Sam Webb said Sabb left so…

Sam Webb said Sabb left so that he could be a starter and not a rotational piece to give him more opportunity to showcase himself for the draft.

To me it means he might get…

To me it means he might get lots of playing time, will probably be rotational player at best.

If he’s being told no competition at Kentucky, he’s guaranteed lots of minutes and not much competition behind him to pass him by later.

Channeling my inner-Craig…

Channeling my inner-Craig Ross, apparently, by quoting Ben Folds lyrics:

I hate to listen
But lately it's been screaming in my ear

He finally stole the…

He finally stole the controller from the 15 year old playing with OSU on dynasty mode.

Lucky for Stover, Houston is…

Lucky for Stover (and Stroud), Houston is not scheduled to play Washington with Sainristil.

Honestly I don't know WTF …

Honestly I don't know WTF "pro-style" even means anymore.

When Harbaugh went to the NFL from Stanford he ran "college" stuff. When he came back to Michigan he ran "pro" stuff. It was the same stuff.

Then Harbaugh ran spread with Shea to go to "college" stuff. Then back to under center for "pro" stuff (the consensus description of what JJ did at Michigan).

Meanwhile his brother is running Lamar in Baltimore, Mahomes is doing whatever the eff he wants in KC, and Brady ran a "pro" spread for two decades, not under center.

As long as your playbook is more than three plays, it's a real offense afaik.

BTN plus? Seriously? The B1G really loves to kill interest in hockey/soccer/lacrosse.

In hindsight, if only Rod Moore had gone to the draft.

Did she go to the NWSL?…

Did she go to the NWSL? Because the U.S. pro leagues also go coast to coast...

But no doubt a pro league will take better care of you than college including when it comes to travel schedule.

I just assumed this was happening. Didn't know it was a question.

Sorry for the Lion diehards…

Sorry for the Lion diehards who can’t reconcile this but I will find it easy to root for JJ and Detroit. This was JJ’s best spot for finding success so I love it.

Thamel also got his first name wrong. Granted, he was waaaaaayyyyyy closer.

Jayden Rashada has committed to Georgia, per his agent, Henry Organ, of Disruptive Spirts.

I'm counting Harbaugh as one so I think we tie at least.

What's the downside? Players…

What's the downside? Players transfer in and out of schools more frequently than before? That has as much to do with the new portal rules as NIL.

Well. Add DB to the portal…

Well. Add DB to the portal shopping list.

What the…Why was he standing…

What the…Why was he standing there?!

Crazily it was never…

Crazily it was never reported (that I recall) in any of the gazillion stories and everyone (it seemed) presumed we were talking almost exclusively about the placards.

But what is the strategic purpose for that, is what I wonder. Is it that CS was able to get good enough intel on the placards just from the usual methods (i.e., TV broadcasts) and needed additional visuals on the hand signs?

I heard Klatt get all…

I heard Klatt get all indignant about this awhile ago. The number of commercial breaks are not increased. However, I sort of assume this means that instead of going to commercials after a kickoff, they will stay on air and do ad reads, and that will be the ad break that gets "removed."

But for what it's worth,…

But for what it's worth, Stalions was never getting the scouting info on the signs, only the hand gestures.

This sounds like new information...and also doesn't make sense to me.

Actually, Ryan Day should…

Actually, Ryan Day should get credit for forcing the change since everyone in the game (including Ohio State) wanted to keep sign stealing as part of the game until Ohio State complained about it.

I looked and did not see…

I looked and did not see that detail anywhere, although I didn't search forever so I may have missed it.

Also, I don't have any kind of kickstarter account to enter my address in personal settings.

I had the same question as the OP, but I also assumed that we'd get this detail once the kickstarter closed. I figured it would be something along the lines of what was described above.

You misspelled Scotty in your quote.

Obviously. That's why my…

Obviously. That's why my assumption is that the Virginia law is permitting a situation where athletes can be paid as contractors but not employees since the Virginia law reportedly specifies that players cannot be employees (or at least not in the capacity of "athlete").

I haven't read the Virginia…

I haven't read the Virginia law, but the story presented it as they're allowed to pay NIL. NIL (officially) is not straight-up money for playing, so yeah, I would assume that's still the case.

What the school can do, I'm sure, is only offer contracts to people who it makes sense for them to go into business with. Obviously if you want to promote UVA football, you're only going to hire people from UVA football.

As long as we're misspelling…

As long as we're misspelling names, can we call him Pippin and then sing Pippin songs at the games?

"We've got magic to do, just for you..."

Said something like this in…

Said something like this in the last JJ thread:

If you make a Big Board, I don't know where JJ goes, but I'm sure it's nowhere near #5. But the draft isn't based on the Big Board, especially with QB. People saying JJ is late first round or 2nd round struggle with understanding this.

They look at Kirk Cousins or Brock Purdy (if you project that as a JJ comp) and are like, those guys went in the 4th and 7th round! Yeah, so what? If they were in this draft right now they would go high in the first round.

Everyone could try to be like, oh, well, JJ isn't true first-round value so Imma gonna wait to draft him and get my forever QB in the 2nd where his true value is. Except then someone else will take him before that happens because he's a QB.

There are only 32 starters and you kind of have to have a Top 12 guy and it's even better when they're on rookie contracts. I don't understand why people are freaking out about JJ going Top 5.

So...they're contractors,…

So...they're contractors, right?

