Last time I was this excited for a recruit... probably Rashan? This is huuuuge, welcome aboard buddy!

Holy fuck

I don’t remember there ever being a rule against this

I have no real problem with Scott Frost. Now, Scott Frost’s mom, on the other hand... I can’t stand Scott Frost’s mom

I stopped reading them too. They are too long to be interesting or helpful, although I guess that’s the point of having a catch-all instead of 50 different threads

I think it rotates each year. Hard to care too much in any case given it doesn’t seem to factor into playoff committee reasoning as far as I can tell

Interesting. I guess I just read individual comments and can't say who is posting more or less or who sounds like whom. I have no recollection of your posting history, for instance. Couldn't tell you a thing about anything you've posted in the past.

09/13/2018 - 7:48am Wouldn’t mind a quick hook…

Wouldn’t mind a quick hook for the obvious rival trolls. There was a bunch of garbage dumped here during the Urban Meyer stuff over the summer, not sure why it was allowed but it didn’t add to the conversation.

As for the multiple account trolls, candidly I’m not sure how people notice that stuff. I’ve never paid close enough attention to syntax and style to identify two separate posters as the same person. But if someone is being an asshole generally they should be banned in any case

09/02/2018 - 1:03pm You absolutely can, and it’s…

You absolutely can, and it’s amazing we didn’t do much of it. You generally want backs and TEs and H-backs in to add extra blockers (our backs were pretty bad pass pro blockers from my first watch though) and you either leave them in to block or have them chip a DE as they go into patterns. You also want to run screens and draws to keep people honest about rush lanes, and quick hitting plays like slants and bubble screens to get the ball out quickly. You generally want to avoid slow developing plays where the QB turns his back to the defense and want to avoid empty sets.

I only remember one or two (poorly executed) screens, no draws, a couple bubbles (which worked nicely), and a ton of empty sets (in which i would scream at the tv as they predictably blew up). The game plan was remarkably dumb given how bad the LT obviously was, so not sure what the coaches were thinking.

09/02/2018 - 11:44am Ruminated on this overnight…

Ruminated on this overnight. I think for the most part the defense will be fine, probably still a top 10 to top 5 unit. Most of what we got got on were fluky, non-repeatable plays. The one big thing though, I think the interior of our line is a problem on passing plays. Part of the reason Wimbush was able to step up and scramble so much is because nobody was pushing the pocket in the middle. In years past a lot of those scrambles would have been Mo Hurst or Ryan Glasgow sacks. Mone and Marshall were not getting that done

Pass protection and wide receivers getting open. If those two things happen book your tickets to the Playoff semi-finals.

You're suggesting you actually can't fathom his perspective, which is weird. Feel free to disagree with Brian's take - I do - but to suggest that his opinion is completely ridiculous or without any merit is a little ridiculous, isn't it?

If recent events don't give you pause regarding your fandom... man, I don't know what to say to you.

08/27/2018 - 1:28pm Keith Jackson isn't really…

Keith Jackson isn't really dead when your eyes water a little bit every time you hear the Woodson punt return touchdown call, or think about watching Denard's first touchdown run and not really comprehending what just happened, or remember the feeling of walking out of Spartan Stadium after stealing the "Little Brother" game. I guess there's some distance to it for me because I can hold out hope that we are a little different, that we haven't been exposed as abhorrent, selfish, grotesque parodies of sports fandom. I'm not saying we can't, or never will, but I have plausible deniability. Maybe that makes me part of the problem. But I still feel all the tingles and jingles every late August, even now. It's getting harder, sure, but it's still there for me.

The sky is likely blue, not the sky is blue. 2 plus 2 is likely 4, not 2 plus 2 is 4. You are likely a troll, not you are a troll.

I'm sick and tired of you guys trying to tap dance around this issue by using spurious logic and mutilating sentences and definitions to try and come up with a narrative that doesn't sound as bad as we all know it to be. Enough.

08/24/2018 - 11:37am I think I have the answer to…

I think I have the answer to 1-7: nobody in Ohio gives a shit. Winning trumps all, and protecting women is secondary to that. End of story, go Bucks. (I obviously don't mean that last part, ha)

08/24/2018 - 10:19am You guys as a fanbase are…

You guys as a fanbase are just such a laughable combination of stupid and disingenuous, it makes me want to laugh and puke at the same time. This investigation and report would be hilarious if this whole story wasn't such a sad indictment of where our society is right now.

