On a somewhat related note, my BIL and I were talking about it and figured that if soccer were THE top sport in the US (as opposed to football and basketball - even baseball), we would absolutely be a dominant nation. Can you imagine all our top athletes being funneled into soccer academies instead of football programs and AAU basketball?

As owner, isn't he basically mega-mod?

(sidenote: GIS for megamod gives you a bunch of 3D semi-truck mods; searching for megamoderator returns a bunch of firearms/assault rifle images. So yeah)

Don't really follow WSOP these days, but will try to catch it since we have a UM alum.

Years back (2006, I think), a buddy of mine who is a Ross graduate finished #14 in the WSOP and ended up taking home over $900k. Good times.

And I always forget to make my URLs into hyperlinks because the site won't do it automatically, dang it!!

07/10/2018 - 2:31pm I am a wagon guy, also, but…

I am a wagon guy, also, but more of the "traditional" wagon. I really like the look of the Regal TourX. I LOVE the look of the Volvo V90, but that's way out of my price range (I don't even think about/consider cars like the Jaguar XF Sportbrake or MB E-series).  New Volvo V60 looks great, but a bit on the smaller side, like the Golf Sportwagen, and still pricey.

Then again, I only have a family of 4 and our other car is a minivan, so a 5 seater works just fine for our situation.

I did rent the Flex on a family vacation some years back and thought it was a pretty good family hauler. More car-like than SUV's for sure, which I appreciated.

Mbappe is SO FAST. It's impressive watching him take the ball down the field pulling away from defenders who are at a flat sprint.

Thanks for the minor correction. Vegas says that Michigan has the 2nd best odds amongst Big Ten teams of WINNING the CFP. I've bolded the Big Ten teams (plus nd) below and, oh, look. Michigan plays them all...

Alabama 11/4

Clemson 6/1

Georgia 15/2

Ohio State 15/2

Michigan 9/1

Penn State 11/1

Oklahoma 18/1

Auburn 20/1

Texas 20/1

Miami 22/1

Wisconsin 22/1

LSU 25/1

Michigan State 25/1

Notre Dame 33/1

Thanks for this. I'm not a DetNews subscriber and would have missed this. Found the URL:

Well, it does seem that Vegas has us with the 3rd best odds for winning the Big Ten title, ahead of PSU and msu and after osu/Wisco, and 2nd best odds from the Big Ten to make the CFP (after osu)

07/09/2018 - 9:53am And this is another …

And this is another "enhancement opportunity" for the new site. It should be able to recognize URLs and automatically create hyperlinks rather than folks not realizing (or remembering) that they need to click the hyperlink button and enter the URL. This issue is further compounded by the fact that we cannot edit posts and "fix" the URL issue.

I don't blame the OP in this case. Practically every other web forum I use auto-creates the hyperlinks for you.

I don't follow BB recruiting that closely. Are all these guys prospects? Any of them committed?

Nah, he's been writing about AA politics on rare occasions for a while. But let's be frank. AA politics are far less polarizing on this blog because a majority of us do not live in/around AA.

I'm rooting for crosses/logos over horizontal stripes in the lower half of the bracket, and logos over vertical stripes in the top half.

Symmetry is a tie-breaker.

07/02/2018 - 10:57am That's mostly due to the…

That's mostly due to the larger class. Michigan has 19 commits to osu's 13. If you look at average player ratings, osu is at 92.57 vs. Michigan at 89.92. Basically, we have way more 3 stars currently committed.

Then you look at a team like Georgia, which 247 ranks 13th. However, they only have 10 players in the class, with three 5 stars and seven 4 stars and an average player rating of 95.16. That's a quality class, based purely on the numbers.

tl;dr Numbers are numbers. Doesn't mean our class is necessarily better and, at the end of the day, it doesn't really mean anything as long as we get the right kids for our program.

06/27/2018 - 4:26pm The thing that strikes me…

The thing that strikes me about this map is that Team Chaos is finally making some waves. Granted, they look bigger than they are because they're in the big middle sections of the country, but they were down to a single territory at one point.

Argentina wasn't always pretty, but they did come alive somewhat yesterday. Messi finally scored, anyway, after looking a bit out of it previously.

Can't decide whether to laugh or cringe. Is guilty cringe-laughing a thing?

Dangit, Mexico. You had ONE job. Beat Sweden. With Korea pulling off the two stoppage time goals (which WHAT????), had Mexico beaten Sweden, Korea would have advanced.

Regardless, fun World Cup so far. Been only paying attention to Mexico, Argentina, Korea, Brazil, Germany, Spain, and Portugal. I guess that's a lot :)

A QB "room?" Is this a new thing? Are they next going to start ranking "rooms" for other position groups?

IANAL, but I suppose that may be true legally.

However, they are a great voice that people will acknowledge and listen to. It's clear that Engler had and continues to have a particular attitude and perspective toward these whole proceedings. If this is how he thinks of and talks about verified victims of repeated sexual assault, he will have little credibility as the leader who crafts new policies, procedures, and especially culture around sexual assault on this campus. "You got your pound of flesh, so get over it" is not exactly the foundation on which you should want to build.

06/20/2018 - 7:56am Sort posts on the MGoBoard…
  1. Sort posts on the MGoBoard by most recent comment rather than created date. If you have a very active topic, but then it's two days old, it drops off the front page. The very active topics/posts should be kept at the top.
  2. I second the request to open hyperlinks into new tabs (rather than a new window). It is annoying to have to remember to right-click the link ONLY IN MGOBLOG to open in a new tab. Practically every other site I use does this.
  3. Everything at the top of the page is too big. Between the ad space, MGoBlog header, and those front page story boxes, that's an entire screen worth of real estate, with more than half of it not really adding any value. I get that the ads won't change, but the banner could definitely be smaller, as could the story boxes. Reduce the height of those by 25-35% - although maybe all we'd add to the screen is the next ad above the most recent front-page post. Maybe the banner height is also a function of the user control panel box?
  4. Speaking of which, the user CP box is pretty useless. I can't actually see anything about myself other than points. Why is the only way to see my info to find a post I've made and then click on my username? I should be able to do it from the user CP box.

