Finishing out the recruiting class

Submitted by Real and Spectacular on
Right now we sit at 20 commits and I believe we will likely end up at 32 or so. There has been some talk of up to 35 but that would require gray shirts and last year we heard low 30s was possible too and we ended up at 28. So I am going to guess the final 12 spots based on what I've read and my gut (No my gut doesn't mean anything like Sam Webbs gut does)

1. WR-DPJ

2. WR-Black

3. WR- Collins

4. OL- Banks

5. OL- Wilson

6. OL- Ruiz

7. DT- Retmaeir

8. DT- Solomon

9. DE- Irving-Bey

10. LB- Singleton

11. LB- Anthony

12. CB- Thomas

Although it's not everyone on the wish list, it would be an outstanding finish. Notable misses are WR Martin, RB Harris, OL Slaton, OL Leatherwood, OL Filiaga, DT Tufele, LB Gay, CB Holmes.

What are your thoughts on who we finish up with?

I wouldn't care if Taylor left, in fact I'd be surprised if he didn't look elswhere. Harbaugh is gonna get guys like Najee Harris (if not actually him then similar guys) in the future. Mike Hart was great but I'd rather have a Tyrone Wheatley, or Anthony Thomas type RB in this system. Or a Najee Harris.

I think Harbaugh is all in on the kid. He sees a young Frank Gore(Who just happens to be 8th or 9th all time in Rush Yards in the NFL) who will peak in college and beyond. Michigan has not wavered on that kid, even when we had a higher ranked teammate in the class that we let go on purpose. Let's not act like we know more than Harbaugh about a committed prospect

I caught a bit of his last playoff game and I would compare what I saw in him to Vincent Smith. He seemed comfortable with pass blocking despite being small and was a decent threat out of the backfield, just not a home run hitter. Hart was also similar but his balance and vision set him apart from everyone else.

Yes, but the only reason that thought exists is because of his recruiting rankings. It is known that he more than likely has the lowest ceiling of any RB committed, but I haven't heard anything definitive about that.

I'm not on boards, but usually those things leak a little. All I've heard is the notion that Taylor is similar to a Swenson type recruit who gets pushed out late because they like someone better (this is all assumption based on Harbaugh's past). While that may happen, Taylor isn't the guy visiting other schools right now. If one of the other two decommits, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Taylor stays in the class. In fact, in my personal non-professional opinion, my bet would be on Taylor being in.

I still don't understand why we haven't replaced the "most replaceable" of the three with Eno Benjamin, who basically begged to come to Michigan a few months ago. I hate that recruiting boils down to an insensitive game of human chess, but that's what it is, and giving people the most amount of time to find a new landing space is the decent thing to do.

Brian mentioned him in his overview a few days ago. The rest of the three stars are in position of need (OL, DL, FB), are Brad Hawkins (4* Last Yr), or are J'Marick Woods, who just reaffirmed his commitment to Michigan. Seems like the most convenient time for him and Michigan to parts ways would have been last week or whenever that was.

The OL both look better than their rankings. Paea is a local kid and really our only DT in the class. Even if we got all of our other targets at DT, he'd still have room just because we need the numbers. Paye seems like a Don Brown guy (BC decommit) and still need DL no matter what actual position.

was looking at Rivals today. The lack of "Michigan" near any of the Top 100ish recruits, aside from McCaffrey, was not particularly heartwarming, and that was when it still looked very possible that we would beat OSU and make the CFP, with Harbaugh-mania in full effect.  I was also stunned to see a top ranked OL from IMG with high level interest in Penn State but none in Michigan.  Huh?  I admit that I am a bit concerned now that we can recruit all that competively with OSU.

You obviously don't realize that we lead for everyone on that wish list except for maybe 1 or 2 prospects.

Well I'll help you out there. We lead for everyone on that wish list except for maybe 1 or 2 prospects (who we may be #2 in if we're not leading). And that is not spicing things up - this is actually a conservative take in my opinion. You may not also know that the rest of the guys that were left out involves guys that if we don't actually lead for we are still probably #2 (Najee Harris, for example), so if one of the guys in the 1-12 wish list decides that they want SEC $$$ (semi-joke) over what UM has to offer, another guy who has Michigan #1 who is also a 4* will jump right in. We have a good if not fantastic shot with 8-10 top 100 prospects and another 8-10 top 300 prospects.

There have been 8 posts in the last two days discussing this. Read the Rivals new 5* post. Read any recruiting post lately. YOU SHOULD NOT BE WORRIED. THIS WILL BE A TOP 5 CLASS EASY. STOP WORRYING. EVERYONE, STOP WORRYING.
