference games... although I put a small wager on the meteor for the ND-OSU game. The odds aren't great, just a little short of Northwestern for the National Championship but a little better than Powerball/Mega millions.

I totally agree. Can't stand arrogant/egotistical people like Deion. I prefer people who are humble and defer praise to others. The fact that he refused to take questions from reporters that doubted him is pathetic. I hope they lose the rest of their games.

The only argument for rooting for Nebraska is conference pride, and let's face it, Huskers aren't the Big Ten and conferences aren't a thing anymore.

Go Buffs.

I'm tired of prime theater. Clearly an all time great player, and I think he could be on his way to being considered a great coach. I just don't care for the self promotion. I find it odd that a fifty something year old has "coach prime" all over his Colorado gear. As a former coach (HS not college, but still), my goal was to give my kids the greatest experience possible, not make myself look good or stand out or be bigger than the players. So any coach (looking at you Lane Kiffin and Brian Kelly, you self serving tools) that loves the spotlight and attention and makes things about themselves offends me.

jdemille9

September 6th, 2023 at 9:50 PM ^

I don't mind it at all, I grew up watching him and absolutely loved his bravado. He would talk so much shit and then back it all up on the field. That shameless self-promotion IS who Deion Sanders is and always has been - not like he's just become that guy.

I get he's not for everyone, and I'm not quite to the 'get off my lawn' stage of life but to compare a Hall of Famer and two-sport professional athlete and one of the greatest athletes of all time to Brian Kelly and Lane Kiffin simply based on wanting to be in the spotlight is a bit off base (pun intended).

We'll see how everyone feels when/if he lands Bryce Underwood. Apparently Bryce will be at the USC/Colorado game.

They're pitching him on backing Sheduer then taking over. Sounds like his father is for Prime.

Obviously Colorado offense is an issue relative to ours.

I love Prime but I will be rooting against him this week as it serves Michigan on many fronts for Nebraska to win.
