07/19/2018 - 2:05pm And besides...Speight did…

And besides...Speight did win the job in camp which is exactly what you want from your starting QB.

07/19/2018 - 2:03pm No way...Speight and every…

No way...Speight and every QB that comes through should expect to earn it in every camp. Which means showing leadership and dedication through the off-season (and that can happen even if he was recovering from injury. Plus if he's too injured to compete in camp then he's probably too injured to start).

Setting up a different set of standards around ONE guy, esp. at a leadership position, would be a disaster for team morale.

07/17/2018 - 7:17pm Exactly....I'm here no less…

Exactly....I'm here no less often than I'd expect during the mid-summer period. The site is fine and like anything else new will take some time to get entirely comfortable but that's coming.

This place will be in full force once the season comes around and that is when the real test will come...will the servers hold up their end of the deal when UM rolls into (and hopefully over) South Bend.

07/17/2018 - 10:17am You don't get there…

You don't get there overnight but UM is getting close.

If you figure 8-5 last year could have been a 10 win season w either a full-season from a QB or a full season of decent Oline play then maybe UM is just a couple of steps away from being able to reload. Recruiting has to be consistent but that will come when UM wins big this year and sends half the team to the league for the second time in 3 years.

07/17/2018 - 10:11am I agree on Higdon. Maybe…

I agree on Higdon. Maybe Winovich or Kinnel on D. Amazing how few Seniors there are on the team.

07/15/2018 - 3:44pm CALM DOWN..hell no..this is…

CALM DOWN..hell no..this is Mgoblog there will be none of that "calming down" BS around here...PANIC!!! is much more fun :)

07/15/2018 - 3:35pm The whole 'one and done'…

The whole 'one and done' thing needs to just be 'done' with...its doesn't fit with the idea of 'student-athlete' when a guy has absolutely no intent of doing the 'student' part. Its such a farce and makes the whole thing look silly....everyone just pretending like these guys give 2 shits about being apart of a team/program when they already have one foot out the door.

07/13/2018 - 9:11pm Cant wait for this season..I…

Cant wait for this season..I think a LOT of naysayers will be silenced by this team.

07/13/2018 - 7:35pm 10/19 total recruits on O

5…

10/19 total recruits on O

5/9 4 or 5-Star recruits on O

That looks pretty balanced to me.

07/13/2018 - 10:51am Don't think too many people…

Don't think too many people saw a 10 win team in Harbaugh's first year. The team didn't even have a serviceable QB when he arrived...and I don't think there was a single pre-season first team All-Conference player on the team. Two-seasons later and nearly half the team is drafted by the NFL.

That was an over-achievement IMO.

07/12/2018 - 8:46pm Felicia...is that you?

Felicia...is that you?

07/12/2018 - 7:21pm Do you have any meat to add…

Do you have any meat to add to this bone?

Because yeah of course the national pundits are going to suggest that he is LIKELY to stay out west..if for no other reason than he is from out west. Which, yeah MOST of the top talent on the west coast stay out west. That's the easy take.  So, do you have more to offer that suggests he's blowing smoke when he says he'd like to go out of state?

And for the record, I have no idea where he's leaning or what is likely to happen. But if you are going to push back on the more optimistic take from the good Dr. it would be useful if you offered more than 'prevailing wisdow says he stays out west'. Is this "wisdom" based on something coming from Ford's camp or is it just the 'best in the west usually stay out west' type of prevailing wisdom?

07/11/2018 - 10:52am Do you really think Jim…

Do you really think Jim Harbaugh doesn't know how an O should be co-ordinated? Really....

Step back from the computer for a second and think about what you are writing because that makes zero sense.

07/11/2018 - 10:38am Dude how can you call out…

Dude how can you call out his parents based on some unsubstantiated second/third hand info?

People need to chill that out...parenting and guiding a young man with his potential through the recruiting process has to be challenging.

07/09/2018 - 7:33am Deveon Smith would like a…

Deveon Smith would like a word with you....

Harbaugh is known for physical offenses and physical backs.

07/08/2018 - 9:03pm Exactly....NO one here is…

Exactly....NO one here is likely to get their hopes up so the disappointment will be limited if he goes to OSU...on the other hand....imagine the meltdown in OSU land IF he chooses UM....that would be epic :)

07/05/2018 - 5:21pm Thanks for the info on ND.

