10/09/2018 - 3:44pm Nobody answered that…

Nobody answered that question.  If a Michigan fan donates a few bucks to get OSU season tickets and then sets up a Twitter feed with pictures paying cash to every football recruit in Ohio, can they get OSU in trouble?

Or, more realistically, could this happen in reverse?

What if Justin Boren started making it rain cash on football recruits?  Would Michigan and/or Ohio State get dinged?

This whole system is a joke.  Why is it even a problem for a poor kid to get some pocket cash to play AAU basketball?

10/06/2018 - 11:02pm He is actually the best…

He is actually the best safety in the B1G.

10/06/2018 - 9:59pm That would be good.  He has…

That would be great news.  He has really been coming on the last few weeks and we are suddenly thin at DT.

10/06/2018 - 6:41pm Maybe he got confused when…

Maybe he got confused when he said the NW should blow out Michigan.  Maybe he meant to  Michigan State.

i was actually Marcus Ray’s GSI back in 1996 and he is a really cool dude - at least he was back then.  He is just going through something.

10/06/2018 - 4:52pm But, but, but I thought NW…

But, but, but I thought NW was the worst team in CFB and it was a crisis that we played them close on the road?

10/04/2018 - 11:11am Similar vein to what I said…

Similar vein to what I said above.  I was 10 years old when Harbaugh started his first game as Michigan QB vs. #1 Miami (YTM) and his grittiness in that game started my love for all things Michigan.

10/04/2018 - 11:05am 2/3 sounds awfully high…

2/3 sounds awfully high given the high number of out of state and out of country students who mainly come from wealthy families.

Sounds like some fuzzy math to me.

But damn, $5B is a LOT of money.  Btw/ while this doesn't count as athletic department revenue, there is certainly a portion of this that can be attributed to the Michigan teams - primarily, but not limited to: football, basketball and hockey.

Another argument for providing direct monetary compensation to our athletes.

09/30/2018 - 12:32pm Agreed - this needs to get…

Agreed - this needs to get cleaned up.  The one fly in the ointment.

I am struck on the penalty disparity each and every week whether we play good or bad opponents - home or away.  Conspiracy stuff is stupid but wtf?

09/30/2018 - 12:28pm NFL isn't fooled with …

NFL isn't fooled with "splash" plays.  Last year, NFL analysts were dropping Hurst into the 2nd round (before his heart condition popped up) because they felt he benefitted from the double and triple teams that Gary was eating last year.

He is still eating those on the regular this year, even with a dinged up shoulder.

If opposing coaches and NFL analysts are telling us something, we should be listening...

09/27/2018 - 2:36pm I would be ok with him being…

I would be ok with him being the MGoBlog mascot!!!

09/26/2018 - 4:24pm Those people don't have…

Those people don't have skill sets as students that millions of people will drop money to see.  The black market is there because the top players are worth money that the regulations do not allow them to receive.

That is all the proof that you need that they are grossly undercompensated.  Bagmen are not charities.

09/26/2018 - 12:03pm Thank you!  I was too lazy…

Thank you!  I was too lazy to look it up but great to see actual statistics validate my empirically based guestimates.

I would think the transfer rate for D1 Football teams is around 10-15%, so less than half of the total student population.

09/26/2018 - 11:59am Yeah, screw kids trying to…

Yeah, screw kids trying to get a shot at a college scholarship.  Serving as a backup on their high school football team should be more important than the next 60 years of their lives.

09/26/2018 - 10:37am This is exactly right -…

This is exactly right - these kids are trying to get to the NFL.  If you get passed by someone younger than you, will not get the tape you need to maximize your draft value.  We are talking millions of dollars at stake for a kid like Bryant, don't blame in the least.

If a kid like Brandon Peters wants to do an early grad transfer next year, I wouldn't blame him either (although I would love for him to stay).

I would also point out that a high percentage of all college students transfer from one school to another for all sorts of reasons.  I would say that number is at least 20% and probably higher.  So I don't think the % for athletes is higher than the overall student population.

09/11/2018 - 10:47am I know that Yoder is not…

I know that Yoder is not popular here, for good reason, but he talked up Mayfield from the beginning of summer.

If Mayfield is a starting tackle before the end of the season, Yoder deserves credit for correctly calling / reporting / rumor mongering (whatever you want to call it) this one.

