Clint Hurtt Hired by Eagles

Presumably this means he is out of the running for/didn't want the DC job. Hopefully they can lock someone down soon.

To me, this is a bullet dodged.
January 29th, 2024 at 5:46 PM ^
Did you just spell "Sal" wrong?
January 29th, 2024 at 6:49 PM ^
Is he still having a meltdown?
January 29th, 2024 at 7:03 PM ^
Good enough for a perennial NFL playoff team but not Michigan?
January 29th, 2024 at 7:09 PM ^
Those kinds of teams don't always make smart hires. Matt Patricia says "hi."
January 29th, 2024 at 7:18 PM ^
He's not the DC at Philly. We would have happily taken him as a DL coach...if we needed one.
January 29th, 2024 at 9:16 PM ^
He was never in play for the DC, so there was never any need for the hysterics. Which is also why it's silly to post vague chatter with the assumption that it's fact.
January 30th, 2024 at 1:32 PM ^
Sam Webb described Hurtt as a main contender, even maybe the favorite, for the DC role.
What's your track record compared to Sam's?
January 29th, 2024 at 11:28 PM ^
Personally, I'm hoping we promote Clink as long as he'll continue to run the existing system. Ryan Day hasn't been able to figure it out despite having all the talent to do so. Until the Buckeyes are able to put points up on us I don't want to see a change.
January 29th, 2024 at 4:50 PM ^
His hiring only made sense if Elston was out as D-Line coach so I'll take this as a positive.
January 29th, 2024 at 5:11 PM ^
Well some posts about Herbert leaving are also saying Elston is LA bound.
Your reading is no Hurtt means Eslton stays? And what are the rumblings about Clink? I suppose one or both of them could feel bringing in an outside DC would be passing them over?
January 29th, 2024 at 5:15 PM ^
Not necessarily that no Hurtt = Elston stays for sure but that Hurtt coming = Elston is leaving for sure.
January 29th, 2024 at 5:15 PM ^
It is not the Elston is LA bound but that Harbaugh was atleast going to make an offer. Apparently, Minter really loves him.
I would expect Elston to stay but you never know.
January 29th, 2024 at 4:50 PM ^
I was not a fan of this option
January 29th, 2024 at 4:51 PM ^
Bring on the next Ravens up and comer.
January 29th, 2024 at 4:51 PM ^
This is extremely good news on several fronts
January 29th, 2024 at 4:51 PM ^
This belongs in the “good news” thread.
January 29th, 2024 at 4:55 PM ^
This doesn't hurtt?
January 29th, 2024 at 4:59 PM ^
We deserve moore in my opinion…
January 29th, 2024 at 5:12 PM ^
It only makes us stronger...
January 29th, 2024 at 5:35 PM ^
It hurtts, but in the way John Mellencamp sang about
January 29th, 2024 at 6:13 PM ^
Hurtt's in Philly now with Hurts?
January 29th, 2024 at 9:46 PM ^
That is a lot of hurt on 1 team.
January 30th, 2024 at 5:33 AM ^
Or as one might call it, "megahurts."
Or not.
January 29th, 2024 at 4:52 PM ^
That is a very large man!
January 29th, 2024 at 6:19 PM ^
Wonder what that guy has for breakfast
January 29th, 2024 at 5:00 PM ^
I mouthed 'oh no' before I read the full title.
I really hope to keep the Ravens tree growing with someone who is already familiar with the scheme.
January 29th, 2024 at 5:00 PM ^
Who knew Deebo was coaching? #DAAAAAAAAAAMN
January 29th, 2024 at 5:00 PM ^
Fire Warde
January 29th, 2024 at 9:29 PM ^
Your "Carthago delenda est" routine is tiresome.
January 30th, 2024 at 5:49 AM ^
Your support of an admin who makes decisions that routinely negatively impact Michigan Athletics and the University as a whole is tiresome.
Warde is a cancer and he must be eliminated. Ignoring the problem doesn’t make the problem go away.
January 29th, 2024 at 5:07 PM ^
lol, this one Hurtts
January 29th, 2024 at 5:07 PM ^
Thank Jesus
January 29th, 2024 at 5:13 PM ^
Hurtts so good!
January 29th, 2024 at 5:19 PM ^
I guess the Edge of the Internet was wrong.
January 29th, 2024 at 5:24 PM ^
This is specious logic dawg
January 29th, 2024 at 5:31 PM ^
Interesting. Not as the DC, either; it’s possible that Sherrone was putting out a staff position feeler, or it’s possible that Hurtt’s camp was putting stuff out (though Sam Webb is likelier to get stuff from the Michigan side).
I’m curious to see how the defensive staff shakes out, and by “curious” I mean, a bit nervous in fan terms. The potential is there to have another great defense, but you need the right staff to run the scheme and retain the great players.
