AZ Cardinals to trade Rosen and draft Murray?
Adam Schaffer is saying that it is not out of the question that Kingsbury and the Cardinals trade Rosen and draft Murray first overall.
Kingsbury has previously stated that he would draft Murray first overall, but he may have just been positively reinforcing him.
Drafting Murray would make watching the Cardinals a whole lot more enticing(thinking Baker in Cleveland), so who knows?

Holy autocorrect Batman.....
January 10th, 2019 at 11:53 AM ^
My phone constantly autocorrects "on" to "in" or vice versa all the time. It's annoying as hell. I thought about turning it off but I do like that it will add a contraction if I don't feel like switching to the symbol screen to add an apostrphe.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:06 PM ^
This is hilarious, because my phone is constantly erroneously correcting "its" to "it's". Drives me crazy. Yes, sometimes I do want the possessive form, thanks.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:09 PM ^
Now I'm getting this thing where it's randomly capitalizing letters in the middle of a sentence. I have no idea what the logic is behind that.

I think That's the Trump keyboard.

We have a triggered snowflake here folks. I love how much space he takes up in the minds of you people, it’s refreshing.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:48 PM ^
the "president" does tend to take up some fair amount of the collective "head space" of the nation.
Lord knows Bill & Barack did for some. Of course, that doesn't equate being a "snowflake," right?
January 10th, 2019 at 5:28 PM ^
I wish idiots understood the derivation of snowflake. Not just where it comes from, but the satirical usage. Then again, I wish a lot of things for idiots—like brains that think critically.

