It has to be. You have to adapt to your players strengths. Both of these QBs came from air raid system so what the hell, throw it all day. College offenses are more exciting anyway.

Surprisingly the difference in the game was the defense. That rams Dline caused Mahomes a lot of problems

11/19/2018 - 12:35pm Totally agree that that is…

Totally agree that that is an impressive performance as a coach. Though I also give Hoke credit that he didn’t leave the cupboard bare. His player development was awful, but the man recruited some good (at least on the defensive side) players to Michigan. That has really helped in turning things around so quickly

11/18/2018 - 9:14pm Good for Moorehead. If his…

Good for Moorehead. If his offense is the same as the one at PSU, he needs a great back to really take the offense to the next level.

11/18/2018 - 8:11pm wolverineswire had a report…

wolverineswire had a report about this yesterday. He's been nursing an injury since Rutgers. They tried him out for a little bit against Indiana but decided it's best to let him rest so that he can be 100% for OSU. Steuber replaced him and did well enough. Link

I think it’s expected since he never hit any of the camps or circuits and from his senior season. He’s still going to be very good and projects as a great DT

11/16/2018 - 12:52pm I’d love to see one in this…

I’d love to see one in this class too. But it seems like we’re not leading for any of the WRs we’re looking at. Next year we have some good targets such as Maliq Carr, Ian Stewart, Devell Washington

11/16/2018 - 12:49pm Agreed. I would love us to…

Agreed. I would love us to have a 2 Qb class with Bailey and a lower rated a dual threat as the other option

11/16/2018 - 12:47pm He’s still considering…

He’s still considering Michigan but a new CB went out for him to go to Indiana.

11/15/2018 - 10:34pm I think of someone who has…

I think of someone who has good pass catching abilities and can line out as a WR if necessary. It could honestly be interchangeable with third down back

11/15/2018 - 10:32pm Don't forget Michael Barrett…

Don't forget Michael Barrett who was also a dynamic runner and could have some carries there in the future. I remember seeing something about Haskins moving to LB but I want to say that was just conjecture. I believe he is still a RB and needs to gain more strength so that he can run through people.

11/12/2018 - 12:11pm Karlaftis went to camps over…

Karlaftis went to camps over the summer and balled out. He doesn't have as high of a ceiling as Harrison, but his floor is so high already that you know he will be good.

11/12/2018 - 12:08pm Agreed! Mazi and Woods seem…

Agreed! Mazi and Woods seem like NT to me, while Hinton and Morris would be 3T. Seems like this class could have 2 players for every position on the DL

11/12/2018 - 11:11am Good point. I hadn't…

Good point. I hadn't considered the recruiting advantage. I know Purdue has a couple kids from KY such as Milton Wright that they would want at Louisville. I could see them trying to get David Bell (Indiana native) to go there as well.

11/12/2018 - 11:07am Hinton and Morris would move…

Hinton and Morris would move inside. Newburg and Harrison are your WDEs. Ojabo and Karlaftis are SDEs. Karlaftis could bounce inside and out a la Wormley or Gary.

Karlaftis and Hinton would probably be on the 2 deep immediately. Harrison may come on situationally depending on if Vilain is healthy or not. Newburg, Ojabo, and Morris are redshirt and develop over time candidates.

Rivals also has Eric Gray as 3* back so...

11/12/2018 - 11:03am There might be enough room,…

There might be enough room, but we see more firm handshakes than expected. Also more attrition. Right now 26/27 is a pretty good bet.

11/12/2018 - 11:02am That's a big point that…

That's a big point that Michigan should make in the next couple weeks. Even if Brohm stays this season, what are the chances that he's gonna stay for all of Karlaftis' career. In addition, George's younger brother Yanni doesn't want to go to Purdue so Michigan makes much more sense in every way (better football program, long term coaching stability and excellent coaches, not too far from home but still some distance, play with family).

11/12/2018 - 10:59am Brohm's buyout decreases on…

Brohm's buyout decreases on December 5 so I imagine Louisville waits until then to make it official. They're already paying so much money to Petrino and their former AD. Anything to decrease the cost.

It's technically BTN Student U. Not great commentary, but video is there.

Their offense is really hit or miss, but their defense isn't bad.

11/10/2018 - 7:16pm Their RB Bowser has been…

Their RB Bowser has been playing really well since he started playing against Rutgers in their 7th game. He's had 100 yard games against Rutgers, Wisconsin, and Iowa, and 93 against ND. It's time like this I wish Luiji Vilain was healthy. Best names in the game.

11/09/2018 - 11:29am If all of those teams have 2…

If all of those teams have 2 losses, I could honestly see the committee putting an undefeated UCF at the #4 spot.