(Remember that we can’t always tell what the “right guys” are, either. The 2020 and 2021 offseasons both looked shaky from a transitional standpoint and both turned out to be massive wins).
January 29th, 2024 at 5:36 PM ^
I approve this message. On to John's next coordinator in waiting please.
January 29th, 2024 at 6:45 PM ^
And Jim will be producing his own prospects soon enough. I highly doubt he gets more than two years out of Minter.
January 29th, 2024 at 5:36 PM ^
Ah, position coach. Makes sense.
January 29th, 2024 at 5:48 PM ^
Better than butt hurtt
January 29th, 2024 at 6:12 PM ^
Someone latches onto a set of hyper-speculative bits of rumours on the fringe of the internet about a dc candidate weve barely heard of, creates a post linking those rumours to Sherron and questioning his decision making and now we give a shit.
Maybe this non-news was always non-news.
January 29th, 2024 at 6:28 PM ^
I think it was news that was not given the proper context on the board's post.
January 29th, 2024 at 6:33 PM ^
Word is Moore did reach out but never offered a DC position. Last I heard they were still planning to promote Clink. This is a guy that Moore knew from a previous stop and he reached out in case Elston decided to leave. There is a potential that a CO-DC could have been negotiated, but Clink was to be the guy calling the Ravens scheme. I think Elston has also been offered another title to help entice him to stay. Elston is a college guy at heart, so it would be very surprising if he left. I’m surprised they haven’t announced anything on that side of the ball though, especially if Clink is being promoted and Elston is getting an upgrade in title, possible Co-DC as well. Possibly still negotiating terms.
Ben wanted 10 years at S&C, would have settled for 7 and a 10% pay increase. Warde didn’t want to do either. I think if he had offered even an extra year from his last extension and a 10-15% increase Ben would have stuck around. With that said, Ben and Moore do feel like Tress can carry on with Ben’s program. The question is how does he connect with players? S&C guys are the ones around players the absolute most. They’re a big part of development and recruiting. Tress is younger and a lot of the guys like him, but a bunch of current guys are still really upset Ben is gone.
The BS about Hart quitting is just that. Hart might look for somewhere he can become a coordinator and get a chance to finally move up. So there is a chance he moves on, but he has not just up and quit the team which is another rumor being spread that’s crazy. Hart will interview for some positions elsewhere, but highly unlikely he follows Harbaugh. People seem to forget Hart and Harbaugh have history. They put it behind them for the team and have worked well together, but Hart isn’t one to just follow Harbaugh around. They’re professional together, but certainly not best friends of any kind. Moving to the Chargers to be a RB coach wouldn’t do him any favors to getting his dream job. He’ll look for somewhere that will promote him and eventually try to become a HC.
January 29th, 2024 at 6:44 PM ^
You sound like you have inside information:). Where, pray tell, did you get this info? Gotta say, it sounds legit. The Ben Herbert thing is distressing. If that is what he wanted to stay, we should have forked it over. Not a good look for our beloved (s/) AD. Everything should be done to help Moore succeed. By choosing to not pay Herbert, Manuel is actively sabotaging Moore, as Herbert is a cornerstone of the program.
January 29th, 2024 at 7:10 PM ^
Yea $100k more seems like a drop in the bucket when saving $8M on HC
January 29th, 2024 at 7:15 PM ^
There could be additional context to make the Herbert stuff seem less bad but that just doesn't sound great. Yes, it's a huge investment. But considering the money that is not going to Harbaugh now, seems like everyone else is reasonable to try to get a piece of what is being "saved" by not spending it on Harbaugh.
Clink and/or Elston at least keeps the scheme intact. If the players don't leave it will still be good for at least one more year. If the players start leaving, then poop.
As for Hart and Harbaugh, maybe there's more, but isn't the "history" between them that Harbaugh talked shit about Michigan re: academics and athletes when he took the Stanford job in 2007, and Hart (who was 21 or so at the time) defended Michigan? Seriously, that's something they can't get past? I mean, obviously they have gotten past it. Doesn't mean they're close. But it's crazy to think that would be the reason they don't get along, especially since Harbaugh, you know, hired Hart.
January 29th, 2024 at 8:52 PM ^
This epitomizes the small-minded thinking of Warde. Even though he is saving tens of millions by betting on a first time head coach with almost no experience (in part, for continuity), he cannot help but cheap out and refuse to spend another $1-2M on an extension for the person universally hailed as a key contributor to the current culture and success. I just cannot fathom how so many people on this board can look at everything that Warde has done and defend him.
January 29th, 2024 at 7:21 PM ^
It was reported by Sam Webb, it’s not just message board fodder
January 30th, 2024 at 2:30 AM ^
We have no idea how close Sam Webb is to Moore and his thinking. None.
Moore checking in w a guy he knows does not equal "offering DC" job.