Thanks for the info on ND.

Any thoughts on their returning offensive skill and defense personnel?

07/05/2018 - 5:18pm FSU is a high quality…

FSU is a high quality opponent. So 2 out of ND's last 3 games are going to be on the national radar (FSU and USC).

07/05/2018 - 5:13pm "Even if we had a spring…

"Even if we had a spring game this year, I'm not sure if anyone has an idea what the offense will look like."

And this is a good thing. ND will have no idea what's coming at them w zero tape on the Shea Patterson led UM Offense. JH is a detail freak and those 4 hour practices will have the O far ahead of where you'd expect in game one.

But what do we know about ND? What are their expected strengths and weaknesses?

07/05/2018 - 10:09am Agreed...when Coach Brown…

Agreed...when Coach Brown made that unsolicited comment about DM that spoke volumes. If DM has Coach Brown's attention then I think its fair to assume that he's coming along particularly well.

You are trying too hard....

07/02/2018 - 3:29pm London, England

Pros:

*…

London, England

Pros:

* Maybe the most diverse city in the world. Everyone is in London and it challenges all the preconceptions...a good thing.

* Parks: The Brits take their parks serious. You need the green space to escape to day to day

* Public Transportation: I don't drive in London and never feel like I'm missing out on anything. The tub, buses, overground, shared bikes all work together very well

* Safety: I know the guy in the Oval Office has screamed on twitter and fox news about how London is being over-run by Muslim terrorists and knife weilding gangsters but I honestly feel safer in London than I do in pretty much any major city (and most small cities) in the U.S. Yes, there is crime and it is a problem in certain areas..but w/o all the guns and with there being so many people around it just feels safer.

* National Health Services: Its a big deal to be able to go into a doctors office and NOT have to worry from the moment you arrive (often in distress) about the costs. Yes, its far from perfect..but there is piece of mind that comes with the NHS that I only felt in the U.S. when I was working for a corporate. Being self-employed changed all that.

* The museums and activities: All of the major museums are free to enter. And there is always something to do.

* Schools: I think the schools overall are pretty good (my son is 10 and has had a good, well-rounded experience thus far) but the quality varies widely.

Cons:

* Cost of Living/Housing. London is one of the most expensive cities in the world and people have to make crazy sacrifices to live there including accepting living conditions that are way overprices and often not very nice (a lot of old, poorly maintained properties).

* Pollution: Some of the worst air for any major city in the west. London way exceeds the limits set by the EU for particulates.

* Noise/crowds: Can feel like the world is closing in on you..especially during commuting hours

* Brexit: Are these people crazy...an isolated British Island is going to suffer big time

* Far from 'Home": Grew up in Michigan and sometimes I miss the familiar

* Hard to watch UM Football...especially night games. Nothing worst that staying up all night to watch a game only to have UM lose. That can ruin a week.

Does anyone know what time this is supposed to happen?

I'd kind of like to get some things done today instead of sitting here 'refreshing' the day away. :)

That move he puts on the defender in that The Opening vid is straight nasty...the defender had NO chance.

07/01/2018 - 7:16pm Nope...

Recruit nationally…

Nope...

Recruit nationally and bring in the best players/fit possible. And win some damn championships please. That will make this recruiting thing a lot easier. I mean, JH has recruited well, but imagine what recruiting will look like after UM wins the B1G this year...its going to be so sweeeet  :)

Well just a few mins past 4:20 but it still very much appropriate for this Happy Canada Day

Definitely don't want a Hooker in jail...Hooker might have a problem walking out of there.

Don't think anyone needs to light a fire under JH. He knew there were problems last year and he aggressively addressed them.

Najee was recruited by TW...not sure how that's a knock on Jay.

06/29/2018 - 6:57pm The Oline turmoil and staff…

The Oline turmoil and staff shake up had to have an impact on relationships and recruiting, there's no way around it. I'm sure JH knew this but nevertheless it was a critical shake up for the future of the program.

06/26/2018 - 6:02pm And some good cannabinoids…

And some good cannabinoids can help with stress among other things...:)

06/26/2018 - 5:57pm Meditation, sex, exercise…

Meditation, sex, exercise and time with friends and family and in nature.

