01/14/2019 - 8:51pm Exactly.  I imagine there…

Exactly.  I imagine there will be a handful of mid-level or below Power 5 schools interested in him.  There are always those schools who need more immediate help on the OL and/or who missed on an OT or two in this last cycle who would grab a somewhat proven commodity to take his place.

12/26/2018 - 8:31pm Jesus this blog has gotten…

Jesus this blog has gotten insufferable.  We have people the day after Christmas writing on a blog about a team whose New Years 6 bowl they don't care about. Let me reiterate - you people care so little about Michigan's bowl that you came onto a blog to write about it.

12/26/2018 - 8:20pm This whole thing about bowl…

This whole thing about bowl being meaningless is absurd.  Will you really not be watching it?  Does the fact that it won't be rescheduled make it meaningless?  If it were actually meaningless, do you think they'd play it at all?  You might not be into it, fine.  There are things all over the world that I am personally not into.  That does not make them meaningless.

I care about the bowl game.  It matters to me whether Michigan is in the Peach Bowl or the RedBox Bowl, or misses a bowl altogether.  And beating Florida is better than losing to them.  Therefore this game is not meaningless to me.  You can decide how much meaning it has for you, but stop making that decision for the rest of us.

12/16/2018 - 7:05pm I wish I was in your head…

I wish I was in your head when you thought "I have a comment that's not at all helpful but fuck this will be hilarious."  Great work.

12/16/2018 - 6:29pm I see that the article says …

I see that the article says "tonight" but considering it's already 6:30 on the east coast, do we have any more info as to what time tonight that is?

12/03/2018 - 8:45pm Although I agree with what…

Although I agree with what you're saying from a type of play standpoint (a defense's yack yardage shouldn't have anything to do with their run defense), but from the rules of football, a play is considered a running play until the QB throws the football forward.  If he never does (like in a sack), the play is, by definition, a run play.

12/03/2018 - 1:10pm I agree with this - there…

I agree with this - there needs to be some kind of incentive to get tickets used.  If I'm a season ticket holder, I'm going to go through the work needed to sell a couple tickets for $15 each, it's probably just not worth my time.  I think many season ticket holder accept that they'll eat a certain chunk of the tickets every year.  But you're right - if there is some sort of incentive in place, more ticket holders will deal with the work to sell them or at least find someone to give them away to.

You'd think the AD would like this incentive, since even giving away a ticket it good for the department since those people will almost certainly be spending money at the game.

12/03/2018 - 12:58pm Michigan St averages about…

Michigan St averages about 3k more per game than we do.  A lot of that is culture.  It's not all that different though.

12/03/2018 - 12:57pm Sure, but part of it is just…

Sure, but part of it is just the nature of the sport too.  Our attendance doesn't differ that much from most other schools, aside from the schools at the very top like Kentucky and Syracuse.  We ranked 33rd in attendance last year, and our attendance was hardly different from anyone outside the top 20.  Like others have said, most of the top 10 are the real "basketball schools" like Kansas, Kentucky, Syracuse, Louisville, Creighton (somewhat surprisingly) and Indiana.

And we're ahead of schools like Florida, Texas, Notre Dame, etc who are also football-first schools but often have good basketball teams.

12/03/2018 - 12:49pm I agree with this take as…

I agree with this take as well.

12/03/2018 - 12:48pm The other option is you can…

The other option is you can buy the cheaper upper bowl seats and almost certainly move down once the game starts.  That's not ideal, but it guarantees you don't pay too much for tickets and keeps you from having to spend time (and stress) looking outside the arena.

12/03/2018 - 12:28pm Well - that's like saying…

Well - that's like saying the artist for Under The Bridge should be Anthony Keidis and not Red Hot Chili Peppers.  Sure, Strongbad is merely the vocalist here, but it's a group effort.

12/03/2018 - 12:24pm You wouldn't know majesty if…

You wouldn't know majesty if it came up and bit you on the face.

12/02/2018 - 6:16pm In their defense, there are…

In their defense, there are a lot of completely true yet negative takes I have about athletes that I wouldn't say to their faces.  That doesn't make said take any less true.  i probably wouldn't tell Kareem Hunt my opinion of him to his face.  I don't see why that's the standard.

12/02/2018 - 6:14pm Absolutely.  I don't…

Absolutely.  I don't understand the notion of bowl games being meaningless.  They are great for recruiting and creating (or killing) momentum going into the offseason.  It's actually one of the biggest games of the season, most of the time.

