11/23/2018 - 8:48pm Okay, one last story from…

Okay, one last story from the era.

In April, 1970, two friends and myself, all recent Michigan graduates, stopped in Columbus overnight on our way to Huntington, WVA.  We hit several local bars before landing in an OSU student bar.  We were talking up 3 coeds about the 1969 game and future challenges.   One of the young ladies stated confidently that they had everyone coming back and would take care of our rear ends in November in Columbus.  I responded that I would kick Jim Otis' (fullback/running back) ass right then and there.  Note: I was/am 5'6", 125 pounds.  One of the coeds pointed behind me as the world's largest paw landed on my shoulder and swivelled me around.  Be damned, it was Jim Otis.  All 5"10", 240 pounds were Cheshire cat grinning in my face.

I froze.  My friends retreated, though they claimed they had my back.  The girls were roaring.  But it was just an amazing coincidence.  He had not heard a word that I had said.  He just wanted to show someone (me, the closest guy) that while he was deep French kissing one woman, another had her hand down his pants.

Been a long time since I told this story.  Hope Jim is in the stands as the team does what I could only dream of.

11/23/2018 - 10:36am For my edification only.

For my edification only.

That Saturday morning I borrowed a car to drive to Detroit to interview a Teamster President (not Hoffa) regarding the Detroit newspaper strike.  He was good enough to meet early so that I could be back in time to listen to the game with my roommates (711 Arch Street).  Good game for about one half.

Actually had a date that evening...hoping to celebrate a big win.  Oh, well (was that just a haiku?)

11/13/2018 - 2:04pm The 2 women sitting in front…

The 2 women sitting in front of us in section 19 (husbands sitting elsewhere that day) left as Indiana scored.  When we ran into them as we were leaving the stadium, they asked us not to tell their hubands the next week.  We promised.  Squealed on them immediately at the next game.  Did not hear Ufer's PBP until back at the car.  Great day.

As the play unfolds, Hawkins continues to point frantically to his left (at Kinnel?) instead of moving aggressively in that direction.  Why?

11/10/2018 - 6:28pm Ron, George Hoey, Warren…

Ron, George Hoey, Warren Sipp, and someone else lived above us at 1001 Forest Avenue.  Friendly, happy guys.  Only game I ever missed was the Wisconsin game.  Came home in a driving rain after writing a paper for Sidney Fine's class to watch the end.  I am sad.

Thanks for providing this service.  Although I did do my due diligence prior to voting (absentee, already), I probably would have been swayed to change a vote if I had listened to the podcast before voting.

We have rented a home (cottage) on Chincoteague starting Friday.  Fully paid, no returns.  Was so looking forward to it.  Good health and good luck to MGocoasters.

I agree with your sentiment.  But.... you can take any cheap water bottle from Costco, fold it up until it fits into your wallet, and walk in.  Once in, one good puff will put it back to usable mode. There are several places to fill a bottle in the stadium.  No line up.

08/16/2018 - 1:47pm Watch each and every play at…

Watch each and every play at least twice looking for nuance.  Catch up at halftime.  Radio is always playing in another room so that I can keep current if I have to.  My younger son always calls from Media, PA at halftime and after game to go over how we have been cheated.

Ah! Tradition.

WOW!  Again, in Michigan,…

WOW!  Again, in Michigan, during the recession property taxes plummetted (sp) with the housing values but then could only rise with inflation (Headlee Ammendment).  This and reduced state revenue sharing caused the poorest of cities (Flint, Detroit, Pontiac, Muskegon, etc.) to be taken over by outside managers named by the State.

06/15/2018 - 10:53am Links, Links, Lynx

Links, Links, Lynx

Copied this from a previous poster.  I do not know who.

Inserting URLs for Links

It took some time before I figured out that the way to post links in MGoBlog 3.0 is to (a) copy the URL for the link, (b) click the link icon at the top of the message box, (c) paste the URL in the box and (d) click save.  That's how you can insert the link in your post so that it takes just one click to connect to an article or a YouTube video.

Also, if, like I do, you prefer to insert the link into some text like Michigan Marching Band Pregame, so that the lengthy URL doesn't appear in the body of your post, (a) copy the URL for the link, (b) highlight the text where you'd like to insert the link's URL, (c) click the link icon at the top of the message box, (d) paste the URL in the box and (e) click save. The link then should be inserted in the highlighted part of the text.

06/09/2018 - 11:12am One of my favorite posts…

One of my favorite posts from all time is an article from Black Heart Gold Pants about new MSU uniforms that were actually redesigned UofM uniforms:

in which it is stated:

When reached for comment about the new jerseys, Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio gritted his teeth, glared, and calmly took a nitroglycerin tablet from his shirt pocket. He then swallowed the tablet along with the coal-black rage he felt at this latest and most egregious slight, sending both down to the furnace of hate deep in his soul which drives him in his unrelenting quest for college football dominance no matter the cost.

06/02/2018 - 12:59pm Gophers are so very thin

The transfer leaves Minnesota wit only one scholarship quarterback, Tanner Morgan, RS Freshman.

06/02/2018 - 8:32am Old Guys Choices

Karen Carpenter for pop.

John Kaye (Steppenwolf) for rock.

