04/17/2018 - 11:49am If Mr. McDowell suffered

If Mr. McDowell suffered a permanent traumatic brain injury (TBI), being cut from the Seahawks could be the least of his worries. TBIs can cause permanent physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral issues. While some that suffer TBIs could completely recovery, others face permanent disabilities that require assisted living care. Am hoping McDowell is able to recover from his accident to claim a productive life, either on or off the gridiron.

12/05/2017 - 5:37pm Reconstitute an effective offensive line that

1) Protects the QB from injuries and constant sacks by pass protecting

2) Gets a 2-yd push for running plays

3) Plays like a hungry junkyard dog until the whistle blows

4) Creates run lanes

5) Avoids stupid penalties

6) Hits somebody every play

7) Gets our pathetic offense back on track

8) Gives our defense a break by making first downs, moving the ball, and scoring TDs

10/24/2017 - 11:53am One great smash in the mouth

One great smash in the mouth will quickly knock the pompous negativity or positivity out of someone. It's why fans bash or gush when they have accomplished nothing except eating hot dogs while drinking beer: they don't stare in the face of an opponent while they spout their unending crap.

It's why players just move on to the next game. What else is there to do after a win or loss? They have no choice but to move on. A new game is on the horizon.

Every team is a mythical national champion at the beginning of the season. Only one team stands with the trophy at the end. Has a team ever climbed the mountain with our level of inexperience from talent loss? Unlikely.

Whatever our record, am grateful for the written banner reminder at the beginning of our home games: "Go Blue, M Club supports you!"

A good motto and reminder regardless of W/L record. .

10/10/2017 - 4:14pm Condolences

Condolences to Speight for having a severe neck injury, and mercies in quick and complete healing. Fractured neck vertabrae used to be called a "broken neck". Speight won't know for over a month whether he'll need surgery or not. Regardless, I hope for his sake that he calls it quits. The "game" is not worth the risk of future injury that could lead to lifelong paralysis.

09/26/2017 - 11:21am Part of manball is

Part of manball is next man up. Speight has taken a beating the last two seasons due to porous (poor-assed) line and receiver play. O'Korn has also faced the same dynamics both seasons.

Bottom line: Prepare all QBs to play. Next/best man up when the call comes. OSU demonstrated this philosophy well in their last NC run and win.

06/29/2017 - 7:13am Precision. .

Precision. Deception. Execution. Even Carnack the Magnificent couldn't help Purdue guess which ball carrier had the rock.

Coach Crisler! Exciting football with non-athletic-scholarship players. True student athletes before big money influences. . Pure love for the game in action. .

The defense doesn't need to be the best on paper. It needs to continue being good, especially in the fourth quarter.

Then, our best defense could be a high-firing offense. It's about time for the O-Line to give the D-Line a break. Giddy up, offense! Score more points than opponents. Hopefully, many more. .

12/24/2016 - 12:47pm Agree, amazing story

Smashed into the rocks failed NFL career just the tip of the iceburg for his rock bottom which included failed suicide attempt. That he found value in helping others with their difficulties and addictions is a good turn for a life formerly in turmoil.

12/10/2016 - 6:45am Why sit in a corner/endzone?

Why not just purchase the best seat(s) in terms of overall field visibility? Of course, this assumes that one is more interested in seeing the game vs seeing/being part of the party. I'd rather save the celebration for the win, post game. Go Blue!

08/10/2016 - 1:36pm I’m not a big NASCAR guy but there’s something

"I’m not a big NASCAR guy but there’s something. ."

Football season is a lot like a NASCAR race. Pre-race faves and hype become meaningless once the race begins; constant lead changes and changes of fortune, wrecks (football field, classroom, life in general); and at-the-line finishes for the checkered flag (the game, the conference championship, the national championship).

So glad for UM coaches and their emphasis on opportunity, work, fairness, results definition and measurement, and player development.

07/27/2016 - 8:42am PSU stands for

PSU now stands for Penitentiary State University. That the AD's initials are SB are perfectly appropriate given his stance on the matter.

The worst negative recruiting that will ever be done is PSU's continued denial of Sandusky's crimes, and their subsequent coverup by PSU's athletic department and university administration.

Many believe the death penalty is in order for the cowards and perpetrators that have contributed to the PSU history of the last 40 years, continuing today. Any subsequent denials of the Sandusky era and legacy (serial child molestation) are just perpetuation of crime and abuse against innocence by PSU.

