Submitted by scanner blue on December 26th, 2018 at 8:49 AM

We have a bowl game in three days and no one is talking football, tickets , what bar in Aukland is M friendly, etc. soooo.....time for a little OT.

Simple questions: 1. Why/what/who is your MGo Name? 2. Why/ what/ WTF is your avatar pic?

MGoStrength

December 26th, 2018 at 9:45 AM ^

Why: Mgo after the website

What: Strength because I love strength training

Who: Well, it's me

WTF is my avatar: It's a picture of my fiancee and I at PSU in '15

BigWeb

BigWeb is my nickname, 6-5 280. #17 is my number I always had playing baseball because I wanted to be a pro ball player.

Picture....my maize and blue tat I designed and my Michigan shooos

Malum In Se

December 26th, 2018 at 9:47 AM ^

1) Malum In Se is latin for "inherently evil/wrong."  The Romans called obvious crimes like murder Malum In Se.  Something that was illegal just because the government said it was illegal was Malum Prohibitum.  As soon as I read about it in law school, I started using it online because it was usually available.

2) It is a picture of Colonel Mustard from Clue.  I used to be ColMustard on mlive back when mlive had its message boards.  I was more active on the Lions forum than the UofM one.

TheRonimal

Favorite poster was probably RollDamnTide and the way that all went down.

My name was inspired by Isiah Whitlocks character in the movie Cedar Rapids. He was The Ronimal. My name is Aaron and I've had a ton of different nicknames over the years. Around the time I saw Cedar Rapids some friends had been shortening my name to Ron so naturally that became The Ronimal. I also wanted a new name on here around that time and the rest is history.

Mr Miggle

December 26th, 2018 at 9:53 AM ^

Name and avatar are both of an obscure character in the old comic strip Pogo. Mr Miggle was a stork who ran a general store, not a great place to find bargains.

1. It's my name

2.  My avatar is a picture of my wife.

I like having my name as my username because it encourages me to only say something I'd be willing to stand behind publicly. No hiding behind anonymity. We also are all Michigan fans, football fans, blue fans, etc., so an avatar like that doesn't tell anything.

My avatar is always a good reminder. One of these days I'm going to scan in another similar photo. Maybe for the next 10 years.

The Baughz

December 26th, 2018 at 9:54 AM ^

I was watching The Boz documentary on ESPN and really enjoyed it. I decided to make it my name with a Michigan/Harbaugh spin on it. I know, not very clever.

Avatar is gangster Harbaugh.

1. I'm a Michigan fan since birth, and I've been a lacrosse fan ever since I started watching in 2008. Duke was fun to watch and was recovering from their fake news scandal earlier in the decade, so that Duke team was sort of a victim of the media. Duke made their second straight Final Four appearance in 2008 and would continue on to make six more consecutive Final Fours and won three national championships. This was all before Michigan started their lacrosse program, so I was and still am a Duke fan.

2. Michigan and Duke colors.

UM Indy

December 26th, 2018 at 9:56 AM ^

Name pretty obvious.

Picture made more sense when words  used to show up with it. It’s John Heisman and the quote is “Gentlemen, it is better to have died as a young boy than to fumble this football.”

Love that quote.

1989 UM GRAD

December 26th, 2018 at 9:57 AM ^

1989 is the year I was supposed to have graduated. Hung around for an extra year as a "super senior." Avatar is the house I lived in during my first senior year.

LloydCarnac

December 26th, 2018 at 9:57 AM ^

1) Name is a hybrid of Lloyd Carr (former UM NC winning CFB coach) and Carnac the Magnificent (a comedy skit character played by Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show).

2) Avatar is Carson w/Maize and Blue theme (cut me some slack, I'm color blind), in process of predicting an answer to an unseen question. .

shoes

December 26th, 2018 at 10:00 AM ^

Shoes is one of 3 or 4 nicknames I've had for a long long time (associated with different groups of friends). Still searching for just the right avatar.

Qmatic

December 26th, 2018 at 10:02 AM ^

1. Qmatic comes from a combination of my last name (starts with a Q) and my love of hip-hop (favorite album being Illmatic). I used to write for some local hip hop acts and Qmatic was my “stage name” as well.

2. Avatar came to be during the Hoke “This is Michigan” era, and I just have never changed it.

Other Andrew

December 26th, 2018 at 10:04 AM ^

1. There was already one person calling himself Andrew whenever it was that Brian first had an organized comment/ID capability. “Second Andrew” sounded stupid.

2. My M flag from my Buenos Aires balcony during the 2008 season. Should I change it for luck?

When Brian ported the site from blogspot to MGoBlog 2.0 we got to add signatures. I had this plastic helmet that I added "2008" and a block M to wear to a game that year (because of all the construction above us) so I took a phone photo of the helmet sitting on the trunk on my old car and added the signature "This team is under construction. We thank you for your patience."

a_squared

December 26th, 2018 at 10:06 AM ^

1.)  "A squared" was a popular reference to the city when I was there. I'm sure some still refer to it that way.

2.)  Old School Big House picture. I like looking at the old pics; imagining how things where at the time. Wonder how many people attended games. Looks like you could just walk off the street into the stadium. No gates.

Thank you!

1.) There's an ad I keep hearing on the M-streamed game audios that makes a reference to the "[Best?...something-something].. in A-Two."  To which I scream "It's A-squared!!"  And then worry I'm a Luddite, that I've been too long away.  But I defend the latter's more accurately educated/arrogant and kinda poetic Michigan tone.

2.) On the other hand, someone very dear to me keeps insisting that The Big House is a modern and outrageously inaccurate term for the stadium, that it was never called that, especially since everybody knows that was the official nickname of Southern Michigan Prison. I admit I tell her to calm down and go with the flow.

I was westward wolverine (because I moved out west), but was then banned for a joke political post at a sensitive time. Still think that was overly harsh, but oh well. I do find it a little annoying that a lot of the people making serious political posts weren't banned.

Then I just made a nonsense name, Scootertooter, that was banned because I had the audacity to agree with Maizen in a thread where a bunch of people were seriously pretending like Georgia losing their back-up QB was the same thing as Aubrey Solomon transferring. How someone who could have posted positive threads after the Notre Dame game and the Ohio State game could be confused with Maizen is beyond me, but hey, you do you mgowill. Modding is an emotional game.

We're going to start publishing the comment that got users banned in the mod sticky. It won't stop all of the people who get banned for responding "You're a troll!!! I'm right and you're wrong!!!" at the first person to disagree with them from thinking it was their opinion, not their disposition, that got them banned, but hopefully the greater transparency will help make modding seem less arbitrary.

Blue Ninja

December 26th, 2018 at 10:09 AM ^

I like Japanese culture (history) and Michigan so put the two together. Did a Google image search for a blue Ninja and this is what came up. At the time I came up with name and avatatr I was working for a Japanese company as well.