05/30/2018 - 1:42pm Purdue 1995

Stayed for the whole game but saw none of the scoring.  Scored just as we were entering the stadium and in the second half while I was with my friends son in the bathroom rubbing his feet (no comments, please).  Purdue did not almost score at the end of the game.  We were inside the 5 yard line about to score, but chose to take a knee as time ran out.

05/20/2018 - 8:49pm Kubrick

Dr. Strangelove and A Clockwork Orange.

My group of friends use phrases and references from the above as the Mgobloggers use Seinfeld.

05/17/2018 - 1:54pm South Bend

Old guys response.

Drove in with my bike in hand.  Spent the morning touring before meeting up with friends.  Old guys part:  Plenty of room.  I did not have to stand to let other get by nor did I have to adjust to stand and sit during game.

05/12/2018 - 8:14pm In Media, PA

Had Grey Sail's Captain's Daughter Double IPA.  Most enjoyable.

04/15/2018 - 10:29am Variety

It appears that the nutrition plan provides greater variety keeping everyone interested in eating.  The spice of life.

04/13/2018 - 2:10pm Probably has been said before

Watch Nunez' right (shooting) hand.  Just so quick and smooth.

04/08/2018 - 12:59pm Stats

Heard this statistic in church this morning:  11.7 million opioid prescriptions written in Michigan in 2016.  That is 115 for every 100 people.

04/04/2018 - 11:13am Maryland young man

May I suggest the nickname "Fort McHeny"?

04/03/2018 - 5:03pm Adding to this

We did shoot 66% from inside the arc.

03/20/2018 - 10:51am I never ever respond to any comments like this

but, grew up very poor, lucky to get a scholarship to Michigan, did well, worked hard, retired to ease, constantly read the blog.

03/18/2018 - 5:53pm I do have a theory

Coach Izzo is always complaining that (some of) his starters have been too exhausted during games to play their best.  As one of the few coaches/teams to not use the Catapult system during practice sessions, I think he is wearing out the players during practice time.  Missed their last 14 shots.  Maybe?

03/13/2018 - 6:53pm Switch defensive assignments?

Seems that MAAR on Rorie and Simpson on Oguine would be a better fit.

03/08/2018 - 6:03pm FT%

56% last nine games.  19/34

03/05/2018 - 1:18pm Did you notice?

Coach Beilein had something special to say to each of the Boilermakers' seniors.

02/24/2018 - 10:36am Dwayne Stephens

Does anyone remember a rather suspect posting from years back regarding a retired Chicago basketball coach telling the poster that Dwayne Stephens was MSU's bagman for the Chicago area?  In the posting it was related that Coach Beilein was "not to be trusted".  Anyone?

02/21/2018 - 11:06pm police report

I swear to goodness that I saw the police report online around the time that the Title IX situation reared its head.  Remember the specifics.  Most disgusting.  Police absolutely recommended the the 2 be charged with rape. Where did the report go?

02/20/2018 - 8:35pm American in Paris

Saw the DSO's performance of American in Paris last Friday.  Quicker and "pushed forward".  Liked my traditional version more.  Still fun to listen to a version as Gershwin heard it.

02/09/2018 - 10:00am Just discussing snow days

My wife and I were both educators and benefitted? from so many snow days.  Great to be home with the kids.  But as students in Detroit and suburban Detroit we only had one snowday during our student life: February, 1965 24 inches.  Pushed out a lot of cars that day.

02/08/2018 - 9:02pm Great news

but "dry needle therapy sounds oh so painful.  Takes a man.

02/01/2018 - 9:43am I liked

I liked the shareholder primacy versus stakeholder primacy analogy.  Could take that argument a long way.

01/13/2018 - 4:40pm Scott Frost

of college basketball.

01/11/2018 - 10:06pm Sell it with your eyes

Never heard that before for football.  An absolute basketball move.

01/10/2018 - 9:44am Force/Vectors

Isn't every ball knocked out of an offensive player's hand out of bounds last touched by the player in control of the ball?  I can envision no other scenario.

01/08/2018 - 12:12pm Steven Threet

Always felt bad about Steven Threet.  4 star out of Adrian, MI who went to Georgia Tech just as they were switching to their famous running game.  Sits out a year after transferring here only to slam into RR's spread.  Transfers again to Arizona State where he beats out Osweiler and has a decent junior year.  Retires at the end of that year because of concussion problems.…

01/07/2018 - 12:46pm Dick Van Dykes'sleepwalking brother

For those of us who are ancient, he was Dick Van Dyke's (Rob Petri) sleepwalking brother who was extremely shy when awake and crazy wild when asleep.  Continuously played Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey on the banjo.

12/24/2017 - 9:47am Brother

Felt good to donate, finally.  Also, for my brother Walt who died from glioblastoma (agent orange?) this year.  Miss him.

11/13/2017 - 2:50pm The Catch

Not a big deal but you (I) can see the point of the ball hit the turf on the first replay.  The ball is inside his right elbow.  That replay was never replayed.  Not a catch.

09/03/2017 - 4:53pm His step

It appears that when Wilton throws innacurately, he is not stepping toward his target but to the left opening himself up.  Of course, very large people are coming after him.