06/19/2018 - 12:25pm Even his latest statement…

Even his latest statement shows that he's all about the money. His response to the criticism is that the tensions are in the past because they got paid. Not a single iota of sympathy.

Were you going for "Perles of wisdom" here, most likely in a very ironic fashion?

I figured that out a bit late in my post re: calls for Engler to step down. Now, if you can show me how to edit my OP...

06/15/2018 - 11:23am Indeed. How arrogant this…

Indeed. How arrogant this guy is...

"I continue to look ahead. Whatever the tensions were before, we have successfully negotiated a settlement agreement — something that is fair and equitable to both sides, and that both sides agreed to," Engler said. "We are now committed to continuing our efforts to strengthen sexual misconduct prevention on and off campus and to respond promptly to and appropriately if prevention fails.

I am looking forward to the Board of Trustee meeting next week where we will continue our progress and efforts to move forward. I believe actions matter, and that is how the success of our work will be determined."

More things that have probably already been mentioned.

  • Cannot edit comments
  • Comments section doesn't show new/unread comments or indicate number of new/unread comments.

Enhancement suggestions:

  • Would be nice to see who started a board post, similar to how the diary poster's name is below the diary topic.
  • Put an indicator for the OP in the comments section. If I created a board post then commented later on, it should have an indicator that I am the OP. Many boards/forums do this, including Reddit (among MANY others). I personally like this feature.

The rule is that RED is BAD. Think about it throughout history. You have the Redcoats oppressing the American colonies. Red China. The Soviets. The very existence of the buckeyes.

Nice job of posting half the story, making it seem like they're doing away with the math requirement altogether.

In fact, they're dropping the primarily online remedial math course and replacing it with two new math classes which are done in person. Also, the remedial class didn't count toward grad credits, while the new classes do.

06/06/2018 - 9:09am A few other things, at least…

A few other things, at least a couple of which have been posted already:

  • Changing the post count to 100 doesn't seem to do anything. 25 and 50 work, but not 100.
  • If you're on the main page, you can see the number of comments associated with each post. If you actually go into the post, you can no longer see the number of comments anywhere at the top. I liked that so I could just click the "xx comments" and jump straight to comments, instead of having to scroll down.
  • Need link to browse diaries. For now, can only see the most recently posted diaries.
  • Need a "my account" link somewhere at the top where it shows your username and posting options. It's a pain to have to click on your own name in a comment in order to get to it.

Anyone else notice that still takes you to the faux geocities site? Need the "www" in order to get to the updated site. Intentional? Will eventually just point to For now, get your geocities fix in, while it lasts.

05/29/2018 - 10:53pm I have two not represented

I have two not represented here. One of them was just mentioned by pasadenablue - Michigan Sports Center.

The other was one of the originals out there, I think - Vijay from i Blog for Cookies.

Otherwise, you got the dozen or two I used to follow at various points.

05/29/2018 - 4:08pm I remember driving between

I remember driving between Atlanta and Ann Arbor in the mid-90s and filling up premium for less than a dollar a gallon. Crazy times.

My car (2003 Infiniti I35) gets about 20-21mpg city, probably about 27mpg highway.

I'm strongly considering the Buick Regal TourX as my next car, but I do wish it had better fuel economy. It's not terrible (rated 21 city/29 hwy), but hardly better than my current car. If only it were 10% better....

This is honestly what is keeping me considering a sedan of some sort (not a fan of SUVs or CUVs). The new Accord, Camry, and Mazda 6 all look pretty great and it's hard to justify getting a wagon because wagons are cool (imho), when there are sedans out there with better features and fuel economy for less.

I still have time to decide, at least, since I won't be buying a car until we're done paying off the minivan (September can't come fast enough!). I'll also probably wait at least a year for a used  or late MY 2018 before/as the 2019's hit the dealer lots.

05/29/2018 - 1:00pm UF and GT owned the Southeast

UF and GT owned the Southeast a week or so ago. I think UF was hit particularly hard by Team Chaos and GT... I don't even know. Hopefully, GT and Clemson can fortify the mid-Atlantic and Appalachia, while UF and UT fend off Chaos, Bama, and osu in the southeast.

Serriously, though, I was wondering that myself. jer-MON or JER-mun?

And is his brother jeh-MON?

05/23/2018 - 2:49pm '91 Honda Accord LX, white

'91 Honda Accord LX, white with blue interior.

It stayed with me through HS (hand-me-down from my sister, actually) and college. My record was fitting 9 people in it. A bunch of us went to watch a movie at the Showtime on Carpenter. Afterward, we discovered that several of them had been DROPPED OFF and had no ride back. B/c I was lazy and efficient, I decided that we could fit 9 people in there. I was driving, we had the three smallest girls in the front passenger seat (and actually kinda of on the center console); 4 across in the back, and 2 more on their laps.

I was low-ridin' that night in a major way. Sketchiest part was going by Washtenaw where it splits off with Stadium b/c there was often a cop sitting around there. Fortunately, we made it back to campus without incident.

Also got me and my sister home to Atlanta during winter break, December 1995 when a huge blizzard hit most of Ohio. We got stuck in that blizzard. Took us about 9 hours to get to Cincy from AA - normally a 4 to 4.5 hour drive. Took another 6 hours to get home to Atlanta, so that was a ROUGH day.

Can't leave out the road trips to Colorado, Chicago, and Cocoa Beach.