I love the Flintstones. That and the Jetsons were classic cartoons.

Er, ignore that last part. I am average Joe American.

11/08/2018 - 6:58pm Not particularly. I only…

Not particularly. I only care if his information is solid. And mostly it has been. I wasn't a huge fan of his emo/bashing everything Michigan phase in the beginning of the season, but he's a fan and he has a right to be mad about Michigan as much as the rest of us. And even then his information has been good.

Also the point of us having usernames is so that we don't have to put our real names out here. I mean I don't want people knowing i'm actually Putin.

11/08/2018 - 6:50pm You seem pretty salty about…

You seem pretty salty about this. What does it matter if he is Adam Biggers?

11/08/2018 - 6:49pm I don't think Michigan wants…

I don't think Michigan wants a 30 carry a game kind of back right now. Harbaugh has clearly expressed his preference for a RB by committee approach with a RB1 taking 60-70% of snaps and RB2 taking the rest.

That being said, Charbonnet definitely has the skill set to be a RB1 at Michigan. I don't see Evans being a RB1, so he should play a role as a change of pace/pass-catching type of back next year. Turner/Charbonnet should battle it out as the main backs, with a possibility of Samuels doing some damage. It's unlikely, but Haskins could bulk up and play a factor in there too. He's another big back that needed more time in the weight room to get more upper body strength. With Ben Herbert and a year in the system, I'm sure he'll be more than ready physically.

11/07/2018 - 11:05am Vilain is out for the year.

Vilain is out for the year.

11/07/2018 - 11:04am I'm also curious to see more…

I'm also curious to see more of McGrone. He was ranked a 5 star on 247 and we had the luxury of redshirting him because our LB core has been pretty solid. On defense, I would also love to see more of Woods as a potential Viper, JKP at S, Thomas, Gray, and Sims at CB.

On offense, I want to see more of Mayfield, Steuber, Spanellis, Filiaga, Hayes, Muhammad, Peters, Turner, Samuels, Barrett, Haskins, Van Sumeran, Bell, and Martin.

11/06/2018 - 5:37pm Maybe, but I don't see…

Maybe, but I don't see Haskins having enough speed for the viper spot (4.74 in his Hello post). By comparison, Hudson runs a 4.61 and Velazquez somewhere in the 4.5s If he switches to LB, he would probably play inside.

11/06/2018 - 4:55pm Even if Taylor didn't play…

Even if Taylor didn't play meaningful snaps at Michigan, he was still a quality representative of the university.

11/06/2018 - 4:54pm Officially we have 11…

Officially we have 11 seniors graduating and currently 8 walk ons on scholarship (using mgoblog's depth chart as source). That would be 19 spots for the class. With early enrollees, 5th years not given, and attrition, I can see about 6-8 additional spots pushing this to the 25-27 range. That would give us about 3 more spots left. We have a lot of players that have Michigan as leaders/top 2 - Harrison, Crouch, Keegan, Ike, Perry, DeLoach, Peseck-Hickson. It'll be an interesting finish to the class for sure.

11/05/2018 - 4:19pm Crouch was doing that, not…

Crouch was doing that, not Harrison. That story though makes me believe that we have a decent chance with Crouch

11/05/2018 - 4:13pm It's important to have…

It's important to have players like DPJ/Collins/Black who are decently fast and are tall because they're matchup nightmares for opposing DC and they have to game plan against them. Not only that, but it also opens shorter passes underneath for TEs, Slots, and RBs. In the end zone you can get away with it a bit by throwing it to TEs but it's definitely easier to have good WRs in that area as well.

We've really loaded up on slot players this year. Ronnie Bell, Oliver Martin, and Quintel Kent are all capable of playing outside, but they have a more natural fit at slot, which is why it's important to get at least one outside WR type. I don't think they have a realistic shot at anybody like that this cycle, but I could see them accepting Amauri Peseck Hickson as a possession WR. Or take a chance on somebody like Trevon Raphael, who's a pretty speedy tall WR but is also pretty raw.

10/30/2018 - 6:57am I believe Hoke is there…

I believe Hoke is there because Schembechler Hall renovations were completed when he was still coach. Not sure if all coaches get a plaque. It's been a while since I visited there.

10/28/2018 - 1:31am Don't stop posting these…

Don't stop posting these updates. These athletes work incredibly hard and they deserve their time in the limelight. It may not get a ton of comments/discussion but I appreciate these posts and the attention you bring to smaller sports on this blog.