08/30/2018 - 11:22am It is Columbus OH so the…

It is Columbus OH so the competition shouldn't be that bad.  Either way, he looked like a P5 prospect is supposed to look like against weaker competition.

08/30/2018 - 11:18am I work in the funds industry…

I work in the funds industry and there used to be PE funds that would invest in junior soccer players.

Managers would pay the kids and their family upfront for training costs, stipend, living expenses, etc... and would then get 10% (or whatever) of their eventual pro earnings.  It was popular about 10 years ago until it got banned.  I think it was FIFA that banned it but I don't remember the details anymore.  Now, you see the European clubs themselves doing something similar but without the 10% cut.

I thought it was a cool idea and helped a lot of families - it would have also worked well in the U.S. in sports where you get a lot of low income kids if not for college eligibility restrictions.

Baseball teams do something similar in Latin America with their development programs.  Not sure exactly how that works though.

08/29/2018 - 4:11pm This guy is burning every…

This guy is burning every bridge possible - I hope someone in his family has some money because don't see who would ever hire him (in football or any other career).  He is documented to have had money problems when he was earning $300,000 per annum, what will happen with no income coming in?

He is already cracking and I think he is going to blow sky high - my guess is that we find out why Meyer was protecting this guy sooner than later.  OSU fans better hope that it is just about Earl Bruce and not something else that Smith has on Meyer.

08/25/2018 - 12:09pm Zach Smith might have…

Zach Smith might have something to say about that.

08/23/2018 - 12:17am This is is all coming from…

879087D5-2312-48A5-8D09-6186E40F139F.pngThis is is all coming from their own report.  There has to be more to this story, Zach Smith must have something on Urban Meyer.  No way he put up with all this sh!t for a bad WR coach / EB’s grandson.  He must have pics of Meyer with his Florida co-ed or handing cash to Percy Harvin or something.

08/23/2018 - 12:09am This is their f&cking report…

This is their f&cking report - how in the hell did they make this public?  Did they seriously just admit to possible NCAA violations and cybercrimes?  Holy sh!t

And then not fire everyone involved?  If there allegations of drug use and cybercrime involving one of my staff when I ran a bank region, I would have been walked out in handcuffs.

08/22/2018 - 11:58pm Basically, OSU is saying…

Basically, OSU is saying that Meyer takes medication that negatively impacts his memory even for subjects on which he has spent significant time.

Wtf? This has to be from the Onion... That sounds completely insane, how would he even be allowed to drive let alone coach a major college football team?

Wouldn’t they have been better to say that Urban lies in a misguided attempt to help his friend?  At least that is a plausible explanation that most guys can comprehend even if you would never condone it yourself.

08/20/2018 - 9:57pm Plus Taylor Upshaw and maybe…

Plus Taylor Upshaw and maybe Juice Welschof.

08/20/2018 - 9:55pm The fact that he is…

The fact that he is transferring means that he, the team, or both didn't think that he was P5 level.

This is very disappointing, I was hoping this kid could be a contributor in 2019.

08/20/2018 - 2:31pm Damn - we all feared this…

Damn - we all feared this was going to end like this.  I feel so bad for the kid who everyone agrees is a great guy and he was working so hard to get back on the field.

It won't be the last time we hear his name and he will make us even more proud to be a Michigan Man off the field as he did when he was on the field.

08/20/2018 - 12:30pm I think Smith has something…

I think Smith has something on Meyer.  Maybe he was the fixer when Meyer got mixed up with the co-ed at Florida.  Or maybe Zach Smith was (still is?) the OSU bag man coordinator.

No way that Meyer put up with all of this nonsense because Smith was Bruce's grandson.

08/20/2018 - 11:22am I think it is a fair comment…

I think it is a fair comment that he has underachieved his recruiting rankings.

however, given that recruiting is a significant part of the job, you can’t say he has underachieved overall as the head coach.

08/16/2018 - 10:53am Listening to this song…

Listening to this song brought a tear to my eye - sad day for those of us native Detroiters.

Everyone knows that Aretha had a big voice and bigger personality - not as many people know that she had bigger cajones than 99.9% of men.  She had to face down some seriously stupid and backwards people and always did it with grace and, yes, Respect.

