01/19/2019 - 10:39am Yeah I'd prefer not to take…

Yeah I'd prefer not to take a giant 2019 WR class because that will make it really hard to get any blue chip guys in 2020 as we saw in 2018. And it just means someone from the 2019 class will eventually transfer and we would be back in the same spot.

01/19/2019 - 9:40am Interesting that were still…

Interesting that were still looking to add up to 4 guys. RB, WR, CB/S, DT. I think I'd be fine with just the RB and DT. Don't really see a need for another WR right now.

01/18/2019 - 3:22pm These two programs have…

These two programs have evolved into mirror images of each other.

Is it just me or is the phrase "mirror image" used in sports to denote both teams that are very similar and teams that are complete opposites. There are a lot of people on this blog who get up in arms about idioms (bury the lede, beg the question, etc) so maybe they can help out on this one. What is the correct usage of the term?

01/18/2019 - 10:33am Yeah I'm expecting this to…

Yeah I'm expecting this to he announced soon. Surprised a small Florida school has not gambled on making him a full time coach yet.

01/17/2019 - 11:25am Yeah the 3rd clip in that…

Yeah the 3rd clip in that Shap analysis really isn't that different than the first 2, Davis sags way off the guy, except the 3rd time the guy passes up the shot so all of the sudden: 'he has corrected his defense.'

What I do think those clips show is that Davis is much more comfortable being in the paint as he tends to sink back into the key on all those PnRs. Which doesn't surprise me that much for a traditional big man coming from a small school where he probably just overpowered everyone in the paint in HS. Seems like a mental thing that can still be worked out. At this point, I still think Davis can be a useful piece as an upper classman, backup C in the B1G.

01/16/2019 - 9:47pm I'm still trying to figure…

I'm still trying to figure out what his deal is. His posts are always bizarre and full of !!! And ???

01/16/2019 - 9:38pm I'll give him a B. Hes been…

I'll give him a B. Hes been good at keeping Beilein and Harbaugh happy and allowing them to hire who they want. He handled the hockey hire and other non rev sports hires well. He's kind of let Harbaugh and Beilein do their own thing. Which leads me to my biggest issue, he's not assertive enough when dealing with entities outside the university. He let ND walk all over him. He promised to fix the MSU/OSU home/away disaster and hasn't. Michigan sports are the cash cow of the big ten and we need to be a bigger bully in the conference. Look at how Texas treats the big 12 and how ND treats the ACC. Stop getting pushed around and start making demands.

01/16/2019 - 9:30pm Good point on tv stuff. You…

Good point on tv stuff. You would think Michigan hockey (and other teams like baseball maybe) could get on TV more. Fox sports Detroit has 2 channels and basically only plays wings and pistons games. There has to be air time for Michigan sports.

Disagree on him not increasing Harbaughs assistant pool. Harbaugh and Beilein have basically had carte blanche to sign any assistants they want. This is how you end up with Pep being one of the highest paid assistants in the country. I don't remember a coach leaving because we wouldnt pay a fair value.

01/16/2019 - 5:01pm You said there were 6…

You said there were 6 candidates for the job. Any insight as to where Nua was on that list in terms of 1st choice, 2nd choice, etc.? And was Nua the only one to actually receive an offer?

01/15/2019 - 3:03pm 31 regular season games and…

31 regular season games and If they get a top 4 seed in the conference then a max of 3 tournament games so at 17-0 we are halfway through the regular season. To get a 1 seed in March you need a minimum of 27 wins in a chaos filled year but probably closer to 30 and some form of conference championship this year. So what's everyones final record prediction at the halfway point? I want to say 30-4 but even that feels a little bearish at this point.

01/15/2019 - 1:15pm Gets happy feet in the…

Gets happy feet in the pocket, doesn't set his feet before delivering. do not want.

01/14/2019 - 6:55pm Last summer he had the…

Last summer he had the experience over Stueber, Hudson, and others. That practice experience advantage erodes quickly. He was ahead of JBB because there were rumors JBB wasn't taking practice seriously enough. By midseason they made the switch to JBB and didn't look back.

Either way expected firm handshake here, best of luck to him, hopefully he finds a good landing spot.

01/14/2019 - 12:36pm 2020 could be another 5 man…

2020 could be another 5 man recruiting class. Teske, Davis, Simpson all graduate. Poole and Iggy probably gone to the NBA.

01/11/2019 - 10:55pm This made me want to check…

This made me want to check up on Calvin Anderson the Rice transfer we went after but ultimately ended up choosing Texas. As far as I can tell his draft stock seems to have slipped to being a likely 4th Rd pick.

01/11/2019 - 10:14am Yes I thought Brooks should…

Yes I thought Brooks should have come in for Poole more. The pace of the game seemed to wear on Poole. He was 2-10 shooting and started to stand around a lot more in the 2nd half than he usually does.