The players would be getting paid appearance fees for events (charity/fundraising events or signing events) and for doing acting or modeling for advertising campaigns for the school. Basically they're doing gigs. And they'd be allowed to do those same gigs for anybody, not just the school.

Yep. Throw it to Nico.

Yep. Throw it to Nico.

Before collectives existed,…

Before collectives existed, schools could just go around and raise money for their departments. Once collectives became a thing, it became very difficult for schools to navigate fundraising because they wanted the same number of dollars for the athletic department but also needed donors to give to the collectives. If NIL can go directly back to the athletic department's budget, they will cease working with the collectives, or just absorb them. The messaging will be simple again: Give us all your money.

Can someone smarter than me…

Can someone smarter than me tell me how this won't put schools in different states at a massive competitive disadvantage?

Are you expecting an explanation for this? Of course it's an advantage if you can pay players directly versus other schools that can't.

Title IX is not addressed…
  1. Title IX is not addressed. So that will be decided in the courts once someone sues.
  2. I don't see how they're employees if it's a contract service with the players.
  3. It would be public information for public schools only.

In theory, isn't the NCAA…

In theory, isn't the NCAA removing all Virginia schools from the association a possible outcome? The state might be able to sue the NCAA for imposing penalties, but surely the state cannot force the NCAA to accept schools as members.

A moot point, I'm sure, as the NCAA would never do that.

And yet he always says don’t call in. When’s the last time the roundtable was a call-in segment?

I agree, and despite my comment below, it's not impossible that Orji improves to where they want him. But it sounds like Denegal is zooming through his development while Orji is going more slowly with fixing bad habits.

Edit: Or am I reading this passage backwards?

There was clear separation between Orji and him at that point, but not as much since then. He's closed the gap in recent practices with his improved accuracy and has shown better skills on the move than outside observers might expect at first glance.

I've been one of the louder …

I've been one of the louder "Don't count Orji out just yet" guys, but...it's probably time for me to move on.

Moussa was draftable before…

Moussa was draftable before he got to Michigan. I'm not going to knock Howard for his lack of development--he didn't get the opportunity. But I don't recall Diabate being a significantly different player from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.

As for Reed, Reed has had some growth, but it has felt underwhelming for what expectations were. Again, how much chance did Juwan have this year to really coach with his health issues, who knows. But I do believe there's a lot of potential left to tap with Reed.

It's over in the sense that…

It's over in the sense that it has no impact on him. Why even waste time talking to the NCAA? They're irrelevant to him.

But considering Mars's statement, it seems that Mars/Harbaugh are still concerned with the outcome, so in that sense it's not over.

But I was actually responding to NitFan saying that Mars/Harbaugh should not drag out the burgergate fight and should bring it to full closure (or ignore it) for the sake of Michigan.

Well, I was responding to…

Well, I was responding to this part:

What's insane to me is that everyone just didn't admit it.  LSU & Air Force committed COVID impermissible contact violations too: their penalties were all Level-2.  Take the Level-2 penalty, which admittedly isn't insignificant, and move on, you got caught.

But everyone did admit it. And as someone else pointed out, Harbaugh didn't even really deny it, he just said he didn't remember, which the NCAA determined was a lie, because they evidently have access to Harbaugh's memories.

And NitFan says take the Level 2 violation, which is exactly what Michigan has done.

Maybe Harbaugh will personally get hit with a level 1 violation, but the program is not.

The link doesn't work for me…

The link doesn't work for me. Is it just me? All I get is a Cover 3 podcast video with no sound. I had to search for the Dodd article separately to find it.

I'm thoroughly confused by…

I'm thoroughly confused by every part of your post here.

You say "if this letter exists." Dodd says CBS Sports obtained it. Are you suggesting we should consider that Dodd is lying about this?

And it's a trump card how? That Mars could have used it to dunk on the NCAA back in October? I don't see how that would have changed anything other than to make the NCAA even more antagonistic.

Also, I think you're implying that Mars has made this public now in retaliation for the Burger-gate sanctions. Yes? No? That might be true. I don't think it's obviously true. But even if it is true, why would Mars leak it anonymously? And why would Mars/Harbaugh just be glad that burgergate is over? For them, it is not over at all--or it was over as soon as Harbaugh left Michigan. Regardless, I think they're both very much just holding a grudge against the NCAA. I don't think they're worried about Michigan's sanctions at this point.

Other than Harbaugh's …
  1. Other than Harbaugh's "obstruction of justice" or whatever, wasn't it all Level 2 violations at Michigan?
  2. It's not that I'm totally disinterested in the CMU thing, but as it stands right now, it's not really that interesting anymore, is it? I think it's pretty clear it was CS. And it's pretty clear someone from CMU got him on the sideline, unless you think he figured out on his own how to get his hands on the exact CMU coaching outfit and also used his super secret spy skillllllzzzzzz to sneak onto the sideline. And it's pretty clear he did this at the behest of someone from CMU to help decode MSU's signs, or perhaps it was his own dumb ass idea for the lulz and he convinced his buddy to help him. Lots of possible CMU connections for him, most likely Kostner. I know the rival school's fantasy is that Minter or Harbaugh told CS to go do this, but it's undeniably more effective to use his standard M.O. of sending someone to video tape from the stands, to say nothing of the fact that videoing from the stands is also far less risky. All of which is to say, there's nothing left to that story that's particularly intriguing and it continues to stand simply as an example of how weird a dude CS is.
