Logan Tully-Tillman to grad transfer

Submitted by trueblue262 on

Kid's definitely not been shy about moving around the past few years, but thought it was of interest with the schools listed

To bring a kid back to the very environment where he behaved in a way that caused his dismissal? Regardless of your opinion on what he did that doesn't seem likely. I could imagine it if it was to another program but the same staff but to remove a guy for conduct (big step) to bring him back to the same program a couple years later seems very unlikely to me just for PR purposes.

If he can perform to the level that he looked like at the start of 2015 where he was the 6th OL, that could really help us. This could for sure keep Cole at his natural position of C.

I'm confused. LTT grad transfered to Washington State about this time last year with two years of eligibility remaining.  So he's transfering again?  Did he get a graduate degree at WSU so this would be a grad grad transfer?

From a football perspective he's a monster.  A sorely missed monster the last couple years.

that yes, I think he is grad transferring for a second time.  Not sure about all the details but he must have graduated before the start of the 2016 season (likely by taking summer classes as has been mentioned and why he was able to walk with Michigan in Dec), which made him a graduate student this fall and was the reason he didn't have to sit out. He still has another year of eligibility so I guess he's allowed to grad transfer again.

Whether that requires a change in grad program I'm not sure. I thought grad transfers were only allowed to not sit a year if a player enrolls in a program not offered at the original institution which would mean he was in a program at Akron not offered at M and he'd have to start a new program at M that isn't offered at Akron? Not sure if that's still a rule.  Maybe not, but a lot going on here.

I think there are some PR hoops the university and the football program will have to jump through, but it's a move they may be willing to make given our OL situation.

Even if he does transfer to Michigan, he'll have to sit out a year right? It may helpful in 2018 but our OL woes in 2017 won't change.

what he did was wrong, but I feel he has paid his due. he had his day in court, he had to play for Akron. Cant we offer him a chance for redemption?

That was his sentence so it hasn't been served yet.

If the school doesn't want to admit LTT, that should be the end of it. Wouldn't surprise me if that's the case. If the school is willing to bring him back, then I have no problem if Harbaugh wants to as well. Also if he doesn't.  He knows him better than we do.

Redemption stories are nice, but this might not be the right place or time for this one. I'll just wish LTT luck wherever he ends up. I appreciate that he does want to return and I'm sure he'll land somewhere.

and thanked Coach Harbaugh for helping him grow up or something to that effect when he left.

If Coaches want him back I trust them.  On the other hand if Sam says it would be a no, probably not happening.

and the recruiting process. If he said he was solid early in the process and honest about "not wanting attention" he would have said he was solid with Bama and don't bother me again, instead he played the game to keep himself in the national recruiting conversation. Had he not done this he might have dropped off the recruiting radar and fallen from the #1 position, that's the game. So there's the player and the game we can choose to hate or like both.

But who cares now, he has to prove himself on the field after he gets his knee surgery, #1 ain't mean nuttin at this point.

I'm all for it. All about second chances. Kid paid the price for his mistakes, no reason he should keep paying. If he's good enough to come back and he wants to come back, let him come back. Everyone crying about PR: this is a success story. Kid fucked up, was disciplined, kicked off the team, had to transfer away from his friends and teammates and school, graduated, and is pursuing graduate education (and football). He has obviously learned from his mistake and gotten his act together. That's how you spin this.

there was enough good things about the team, coaching staff and institution that outweigh any negatives from this re-hashing you speak of.  If he's a mature kid that has paid the consequences and made amends (hopefully with the young woman), he could/should be perfectly fine coming back.  He obviously wants to at least explore the possibility if M is listed on that letter.

Whether the coaches would want him back is another story, of course.

FWIW... I was a call screen at Detroit Sports 105.1 from a year ago now until their demise (RIP). This kid named Troy (I think he was from somewhere downriver if I remember correctly) would always call in to try and ask Lindsey Hunter about taking one of the vacant Michigan assistant jobs. When I would turn him down, we'd talk football for a couple minutes. Claimed he was LTT's cousin and LTT had a really good relationship with the staff. Was trying to get back on the team as soon as last year, pending all of his legal/academic hurdles were cleared.

Take that for what you will. I know it's a consider the source type of thing. But if we ever find out LTT has a cousin named Troy from downriver...
