I don't understand the point of this and similar posts.  No one argues that UM's class would not be better if there were able to add a bunch of 5 stars.  No one argues that having more 5 stars does not increase our chances in winning a NC.  I am certain that JH wants to have more 5 starts.  A lot of stuff, including geography and poor performance during the past 10-15 years make it nearly impossible to recruit at Alabama's level.  So, what is the point of these posts? Seriously.  You are stating the obvious and then claim that no one can see the obvious.

I have a friend at Temple.  He tells me that Don is high on the list but they are unsure if he can be had.  That is, they think UM will do whatever they can to keep him.

12/12/2018 - 8:55am I am not saying we are going…

I am not saying we are going undefeated, but those two losses will not happen.  UW will lose a lot of talent at OL and RB and we saw what PSU is under the new OC and a new QB. There will be an unexpected loss, but OSU will be a win.

The disturbing part is how few skilled players we have in the NFL.  I guess it confirms our recent years' struggles.

12/09/2018 - 6:36pm I hope that JH would not…

I hope that JH would not play much the players who have a chance to play in NFL next year. First, what is the point of creating an injury and costing the kid a lot of money. Also, give younger kids a chance to play and get ready for next year.

I would play Chase, Bush, Higdon, and may be others just a few series and then move on to younger ones.

12/08/2018 - 9:59am I don't agree that the ONLY…

I don't agree that the ONLY way to beat OSU is to match there approach offensively.  I fact, teams that have defeated OSU during the last few years have done it with defense. MSU twice, Clemson, Iowa, VT, OK.  They kept OSU from scoring its season average.  Last time in Columbus we had our best chance to beat them with a good defense. Only thing we needed was an above average offense on that day.

12/04/2018 - 1:33pm It is mostly unclear how…

It is mostly unclear how successful he will be.  There is a big difference between being an assistant and running the whole program. Just look at NFL and see how many great assistant coaches turn out to be bad head coaches.

The fact that OSU performed well during the first 3 games means absolutely nothing.  Also, the fact the offense he is running beat us means very little.  It will take 2-3 years to see the full impact of this coaching change on the program.

I bet there will be some turnover among the other assistants and that could affect the chemistry of the program.   One thing we know is that Urban was simple the best and it will be difficult to top his success, which could put pressure on him and who knows how he will react to that pressure.

Actuall, I think all the kids who are leaving early should not play in none CFP games. Better to give the kids who are gong to be here next year to get the experience.

11/25/2018 - 9:17am The people who even…

The people who even entertain the idea of removing Jim have lost their mind. Let’s face it.  OSU will always have more talent than us no matter who our coach is. They are coached as well if not better than almost every team in the country as long as Urban is there. Unless there are some breaks in the Game such they play poorly, have injuries to key players, we have a healthy team loaded with seniors and the game is at home, etc, we are not winning the game and there is no coach out there who could come here and change the situation.

The fact that OSU has lost to other teams in BIG in the past does not mean shit. They do not get OSU’s best.  Let’s enjoy the 10-2 record and support the team for an 11-2 record.

Our defense is good, but I think weak opponents have skewed it.  PSU is a good test because we do have some problems with mobile QBs -- see ND. I still think our 2016 defense was better.

10/15/2018 - 7:26pm People keep saying that MSU…

People keep saying that MSU had beaten us when we had a better team on paper. This is not actually true. If we look at his 8 wins against us, MD teams were actually better than us. He has beaten us with better teams.

10/09/2018 - 2:14pm I don't see how S&P+…

I don't see how S&P+ forecasts 2 more losses when only OSU is rated higher than us.  PSU and Wisc are rated lower and we play them at home.  MSU is not a loss either.

ESPN has us losing to OSU and PSU on neutral site, but not at home because while PSU is rated slightly higher, we play them at home.

Wisky that lost at home? PSU that almost lost the App State? They are very good teams but have had bad games as well.

09/29/2018 - 10:25pm I don’t understand all the…

I don’t understand all the negativity. NW is a good team despite their record. Their QB was and is still considered an NFL prospect. NW had two weeks to prepare and save their season. Still, we ended up with 376 yards of offense and a W while shutting them down almost completely.  This was a good win.

I think he is a slightly faster and more agile version of De'Veon Smith.  He will be a good between the tackles runner.

08/09/2018 - 8:26am The bold prediction #4 on…

The bold prediction #4 on the same list is rather odd. It has Wisconsin going 12-0, which means they will beat us at home.  That could happen. But the key games for them to go 12-0 are listed as at PSU and Iowa.  Beating us is a foregone conclusion.

08/03/2018 - 11:24am I worked in the investment…

I worked in the investment management company of a private university’s endowment for several years and still provide some consulting for them. A significant portion of hour private investments (I.e., hedge funds, private equity, private real estate....) are managed by our alums. We like to work with our alums.  In some cases, we actually provide the initial seed money to get a fund started and in exchange we receive lower fees.  In other cases, established funds that are closed to outside investors are willing to accept money from us because they are alums and because we are long term investors. Also, we have alums who act as consultants. We do pay attention to COI but the fund is managed as a separate entity and our compensations partly depend on the performance of the fund. Finally, we have never received a call from president’s office asking us to allocate funds to an alum.

I know some of the people who manage UM’s endowment.  Though investment management company is setup differently from ours, I will be very surprised to learn that the allocation to that fund did not pass rigorous due diligence—especially at a public institution that is subject to FOI.

It is totally fine with me.  I don’t see anything wrong with. Who are these donors hurintg? No one. But they are savings UM, fans and tax payers a lot of money.

I suggest that you find a different cause to fund.

Your take on 3 jobs in 3 years is not right.  He lost the job at OSU because he could not coach offense.  He left Minn because he knew he would get the OL job at UM. He did not get fired because he could not recruit.

What is the point?  So, we have missed on a few top in state players.  Everyone sees it, including Jim.  With success on the field, next year will be different.  If we finish 8-4 again, then we will have bigger problems.  For now, I am going with Jim, realizing that the likes of you were ready to fire JB because he did convince an 18 year old to pick UM.

A person close to the situation told me that JB's plans for his post UM career was an important factor in his willingness to talk to Pistons -- perhaps a front office position once he retires from UM.

06/01/2018 - 2:54pm He is a very QB

May not win the Heisman but he is going to be one of the top QBs in the country. We better be ready when we meet them in EL.

05/23/2018 - 3:32am He is very good QB. Last year was

His first year of playing and I think he set a couple MSU records. Some NFL draft sites have him as a 1st round pick. He scares the shit out of me.

05/23/2018 - 3:27am I don’t understand the point of this post

Freed is reporting on a lawsuit, which or may not have any merits. I don’t see anything wrong.

05/19/2018 - 9:00am Most of the items are from his NHL days

Only a few UM related items are there and not very valuable ones. There are a lot of stuff and I know that he has already donated a bunch to NHL and UM.

05/14/2018 - 9:55am Would you have said the same thing at the end of 2016?

Would you have said the same thing at the end of 2016?

I think a reasonable answer is no.  JH was considered to be on track.  If not for the injury to WS, we would have won at least 1 of the 3 games we lost.  Even a 10-2 in BIG was considered good.  So he was not clueless in 2016 and suddenly became clueless in 2017. He had a bad year which was partly his fault and partly bad luck -- 2 QBs getting injured.

I consider MD to be an excellent coach, but I am sure some were saying that MD was clueless after 2016 season.  We saw what happened in 2017.

Judging a coach with a good to excellent track record based on 1 year of data is stupid.