08/24/2018 - 10:16am It's a distinction without a…

It's a distinction without a difference. If you use simple logic and reason, something your fanbase seems to have an usually difficult time with, you can quickly draw the conclusion that he likely deleted the messages to purposefully frustrate the investigation. While it isn't 100% provable that he did that, nothing is technically 100% provable using Bayesian reasoning, not even things like the laws of physics and mathematics. But when we have good reason to believe something, it's OK to believe it, even if there is a small amount of doubt. That's how the world works. Stating that it isn't a fact is simply sophistry, manipulating language to cast doubt on a conclusion that seems fairly obvious.

08/23/2018 - 9:58pm Try to remove yourself from…

Try to remove yourself from your Michigan fandom in answering. If your kid had offers from Alabama, Ohio State, USC, Georgia, Michigan, Clemson, Texas, etc. etc. - all of them, essentially - would you really want them to go to OSU knowing what you know about the culture there? While I'm sure there are problems at the other schools I just mentioned, they're nowhere near as naked and obvious as at OSU right now, so what's the point? Why not pick one of the other perfectly good schools where you can at least hope that your kid isn't being coached by a complete psychopath?

08/23/2018 - 9:14pm That’s our guy.

That’s our guy.

08/23/2018 - 4:11pm At this point, there's a ton…

At this point, there's a ton of time left in the recruiting cycle, and OSU's class is so highly rated that the vast, vast majority of these kids have multiple commitable offers from similarly-placed schools. There's nothing holding most of them back from de-committing and going elsewhere at this point.

08/23/2018 - 2:48pm People are saying it’s all…

People are saying it’s all about the money and the NFL, but it’s not like Georgia and Florida and Alabama and USC aren’t recruiting these kids. Nobody needs to go to OSU to make it to the NFL, that’s a crock of shit. They’re complicit too, and to Brian’s point from earlier this week, at this point, they’re the only ones with any ability to do something about it. Disgraceful

08/22/2018 - 9:06pm Pathetic

08/17/2018 - 10:53am This isn't a criminal…

This isn't a criminal investigation. The law firm isn't obligated to seek objective truth. They're being paid by Ohio State and will serve at the direction of their client. I'm sure they won't fabricate anything but there is a ton of leeway with regards to what they will focus on. Not sure why you're so convinced that the involvement of a high-profile legal firm ensures that every stone will be overturned in 100% good faith.

08/17/2018 - 10:14am I think the law firm will…

I think the law firm will find whatever the university wants it to find. I don't have a ton of confidence that they're going to objectively reflect the information to find - that's likely not what they're being paid to do.

08/17/2018 - 9:31am I really don't think this…

I really don't think this gives us much new information re: whether he stays or goes as it's pretty simple to craft a narrative in either direction. For instance - it's taking longer because they need time to fully negotiate a resignation/buyout combo and prep their publicity statement to minimize damage. On the other hand, they want to reinstate him and show that all the allegations were overblown, but need to collect all the evidence as 1) they can't have McMurphy lobbing unexpected bombs following the decision and 2) you better be damn sure that the allegations are unwarranted if you're essentially going to go against the victim in this case. I think the 14 days was ambitious and it makes sense that it will likely take longer than that - but I don't think you can read into a decision one way or the other on the basis of this information.

Which possibility sort of suggests they may have no other choice but to fire him, right?

08/08/2018 - 11:09am So why isn’t Zach Smith on…

So why isn’t Zach Smith on the OSU coaching staff today?

08/08/2018 - 10:30am Exactly. Let me put on my…

Exactly. Let me put on my credulous hat for a minute, and assume the following (note, I don't believe ANY of this, I'm just trying to make a point): Courtney Smith is wildly volatile, she is the source of the marital issues, not Zach, there is tons of evidence that she faked all the DV issues and even went so far as to doctor the photos she sent to Shelley Meyer, etc. Let's believe all of that is true and Urban and co. were justified to keep Smith on staff. Why is he gone now? You just can't have it both ways - if you followed protocols and did the right thing, he should 100% be on the staff today, period.

08/08/2018 - 10:18am I guess my biggest question…

I guess my biggest question then is, if Meyer and the administrators followed proper protocol, why doesn't Zach Smith have a job today? The implication of the above post would be, OSU followed protocol, didn't find anything, and so he remained on staff. If that's true, why were they so rushed to fire Smith after a trespassing charge? Shouldn't Smith be the one on administrative leave being investigated if he's never been found to have committed any wrongdoing in the past? None of this makes sense.

08/07/2018 - 6:44pm Honest answer, if Harbaugh…

Honest answer, if Harbaugh were in this position next year, I'd like to think I'd be advocating for his firing.

Fine, I'll bite - which company do you drive trucks for? How's the pension?

