General excitement level is right on par for him. He is a boom or a bust player.  If he's a bust nothing really lost with what we have on DL. If he's a boom then great another weapon to use.

06/27/2018 - 9:32am All good points and…

All good points and definitely agree with finding time to do something you enjoy doing, even if it is alone. A hobby, or video games or just sitting with a good book.  Everyone needs some time to just recharge away from people and do something enjoyable. It will help relieve stress and keep you grounded.

I had the same thought about stress and UM football. Hell those games will stress me when we are playing. I have gotten to a point where I don't let them bother me when they are over, even a bad loss. But during the game I am into it and cheering and stressing about the game.

Or say that TV is too big, said by every guy........ never........

06/26/2018 - 11:13am Well, first you have to…

Well, first you have to believe these guys really know what they are doing. Second it's easier to look at a player and say he's good at certain things and give him a 4 star rating. That does not always correlate to being a good fit in a coaches system.

Also coaches are offering kids they see in person, meet and many times work with them at a camp so they know what it's like to coach them and even get a feel for their personality.  All things guys sitting in front of a computer and looking at highlight tapes don't get a feel for.

Long story short trust a coach to find the players they need to fit in their system.

Rivals seems to only care if you attend one of their camps.

That is some good looking film. The kid has great vision and quick feet. Seems to understand his OL's blocking scheme and how to set up blocks and where the seams should be.  Runs a little upright and will need to learn to lower and run behind his pads a little more at the next level, but this kid is going to be very good.

Guessing he hasn't done a ton of pass blocking so will need to learn protections and techniques but should be an every down back at UM.

When Tebow was in Denver I remember telling people that guy should shift to TE. He is athletic as hell and with his speed would've been an all pro some day. I believe he was even approached about making the change, but he thought he was a QB........

06/25/2018 - 3:26pm I would agree with what you…

I would agree with what you have to say here, as far as JH's time in the B1G and maybe that is what they are solely looking at. However, for a career on everything JH has done as a coach, it is tough to rank anyone in the B1G in front of him, maybe Meyer......

06/25/2018 - 3:23pm Why do you trust guys…

Why do you trust guys sitting in front of computers more then you trust the coaches at UM?  The coaches who's jobs rely on these recruits and have met, talked with and watched these guys up close are a lot more qualified to judge the talent they need more then a recruiting site.

06/25/2018 - 3:21pm Not having elite speed doesn…

Not having elite speed doesn't really concern me. If the kid can block and is a reliable pass catcher he will fit our offense perfectly.  Want a TE to catch the every pass thrown his way and be able to move the chains in 3rd down situations with 8-10 yard grabs. Anything beyond that is gravy when it comes to catching the ball.  Seems like a kid that could be very good at the goal line throwing jump balls to him.

06/25/2018 - 3:09pm A versatile DB, who can play…

A versatile DB, who can play CB, Safety or Nickel, is great news. Once he gets to AA try him everywhere and let him fill the position he fits best.

06/25/2018 - 1:12pm Said this a while back. The…

Said this a while back. The kid is not rated highly, because he doesn't fit a typical position at the next level. Doesn't quite have the size to be a true LB  or the speed to be a true Safety. However, he is a perfect hybrid and will be an outstanding viper for UM.  Now that he slots into a position at the next level and has committed to UM I think his ranking will go up.

Also he has been committed to play baseball for 2 years, so recruiting sites have basically ignored him. With a good Senior year, he could very easily become a 4 star by the last rating cycle.

06/25/2018 - 9:49am Well, it's better people…

Well, it's better people ripping on you in this thread then you ripping another recruit because some recruiting service doesn't rate them as a 4 star.

Great pickup. Just keep re-loading that D-line and when you consider he's a local kid makes it even sweeter.  Welcome to UM.

06/22/2018 - 4:50pm No chance of becoming a 4…

No chance of becoming a 4 star you say.  Your probably right he only is a two time first team all Ohio player and was Division II player of the year in Ohio.

His rating isn't as high right now because he is kind of a tweener, on defense, but a perfect fit for a viper for us as Don Brown likes kids that are tweeners. Also he has been committed to play baseball for 2 years so recruiting sites have been paying no attention to the kid for a while now.

Give it some time now that he is committed to UM and is slotted as a viper for us, people will take another look at him and realize how good he will be for us.  But, I also suppose you think Don Brown doesn't know what he is doing what it comes to defense and finding the right fit for that defense. They probably should just talk to you on who to recruit and accept commits from.

06/22/2018 - 1:10pm He's actually the perfect…

He's actually the perfect size for the position. He's basically the same size as Peppers and Hudson and being a two sport star tells me the kid is athletic.

Watch his highlight tape the kid has some great skills. He will need to clean up a few things in some of his technique, but that is what our top flight coaches are for.  I expect him to be a stud Viper for us in the future.

06/22/2018 - 11:45am This is a kid, when final…

This is a kid, when final rankings come out next year, could very easily be a 4 star. Most recruiting sites haven't paid much attention to him, since they assumed he would be playing baseball only at the next level.

Now that UM has offered him for football and it is known where they plan to play him he will get looked at in a different light as he is a perfect fit for the Viper position. If he has a nice Senior season his rankings will definitely go up.

Don't always star gaze, these coaches, especially Brown, know what type of player they need for their defense and what position they fit nicely into.  Hudson has made huge strides since coming to UM and may even turn pro after this season. Probably not many people would've predicted that when he committed.

Taking a trip from Denver to the U.P. in a couple of weeks. Plan to take my time and see a lot of things on the way up there. Will be in the U.P for 10 days relaxing and seeing the sites. Then taking a different route home to check out more new things.