That is one ballsy move.
January 10th, 2019 at 11:41 AM ^
Why would Kingsbury have been positively reinforcing a kid who played for Texas A&M or Oklahoma?
I still think Murray will end up playing baseball (at least to start his career), so it's probably a moot point. I wouldn't take Murray #1, because it could end up being a wasted pick. It's not worth the risk to me if my job depends on getting the most out of my picks. If you draft him in the 1st round and he doesn't play football, you're probably going to get fired as a coach/GM within a couple years.
January 10th, 2019 at 11:53 AM ^
Fair points, especially the baseball/football fiasco. I would say that Murray has a better chance of working out as a football player than he does a baseball player all things considered.
Also, to those that don’t think he is worth the first overall pick...Murray threw 42 touchdowns and 7 ints this year, and he ran for another 12 tds. His game translates really well to the NFL.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:03 PM ^
He's probably 5-9, so while he might be able to have some success in the NFL, will his body hold up against the size/speed of the NFL game?
Besides, if he turns into a 20/40 player in baseball, he'll make way more money in the long run. He road to a starting NFL gig is much shorter than in baseball, but he definitely has a tough decision to make.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:26 PM ^
Kyler just turned 21 (he'd be 22 by next season start); he could legit play 5 years in the NFL & still have a 10-yr career in MLB. Jus sayin
But has he been projected to hit 20 bombs in the bigs???
He's a bit... slight for that, no?
January 10th, 2019 at 12:44 PM ^
It often takes a significant amount of time to progress through the minors in baseball. He's likely looking at a minimum of three years before he'd get an opportunity in the majors. If he's taking five years off from baseball, that would make him almost 30 by the time he was big league ready. At that rate he'd probably never get that huge contract that comes after a player is arbitration eligible.
I've seen that number (20ish) being a possible HR projection.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:50 PM ^
I would agree. If he takes five years off, his skills will diminish and he likely won't make it to the big league level. It takes an incredible amount of work to get yourself ready to play at the big league level.
January 10th, 2019 at 1:28 PM ^
Drew Henson probably screwed it up by doing it in the wrong order, but Bo & Deion did both simultaneously. Neither spent any 3 years in the Minors.
Of course, they weren't QBs, so their NFL trajectory was smoother...
January 10th, 2019 at 2:48 PM ^
That is my guess. NFL with guaranteed $ > Baseball $ but a shorter career. By 25, He's cashed NFL checks and if he washes out can still play baseball.
January 10th, 2019 at 10:07 PM ^
"But has he been projected to hit 20 bombs in the bigs???
He's a bit... slight for that, no?"
Umm, have you ever seen José Ramirez or Altuve?
January 10th, 2019 at 12:55 PM ^
5-9 is SMALL for the NFL. Mayfield is a great QB but he had problems and he is ~6'0 / 6'1. Count me as a doubter that he plays in the NFL, much less is the first overall pick.
January 10th, 2019 at 1:11 PM ^
He should talk to Drew Henson about this. And ask himself if he is confident he will be able to hit a major league breaking ball.
January 10th, 2019 at 11:54 AM ^
It's weird how people who play baseball and any other sport always love baseball more than the other sport.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:00 PM ^
Lots of money without the major physical toll on your body leading to a much longer career.
Plus, you only have to actually hit the ball once every 4 at bats to be considered great at the plate.
Only major downside in my eyes is the whole 162 games in the regular season.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:04 PM ^
A .250 hitter is not great at the plate.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:14 PM ^
Insert the "one lousy hit per week" speech from Bull Durham here
January 11th, 2019 at 3:02 AM ^
Love the reference, but the whole point to that speech is that with that "one lousy hit per week" you are no longer .250 hitter.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:31 PM ^
It is if you are a Tigers fan.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:58 PM ^
Bryce Harper may get a 300 million dollar deal this offseason. He hit 0.249 this year.... His carear is 0.279
January 10th, 2019 at 1:40 PM ^
The fact that some team is about to vastly overpay Bryce Harper doesn't mean that a .250 is a good BA.
January 10th, 2019 at 3:42 PM ^
Not a .250 hitter of Murray's stature & skillset, but Bryce could hit .250 and still make $30mil+ year. You would need a fair amount of walks to supplement that, of course.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:00 PM ^
let's see... you can play a sport where you get in the equivalent of a traffic collision dozens of times in a few hours, or, you can play a sport where you don't.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:10 PM ^
Let's see, he can play a sport and not make another dime post signing bonus and never make the major league, or he can play a sport and play pro ball from day one, and get a signing bonus and maybe be a star? Yeah, I can see the downside to that.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:39 PM ^
So he can maybe be a star in the NFL but can't in the MLB?
January 10th, 2019 at 12:54 PM ^
Yeah I probably stated that wrong. I meant that he could have a long career in the NFL, by either being a starter, backup, or finding another position ala Randall El. You don't make it to the majors and stick unless you are hitting .280 or better, or hitting bombs, and he doesn't look like the bomb hitting type.
January 10th, 2019 at 1:57 PM ^
Not every failed starter gets a spot as a backup, just like not every first round pick in MLB makes the pros.
Assuming he never materializes into anything, he would make more money upfront in the NFL (roughly $30M if he is the first overall pick down to around $10M if he is picked in the end of the first round) compared to his $5M signing bonus in baseball.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:20 PM ^
Kingsbury was previously OC/QB coach at A&M, very likely was involved in getting them in early on Kyler?
Just a guess, no knowledge
January 10th, 2019 at 1:12 PM ^
Whatever the reason Kingsbury made that statement, maybe boosting the Big 12, he made it when it was completely hypothetical. I'd guess he actually hadn't put any thought into who he really would draft if he was in that position. What were the odds he would be?
January 10th, 2019 at 6:24 PM ^
I feel weird sharing this, but this guy who refs basketball games in Texas claims to be Murray's cousin. I've spoken to this "cousin" a few times while I was working basketball games at my high school and he states Murray does not plan to play baseball. Yeah, I know, not exactly concrete info. I'll leave now.
January 10th, 2019 at 11:42 AM ^
Murray is making a big mistake choosing football over baseball, IMHO. If it’s his true passion, fine. But long-term earnings and long-term health considerations should push him to baseball.
January 10th, 2019 at 11:49 AM ^
You are assuming he makes it to the majors. That is no guarantee. If he goes the football route, he will get a signing bonus and at least 3 years of roster money and endorsements. Baseball is a different animal. You get your signing bonus and the rest is up to you.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:05 PM ^
I have this discussion with a co-worker who gets all bent out of shape of the Tigers even talk about trading a prospect. You could have Baseball America's top ten in your farm system and still end up with nothing more than journey-men. Depending on how long he gets stuck in the minors, after abitration ends, he could be 28 before he signs the second contract. That assumes he actually gets a second contract.
January 10th, 2019 at 1:47 PM ^
He's probably still pissed that the Tigers traded John Smoltz away when he was in the minors. (Insert hindsight is 20/20 here.)
January 10th, 2019 at 11:52 AM ^
Especially given his lack of NFL size - he will get murdered in the NFL if he doesn't put on 20-25 lbs of mass.
January 10th, 2019 at 11:55 AM ^
Murray is also listed as 5’11”. If that dude is 5’11”, then my schlong is 12”. My wife will tell you that’s not the case and the camera only adds about a half inch.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:37 PM ^
So what you're saying is, it ain't too goddamn boo-coo?
January 10th, 2019 at 1:48 PM ^

January 10th, 2019 at 1:03 PM ^
It isn't how long it is, it's how thick the fountainhead is.
January 10th, 2019 at 12:13 PM ^
Russell Wilson has played for 8 years and hasn't had a major injury. QB's break legs and tear knee's up more than anything else, and that happens no matter what size you are.
January 10th, 2019 at 1:43 PM ^
Russell Wilson was 15 lbs heavier than Murray coming out of school - and that is being generous with Murray's "reported" weight of 195. I think he looks closer to 175-180 lbs.