08/07/2018 - 6:41pm If you have strong reason to…

If you have strong reason to believe the employee was beating his wife via repeated incidents and photographic evidence over a number of years, and you're in a highly-public position (especially within a public university or publicly-elected office) with influence over the development of young people, then yes, you should lose your job. I would insist upon the same standard for e.g. a principal of a school. Again, I struggle to see what is so difficult to understand.

Anyone who knows anything about domestic violence knows that even if an assault occurred, it's a high bar to clear to press charges and ultimately secure a conviction if the assaulted is unwilling to cooperate in an investigation. If that's your ultimate bar for judgment, that is far too high. Preponderance of the evidence received over a number of years should be plenty to pull the trigger, especially when the employee's contract came up for renewal multiple times and finding cause would not have been necessary to terminate employment.

And this doesn't apply to all professions. Note the higher standard Meyer is held to is due to his influence over young people and his public standing. If you manage a small private business and think one of your employees is a wife-beater, and continue to employ him, it may not be a fire-able offense (you may still be a bad person at the end of the day, but that's another discussion altogether). If you think this stuff doesn't matter just take a look at the arrest records of Meyer's former players and the publicity he has brought to his employer. The fact that we're even having this conversation may be evidence that he has ultimately failed at his job.

Your insistence that you don't understand the above distinctions either indicates disingenuousness at best or outright stupidity at worst. Given your obvious Ohio State leanings I'm inclined to believe the latter.

08/07/2018 - 3:44pm Rather be hated for this…

Rather be hated for this than be hated for harboring serial women-beaters.

08/07/2018 - 3:43pm Yes, that's exactly why…

Yes, that's exactly why. What is so hard about this for you to understand? I suppose the Introduction to Crayons and History of Sesame Street survey courses you took as part of your general studies major at Ohio State didn't provide you with the requisite tools to analyze the situation, so we can go slower if you need.

08/06/2018 - 7:48am I sort of disagree with the…

I sort of disagree with the people who think this means he stays. In my view, if they want to keep him, they need to do an extremely deep dive on the evidence and cover all their bases. Because it’s impossible to prove a negative (ie, that he never transgressed), they would need to pull a ton of evidence just to be sure. If, on the other hand, they have found some impropriety, any impropriety, they have what they need and can be done now, subject to checking contracts, etc. That’s how I’m thinking about it anyways.

07/24/2018 - 11:58am It's probably about an 8 for…

It's probably about an 8 for me. I'm not sure people are remembering just how bad 2014 was, some of those games were unwatchable. To go from that to 10 wins in one season, with an Iowa QB castoff, is remarkable. And then to follow up with 2016 is also extremely impressive. If you think 2016 was a disappointment, I agree but only insofar as results are concerned. If you've watched a lot of football you know that sometimes the ball doesn't bounce your way. We were the victims of a bunch of bad luck and I'd bet if we played that Iowa game 10 times Michigan would win 8-9 times and we'd probably beat OSU 6/10 times. The fact is luck is always involved in these things, but the team was exceptionally talented and well-coached.

Last year was the exception, and it brings down the overall ranking for me. We didn't have a WR coach, we didn't have a coherent OL in spite of decent experience, and our QBs seemed to regress year over year. That was all on Harbaugh, but to his credit, I think he's repaired all of those issues. I think this year has a chance to be special.

05/13/2018 - 2:06pm I think in this case DiNardo

I think in this case DiNardo is right but for the wrong reasons. Putting Shea in a spread/pro-style hybrid (which, for anyone who actually watches a lot of football, those labels are nearly devoid of all meaning at this point) is not foreign at all to Harbaugh, who's had several mobile quarterbacks succeed in his system (Luck and Kaepernick come to mind most prominently). And, it's unfair to say that it's been a mess since Harbaugh got here. 2015 at year-end and most of 2016 looked pretty well-oiled relative to the crap we'd gotten used to under Hoke the year before (in spite of some of the posters above, who don't understand that the oblong ball sometimes bounces in ways you really don't like, that 2016 team was easily top 5 in the country).

But last year? Last year looked like disorganized grabass at times. Late in the season, you'd get busts (especially from the O line and QB spots) that you'd expect to get ironed out in spring or fall camp. I think DiNardo fails to point out the fundamental issues here, which appear to me to be cohesive OL and QB development. And I realize we had a young team with some nasty key injuries on offense but the lows those units plumbed was pretty damn low.

05/13/2018 - 1:53pm I mean, is he wrong? Last

I mean, is he wrong? Last year was a complete shitshow on offense, no? It's on Jim to prove the media wrong, not the other way around