It's hilarious how there are all of these threads (full of comments) about what bowl we're playing in, yet a bunch of posters calling it meaningless.  I don't get it.

12/02/2018 - 5:59pm I know this is an unpopular…

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I get upset about it.  I'm all for fulfilling your commitment.  He wants to leave a year early, fine.  But finish out the season.

And to be honest, he hasn't exactly had a stellar college career.  He never became the player people thought he would be and spent much of this season injured.  Having a big game against a good opponent actually could help his stock quote a bit.  There are many other good DL that will likely go ahead of him.

12/02/2018 - 5:53pm You're right.  So players…

You're right.  So players should sit out every game where injury is a possibility.

12/02/2018 - 3:13pm Did we already know Rashan…

Did we already know Rashan Gary is out?  That's fucking lame, I hate that trend.

12/02/2018 - 2:57pm App St has always been in D1…

App St has always been in D1, like Princeton.  So it's likely you're just not paying attention outside of Power 5.  Not uncommon, most likely.  But odd that you'd recognize other teams in their league as D1 but not them.

12/02/2018 - 12:33pm So stop I guess?  Not sure…

So stop I guess?  Not sure why this is our problem.

12/02/2018 - 12:32pm Yeah - that's only one of…

Yeah - that's only one of the problems with this plan.

The annoying thing here is that everyone thinks the "system" sucks in a year where the results weren't perfect.  The point of a conference championship game is to determine the champion.  Michigan had their chance against OSU, and they lost.  Washington St had their chance against Washington and they lost. Yes, it's odd that some of the division winners this year were mediocre teams, but that's an anomoly, not the norm.  Chill out.

12/02/2018 - 12:26pm Notre Dame was on the road,…

Notre Dame was on the road, at night, first game of the year. ND clearly has a great defense and our QB was playing his first game in this system.  It wasn't the best offensive game ever, but it's hard to hold that one against Pep.

12/02/2018 - 12:22pm That's a little surprising,…

That's a little surprising, only because Princeton has made some noise in the NCAA bball tourney in recent past, but also a ton back in the day (not that I saw it, but it gets discussed a lot, as well as the "Princeton offense").  And I assume you don't follow lacrosse, but Princeton lacrosse is historically very strong.  But yeah, the Ivy League is an athletic conference, in division 1.

12/02/2018 - 11:57am No doubt about that, but…

No doubt about that, but having a larger department makes it all the more impressive.  Having those additional sports does them no good if those sports aren't having any success, but Stanford is very good at having success with a large proportion of their teams.

12/02/2018 - 11:56am We're 3 sports in.

It's…

We're 3 sports in.

It's totally without meaning to you.  Which would make it a good board topic for you to ignore.  Yet here you are making multiple posts about something without any meaning.  Huh.

12/02/2018 - 11:32am It measures the overall…

It measures the overall quality/success of a school's athletic department.  As a Michigan fan, I put a lot of weight in lists like this because it sets us apart from the Alabamas of the world who care a ton about football but have like 8 other total sports in their AD.

12/02/2018 - 11:17am Honestly Stanford always…

Honestly Stanford always wins and usually by a wide margin.  In my opinion, coming in second in these standings is a huge win.

12/02/2018 - 11:14am You're right in that it…

You're right in that it doesn't mean much to the "fans" who only watch two sports, but to most M fans I know (granted, most are alumni) that's not the case.  There was a post yesterday about M volleyball (where we should get some points in these standings), the blog does a TON about softball and I personally follow lacrosse, swimming and often wrestling pretty closely.

I'm trying not to come off as a prick in this post, but don't be one of those people who think no one cares about something just because you and your friends don't.  The Director's Cup has always gotten a lot of interest on this blog, obviously there's something to it.

12/02/2018 - 11:09am Agreed - why is that weird? …

Agreed - why is that weird?  You know there are a lot of sports where going pro isn't an option so the top academic schools excel.  Not sure why that's so weird.

12/02/2018 - 11:07am Agreed - the depth thing…

Agreed - the depth thing worries me more than the FT shooting (though both are concerns).  Basketball isn't football, but we still see injuries and if one of those starters goes out for a few weeks we could be in trouble.  We have Austin Davis in case Teske goes down, and maybe Brandon Johns if Iggy or Livers goes down, but we really don't have another option at 1-3 who has shown anything if Z/Poole/Matthews/Brooks are out for a bit.

12/02/2018 - 10:56am Not in a million years and I…

Not in a million years and I don't even understand why this is being discussed.