01/11/2019 - 10:10am Was thinking the same thing…

Was thinking the same thing about those turn around jumpers. He looks so fluid with the ball right up until he releases the shot.

01/10/2019 - 6:08pm Also saw this factoid:…

Also saw this factoid: Dantonio has had 4 OCs as a head coach. 3(!!) are currently on his staff. The one he had at Cincinnati and his first few years at MSU coached DBs last year.

Talk about a guy who really really does not like change.

01/10/2019 - 5:58pm Someone should edit the OP…

Someone should edit the OP to summarize the press conference.

01/10/2019 - 4:21pm Yep exactly what I am…

Yep exactly what I am thinking. Harbaugh needs a young guy to infuse new stuff into the offense and the young guy still needs some seasoning calling plays under an offensive head coach. Everybody wins.

01/10/2019 - 4:06pm I don't expect Harbaugh to…

I don't expect Harbaugh to reduce his role. Which I think actually makes this the perfect OC hire. You blend a young (inexperienced) guy with new ideas with the offensive minded HC. His lack of experience running his own offense isn't as big of a deal as it would be with a defensive minded coach. On the other side, Harbaugh isn't giving up complete control of his offense (because he never will) like he would have to do with a guy like for example Canada, who has been an OC long enough that he expects total autonomy.

01/10/2019 - 4:02pm His son plays there…

His son plays there. Sparties want Warinner as their OC.

01/10/2019 - 3:56pm This is a good hire and very…

This is a good hire and very interesting because we lose 2 defensive coaches and announce an offensive coach first...This has to mean that Pep is either out or becoming only QB coach. In which case Jay would move to LBs?

Also glad to bring in a good recruiter. According to 247 hes a top 25 recruiter in the country (although only 5th best on Bama's staff...they recruit themselves).

With regards to "hes never called plays before": hes coming into a situation where the head coach is an offensive guy. So I think he will be fine, its not like he's being thrown to the wolves with no support. Hiring the young (inexperienced), offensive mind is the new hotness and I'd rather see Michigan get in on that craze in order to infuse new ideas into the offense, as opposed to hiring a 55 year old NFL guy.

01/10/2019 - 2:45pm So is UGA going to fight the…

So is UGA going to fight the eligibility and claim that they sufficiently solved the problem? Because I think that is a big piece of this. Remember Ole Miss fought Shea's eligibility for awhile before finally giving up and conceeding.

01/10/2019 - 2:42pm Will the whole story come…

Will the whole story come out then? Are NCAA cases public record or is he protected by privacy laws?

01/10/2019 - 11:08am He's a love him or hate him…

He's a love him or hate him kind of guy. Logan Brown apparently thought he was awkward as hell and that's something that doesn't get talked about on here (everyone claims he was a Wisconsin fan since childhood). Harbaughs personality is going to get you guys like David Long and Aubret Solomon who appreciate the genuineness, and lose you guys like Logan Brown.

01/09/2019 - 11:04pm Yeah I was surprised they…

Yeah I was surprised they were that high. There are several pac12 teams below them.

01/09/2019 - 9:35pm Rutgers 117 on kenpom and 97…

Rutgers 117 on kenpom and 97 on torvik

01/09/2019 - 9:27pm He won't flip. His brother…

He won't flip. His brother did the same thing. Committed super early and never wavered. I get the sense they are pretty no nonsense.

01/09/2019 - 5:53pm Yes why would he leave…

Yes why would he leave Oklahoma? He grew up in Oklahoma and played QB for OU. He's also apparently assistant HC and recruiting coordinator. Hard to offer him anything better in the way of titles. The only possibility is if we doubled or tripled his salary and/or he had a recent falling out with Lincoln Riley after getting passed over by his younger counter part.

01/08/2019 - 4:05pm Didnt Harbaugh not retain…

Didnt Harbaugh not retain Manning when he became HC? I dont see him coming back here under Harbaugh.

01/08/2019 - 3:24pm Might be hard to pull a…

Might be hard to pull a former team captain away from his alma mater. Unless his salary is ridiculously low.

01/08/2019 - 2:55pm Thought the same thing.

DL …

Thought the same thing.

DL - Tray Scott ($420k, Georgia), Ikaika Malloe ($355k, Washington), Dennis Johnson ($180k, 30, LSU)

LB - Glenn Schumann ($325k, 29, Georgia), Antonio Pierce ($300k, 40, ASU), Tommy Thigpen ($405k, 47, UNC)

Some of those guys have to be available. I guess Dennis Johnson is a former LSU walkon so hes probably a no.

01/08/2019 - 12:36pm Also we had to promise…

Also we had to promise Partridge DC in waiting to keep him from bama. Couldn't do the same a year later with Washington. OSU can promote him to co-DC next year when Mattison retires.

01/08/2019 - 12:32pm Everyone is saying "why hire…

Everyone is saying "why hire guys from a D you scored 62 on?" This is only about recruiting. Day said he wants guys that can recruit. X's and Os don't matter to him, he wants assistants that recruit. Hopefully they squander talent and this blows up in his face. Hopefully Harbaugh finds great replacements.