I always prescribe to the notion you never turn down a great talent that can help you team even if it's just for a year. This team needs to start winning more games, which translates to even better recruiting. If the #1 WR from a couple of years ago wants to come here and helps us win games for a season, come on down....

Actually looks like the easiest places to win on the road.

One more week of work, before I head up to the U.P. for a vacation. Bang me all day.

06/21/2018 - 5:22pm 9 wins is a pretty safe…

9 wins is a pretty safe prediction for anyone trying to guess what UM will do this season. The team should be improved from last year, but the schedule is brutal.  I'm leaning towards 10-2 regular season then a very nice bowl win to end 11-2 and top it off with a top 5 recruiting class.

06/21/2018 - 3:47pm I will actually be shocked…

I will actually be shocked if Quinn returns next season. My guess whoever drafts him will want him in their program. If not in the NHL right out of the gate some seasoning in the AHL for half a season before his call up.

That is what I was thinking. That is a lot of large men to feed. I can imagine that cost a few bucks to cater in. Nice of Mattison to do that.

If he wants to walk-on I would welcome him with open arms. It doesn't cost us anything and if the guy can add something even on special teams it's just a bonus.

06/21/2018 - 9:40am Completely agree, I would…

Completely agree, I would love to see another Hughes here. But, if the kid hasn't finished high school you can't accept him into the University, just because he is good at hockey.  I would rather see UM keep it's standards and continue to be the top public university in the country, rather then bend rules for one athlete.

Don't need. The game is "The Game" and usually kicks off rivalry weekend. It is just fine where it's at.

06/20/2018 - 1:32pm I got to know a sports talk…

I got to know a sports talk show host a few years back and he told me his whole model is based on basically saying something somewhat far fetched just to generate calls and discussions.

An example for college football. He would look at the conferences and study the teams and their schedules, then predict a team who would be a long shot, but if things broke right could possible win that conference. Then come out and say they are going to win such and such conference this up coming season you can bet on it.  Of course fans of other teams would get fired up and call the show and just like that he could fill an entire show talking about it.

06/19/2018 - 4:40pm It all comes down to Webber…

It all comes down to Webber. My gawd the guy is in his 40's now. Time to admit a mistake, when you were young, and make amends now and move on in life.  I really don't care anymore, but anything I see from him he comes across as childish about this whole thing still.

06/19/2018 - 4:38pm The preseason stuff is…

The preseason stuff is mostly for water cooler and board talk. Sometimes it's even a reach just to generate clicks on a website.

Shea is a former 5 star and UM should have another top notch defense. So if he can make the offense clicks UM should have a very good season, which would mean he would also so why not might as well include him in the list.

06/19/2018 - 4:29pm It will be interesting to…

It will be interesting to see what happens this year as I think Winovich could become a 3 star win over Woodley and Hudson could be equal to Peppers or maybe even pass him up, which would make things a lot closer, more long the lines of 14-5-13 for 5 stars.

06/19/2018 - 9:27am I think Washington and the…

I think Washington and the PAC - 12 have a lot to prove, before I would be predicting them in the CFP.  That conference has been down for a couple of years now and not sure Washington is ready to make that kind of leap just yet.

I agree, I think it looks great and gives the field a little more updated look to it. Not too flashy, just the right amount.

I find watching this type of tourney fun to watch. -1 could easily win it, which I think is more exciting then watching guys shoot -20 for a tourney. Love see them struggle with a real challenge.

Great news. Don't care if a kid is a 5 star or a walk-on. If they are impressing and moving up the depth chart and can make UM better next year I love it. Having a great walk-on program can pay big dividends in the end.

Some kids just don't mature as fast as others. Sometimes it takes them a year or two of college before they come into their own, which has them over looked in high school.  Seems we have found a few diamonds in the rough with our walk on program.

06/14/2018 - 11:13am O/U of 9 seems about right…

O/U of 9 seems about right for us. Tough schedule. I would say anything above 9 wins and it will be a very successful season. Anything below 9 wins will be a disappointment for this team.

Tiger Woods makes Urban Meyer look like a great guy.  I am with you. Used to cheer for him until I met the guy and have spoken with many other people who have had similar experiences and realized the stories I have heard about him are all true.  He is as big of an ass as there is in professional sports and I hope he never wins another tourney.

Have told people who cheer for him, that if they ever met him they would never cheer for the guy again.

Also would love to see Phil finally get the US Open and complete his slam. Can't stand Tiger and hope he doesn't make the cut.

06/13/2018 - 4:24pm It happens. We have had walk…

It happens. We have had walk-on players become starters and big contributors over the years. For them to get there they have to passing up scholarship players. So it's not out of the realm of possibility some scholarship players are not in the top 110.

Players don't always develop like you think they might or take to the coaching like you hoped for and basically make no gains from where they were in high school  Then you can get some walk-ons that were slower in developing but after a couple of years of college really come into their own and can be a very good player.

South Bend doesn't shock me. That city is a dump.  Notre Dame has a beautiful campus, but you get off that campus and that city pretty much sucks.

Denver is a great place to live, but don't really want too many people to find out. We have enough people here as it is.

06/13/2018 - 4:16pm I don't really care for the…

I don't really care for the transfer rule. It's just basically make a free agent pool for players. Maybe a player doesn't like a coach that yelled at him so decides I'm transferring. Put his name in the database and it's then a free for all, go to the highest bidder, while still at your first school?

It will get to the point where you won't expect many players to stay at a school for 4 years. They will hear such and such a school will give you this, or classes are easier, or chicks are hotter and guys will be leaving schools left and right. Might be tough to maintain a roster.

It is the NFL that has the rule you must be three years removed from high school to be draft eligible. It has nothing to do with the NCAA and it is a good rule.

The new one seems kind of clunky and posts are not well formatted. I prefer the old one. Hopefully they can improve this site and work out the kinks.