Always love this woman...RIP

08/13/2018 - 10:03pm Are you kidding me?  This…

Are you kidding me?  This Shawn L. Martin/ Maizen / Bluey.

I remember this same quote as when Velazquez committed.

Dude - you are just sad.  Don’t you have anything better to do?  Go sign up for an on-line dating service - you will thank me.

08/13/2018 - 9:18pm I heard we might have to…

I heard we might have to vacate that Outback Bowl loss.

08/13/2018 - 1:24pm EMB was the first person I…

EMB was the first person I thought about when I heard this story.  Given whatever went thought his brain the past six months, he obviously doesn't want to keep the shoes.

Also, he said something about launching an ICO (crypto offering) so he probably used shoe money to seed it.  It is rational within the overall context of craziness.

08/12/2018 - 8:51pm Harrison is a WDE so I don’t…

Harrison is a WDE so I don’t see the relevance to his recruitment.

It might mean that Rodas Johnson is out - be it his choice or Michigan’s.

08/12/2018 - 8:48pm I don’t care about the starz…

I don’t care about the starz given that we are talking about Matty and Don Brown - who have proven their ability to find undervalued recruits.

I am wondering why they are going after so many DL types.  I would rather take a flier on a WR or a LB as those seem to be thin positions looking out to 2020-2021.

08/12/2018 - 5:05pm Really like this kid!  I…

Really like this kid!  I would root for him no matter where he goes - but really glad he picked Michigan.

08/09/2018 - 10:57pm Exactly, why are you guys…

Exactly, why are you guys complaining about someone with ties to an insider giving us fantastic updates??????

Your comment was like the 1000th comment today about the link / no link.

08/01/2018 - 11:52am Meyer made a mistake going…

Meyer made a mistake going after McMurphy - should have kept his mouth shut ("I won't be discussing this today to protect the privacy of the family...").  McMurphy is now out for both notoriety and blood.

This is the downfall for all douche bags - not being able to shut their f&cking mouths.  He couldn't help himself because he want to look like the good guy.

If he lied about knowing of the 2015 incident at the B1G Media Day, this could actually be trouble for him.

07/26/2018 - 1:34am I would call Delano a star. …

I would call Delano a star.  He was drafted Day 2 last year.

And he stopped JT for no gain!

07/25/2018 - 11:54pm Why the fu&k are you going…

Why the fu&k are you going out of your way to take a $hit on one of our players?

07/23/2018 - 11:57am Were the actual ticket costs…

Were the actual ticket costs deductible or just that stupid "donation" that was deductible?  That whole PSD concept (across the college sports industry - not just Michigan) was a scam.

07/20/2018 - 9:40pm I can think of a couple…

I can think of a couple reasons that he is a very lucky man.

07/20/2018 - 12:53pm I disagree - Nebraska will…

I disagree - Nebraska will surprise some people this year, especially towards the end of the season and will be a B1G West contender in 2019.

07/16/2018 - 1:49am I wish he was a baller, I…

I wish he was a baller, I wish he had a girl if he did he would call her...

great song

07/15/2018 - 10:19am He literally the same size…

He literally the same size and weight as 2 different 2018 one and dones.

07/15/2018 - 10:16am Yeah, if we were going to…

Yeah, if we were going to miss on a high priority target, it was lucky that it was at PG.

We are loaded at PG for the next 3 years.

07/14/2018 - 7:24pm What part seems outrageous? …

What part seems outrageous?  The part about OSU looking up or the part about Carton having trouble beating out the 3 PGs already on Michigan’s roster.

07/14/2018 - 7:20pm Maizen told me that Beilein…

Maizen told me that Beilein couldn’t recruit basketball players so he started going after football players.

when Carton bailed on us, he decided to pursue Ford.

07/14/2018 - 3:47pm Yes, I want any guy named…

Yes, I want any guy named Rocket.  The fact that he is a local kid and would seem to be a good complement to DeJulius makes it all the better.

07/14/2018 - 3:43pm I would say that we need to…

I would say that we need to look at SG.  We seem thin there, especially if Poole goes early to the NBA (which I think is likely).

07/14/2018 - 3:40pm If I remember right, wasn’t…

If I remember right, wasn’t C.J. Walker a combo guard?  Or did he lose his job to a combo guard?

either way, he and Luther are not as deep a room as Simpson, Brooks and DeJulius.
