Greg Mattison Leaving Michigan to be Ohio State DC
January 7th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
Yeah, they might hang 62 on us or something.
Reverse of that is that we should know their defense pretty good too.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:55 PM ^
Actually, he was just going to retire, but decided to flip as a plant in order to give up a hundred to the good guys just to put the icing on his career.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
You joke, but I guarantee that's why they hired him. They'll squeeze him for every bit of intel he has on us and use it to their advantage.
Shit like this is why they keep beating us. Every single action that team takes is with one goal in mind, beating us.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:52 PM ^
While our coaching staff is always reacting to what happened and at least two steps behind. Same shit, different year.
January 7th, 2019 at 3:20 PM ^
Ah, but next year, when we open up our offense and throw the ball to our playmakers in space, GM will be befuddled because he will never have seen Michigan do that!
January 7th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
List of our defensive secrets -
1. Watson can't cover speed.
End of list
January 7th, 2019 at 2:07 PM ^
Right?
Secrets? Intel? There are no secrets to what we do defensively. That's part of the problem. We are very predictable on both sides of the ball.

Sorta how when Babe Ruth went from the Red Sox to the Yankees?

GM left in '96. National Champions with best defense ever '97.
January 7th, 2019 at 3:29 PM ^
According to Bentley he coached in 1997.

January 7th, 2019 at 3:49 PM ^
Bentley is incorrect then. He left after 1996 season.
January 7th, 2019 at 3:59 PM ^
This is true... GM left after the '96 season and Jim Herrmann took over as DC in '97.
January 7th, 2019 at 4:38 PM ^
Indeed. And similarly GM left us with an absolute boat load of multi-year NFL talent on that '97 team.

This guy just likes spreading depression
January 7th, 2019 at 1:37 PM ^
Other guy posted "rumblings" but this one is a confirmation.
I'll allow it.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:37 PM ^
Well this sucks. Football team makes me depressed on and off the field. THANK GOD FOR JOHN BEILEIN!!!
January 7th, 2019 at 1:44 PM ^
I never thought basketball as a sport would help my depression, but here we are.
January 7th, 2019 at 2:40 PM ^
I started watching basketball in 02. The first game I watched was Michigan’s upset at UCLA. That put them at 5-6 for the season. My how times change.

This makes me less worried about OSU's defense tbh
January 7th, 2019 at 1:45 PM ^
Just makes it easier for them to stop Harbaugh's offense since he literally knows the playbook. Maybe this will light a fire under Harbs to make some changes.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:48 PM ^
No, this will force JH's hand in making a change. At least let's hope so...
January 7th, 2019 at 1:53 PM ^
I know our playbook and it was clear that they ALREADY knew our playbook. I am shocked by the level of angst this has caused... even for a board that always overreacts to everything.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:37 PM ^
I love Mattison, but I would not have been excited if Harbaugh would have made him DC. The tough part is that he is a great guy and has done great things with our D-Line and now is going to our biggest rival. I honestly thought OSU would have done better for their DC hire.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:39 PM ^
This right here. I don't think our defensive line has made huge strides the last couple of years. We did not get into ear shot of Haskins with our front four. Frankly, I am not sure I understand the move from OSU's perspective. (Aside from just being a bunch of dicks).
January 7th, 2019 at 3:14 PM ^
Mattison coached Wormley, Taco, Glasgow, Chase, Mo,
man, what in the f#@k are you talking about?
You're whistling past the cemetery.
Sorry.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:42 PM ^
Absolutely disagree with him being DC here. No thanks if Brown were to leave. Mattison's defensive scheme is not equipped for the the new spread offense. Some might say neither is Browns scheme. I am disappointed Mattison is leaving, but I am encouraged he will be a DC at OSU. I think Michigan's chances of winning next year just increased. And I agree with you, I thought OSU could have got a better candidate.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:50 PM ^
Agreed, he also seems to have slowed down as a recruiter. Was the 5th best on the staff the last 2 years.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:53 PM ^
If Brown goes to Temple and Harbaugh hypothetically would have promoted Mattison to DC instead of doing a national search and landing a relatively young, hot name, up and comer everyone on this blog would have lost their minds.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:58 PM ^
Mmm, young, hot, up and comer. Tommy likey.
January 7th, 2019 at 2:13 PM ^
Probably true. It would have felt like a conservative plan B that everyone would have used as evidence of Harbaugh's inability to "do what it takes to win"
January 7th, 2019 at 1:55 PM ^
I gotta agree here....seems like a miss on their part. Alex G leaving is weird now...guess they didnt like him?
January 7th, 2019 at 1:38 PM ^
Is this some sort of fucking joke?
January 7th, 2019 at 1:39 PM ^
Obviously he's our asset on covert assignment.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:43 PM ^
He'l l probably kill their whole staff with Polonium, right comrade???
January 7th, 2019 at 1:46 PM ^
When you want a job done right, you make it an inside job.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:44 PM ^
Putin...If anyone can be sure of double agents it is you. I put my trust in your diabolical mind.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:48 PM ^
And so shall you be rewarded next November...
January 7th, 2019 at 1:39 PM ^
What a Boren thing to do.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:48 PM ^
Only if he dresses up as Harbaugh for halloween.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:52 PM ^
No shit. Boren set the standard for being a worthless traitor.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:53 PM ^
Underrated comment of the day, someone upvote on my behalf plz
January 7th, 2019 at 1:59 PM ^
I got you covered.
January 7th, 2019 at 1:39 PM ^
Is it too much to hope for a repeat of '96-'97 (the last time he left)?