Just started meditation regularly before starting the day. Also, introduced it to my 10 year old son so we often do it together.

Sex...that's a healthy way to connect and relief stress. Always has been and always will be when done respectfully and safely.

Running...that has always helped lower my stress. I go with my son and we also play basketball and tennis together.

Just time connecting with family and friends. Put the phone down and put aside the worry about 'likes' and 'friends' and keep your head in the real world for a few hours works wonders for me.

Nature....I live in hyper Stressed out London but near to a intercity Marsh with tons of open land, horses, cows and water fowl. Just feeding and stroking the horses or sitting a watch the birds above are good ways to come down.

Don't worry..there is NOTHING like a Dantonio Redlock, nothing in the history of mankind

06/08/2018 - 4:16pm Alabama's back up Frosh QB…

Alabama's back up Frosh QB came in and led the team to a Natty last year...and is in the running to start this year. That's making a name for your self.

05/25/2018 - 9:39am Yep and is sure seems that

Yep and is sure seems that Coach Harbaugh has acknowledged that the coaching was not good enough. And when there is THAT much dysfunction it can be hard to know as a fan exactly what went wrong inside of the coaching room. So, I'm going to trust the guy who has coaching in his veins and has done it at the highest level to know who needed to stay and who needed to go...

So Pep stays and will be under a very bright light this year along w JH and the rest of the O staff..but I'm sure he and JH know this already. As a fan, I'm pulling for him and the O staff to make that 180.

05/24/2018 - 4:25pm Girth...definitely girth..but

Girth...definitely girth..but its nice to have length too

05/14/2018 - 6:16am Re-read your

Re-read your statement...saying something 'may' have had an impact and that he 'may' have gone to another school really waters it down.

In other words..who knows?

Win some big games and that is a surefire way to get kids excited about a program. Daily phone calls or not.

05/10/2018 - 5:04pm Not necessarily....this is

Not necessarily....this is Bama which is basically a pro team. That's not a team to base generalisations on one way or the other.

05/10/2018 - 4:59pm People need to keep in mind

People need to keep in mind that UM's Run game is much better than what he had at Ole Miss and that is what will make a world of difference for the Oline/protection.

You combine a QB like Shea with what UM is bringing back in the run game and the whole Offense is going to make a giant leap forward. The Oline is going to look a lot better as a result too.

05/10/2018 - 4:50pm Man he throws a beautiful

Man he throws a beautiful ball to all parts of the field and he showed some real composure for a true Soph.

05/10/2018 - 4:40pm With Shea UM will be

With Shea UM will be returning the more accomplished QB of the two teams..now of course its a long season so by the time The Game rolls around Haskins MIGHT be the better of the two, but as of right now its Shea.

When was the last time UM started the season ahead at the QB position? And its not just Shea...UM's QB stable is stronger than OSU's.

05/08/2018 - 5:06am Don't know if UM will have

Don't know if UM will have better overall talent on O but it should definitely have a better running game and you have to have some balance to have a shot against teams like LSU and Bama..or the best teams in the B1G.

05/08/2018 - 4:48am That's an unrealistic

That's an unrealistic bar.

You are not going to make the really good teams look bad but what UM hasn't had is a QB that could just hold his own against good teams from start to finish. I mean the really good teams are at that level for a reason and you are not going to beat them regularly if you are expecting your QB to play lights out against them.

UM likely beats OSU the last two season (and the team makes the playoffs two years ago) if the QB play is just less erractic. Not great...just not horrible at the worst possible times.

05/02/2018 - 3:49pm JH isn't blindly loyal. He's

JH isn't blindly loyal. He's worked with a lot of coaches at all levels. He's hired and cut-ties with a lot more coaches than most HC that I'm familar with. That's one of the reasons he has such an impressive coaching tree. And it wasn't all that clear that Drevno was the problem until this past season.

And as for not seeing this and making mid-season changes. That's easier said than done. You spend all of camp working on concepts...you are not going to abandon them easily. Plus when you consider the lack of continuity at the QB position and the overall youth of the team it is not surprising that he may have waited too long to make changes.

But to his credit..he clearly saw and acknowledge the problems and made significant changes to address them..which included letting his buddy go.