10/27/2018 - 11:27am Big question is what does…

Big question is what does Brohm want to do long term. Is he the kind of coach that will jump to the NFL eventually? or is he a CFB lifer and wants to establish himself eventually at a high level program. If he's the former, then he could jump to Louisville which is slightly bigger than Purdue and more likely to get better recruits. In addition he can showcase that he can resurrect multiple teams and can develop players. If he's the latter, there is no difference between Purdue and Louisville and he'd be better off staying at Purdue until a big name team comes calling.

10/27/2018 - 9:35am Talked about a bunch before…

Talked about a bunch before. We put in a full court press on Logan Brown. He grew up a fan of Wisconsin and committed there pretty much ending his recruitment.

Devontae Dobbs didn't like that we offered a little later than other schools and he never really reciprocated interest. Also I think he projects inside to OG rather than OT.

We never offered Anthony Bradford. I'm assuming academics, but I don't know.

There was some interest in Spencer Brown but he had already committed to MSU and reaffirmed that after a couple weeks of talking to Michigan.

10/27/2018 - 9:33am He's supposed to be…

He's supposed to be primarily LB with option of playing RB if he wants. Though, if Charbonnet plays well, that would be unnecessary.

10/27/2018 - 9:31am Benhart seems to be valuing…

Benhart seems to be valuing early playing time and distance from home (big factor for his mom). While Nebraska isn't super close, it is more drivable than to Ann Arbor.

From twitter yesterday, Warriner was out in Kansas City visiting OT Danielson Ike. Jim and Jay were both at Eric Gray's high school in the afternoon and Jay stayed for his game, while Jim went to Georgia to see 2020 QB prospect Harrison Bailey play.

Another note, 2020 OG Logan Parr is announcing his commitment on 7:30pm (CT) on Sunday. CBs are mostly Texas, but he did visit Michigan for the Wisconsin game (in which he also received his offer) and he grew up a fan of Michigan.

10/26/2018 - 3:39pm I bet it looks even better…

I bet it looks even better when it’s completed. Those renderings of the weight room don’t do the actual facility justice.

10/26/2018 - 3:02pm He’s always been critical of…

He’s always been critical of Michigan because they haven’t been as good as Carr era teams (same as what Braylon does). But when Michigan has performed well he basically doubles down on his hawt takes and doesn’t give them credit. He also hates Michigan fans essentially and prides himself for coming out of Columbus. After last weekend he put Purdue above Michigan for the best team in the big ten which is a hawt take for sure.

10/26/2018 - 10:47am I love Jackson as a slot and…

I love Jackson as a slot and a playmaker in the backfield, but I really don't want him trying to pass protect in the backfield. He would be pretty small as a RB and much more effective as a WR

10/26/2018 - 9:30am He has good feet. Really…

He has good feet. Really good in the pocket and has pocket awareness. He's similar to Shea in terms of athletic ability (maybe a little less). I see him as having enough ability to get a couple yards or a first down here and there, but he's not likely to bust out huge runs.

10/26/2018 - 9:21am He hasn't decommitted…

He hasn't decommitted. Though Tennessee is pretty confident they can flip him. Michigan is out this week visiting all of their top prospects (committed and uncommitted) so they'll probably drop in to talk to him about his recruitment.

I think it's really important to get Gray back on campus. He was supposed to visit for the Wisconsin game but didn't end up making it. So Michigan should do everything they can to try to get him up here for PSU or Indiana

10/25/2018 - 10:25pm Agreed. Franklin has amassed…

Agreed. Franklin has amassed a great talented group in Happy Valley, but i'm not sure he knows how to use that talent properly. They're going to be loaded at RB for a while with Miles Sanders, Ricky Slade, Devyn Ford this year. And they have a good group of WRs/TEs. They don't have a good o-line though. If it wasn't for McSorley running and making something out of nothing, they would be much worse off. Their defense isn't anything special either. Individual talent is there. But lots of holes as well.

Nevertheless, I hope Harbaugh has everyone focused for PSU. We need to return that thrashing and make their look absolutely pedestrian in the big house.

10/24/2018 - 8:37pm Definitely less humidity and…

Definitely less humidity and heat. But I would say Clemson's facilities look on par or maybe even nicer that Michigans (by nicer I mean more luxury items that aren't particularly needed but are still kinda cool). Also Clemson has an indoor facility as well.

I'm not optimistic on landing Crouch just because Clemson has pretty much everything Michigan has (minus as good academics though Clemson isn't too bad) and it's closer to home for him. He's talked about distance, weather, and winning as major factors in his recruitment and Clemson checks those boxes as well. I'm still hoping to be surprised and that he gets absolutely blown away in the PSU visit. The stadium has to be rocking when he visits!