Yes, OSU played in a conference championship game.  Against fucking Northwestern.  And ND beat them by more.  No chance it's happening.

12/02/2018 - 10:53am We could decline our bowl…

We could decline our bowl invite, but then we'd get pushed to the next lower bowl and I can't imagine we would do that.

12/01/2018 - 9:03pm The big difference is that…

The big difference is that being a 2 seed might mean you have to get by one of the best team in the country just to get to the Final Four.  Sure, you'd have to get by them eventually, but the later you have to means a) your team made it farther, and b) it gives that hard team one more chance to get upset by someone else.

12/01/2018 - 1:20pm That's what I'm hoping for…

That's what I'm hoping for as well.  It's the Rose Bowl, it's near my house, and it's a winnable game against Washington which have been fun match ups for us in the past.

11/23/2018 - 3:50pm Q's is far better.  Parlor…

Q's is far better.  Parlor is a shared game watch bar - there will be a few other schools hosting their game watch at that bar.  Q's is 100% Michigan and is a much bigger bar.  Personal issue with Parlor is that it's really expensive and Q's is more bar-like pricing.

I'll be at Q's tomorrow.

11/07/2018 - 12:19pm Yeah, I'll pile on here. …

Yeah, I'll pile on here.  These players didn't grow up being enemies of each other, and many of them became friends through the process.  This is a complete non-issue.  Like the other posters said, if Shea is sharing info that the OSU coaches/scouts couldn't uncover themselves, we should feel very good about our game against them.

11/04/2018 - 12:23pm Agreed - I really want the…

Agreed - I really want the Rose Bowl too. I moved to LA almost 12 years ago - 2 months AFTER our last Rose Bowl appearance. I’m fucking due.

Cool name, btw

11/04/2018 - 9:46am MSU already has 2 conference…

MSU already has 2 conference losses so we’d have to lose all three final games (including Rutgers) for Sparty to go to the Big Ten champ game.

10/29/2018 - 11:28am I agree with this whole post…

I agree with this whole post.  USC has so much more talent than the rest of their league it isn't funny. Yes, Helton managed to win it, but that's when he had Sam Darnold who he inherited (and didn't even want to start originally).  I was always interested to see what the Helton era would look like at SC post-Darnold, and it's not looking great both from an on-field standpoint and from a recruiting standpoint.  It's getting late early for USC recruiting in 2018, and their record isn't helping that at all.

10/29/2018 - 11:23am Pete Carroll will be 68 next…

Pete Carroll will be 68 next season.  USC is not doing that and neither is Carroll.

10/28/2018 - 4:23pm If we win out, no way we…

If we win out, no way we miss the playoff.  Chill.

10/28/2018 - 4:22pm You think OSU/MSU/PSU is a…

You think OSU/MSU/PSU is a gauntlet, but Bama has a cakewalk?  LSU/TAMU/Auburn is just as hard and they also have Miss St and a very tough Georgia in the SEC champ game. We will almost certainly have an unranked Big Ten champ game opponent.  It's not that different. You guys complain about this stuff way too much.

10/28/2018 - 1:18pm Agreed.  Even more reason…

Agreed.  Even more reason for the line to favor us.

10/28/2018 - 1:12pm I think this is pretty close…

I think this is pretty close, but if I had to go one way or another, I'd say it -7 or more.  We are definitely the better team and it's at home.  We were a full TD fave @ MSU and Vegas loves home teams.

10/28/2018 - 1:10pm Agreed on fuck Georgia but…

Agreed on fuck Georgia but that will work itself out.  Still, cheer for them to lose to UK or Auburn to avoid any SEC chaos.

10/28/2018 - 11:04am 21 or fewer

But yeah, obvi…

21 or fewer

But yeah, obvi that means we win

10/27/2018 - 12:59pm Having Villain get healthy…

Having Villain get healthy and be productive would be huge.  We need another DE to allow Paye to start at SDE.  Paye/Hutchinson at SDE would be incredible if Villain/Uche can man WDE.  The also allows Hinton to move inside (which he will most certainly do anyway) to give us better depth at the tackle spots.

10/26/2018 - 2:37pm No, Lewerke was clearly…

No, Lewerke was clearly injured. I know our defense is good, but dude couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn against us and he’s a pretty solid QB when healthy. And they pulled Lewerke for Lombardi when they presumably still had a shot to win. He’s injured.

10/14/2018 - 2:35pm I agree that beating PSU on…

I agree that beating PSU on the road is impressive, but they also have two losses to unranked teams, one at home.  To be ranked higher you need a bit of consistency.
