If we want to add respectable schools that are athletically and academically sound, I would go with (1) Syracuse and (2) BC.  Syracuse is close enough travel wise, captures NY State, and would renew the long rivalry with PSU.  BC is no further than Maryland, captures all of New England, and appears to be an honorable institution (even though they stole AJ Dillon from us).

If we are most interested in expanding the B1G's footprint, I would go with the University of Hawaii and the London School of Economics.

Back in '72, Brandy and I were both undergrads and were in Prof. Stasheff's Broadcast Journalism class together (I was a sports announcer for WCBN, doing football and basketball games). Brandy was a great guy -- very friendly -- but, as much as I hate to say it, his interviews and gamecasts in class were extraordinarily brutal. Some things never change -- still a great guy and horrible announcer.

I would hardly call their game a "road game."  It was played at JerryWorld and the crowd was at least 2/3 Buckeye fans.  And, it was officiated by a neutral ACC crew.

09/17/2018 - 7:34am Scott Frost is nothing like…

Scott Frost is nothing like Brady Hoke.  Frost is loud, uber-agressive, and suffers from too much testosterone.  Hoke was simply Dave Brandon's passive little prison bitch.  Plus, Frost wears a headset.

I would like to have them lightly sauteed, with a side of fava beans and a good chianti.

Oh. That's disappointing.  I was getting all set to go there.

I would be more concerned if it were 'Bama and Georgia still chasing him.  We won't get TreadwelIed. I don't think Ole Miss is giving out (as much) money and co-eds to recruits anymore.

NCAA should repeal the platoon system rules and go back to all two-way players.  I'm sure they'll get right on it.  While they're at it, maybe they could once again ban the forward pass, since we haven't been so good at it lately.

09/10/2018 - 7:46am Hey, watch it, man.  Our OTs…

Hey, watch it, man.  Our OTs are very good.  It's just that the other teams' DEs are much better.

"Dcaff" -- good one.  I just hope he doesn't play like he's on decaf.  So far, he has exceeded expectations in his limited appearances.

The Hinton brothers?  I would not assume that's a done deal -- for either of them.  If we win out we will stand a much better chance.

Fuck her and the whole Lewerke family -- ancestors and prospective progeny included.

No way do we start with a pass over the middle.  I agree with play action rollout to TE or FB, a la Griese to Tuman.

Can their whole O-line please leave, too?

No, it's the Horseshoe that is obviously off by a couple of inches.

08/29/2018 - 10:11am I would actually like to see…

I would actually like to see the all-maize uniforms we wore against Florida last year adopted as our permanent road uniforms.  I thought they were classy and intimidating, and they would be almost as unique and  memorable as our home uniforms.  No one would have to think twice about what team they're watching (even though the helmets pretty much do the trick in that regard).

Skip Bayless being nuanced is unfathomable.

I am totally shocked that none of his teammates said "This guy sucks.  I wish we had Steven Threet back at QB."

We will all celebrate mightily.

If this is true, I would bet that Meyer will have a head coaching job next year or, at the very latest, the year after.  My prediction is the University of Illinois.

I'd like Rashan to be wearing it when he rams it into Lewerke's chin.

08/16/2018 - 7:58am 7-2 offsuit is the worst…

7-2 offsuit is the worst starting hand in Hold'em, with a less than 32% chance of winning against one other random hand.  Pocket 8s has a 69% chance of holding up against one other random hand.

Due to relentless fan pressure, the NCAA has moved the Michigan-ND game to August 18.  Feel better?

Pull up, Shawn!  Pull up, Shawn!  Damn!!!

08/16/2018 - 7:40am I agree 6-0 going into…

I agree 6-0 going into Wisconsin IF we get by the Irish.  And that's a big if.  Think Harry Oliver.  Think Rocket Ishmail. Think night game on the road against a highly ranked team for our first game of the year with a brand new QB.  I'm pretty sure we will be the better team this year in the long run, but this game scares the hell out of me.

08/14/2018 - 3:14pm If they want to change the…

If they want to change the culture of the program they should simply hire John Engler as head coach. That will lead to instant change, as he has proven at MSU.

My nephew went to Columbia in NYC.  Even though it's co-ed, there is still an affiliated girls' school across the street -- Barnard.  When I asked him to describe the Barnard girls he replied, "By and large, they're bi and large."   Perfect response.

Hell, we are starting a new QB; two new OL, and a third OL changing positions (Ruiz).  Seems like a wash to me.

So was I. Watching Woodley stiff arm a would be tackler  and rumble into the end zone with a fumble recovery will forever be etched in my mind.

08/11/2018 - 2:53pm I played 3 years on the… I played 3 years on the Michigan lacrosse team ('69-'72), winning back to back Midwest club lacrosse championships. No one ever offered to buy any of my gear. And I had to pay for my own shoes. Guess I chose the wrong sport.
08/09/2018 - 3:57pm Great analysis.  Here are…

Great analysis.  Here are the two points from the graph that really stick out to me as indicating JT's value:

Opp. pts. per possession drop from 0.97 to 0.85.   That means one less point per every 8 possessions. Assuming a team averages 50-60 possessions per game, that means about 7 fewer opp. pts. for every 40 minutes Teske is in the game.  That is a huge number in terms of defensive effectiveness.

Second, while opp. 3pt. shooting pct. drops slightly when Teske is in, their 2 pt. pct. drops from 48.1 to 40.9.  A decrease of over 7 pct. is a clear testament to Teske's value as a rim protector and shot alterer.

We will be just fine with Jon T. playing big minutes. And besides, he's just a really cool dude.

08/02/2018 - 7:33am Actually, I can't really…

Actually, I can't really remember any "bad shit" being attached to Earl Bruce or John Cooper.  If there was, please remind me.  Woody, of course, was another story; but there is no evidence he cheated.  He was just a miserable asshole.  I think the "bad shit" era really began with Tressel and has definitely not subsided.

08/02/2018 - 7:28am Meanwhile, Sparty Nation…

Meanwhile, Sparty Nation will be burning couches in joy over this.  They will no longer be ground zero for public wrath, at least for the 15 minutes of notoriety that this will garner before Gene Smith manages to bury it.

06/27/2018 - 7:44am This is a very gray area. …

This is a very gray area.  While stress is not known to be the direct and proximate cause of illness, it is well known to be a contributing factor, by making one more susceptible to disease.  It affects the immune system, as well as the cardiovascular system and the digestive system.  So, while I would not argue that stress causes athlete's foot, I would certainly argue that it increases the likelihood of heart attack, stroke, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), and numerous other conditions.  There's really no need to argue over the 90% number; but you can be sure that stress is a major contributing factor to a host of illnesses, both physical and, even more so, mental.

Hey, dude.  Whatever floats your boat.  I've tried them both, and for me masturbation works a lot better than Jesus to relieve my stress.

You have it backwards. The blue end zone will help us beat OSU. Urban has an aversion to blue, which he has passed on to the whole team.  They will avoid our end zone like Pavlov's dogs.
