Exit Jaron Dukes, Reon Dawson, Maybe Freddy Canteen
Dukes caught the only TD of last year's spring game against Dennis Norfleet
Per Harbaugh:
Jaron Dukes and Reon Dawson are 'medically retiring,' per Harbaugh. Mo Ways suffered a broken bone in his foot recently. Out a few months.

Per harbaugh Freddy canteen had surgery on his shoulder. Waiting for results to see if he can continue with his career

The departures of Dukes and Dawson bring Michigan to or under 85 depending on the status of the as-yet-unsigned Dytarious Johnson; if Canteen does not make it back they'd be at 84 and able to issue a scholarship to Ryan Glasgow.
I thought after the Pipkins case it was clear that Harbaugh didn't have a say in it. That should definitely be the school policy for every sport.

No one affiliated with the university should have any say in it.
Say what? How do you propose to administer the program, then? Random people picked off th street?
The medical staff should be independent from the athletic department, but they are going to be university employees, and it is going to be a medical decision.
Independent medical staff paid through the NCAA.
Even if you were to ask both parties, you wouldn't necessarily have a consensus. You might have two medical opinions, one says the player has risk if he continues to play, the other no risk. At that point, it's up to the coach who receives info from the docs and perhaps even the legal staff.
Remember, we seem to be allowing all medical departures to finish their degree at Michigan, and most of this is happening in early spring, unlike what Saban and some others do, when these decisions are made after fall practice commences.
Had irrationally high hopes for Reon Dawson
Kids have the option to transfer, and from Michigan they could go a lot of places. I think when they get a medical retirement at Michigan, it's because they are really hurt.

They want to PLAY their sport, it's what they've been doing their whole lives. And they should.
A friggin' college degree from Michigan isn't crap if you don't live in Michigan.
Not to mention, look at all the "degreed" fanboys here. All kinds of "graduates"--and what has it gotten them?
45,000 sissy points and sitting on a message board their whole lives. Wow.
A Michigan degree means nothing if you don't live in Michigan? Really?

I really dislike this logic. Glasgow's family's ability to pay should have nothing to do with him getting a scholarship.
For example: Two employees are performing the same job and you only have the budget to give one a raise. Does the employee with less assets deserve the raise, or the one with better job performance?

Reon Dawson is a name I haven't heard in a while. Best of luck to all for a bright future.
There's a remarkable correlation between being a disappointment when healthy and suffering these career-ending injuries, ever since Harbaugh showed up. Really fabulous good luck from the perspective of roster management.
Do you want to know what remarkable correlation I've noticed? When somebody really wants to believe something, they're pretty much going to believe it. And nothing is really going to sway them.

someone done went and challenged God.
He had played and started a decent part of the year before he got hurt, and you can never have enough tackles. And as we saw, depth on the front line wasn't great once Glasgow went down.

he was healthy. The only evidence is in Harbaugh's mind.

So no more calling out Saban on this stuff anymore? Cool, glad we established that.
St. Saban Memorial Hospital jokes now off limits?

There is a difference between "life isn't fair" (and I am sorry that you think your life isn't fair, but that's beside the point) and "a school should be able to yank a scholarship at any time." The relationship between the player and the school is not reciprocal in any other way, so there is no need to insist that it be reciprocal in the ability to give up or rescind a scholarship.
If you really want to be a fan of a team that will win at all costs, then you should pay the cost of giving up your Michigan fan card and find a team that wins more and cares less.