07/18/2016 - 12:45pm And, their next step would be

And, their next step would be to insitutionalize their inferiority complex. For example, they could change their name from the MSU Spartans to the MSU Spat-ons, with their new logo being Rodney Dangerfield wearing a spitoon for a helmet.

That fake ID reminds of the infamous wall of confiscated fake IDs at Village Corner, posted amdist all that coveted liquor for the world to see. . (that is, if the world happened to be waiting at that cash register).

04/01/2016 - 3:48pm Scholarship offers and recruiting

Manuel stated that his personal belief is that it doen't make sense to offer ninth and tenth graders scholarships, as well as having coaches travel to recruit them. His experience is that senior-year scholarship offers make most sense.

Don't know how this matches current recruiting practices for certain sports. . as well as how this matches cultivating long-term relationships.

Little Traverse Bay is the main theme of Petoskey and Harbor Springs. Enjoy them for a short while, then head north along Lake MI from Harbor Springs to Cross Village. Take M-119 aka as the tunnel of trees to Cross Village. Check out Legs Inn.

More? Wilderness Park, with its beautiful public access beach, is just beyond Cross Village; follow the road next to the lake to find it. Continue on to Mackinaw City, finally boarding a ferry to Mackinac Island.

There's a lot of fun and joy awaiting you in these areas. Enjoy!

Cooperative Effort, unlike that with UM: Post a highlight reel of senior year abilities. Improve strength and technique. Attend camps to interact with coaches and players. Forge a realtionship with head coach and staff. Abandon the idea that tenure trumps effort.

Absent this? Take remainder of official visits to other schools.

01/11/2016 - 11:30am A great defense is essential

Not only, can a great defense can stop a great offense, it can strip offensive possessions with turnovers, as well as score points with turnovers. A great defensive back realizes that a thrown ball is up for grabs and plays accordingly, going for ball posession or deflection. Defensive players work on stopping plays and stripping possessions.

Makes me think of Viking A. Peterson's catch, first down, and subsequent strip/takeaway yesterday. Peterson is a beast, but was no match for the two defenders that created a turnover, as well as a trip to bench for Peterson.

Although offensive players know where they are going and what the play is supposed to do, they never know what a defense is going to do. An offensive line can plan an attack, but they cannot adjust their position once set, while defensive players can move at any time, as well as use running mometum to crash a line.

I'll take a great defense anytime. However, a great offense is the perfect compliment, as in having an overall great team. I would never choose having one, great offense or defense, without the other.

01/08/2016 - 1:25pm That Don Brown mug

That Don Brown mug is for those whose cause is great offense. He's got a plan to blow that up. Wait 'till you see his smile when it happens. Maniacal, either way. Go Blue!

12/24/2015 - 12:24pm Maybe the Durkin read was spot-on from day 1

1) Soft landing at UM gave Durkin time and basis for next move, as well as opportunity to solidify his appeal in the head coaching market.

2) Low relative salary here with non-penalty departure assured that Durkin could, and would leave whenever his next opportunity arose.

3) Harbaugh and Durkin had a good, albeit short run together. Everyone must know that Harbaugh will not tolerate a staff member that longs to be somewhere else. Enthusiasm is required and cannot be feined. There is really no surprise in the Durkin departure. The real surprise would have been if he stayed.

4) Departure was mutual and amicable, unlike the meeting they'll have when they face each other at their teams' next kick off, and during the ensuing 60 minutes. Then, they'll be back to being friends. .

10/29/2015 - 11:23am Gotta love it

Yeah !

10/22/2015 - 10:59am The more Hoke talks. .

the more I wonder how he ever became our head coach.

With all of his befuddled mutterings, it is unreasonable to believe he's become any smarter or wiser since his firing.

Wish he would have laid low, enjoyed his mega-money golden parachute, and moved on.

Brady Joke, indeed (still looking to "stake" his claim, and now doing so against the hand that fed/feeds him).

10/15/2015 - 10:19am There is always plenty of free parking near the stadium. .

. . in the street on the day or night before the game.

Otherwise, if you must park for free on the day of this game, you must also prepare to walk far, say one mile or more. The neighborhood street spots fill fast.

Or, consider WSUMChurch on S. Seventh just south of Pauline. You'll pay to park, but will have amenity access, as well as satisfaction of supporting a nonprofit, if those elements are important to you..
