Do you know if there's awareness of this potential issue on Harbaugh's part and if he's made any changes to help prevent it from happening? I get the whole "wanting it" thing which is absolutely necessary to be successful at that level, but if we lose a good kid just because lack of communication that seems like a problem.

In this scenario though the kid is sitting out when he’s not really hurt.   I get people know there own bodies but if it’s clear there’s no desire to return and help the team win then that’s a waste of a scholarship.  People will say that the school makes a bunch of money off the sport(true) so who cares if one player swipes a scholarship from them but the real person who loses is the kid that scholarship would go to if the unmotivated kid wasn’t in his way.  My rant is now over thanks for reading.

Harbaugh's pretty damn good at the hiring coaches thing and FWIW on vetting this guy Sean Magee was the player personnel guy at Navy for most of Nua's time there before he took the same role at Michigan.

We all said we hoped Harbaugh hires young, up and coming coaches with something to prove. Well he sure as hell did that. I have no comment on Nua, but he fits the mold of what most of us wanted. I will give Harbaugh an A (on paper) for the hires he made.

No doubt that Washington and Mattison were/are good coaches, but fuck them. I firmly believe this is exactly what Michigan needs. These young guys will renenergize the players and hopefully they look like they are having fun playing again.

Only time will tell how everything works, but I am a hell of a lot more optimistic now than I was a couple of weeks/months ago.

To say that this is going to be an interesting year may be the understatement of the year. But we say that every year, so, there is nothing particularly Nua about that.

I believe bringing in all these young coaches will be just fine...but Harbaugh and Brown have their work cut out for themselves...bringing along both the players and the coaches.

UMICH1606 can eat crow.

UMBig11 commented yesterday that Nua had an offer and would make a decision by the end of the week. In response to this, UMICH1606 said:

Will people see you for the fraud that you are when this is proven false?

And now, lo and behold, UMBig11's info was proven correct.

Will UMICH1606 acknowledge this?

No need to call him out my friend. They know who they are. Anyway, major props to my friend Brandon Justice. You guys should follow or subscribe to this youngster (@TheWolverineLounge). If I could share the email trail with you, you would be impressed. He had direct contact with those involved.

Only had to filter through the first 15-16 comments to get to any conversation about the actual subject matter.

Well done MGBLOG!

Good hire though.

Anybody notice on the football Coaches page that Don Brown is listed as both DC and Linebackers coach?  Seems like they need to now officially assign defensive roles for 2019 given they have Nua for DL.  Right now positions via UM's football page are:

  • Don Brown = DC / LBs
  • Campanile = No position listed
  • Partridge = STC / S
  • Zordich = CBs

I don't pretend to know more than our staff and certainly have no idea how he is on recruiting, but here are ASU's DL stats:
Line yards - 83rd; Std. Down Line Yards - 75th; Pass. Down LY - 87th; Opp. Rate - 123rd(!); Power Success Rate - 104th; Stuff Rate - 68th; Sack Rate 90th; Std. Downs Sack Rate - 79th; Pass. Downs Sack Rate 90th.

Before you ask, no, it's not an improvement over 2017, in fact it's quite a regression in sack rate and does not compare favorably.

Don't like fancystats?  How about this: only 29 sacks for the defense and only 13.5 for all combined DL.  I'm not sure what his other history demonstrates, but this is not great.
