Yup. We already have TEs in the 2018 class, and a roster full of them as well.
Good luck to him, but not worried about this
December 14th, 2017 at 12:35 PM ^
WHAT?! A FOOTBALL PLAYER WENT TO ANOTHER SCHOOL OTHER THAN MICHIGAN?!
Now, who will get the earth to start spinning again?
December 14th, 2017 at 3:05 PM ^
Wow, sense of humor at a low ebb. Now I know what it's like to be a part of those fan bases where you have to include "/s" for them to be able to see it.
I think I prefer being a Michigan man...
Sam had this as a highly unlikely get. We're already strong at TE, and have more recruits coming in. We'll be fine.

steve lorenz said the other day on a michigan podcast that there were rumors out there that a couple (bunting and wheatley specifically) could be a couple tight ends that leave the team before next year.
December 14th, 2017 at 1:04 PM ^
Wheatley could leave the team?
Wow.
December 14th, 2017 at 1:07 PM ^
Wish we could try him out on defense again. That's where we initially recruited him IIRC. That and OT.
December 14th, 2017 at 1:55 PM ^
iirc Bunting is a 5th year who may get the handshake. Wheatley departure would be only a mild surprise - often injured and not that effective when he's healthy.
December 14th, 2017 at 11:57 AM ^
I'm sure it's not intended to be so, but this sounds like the same petulence we complain about from some of our rivals.
He picked another school. Best of luck to him.
December 14th, 2017 at 12:22 PM ^
In this case, I think it's valid. If the coaches wanted him then Yaaay if we get him but I'm not sorry that he won't be in the class. We already have 2 TEs in the class and 4 guys who will be juniors next year, so we aren't desparate for freshman contributions.
I want to get to the point where Harbaugh doesn't feel forced to recruit unbalanced classes. He didn't take a TE last year because he was compelled to recruit 4 (or 5) WRs and 5 DTs. I would rather take 2 this year and 2 next year. That will be better for continuity going forward.

I should have added that there is a lot of talk about Ryan Hayes playing at TE. He's 6'7" and 252 pounds - Zach Gentry sized.

We also don't know much about his hands or how much weight he'll add. He may never see a snap as a TE, but it still stands as another reason to not be unhappy about Tremble going to the Irish.

I would have liked to have him.
December 14th, 2017 at 12:10 PM ^
More importantly than us having him, I would have liked ND to not have him.
December 14th, 2017 at 12:03 PM ^
The coaches are likely going to still be looking for another TE. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a renewed push for Michael Ezeike or if the coaches offer another TE to flip at the last minute.

Sam Webb said his parents were on board with ND.. Hate them all you want, and I do too, but it is a good school. I can't fault a kid for going where his parents want him and he's gonna get a good education.
December 14th, 2017 at 11:57 AM ^
His parents visited ND. Unfortunately, they didn't make the trip up to UM when he came for his official visit. Where the parents are this involved in the decisionmaking process, you have to get them on campus. I believe the parents visited ND twice and only his grandfather came with him when he came to Michigan.

Placing the whole "RC" thing (which has played well in Chicago for many years) aside for a moment, one obvious feature of ND (*private* school) is something that carries great weight with at least a small subset of the population. They may live in places where -- for K-12 -- there's a chasm between public and private in quality, safety, etc. They might not understand that it doesn't necessarily work that way for secondary education.

Kinda surprised they didn't fire him after last year.

Oh....wait....

Monday's have always been hated.

ND is a good school. They have done reasonably well on the field. Their TEs have done well in NFL. BK appears to be a jerk from the distrance, but he could be totally different in person.

BK is just a jerk. I'm sure he sweet talks people when he's recruiting, but he's a dick through and through. I've heard stories going all the way back to GVSU
December 14th, 2017 at 11:49 AM ^
I think he has toned down his public persona per an edict from his ND overlords. But a leopard can't change his spots and a jerk is always a jerk.

Hilarious and astute.
December 14th, 2017 at 12:20 PM ^
Maybe if his last name was Tommy-Tremble he would have been a better fit for Michigan.