01/08/2019 - 11:33am Playoff committee needs to…

Playoff committee needs to take a hard line against teams that schedule FCS schools. With a cap on the number you can play in a 5 year span.

Conferences or the NCAA need to mandate OOC scheduling. Something like an ACC-B1G challenge yearly would go a long way. Force every P5 team to play at least 1 P5 OOC game. Alternating home and away. The committee has essentially said G5 teams don't count for the playoff, yet they allow wins over those same teams to mean something in the rankings.

Since none of this will ever happen, Michigan should schedule an FCS school the week before Ohio State. It will take B1G teams doing it to make the SEC go up in arms and push back.

01/08/2019 - 11:20am I've had it with this dump,…

I've had it with this dump, we got no food, got no jobs, our coaches heads are falling off!

01/07/2019 - 9:13pm Mazi Smith is the only…

Mazi Smith is the only recruit I recall bringing up Mattison in interviews. I checked 247 and he's only listed as the primary recruiter for Mike Morris. So yeah real down year for his recruiting ability.

Edit: you really have to go back to 2017 when he was active on the recruiting trail, picking up: Jeter, paea, Hudson, DIB, and CMH.

01/07/2019 - 3:19pm I was expecting Bush Sr to…

I was expecting Bush Sr to leave since his son is going to the NFL. But promoting him to safety coach and getting him on the recruiting trail seems like a great idea.

01/07/2019 - 1:53pm If Brown goes to Temple and…

If Brown goes to Temple and Harbaugh hypothetically would have promoted Mattison to DC instead of doing a national search and landing a relatively young, hot name, up and comer everyone on this blog would have lost their minds.

01/07/2019 - 1:27pm How long can get…

How long can he realistically continue to coach for? The DC has more responsibility and he's been thinking about retiring for a few years now. Does this mean that we can tell all the recruits Matty is retiring since OSU has been telling recruits that for 5 years?

01/07/2019 - 10:13am Yeah didn't we promise Dax…

Yeah didn't we promise Dax that Brown would be staying? Not cool If he bails now.

01/05/2019 - 11:28pm It seems like we just tell…

It seems like we just tell half the defensive recruits they can play viper. Everyone wants to be Jabril or Khaleke. I think we told Anthony and Singleton they could be vipers. I think we told JKP.

12/31/2018 - 11:35pm They kept changing the QB…

They kept changing the QB/center exchange throughout the season. To be less predictable i guess? They started with a hand motion from the QB (similar to what trevor lawrence does) where the QB drops his hand. I think mccaffrey did a clap or something. Seems like something that should be changing constantly to throw the d off

12/31/2018 - 11:29pm He left Michigan to move up…

He left Michigan to move up and be more than a position coach. Unfortunately, hes still a position coach. Not sure he should be our OC because he doesn't have a resume that's great or screams 'innovative'. A smaller school could definitely make a splash by hiring him as an OC. He's a good recruiter.

12/31/2018 - 1:50pm My theory is that Tarik…

My theory is that Tarik getting hurt caused them to go more TE heavy. In the summer the only WR the coaches trusted were DPJ and Tarik. Collins and Martin were unknown, Bell was too raw. Not sure what the deal with Grant perry was, he never got that many touches this year. Anyways, when Tarik went down they felt more comfortable relying on Gentry and McKeon, thus all the 2 TE sets. Unfortunately I think Gentry and McKeon didn't take that next big leap from year 1 to year 2. Everyone thought Gentry could play himself into a 2nd Rd draft pick once he had competent QB play. That didn't really materialize.

12/30/2018 - 11:52pm Good point. I think it…

Good point. I think it starts as a kid just watching games for fun. Then when you start to read articles about players you watch more intently then you read more articles and go into deeper analysis, then you watch with more focus and tape the game so you can rewatch until you get to the point where you watch every single play one by one while reading UFR. It's just the snowball effect.

12/30/2018 - 11:25pm I agree. The plan is for CP…

I agree. The plan is for CP to take over for Don Brown (that's what kept him away from alabama) but it was more of a 5 year plan than a 1 year succession plan. I'm not super confident he's the best DC we could get right now.

12/30/2018 - 4:49pm I want to hear more from…

I want to hear more from former players. And less from media talking heads and internet board posters.

Charles tell em what's up.

12/26/2018 - 10:49pm I am wondering if the…

I am wondering if the players would take less shit from fans if Michigan (and every school) released weekly injury reports like the nfl

12/21/2018 - 4:24pm I thought there was a pretty…

I thought there was a pretty good chance this was true so I went to look up s&p+ rankings (needed some ranking system that would include teams near 100) and yes in fact Tennessee is much much closer to Rutgers than they are to Michigan. Michigan is +21.3 and Tenn is -2.2, and Rutgers is -15.6.
